My camera doen't works - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I'm a fan of your site, I have a nexus that operates under one froyo 2.2. SETCPU I installed it also works very well but the camera does not work, every time I try to record a video it restart the phone. But the side photo runs smoothly. What to do

Make sure you have the correct radio firmware installed.
Check from menu button --> Settings --> About Phone.
Baseband version should include "4.06". If it has "4.04" instead, you're on the old Eclair radio firmware.
Instructions on updating are here, and an easier update.zip method is here.

Have root, need help where to get auto rotate

Hi
I recently installed root and have android dev phone 1 with version 1.1
however i want to install
1. Multi-Touch Browser - Ipod like pinch/unpinch to zoom
2. Auto Rotate
and cannot seem to find out how to do this as every forum i read recommends downloading the jf 1.41 but i have already done this... help ?
Auto-rotate for browser should be in browser-menu-more-settings. You need "DroidSans for Root" from the market to turn on auto-rotate for most of the rest of the phone. Multi-touch is built into the browser, try moving fingers together and apart while looking at a large webpage(zoom doesn't work on mobile pages ie. google mobile home)
DroidSans Tweak Tools for the auto-rotate. The multi-touch should already be included in JF's release (RC33 of course)
edit: too slow...haha
lol, trying to pay your penance too?
No luck with droidsans as comes up with 'bad version' ?!
Also cant find option for multi touch on browser and have tried on bbc.co.uk (full version)
have i got a faulty version - i agreed to the holiday updates, was this correct?
Kernel version
2.6.25-01845-g85d4f0d
[email protected] #27
Build number
holiday_devphone-userdebug 1.1 UNLOCKED
130444 test-keys
make sure you download the version for your ADP b/c there is another1 for RC33 (I tough you said your is ADP) there is a difference
im sorry i didnt understand that last message,,
how did i download the wrong one ?
what did i download wrong ?
and where can i get the right one from ?
plus im a UK user if this helps?
sry, I'm on rc33 and my about looks totally different. Kernel Version-JesusFreak... Build-killa....release-keys.
Hi, i download the droid sans, and try to enable auto rotate, but it says operation failed.
I have an Rc8 modded by jf
Anyone know what can be?

Beginner question: Unsure which version of froyo is on my phone

So I bought a Nexus One on craigslist. I thought it was all stock until I ran into the "cannot establish reliable sever connection" when I tried to sign into my google account. My question is how do I restore my phone back to the newest version of android 2.2. It is not unlocked (no unlocked padlock on boot screen). Under "Build number" it says "passion-userdebug Froyo FRE74 28579 test-keys." Under Android version it says "Froyo" instead of 2.2. And many of the 2.2 features are not present such as wifi tethering, and the new icons at the bottom center of the home screen aren't there. I only have the single grid icon and not the set of 3 with the browser and phone. And i'm not sure where to go from here. I want to be able to log into my gmail account and the android marketplace. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Assuming you verified you have Data Connection enabled and have the proper APN settings::::
Your seller may have rooted the phone without necessarily unlocking the bootloader. see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710842
Also, the link I just added shows the different versions of 2.2 (missing a couple) but FRE74 doesn't look like one of them.
First find out if it is a rooted phone, Check the app drawer for any SuperUser or Spareparts icon. That or try installing Busybox from the marketplace and executing it.
If it is rooted, flash one of the many ROMS available on XDA, Cyanogen just released his beta version tonight. Personally I use Enomther Rom. Official version is out.
And BTW, read up on the process of flashing... most require you to wipe first.
and if it is not rooted....
All you need to do is do a Factory Reset
Settings / Privacy / Factory Data Reset
After that check what your Build number is.
Then you can go to your dialler and enter
*#*#checkin#*#*
What that will do is connect your phone to the Google servers, say hello, and the server will send the update to your phone. (Force OTA - Over The Air update)
My data connection is working, I browse the internet fine except for the youtube app and gmail.com. When I go to gmail.com through my browser I get "a secure data connection could not be established." But yahoomail and flickr logins work fine on both wifi and 3g. No superuser or spareparts icons in the drawer. I can't access the android marketplace since I cannot log into my google account. I did the factory restore and the build number is the same. I did the checkin from my dialer and it said "checkin failed"
So it seems like the phone is rooted but I just need to flash a rom with the froyo features I want. Any links or guides to doing this? I read and superboot seemed like the easiest way.
Sounds to me like an issue with radio... flash a new radio might do the trick. However, before I start messing around with the radio not knowing anything about my phone, I'd look into doing this first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850
This will bring your Nexus One back to it's original shipping rom. It's gonna be alot of work, BUT this IS almost a $600 phone.
So I followed those directions and i'm back on android 2.1 and i can log into my google and everything seems to work fine. I want to update to 2.2 so I go to system updates, download the update, and install. But during the install process it shows the little box with the android and the loading bar but it stops and goes to the android and the exclamation point. I'm not sure what to do from here. My Build Number is ERD79
Hold Volume up and press Power (or possibly the other way around). That should bring up the recovery menu.
I tried once with the OTA update I downloaded, the phone restarted and tried to install by itself but went to the android with the !. So I download a froyo rom and rename it update.zip, not .zip.zip. And put it on my phone, I'm in the blue recovery screen and it says signature error. I'm thinking its the wrong rom i'm using.

