Here is a preview of the Droid X http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/15/exclusive-motorola-droid-x-preview/

Willing to bet they'll put out a GSM version, like they did with the original Droid. GSM version was called the Milestone.

Indeed they did.
However as it stands, the Droid X is the CDMA variant of The Motorola Somethingorother (possibly Shadow?) that doesn't exist yet.

Is it just me or are android phones getting way too large lately? This must feel absolutely huge when held against the face.
Anyway, if you have your Nexus One, keep it for as long as it serves you. I have a feeling it will continue to serve you (us) for a while.

They keep making the screen bigger, but the resolution stays the same. I don't see the point. It's a nice looking phone though.
I'll be sticking with my N1 for a while I'm sure. I just can't go back to buying carrier locked phones any more, especially when Canadian contracts are 3-years long. Now that Apple is selling the iPhone unlocked and direct-to-consumer it might just push the rest of the market to do the same.

Probably better than shrinking the screen by a few mm and then multiplying the resolution width and height by 2, and then naming it "retina display".

No. CDMA=no SIM. and if it is a CDMA world phone I doubt people will be able to hack the SIM slot and unlock it. And even if they did it is not equiped with a T-mo US 3G radio.
eh. damn, that phone is supposed to be the best android phone yet

That's an ugly cheap toy. Sorry had to say it. T-mobile needs to step up the game again. They missed out on the great Hero. Hopefully they get the "Dragon" first.
Feeling some mad buyer's remorse over purchasing a MT3G ~2 months ago.
Oh well.
also, +1 for Dragon on T-mo

There IS a GSM Droid coming though for Telus Mobility in Canada which is switching over to HSDPA along with Bell. CDMA is getting phased out in Canada.

Yep, CDMA RIP (include the USA as well)! Such a waste of "space"
Yeah, with LTE (4G), the whole world should be following a unified standard hopefully on not more than two frequencies.
Oh, I hope they use more than two frequencies otherwise there will be too much interference
Very interested in the Motorola Droid.
Questions about Android...
Can you get real time push hotmail?
Is there a wifi router app?
Is there a logmein app?
Is there an orb app (or able to stream from orb site)?
Thanks in advance...

I doubt you'll have an interference problem, being that the rest of the world has the same standard it's only the states now that don't use one standard (we have to always be different). I'm on the bandwagon with CDMA being phased out, even if it is better tech (I don't agree with that statement I'm just saying....) with the rest of the world on GSM it's hard to come out with a good phone that will support either or both.

I have no idea at all sorry.
Try googleing for Android forums. I'm sure they are out there.
I too am slightly concerned about that. We'll need to get to work on rooting the thing as soon as possible. Has anyone started digging into the thing who has a review unit?
We certainly need to find a central location to collaborate.

Note on CDMA?

Just curious, does anyone else think a cmda version of the note will come? I've seen rumors of the galaxy journal, but nothing set in stone, just trying to gather some opinions

That was a joke, right? CDMA is sooooo 20th century!
Seriously, in Oz it used to be the canines testicles. With a crap CDMA phone I managed to get a signal from 45 kms away, and that can save your life in the outback. The signal goes in and out, as you'd expect from longwave radio, but it was at least there. Nobody else had had anything for 30 kms or more.
I now have a sat phone as a life-saver, and that is better than CDMA any day.
Looks like Samsung is pushing the note now, what with the Super Bowl commercial, so it'll be a good chance it'll come to Sprint and Verizon. I'll stick with my GSM version.

[Q] Droid 3 - Refurbished with an XT861 I have the XT862

Quick question, had the XT862, which was having some issues with the camera, so I unrooted and using my warranty. They (vzw) sent me the new phone next day (wow) but when I looked on the backside behind where the battery sits, it says it's a XT861. I googled this XT861, and I can't seem to find any information on it really, except that the parts are the same for all XT860, 1, 2 models. Same as the XT862 I assume?
I have 5 business days to return my old phone... but should be the same (XT861 should be rootable, right?)
Adding pictures.
http://db.tt/mlh1k7Tn
So far, all I can see is that the xt861 has no vzw logo on it....
Sent from my DROID3 using xda app-developers app
Update: called vzw, and they were useless. Called motorola, took them 1 hour to find out that the xt861 model is the exact replica of the xt862, but also called the milestone 3 (that makes no sense cuz its labeled xt883)..and was ment to be a non vzw phone.
Anyone want to gander on this? Imma turn it on and see if anything is really different..... *sigh

To my knowledge there are three versions of the phone;
XT862; Verizon Motorola Droid 3 (global phone CDMA/GSM)
XT883; Chinese Milestone 3 (Same hardware as D3, different partitions, can be flashed fully with D3 SBF/FXZ as I recall)
XT860; Motorola XT860 4G (GSM only version)
It's either a misprint, knockoff, or hidden revision that was never really publicized. Can you confirm if it has both CDMA/GSM radios?
Yep. has both radios.
It's running:
System Ver: 5.7.906.XT862.Verizon.en.US

Currently on moble network: CDMA - EvDo rev.A
can be switched from Global to CDMA or GSM/UMTS.

