is there a way to put the aosp dialer on the rooted 2.1 ruu. i tried extracting it from pure hero and from darchdroid. and pushing it to the system/app folder but it never shows up. and yes i rebooted after pushing. i also tried flashing the signed aosp dialer that is on here somewhere.
push the contact.apk from darchdroid.... and get rid of the htc contact apk
tried taking out HtcContacts
ok... i pushed the contacts.apk from darchdroid. i renamed HtcContacts.apk and HtcContacts.odex to ....bak. rebooted the phone and the aosp dialer didn't show up. i might just be stuck with the Htc contacts while on the 2.1 ruu.
Yeah... I don't think you can change stuff on the stock ROM. Why don't you grab one of the deodex'd versions of it? That is customizable.

When i apply a theme to other apks from metamorph everything is fine but when i try to apply it to the framework-res.apk my phone reboots and nothing is changed i also tried to use AndoidCommander to pull the framework-res.apk manually, change the images and put it back in but it doesnt change any help pls? Thanks
Wrong section, and try using the search function.
sorry which forum is it supposed to be in?
also i tried to search but nothing seemed to work
ok guys i managed to at least push the apk using the terminal app.. but everytime it reboots everything starts to force close and i have to reinstall the sbf using rsd lite... do you know what im doing wrong please?
Um well I don't bother with theming myself, but in the absence of any more helpful responses, if you're running a stock ROM I imagine it's odex'ed & you can't theme an odex'ed ROM. You could look into deodexing the ROM but aiui it's quite a bit of work. Probably easier to find a custom ROM you like, which isn't odex'ed & start from that. E&OE.
thanks for replying mate the problem is that the milestone cannot run custom ROMs due to a locked bootloader... the problem is that i can mod all the apks except the framework-res.apk, which when modified using the terminal app, makes all the applications force close..
EDIT: ok i tried to deodex the modified framework-res.apk and push it on the phone but still didn't work any help guys?
my camera started acting up since i flashed on super D. the saturation of the pictures were all weirded out. so i decided to switch roms. i went to HTCClay's superbad and i hoped for it to change...but it didnt. help? D:
edit: i tried running fix_permissions and that didnt work. and i cant find the right camera.apk file for the rom im using. can anyone send me the link if they find it?
im on htcclays
You can try running a fix_permissions from terminal and/or you can try pushing the camera.apk file from one of those roms that you know works and overwriting your existing camera.apk file.
lets see if using fix_permissions works. if that fails ill just push the camera.apk like you said, thanks

So i installed the doomed froyo rom on my thrill 4g and am loving it (had the "almost cyanogen" GB rom before this but couldn't live with the bugs). My only gripe is i cannot for the life of me figure out how to get google talk installed on it. I've tried everything from downloading it on the fone and clicking it to install (says install failed) to forcing it into the system/apps folder via terminal on my mac and cmd prompt on my pc to double check myself.
Nothing has worked thus far. I've tried a "custom" gtalk apk, the newest version (1.3), and the previous version all to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not a fan of any of the 3rd party apps that handle gtalk, so that's kind of out of the question. I really want the official gtalk app cause i fell in love with it while using the cyanogen mod GB rom
Use the one included in the rom it is based off of... im guessing 10e stock

the doomed froyo rom doesn't come with gtalk, its supposed to be a "light" rom ...it looks like it was just updated to 2.0 with a new kernel, I'll try that out and see if theres a gtalk app included.
You want gtalk I can see about making that work out for you. What you could try is take the official gtalk app and put that into the doomed froyo slim zip file. Just open it up, and put the gtalk app in the system/app and flash the rom file. That should do the trick.
That'd be great...i actually tried that method already, but it seems it doesn't work...its as if the ROM is ignoring it cause it doesn't show up in my installed apps list, but is def. in the apps folder.
keep up the good work tho, love ur ROM
Have you tried opening the .apk or .zip of the gtalk app in cwm or in Rom manager? It worked for me installing it on cyanogenmod thrill.
Ok. I'm currently stock 4.4 (Sprint) rooted with the latest TWRP recovery. The stock ROM is, of course, odexed. I've never messed with odexed ROMs before, since I've always just stuck with AOSP type ROMs. I've found a few cool inverted 4.4 apps (i.e. MMS.apk) and I'm wondering if there is a way to flash a typical deodexed app onto an odexed ROM like this? Maybe by deleting both the MMS.apk and odex file before flashing? Thanks for any help.

Click to collapse
You got it, just delete or rename both the apk and the odex file and manually install the apk, change permissions and reboot