[Q] Darky's ROM v9.5 - It isn't stable for me

My starting point...
This was loaded with PIT *512, Odin 1.7, and PDA 20110318_ZSJPJ.tar (ASIA) with repartition selected
Wifi, APN, phone, android market, auto sync, and camera – working
*#1234# PDA I9000ZSJPJ PHONE I9000ZSJPG CSC I9000OZSJPG
*2767*3855# Device rebooted normally after factory reset. All settings lost, the device start appears to be fresh and clean.
Android system recovery 3e
Automatic time updating has never worked for me. I unselect automatic and manually choose Beijing +8.
Darky's ROM v9.5 Installation
Followed instructions found here:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...rkys-rom-on-2-2-2-2-1-i9000-i9000m-only.1041/
Setup Darky’s ROM Configurator
Flashed Dark_Core_1.0.tar with Odin 1.3
The Dark Core kernel does not work on my phone. Still Android system recovery (3e)
Revised ROM configurator to skip kernel as per alternative kernel method
Flashed speedmod-kernel-k13d-500hz.tar with Odin 1.3
I skipped backup step. Fresh phone so no reason to backup
Completed efsbackup
Through recovery, wipe data/factory reset completed
Through recovery, Darky’s ROM v9.5 flash completed
Selected reboot device through recovery screen
The rest of the story...
This is a list of every action I took after completing what seemed to be a flawless installation of the ROM.
Updated phone settings…. Language, time, wifi password, google password, etc.
Sync of gmail, google contacts, and google calendar completed without problems.

Opened home switcher app. Set homeswitcher to ‘Launcher’
Checked camera. Pressed home key and phone went back to original setup wizard screen, the one you see when you wipe your phone. I continued to press next to get through the sequence. Home screen switched back to ‘TwLauncher’ appeared to be the only change.
Pressed home button. Ticked box to set default. Selected ‘Launcher’
Tested camera again. I pressed the home key to get out of the app and the home switcher option came up again. Once again, selected to tick box to set the action as a default and picked ‘Launcher’.
Tested camera again. The home button properly went to the default this time.
The Places app does not launch.
Modified some settings inside Spare Parts app. Animation and wifi sleep policy.
Changed faster fix app to show China.
Opened Gmail app, rec’d ‘stopped unexpectedly’ message. Force close.
Tried to respond to an SMS message, rec’d ‘stopped unexpectedly’ message when I tapped the box to bring up the keyboard. Force close.
Opened Messaging app and tried again to respond to SMS message with same result.
Went to settings, modified input method to ‘Touch Input Chinese’, the device shutdown immediately.
Restarted phone. Unlocked screen and rec’d message ‘Process system is not responding’. It stayed there momentarily and then did a very quick reboot. I unlocked the screen and rec’d the same message.
I selected force close. The home screen was black with no wifi or phone service. Touching the applications button opened the list of app icons but the phone eventually the device did its very quick reboot.
I held the power button down for several seconds to force the device to turn off. I pressed the power button in hopes of it starting up normally… with the exception of having no phone service, it did seem to start normally.

