DarchDroid and PRL - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can I get in to change the PRL on DarchDroid 2.6.5?

opps, meant to be ##755#

eh i just restore back to my fresh 1.1 backup to do that.

As has been said, nandroid back the another ROM and update, then come back. I just barely got around to getting PRL 60665 by going back to FreshToast v2b2. Darchdroid is an AOSP ROM and is not carrier specific, so it doesn't support PRL updating. Darch could add this, I think, but I don't really think it's worth his time. I imagine it would take a lot of work.

I'm trying to get into the service menu, not just a PRL update.

Alright, on DC 2.08.1 and it doesn't seem to be working either. Neither ##755# or ##768# will get me into any menus.

Try ##DATA#. Just a wild guess.

Nothing. Time to get Logcat going I guess.

Logcat for anyone interested. DC doesn't work, and neither does Fresh 2.0c.
Alright, got it to work on Aloysius 1.0. ##DATA# anyway, still can't get in to change my PRL.

cannot update prl or profile?...help

i running pancake rom 1.5 and i noticed today i could not update my profile or my prl settings. it doesn't give me an error but it says "nothing available" for both. this is weird as usually it does something for me. i master reset the phone and reset my MSL as well after i got my code...still no change.
is this normal or what can i do to get this working? i think i have the latest prl btw!
anybody? and yes i searched before asking. i just need to know if this is abnormal behavior.
Try updating your radio. Fresh has it on his site, just dont do the new 2.1 one, you want the other one he has out. I think its like 1.56.
I did that and I have the proper PRL now. Just reflash it as an update.zip.

yeah but can't you brick your phone by doing so?
That may or may not even fix your issue. You should always see something along the lines of "applying your profile" or whatever when you do the update profile. There isn't always a PRL update so there are times you will get the error that nothing new is available.
Also, you should know that there is a fix for the RUU since you tried to call me out for assisting people (for a small charge) via logmein

all it does it say it's checking, than says no update available for either. i find this weird. im not running stock, im running a custom 1.5 rom.

so it could be the rom im running causing the issues. i know with winmo this used to be a problem with custom roms.

Make a nandroid backup, download the one from the other post, restore that one and see if it works. Then you can go back to your other backup as soon as its done.

If it is saying CHECKING and says NO UPDATE AVAILABLE.......Then it is working. You have the proper PRI and PRL.
It's not going to update anything if there isn't one...
You can brick your phone by updating the Radio, but I think more people have bricked it trying to RUU...With a rooted phone, you take that chance with anything that you flash.

Update PRI/PRL CM6?

Anyway to do so in CM6 or do I always have to flash to another rom? Also, any possibility to get the device self help app on CM6? You can update prl/pri through there...
Device Self Service is just kind of a shortcut set -- it still has to use or access those actual Sprint/CDMA-based tools to update the PRL and profile.
And that hasn't been implemented in CM6 yet, or any AOSP or GSM-based ROM to my knowlege. I think because those Sprint apps/tools are closed source, it's really hard or even impossible to figure out how to make them work on anything but Sense and stock ROMs.

What ROM? If you're on CM6, DD, or ZenEXP, you won't be able to cuz the update PRL tool isn't in those ROMs.
yeah i know that part but what i am saying is the i went back to fresh, zen, even the stock ruu and i cant update my prl...maybe its sprint that wont let me... ( "drops on his knees and screams really loud "WHY") lol lol... is there a way to manually do it... if so please show me the way to salvation..
Try 'Update profile' in that same menu place.....that will refresh/update your data and phone profile for Sprint towers. Could be that after so much ROM flashing the data profile on your phone just got a little off. Then try updating PRL after that and it might work.
If it doesn't work, see this post here for how to manually update a PRL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6798016&postcount=15 (ignore the quoted part at the top of that post, just read the reply underneath it)
You'll have to search the forum here for an actual PRL text file -- they are out there.

go back to stock 2.1 update the app from there, then backup the .apk (astro file explorer has a tool that allows you to do this) then install it in the other builds

Yeah, it's something like that in system/app
sprint_core.apk in /system/app there may be an odex. i always rm NameOfApp.*
if you delete the apk it may cause problems(maybe. didnt for me but has for others). you also wont be notified of vm's. youll have to call to check. on a 2.1 rom, that is. thats how it worked for me anyway.
personally, my vm isnt working on my new device. like it never set itself up correctly. if anyone should happen to have a link to some instructions to set this up, that would be fantastic. I hate calling the silly people at sprint. thank you