Those APNs are there because of the Vodafone SIM inside the phone. Also; only one data source will be connected at once, either Wifi or 3G, except for if you send an MMS while on wifi, it'll connect to 3G to send it.
I really think it was a typo.

It's an actual model; Chinese version. It's listed in Motorola's update schedule to remain on Gingerbread.
https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c
Here's the update schedule;
MILESTONE 3 XT883 (China)
Will remain on Gingerbread (Android 2.3).
XT861 (China)
Will remain on Gingerbread (Android 2.3)
These are both listed in the Asia-Pacific region of that chart. Though I cannot find much specific to the XT861 besides it being labeled as a Motorola Milestone 3, whereas the XT883 is just 'Motorola XT883'
Appears to be identical to the XT862, just sold in the Chinese market without the Verizon logo.
Motorola probably had to flash these with XT862 software for Verizon warranty replacements. Guess the XT862 stock ran out.
Nothing to worry about.
But the chinese version has blue keyboard highlights and other keys. http://www.mobilegazette.com/handsets/motorola/motorola-xt883/motorola-xt833-2.jpg
is the bootloader unlocked? probably not
are the US bands unlocked ???
If they're running out of stock, maybe this might be a good time for anyone considering any warranty fixes to take a chance on sending it in and possibly getting a free upgrade. What do you think, any possibility there? I'm not with VZW, but Moto says my D3 is still on their warranty, and I've been thinking of sending it in to get my hardware keyboard fixed. I've got one of the ones that frequently misses and/or sticks.
Edited to add: XT861 seems to be a pretty obscure model. I can't find anything on Google for specs, only mentions of accessories and spare parts, all of which seem to be interchangeable with the XT860 and XT862, not that that helps much.

So do I, unfortunately my 1 year warranty ended in July and the keyboard didn't start getting bad til August, go figure. Seeing how decent QWERTY phones keep getting rarer, I guess its time to get used to soft keyboards. But I would love to see them make a QWERTY Razr M, allowing a 4.3" screen without making the phone any bigger.

if you bought the extended warranty, it may be longer than the 1 year warranty. i didn't know (forgot) that we were paying an extra $5.99/mth or something for extended warranty, so we had 1+ years of warranty service per the verizon tech support. the safe mode and other stuff they make you do is ridiculous though...

Nexus 5 on Verizon [POLL]

I want it to happen really bad but I know it probably won't. Verizon will never let Google have the software control they need because CDMA.
I really wish I didn't have unlimited data. Otherwise I'd pick a new carrier.

If it comes to Verizon their going to screw it up somehow, someway!!:crying:
My prediction is it'll come compatible with Verizon's network, but Verizon will refuse to activate it and beat around the bush about why they won't, when they are obviously trying to find a way that they can install bloatware or otherwise screw with the device.
Just look what happened when deb came out.

Well, a device without Verizon Navigator is not much of a device at all. They are just looking out for their customers and want to give them the best experience that they can.
/sarcasm
I REALLY want it to come to verizon.. The only reason why I'm still with vzw is because its either them, Alltel, or Southern Linc. And as ****ty as it is, vzw is the best of those :/
My gnex is getting old and tired and I would relaly like to replace it with the N5. But time will tell. I'm not very optimistic though...
I know this will be a bit selfish, but I hope it won't come to Verizon. They messed everything up, will remove Google Wallet, add their own bloatwares and giant ugly logos, not to mention 6months late updates, it will give a bad reputation to the Nexus brand.
However what I wouldn't mind is if Google work with Verizon and Sprint to make a CDMA device but with pure and unadulterated Android without the firmware being messed with, although Verizon would not agree to that, they need to put in CarrierIQ and what not.

Screw Verizon and its users. Yes, Verizon has a great network, but NO it's not worth getting raped by them and having to use their locked down hacked phones and over priced plans.
Verizon and AT&T are the big brothers of the cell industry, their mentality of "You will take what we give you and like it." is killing it for consumers. Yeah T-Mobile and Sprint has worse networks, but the more people that move to them will show the giants they can't operate like that.
I would drop Verizon in a heartbeat if I could. Paying for a single line with 1gb of data and it's right at 100 bucks. And that's with my 17% discount through work! But, I can't drop Verizon... It's either them or alltel for my area...