Flashed stock ROM and returned to starting point noted at beginning of the post.
Please forgive the post above if you find it offensively long. I have spent the past week reading anything I can as it relates to Darky’s ROM and can’t find anything that seems to relate to the problems I am finding. Admittedly, I am a n00b and this is my very first experience with custom ROM in the android OS. (I made the switch from iOS a month or so ago where the game of JB and unlocks became to frustrating.)
I have installed Darky’s ROM many times over the past week and cannot get anywhere near what I consider a stable platform. Events such as ‘force close’ and system reboots are so frequent, surely that can’t be the norm. Is this to be expected?
From the description in the post above, have I done something wrong? It seems like the most frequent response and solution is to flash the ROM again. I have done that and never seem to get the same response.
I realize this is a custom ROM. I just don’t hear others mentioning the issues I have described so I am guessing they don’t exist for anyone else.
You should tell Darky .
Majority of helps posted on this forum are for Darky roms fact not fiction .

@jje Thanks for your advice. I will take this question over to Darky's forum. I was hoping that the larger pool of potential readers here would be able to offer some advice.

Possibly if you hang around a bit someone may come up with an answer .
Not an answer but you can build your own rom .

This is not an answer, but for me Darky's ROM v9.5 wasn't stable either. It just stopped working every few hours, just turned off my phone without notice etc.
I'm not sure what the problems was but I think there are some unresolved issues with v9.5.
After flashing stock JVK + darky10kernel + Darky's ROM v10.0 RC3, all my problems were gone tho and my phone has never been smoother. But v9.5.. I just don't know.

quite weird how so many people say 9.5 is good, and so many other people say 9.5 is bad
i upgraded to 9.5 from 9.2 about 4 hours ago and so far it seems fine
I did a no-wipe upgrade and am using dark core kernel 1.0 that came with the mod itself
not switching to 10.0 because it requires a wipe cant be bothered till 2.3 goes official
Try flashing kernel 1.2 darkcore
9.5 not rock solid, but not that bad either
I'm running 9.5 for a couple of days now, and although I ran into some minor problems, I cannot say it is that bad. It hang once, sometimes I have a small problem installing apps from the Market, but apart from that, it's OK. I think 9.3 had less problems, so if you want to go for a more stable Darky's ROM, go for 9.3. Or wait until 10 is official released.
Go through resurection
One more tip: I noticed you started from a non-Darky ROM. What you can do (and it's what I did) is install the Resurection edition of Darky's ROM. It's essentially the 9.2 version and you can flash it with Odin. After doing that, you can be sure to have a clean Darky environment. You can even see how that one works, I know a few colleagues who are still on 9.2 and fully happy with that. But if you want to upgrade, it's much easier from there. Just use Darky's configurator after you copied the ZIP file to you SD card. It's easy, and like I said, for me it is pretty stable!
Flash 9.3 first then flash over that with 9.5. I have used a lot of Darky's roms and never once had any major issues with them. 9.5 is a good rom

Told them out of the thousands at least one has a good user experience .

I want to go backwards (I am on 9.5 and battery life sucks).
How do I go from 9.5 to 9.4? Can I just download 9.4 and use the Darky's Rom Configurator and install it the same way I went from 9.4. to 9.5?
9.4 was deprecated due to heavy issues. The previous stable one is 9.3. You can install it with Darky's configurator, indeed.
Bugs will be fixed step by step ....
But I prefer Ultimate v8.2 with Tegrak Kernel ...

[HOTO][Jellybean] Upgrade From 2.3.3 To The Latest 4.1 (Jellybean) Rom

This is another howto on upgrading your HTC Incredible S from Android 2.3.3 to the latest and greatest Android 4.1 (JB). I am posting this because I had a heck of a time getting it on my phone as I had a stock device and I did not find an all in one for n00b's.
Hopefully this helps some people out!