it didnt work. i removed the original, flashed yours. still have the undelivered message, the activation message. nothing is working, i cant figure it out. and when i called sprint, they reset my vm, so i lost messages and had to set up everything again...
FYI to Impaler, your VVM version in your sig works for those in areas where an official update has not rolled through yet.
Don't know if you are aware, but Sprint recently updated the VVM software to version T.5.1.0.48 (here in TX it was updated the last week of October). Note that Sprint CSR will not be able to help you reset it unless you are on a Sense ROM. Period.
Two options to fix on your non-Sense ROM... there is an updated .apk floating around on these boards (might need to PM someone for it). Get it and install via your file manager.
Or...
Other way is to nandroid your current ROM, then flash a Sense ROM like Fresh's most current. Then, update your PRL and Profile, then go into the VVM and press Menu and update Sprint VVM.
Then, either try to nandroid back to your original ROM and check to see if that does it (haven't tried that, but it might work)... or else... yes, you will need to pull the updated com.coremobility.app.vnotes from the Sense ROM and install the pulled .apk into your new ROM.
Hope this helps.
mr. implaler, I have used yours for the last weeks successfully, so thank you. I just ran into the same problem with the mandatory upgrade, and it is an update i did before I rooted my phone. the VM did work this morning on MUIU but i loaded MYN and that is when my issue started.
Hope someone can firgure it out

I had 9016 in the blocked texts list. Hope this helps you.
Excellent...let me add to this...
I suppose using variations of ROMS that don't include VVM and block 9016 caused this issue.
You can unblock 9016 by going to your account online, under "My Devices," then "My Preferences." Scroll down to the "Limits and permissions" section. You will see the "Block Texts" link there.

Not recieving txt's!!!

I posted this over at Cyanogenmod Forums and thought I'd post here as well.
I'm running CM7-RC4 and as of yesterday my phone stopped recieving txts. I can send just fine, just can not recieve.
Was using Handcent as my default txt'ing app, then tried uninstalling/reinstalling to see if that would fix it....no dice!
Hoping with all the expertise around here someone might have a solution. Still wont recieve even with stock txt app.
Please help as I can not go without txt'ing. Thanks in advance!
Nand, flash a Sense rom, update prl and profile, send a few texts, receive a few, and nand back to cm. That should take care of your issues. BTW, what it's your prl? Current is 60677.

I'm on my phone, just check the dev thread. Liquidsense or nfx are good choices, I'm told. I still have my original Sense nand from when I rooted, and that's what I use. I would also recommend that you make a nand of the Sense rom before you go back, just so you have one handy for updating.

I've been having the exact same problem but this doesn't seem to be working for me. I've made a nandroid backup of my CM7 install, wiped everything, and flashed the latest LiquidSense rom. However, when I go to update the PRL it tells me that : "The application OMADM (process com.htc.android.amadm) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Is there anything I missed or should I try another sense rom/reflashing?
EDIT: I reflashed the LiquidSense rom and now I got all my messages from before. Restored my CM7 nandroid and getting messages again. No idea what happened but as long as it works...

Bad Signal, other problems, help.

Had my Hero for a little over a year now. Been rooted for most of that time. Currently running Aosp from 02-10-11. I also have 2.6.29.6 Aosp Kernel. Not sure if any other info needed. I have normal coverage where I live and mostly everywhere else except where I work. I drop calls all the time, lose data, etc. I called Sprint and was told its my Hero, not the network. They said they have a new tool that tells them what is causing the problem, so its def my phone. I also have terrible battery life, and my phone is laggy as hell. I just want to know what my best option would be. Should I go to the Sprint store and have them replace my phone? Should I start from scratch (rooting wise) and take it from there? Or should I just wait for the Evo 3D to come out and suck it up? Just not sure which road to take. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. And sorry if this has been asked previously, I did some searches and couldnt find much info.
To see if it's on your end, do a fresh install of your favorite ROM on its latest release. Preferable latest aosp or cyanogen stable. If it's still laggy, hardware. If not, then your hero is good. For the network, after you install a ROM, run a speed test. Then update to the latest prl. Run again. If it gets better, than great. If not, then proceed to update a Verizon prl. If good, than it's not your hardware. If it is, think about getting a replacement.
Great advice. Dont think I ever updated my PRL. How do I go about doing so and where do I get them? Fresh install is what I was leaning towards.

Lol Big duce is on the ball baby! Hooah!
Ok Im sold. Gonna update the PRL following the instructions in that thread. After that its a fresh install of either cm7 or aosp. Last question...Does a fresh install consist of wiping the data/factory reset and thats it? Or am I missing something? Again, TY so much. Quick response as well.
You on clockwork? You should if you aren't.
And a fresh install to me is wiping the dalvike, boot, cache, system, and data. Then installing the ROM.
I see everything except for boot, and system. And Im on Clockwork 2.5.0.7
I'm on 3.0.2.4, but in that version it's in the mount section.
Gotcha! Heres goes nothing.