Enter HBOOT:
---------------------
To enter HBOOT all you need to do is turn off your phone and turn it back on by holding "Volume Down" and the "Power" buttons for a few seconds. If your dont get to a white screen in a few seconds just try holding them down again. Make note of what version you are running as this is for 1.13
Preliminary:
-----------------
- Download the zip at the end of this post for all the needed files
- Install "HTC_Fastboot_Drivers_3.0.exe"
- Transfer the three zip files onto the root of your sdcard
Bootloader:
----------------
My HBOOT is 1.13 and this only applies to that version!! If you have 1.16 then look HERE for this sections instructions
- Select "Charge Only" on your conectivity menu
- In settings turn on USB debugging (Settings->Applications->Development)
- On your PC enter the "revolutionary-0.4pre4" directory
- Run "revolutionary.exe" with admin rights (Right click->Run as admin...)
- As you are waiting for it to find your phone go to "http://revolutionary.io/"
- The Revolutionary program will ask for a beta key and will display your phones serial number. On the website under the "Downloads" heading half way down the page is a "Download for Windows" link. Click this link but cancel the download. This will pop up the beta key window.
- Paste the beta key from the website into the Revolutionary program and wait for it to do its work
- After a while you will be back at HBOOT but you will see "-REVOLUTIONARY-" at the top and "S-OFF" listed
- Select "Reboot" and let Android drop back to the UI as usual and the Revolutionary program will re-locate the phone.
- If Revolutionary does not find your phone again just close the program and re-open it with admin rights
- It will ask if you want to install ClockWorkMod, enter "y" and let it work its magic
- After a while you will be back in HBOOT, select "Recovery" and you will drop to CMW
Root:
-------
- In CWM select "Install ZIP from SDCARD"
- Select "Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip" and install it.
NOTE: Now you have a nice recovery program for writing and backing up your rom. If you stop here you will have your same android version but the ability to put whatever you want on your phone.
Install A ROM:
---------------------
- Boot into HBOOT and then into CWM by selecting "Recovery"
- Backup your old ROM! If you do not do this you will have nothing to go back to in a failure!
- In CWM select "Install ZIP from SDCARD"
- Select "Factory Reset" and then "Wipe Cache" as well
- Select "Codename-Android-3.5.0-VIVO.zip" and install it
- Select "Go Back" and then "Install" again
- Choose "gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip" this time
- Select "Go Back" and then "Restart"
And now you have Jelybean installed with all of the Google apps!!!
NOTES ON JELLYBEAN ROM:
---------------------------------------------
Their are quite a few random bugs but they are quite minor in my opinion. I was able to use my phone like every other day at work without a single one of the issues below getting in my way. If you want a rock stable ROM then I recommend you check out Project X which is ICS and nearly every bug has been hammered out.
Helpfull Notes:
---------------
Their is no HTC Sense so no HTC apps anymore. For WiFi teather download "Barnacle Wifi Teather" from the Play store. It will fail first run as it needs to setup settings but then it works great.
- Camera App, The front facing camera casues glitches. If you try then do this to restore sanity:
1) Go to Settings -> Apps -> All and select "Gallery"
2) Clear data

BUG LIST:
---------------
Notification light:
No light for charging <== Battery icon changes and phone wakes up when plugged in as usual, who cares?!
Wrong colour for notifications (orange not green) <== Who cares?!
Call volume is very low or non-existent <== No volume problems for me!
Camera: <== All the below problems exist
There is no touch to focus
Video recording does not work
Front camera does not work
Back light:
If screen brightness is set to 5% or lower they will not work. <== Does not happen to me!
Buttons can turn off after 5 seconds of inactivity. This is a jellybean feature
On reboot back lights may not turn on, you can activate them by adjusting your brightness through settings. <== Has never happened!
MMS does not work (for some carriers) <== Im with SaskTel and it works
Works if connected to Wi-Fi (for some carriers)
Re-enter your APN settings manually may fix issue
Data sometimes won’t activate when enabled <== Again worked with SaskTel without setup
Re-enter your APN settings manually may fix issue
Wi-Fi is buggy for some <== Seems good to me
Go to Wi-Fi settings, menu button> advanced, there is an option enabled by default saying that any low range Wi-Fi will be disconnected automatically.
You can also try to set router to wireless g only.
Possible fix from nik: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zbl8fi8ito...Fix_for_JB.zip
Radio Strength in general is lower and slower <== I noticed fewer bars on my AP but a decent connection otherwise
Default AOSP Keyboard becomes default for no reason <== I don't have a different keyboard so im good
Swift key gestures (eg, backward swipe for delete) sometimes don’t work double tap the menu button to fix.
YouTube/Video playback reboots phone <== Disable HW overlays fixed this for me
This could be due to flash, possible temp fix, go to "settings->developer options" & "Disable HW overlays"
Other Camera apps may not work <== I only take pictures so the stock works for my needs
Google now/voice dictation is slow to open and seems that input volume is low <== LOL, did this ever work for anyone?!
Gallery: <== I have not seen any gallery issues
Has some back scrolling issues.
Possible fix for the Gallery:
1) Delete the .nomedia file (and other “hidden files”) from /sdcard/ and-or /data/
2) Wipe Media Storage Data (Settings>Apps>Media Storage)
3) Reboot.
4) If all else fails try formatting memory card and re-adding music and pictures back. Backup! Backup! Backup!
Face-unlock does not work (for some) <== Never worked with my mug anyways as my beard grows to fast lol
After using the camera, brightness won't revert back to original state, it stays bright <== Never seen this one before
This also happens in ICS roms not just JB roms
Need to manually reset brightness.
Or close camera from “recent apps” menu
Ability to change the volume even when the phone is locked <== Media volume can be changed when locked (This is normal)
Text looks "corrupt/fuzzy" <== Everything looks good to me!
That is really great. Thanks for summarizing all the steps. Even I found it difficult when I installed my first ROM.
By the way how is the ROM working. I read that there are lot of issues because of the kernel. Those will not be shoved till the time new kernel is available. Is the call volume issue fixed? Man it would be great if you can list down major bugs.
Thanks for the steps one more time.

I will be using my phone all day tomorrow at work so I should find any of the bugs but so far I have not found a single one besides the front camera issue. Call volume was also not a problem and I did a test call first thing.
I will post my Impressions tomorrow.
P.S - Don't be afraid to use the Thanks button!
Thank you.
I am also planning to install it. But I was bit skeptical after seeing all the bug list.
I wil wait for your feedback on the ROM.
Thanks.

I added my observations to the bug list in my first post. Over all I find it perfectly usable for my every day routine but if you use the camera features and videos often then it may piss you off. Check out Project X if you want to upgrade to ICS while this version gets some of its bugs smoothed out.
Yup .... M already on project 4.1 x for last 3 weeks.... And m loving it.. yesterday I tried code 3.5 jb as well but found it very buggy and rolled bak to 4.1x again.
Everything was fine... Until I had a call for more than 5 mins.... After a while person on the other side was not able hear me properly....which p***ed me off....
I vl wait for a stable jb version..

[Q] ROM issues - newly flashed

Hi All,
I am very new to Android flashing. I got my first Android phone at the start of this year and just decided to go ahead with flashing a rooted ROM onto it tonight. Its a SG3 4G model - GT-i9305T
It all seamed to go ok except that I can no longer connect it to Samsung Kies and am therefore unable to access my backup data. I also cannot upgrade the firmware to the latest Android version because it tells me that my phone has been modified.
this is the ROM I used (in the second quote bubble of the first post):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080463
I would really appreciate it if someone has some answers for me because I'm seriously stressing out about this! Hopefully someone can tell me how I can get it to mot show up as modified so I can upgrade the Android version. I'm wondering if maybe the modified tag is preventing me from connecting to Kies...?
Thanks in advance
Dave
You can only have Kies/Ota with official Samsung firmware for your phone not custom .
You cannot mix and match custom and official .
Official or XDA Developers forum your choice .
Suggest you read the basic faqs and guides before flashing anything .

research
I guess I should have done a little more research because I never read anything about how rooting my phone would prevent Kies connectivity and the ability to update Android versions....
I have downloaded a stock ROM now so hopefully if I flash that, it will bring things back to normal, which is all I wanted anyway. I just wanted to get rid of some of the restrictions placed on my phone by the carrier
got a result in the end...
Well after finding out the hard way that a rooted ROM isnt all that I thought it was and having to completely erase everything off my phone to do so, I had a possitive result in the end. (if you can call it positive) I downloaded a stock samsung ROM (which is what i wanted in the first place, however didnt search any further after finding the rooted ROM), flashed it to my phone and now I am back in business, all without the crappy Telstra carrier rubbish they forced upon me.
The problem now is that the ONLY reason I tried any of this was in an attempt to have the option to turn off the shutter sound for the camera. Now when the phone was running the rooted ROM, i had this. Since putting the stock ROM on it, I dont have the option in the camera settings to turn off the shutter sound, nor can I take photos siliently when the phone is in silent mode....WHY????? I have even paid for another camera app (camera zoom FX) which claims to have this function although even with the setting for no shutter sound enabled, I get a shutter sound....
Can someone please help me with this one?? I feel like a wasted a heap of time and effort, not to mention stressing out and having to reinstall everything and re-setup my screens, apps and shortcuts, all for nothing!
Remove the shutter sound from the firmware .
System/ media/ audio/ notifications .
Shutter sound removed probably a feature of the rom you used .
nowhere to be found

I just tried looking in that location but couldn't find it. there was only 1 file in there and it wasn't the shutter sound. i had a hunt around elsewhere but found nothing. (this is all just using the file browser on the phone - "my files")
You need to read the basics .
You require Root and a root file explorer .