Wold you upgrade to a Nexus 6?

The LG G2 is basically a better Nexus 5. I've been looking at the Nexus 6 (and G3) and honestly the G2 is still pretty fast and does everything I need, plus it has unlocked bootloader exploit which is a huge plus.
The only question is, will we get a stable L rom? Will Verizon give us an update, and how long will it take CM/AOSP?
If Verizon actually gets the Nexus 6, I would seriously consider getting it. I still love my g2 though.
Thanks Devs, from my LG G2
Nope, not happening... 5.9" display is just too big. The G2 with a 5.2" is at about the max I can handle with one hand, and I use my phone almost exclusively one-handed. I actually passed on a OnePlus One because of size, going to the N6 is just too big.
I am hoping the playstore version has VOLTE support so we can avoid the Verizon branded Nexus. As long as the device supports VOLTE we can use it on the VZW network, thanks to the 700mhz specturm that VZW uses for its LTE. I'm sure Verizon will try to find some BS loophole to try to exploit to maintain their control. Back on topic... I definitely get the Nexus 6 as I am Nexus fanboy!
Moto is and has been known for their crappy cameras. Even the new Moto X is crappy especially considering that it is a late 2014 device. The Nexus line is and always has been known for using crappy cameras, even the Nexus 5 took a step back from the G2. Put the two together and I wont touch the Nexus 6.
I am considering going to the n5 to be honest the price will go down and if they release a 6 in phone I feel they will keep the n5 around for a bit.
Finally ready to ditch Verizon and move on to a company that will let me text and call from my house. I was thinking the droid turbo because moto apparently has the best radios but idk

I think they are locking it down via your account. Although I guess anyone could turn it on. For the LG G2 you needed an update and you had to go into your account to turn it on. Doesn't makes sense why you would have to do that, I think its just one more point of control maybe to exclude devices. Maybe that is the loophole in the 700 Mhz block rules.
Maybe they are requiring some kind of special software that the device manufacturer or google will have to implement to get it to work? I think they are going to do anything they can to exclude devices they don't approve.

I have had a few droid phones in the past and they apparently had locked bootloaders but devs usually find a way around it.
If Verizon gets the Nexus 6, it's very likely that it will be my next phone. I have a Nexus 7 (2013) and love it. I think with a Nexus 6, we could possibly get Multi-ROM, which would be amazing. I'd love the ability to test drive new ROMs without going through the whole backup/restore process. I think the only things I might miss would be knock-on (easily fixed with a custom kernel, of course) and the IR blaster. I actually do use it.
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Free mobile app
I love the IR blaster and KnockOn. I'm not sure if the Nexus 6 will support the CDMA bands and such. Being limited to just VOLTE 700mhz is sucky. What about 3G and such?
5.9" is too big. I passed on the Note 3 for the G2 because I travel often for work and require being able to comfortably dial/text/email/facebook using one hand while I drive/eat/fiddle with the radio (lol).
I really love my G2 but I fear that all future next gen devices will be ~6.0"

I'm pretty sure the play edition N6 won't support CDMA unless Google has changed its stance on the matter. Either we will have Verizon release another "Nexus" device for us that officially will always be behind. Or we will just have to stick with the play edition N6 and anyone that doesn't have LTE in their area is SOL. But as of now Verizon's LTE footprint is supposidly just as large as the 3G/1x footprint so I would imagine there wouldn't be too many issues.

Once you active voice over LTE via the website that is all you have to do. Stock LG roms have the ability to switch voice over LTE on, not too sure if any CM/AOSP based have the ability to do so yet. You don't need the crappy Verizon software the advanced calling 1.0 or whatever to use voice over LTE. I'm pretty sure either it will be enabled by default in future devices as VOLTE becomes more popular.
I just hope it works with lte from metro pcs or other mvno carriers. I'm actually leaving Verizon for this phone.

Cool, which ones? I has on a LG G3 ROM on my G2 but went back to a Verizon Stock -based one to get VoLTE. I would love to go back to the G3 ROM if I was still able to have VoLTE.
I'm not sure if G3 ROMs have it or not. I know xdabbeb's ROM has it and the stock Verizon 25B and 26A have it.

Yes those are Verizon stock ROMs. Not just a LG G2 stock ROM. Verizon had to push a software update to enable VoLTE. They controlled the feature.
I'm pretty sure any ROM can eventually have the option to enable VoLTE. Once activated on the site we very well could be accessing VoLTE without being on Verizon software. I haven't seen much clarification on this, eventually someone will chime in.

All I was saying is that right now Verizon holds the keys to the VoLTE kingdom as I see it. They require a change on your account, which I assume shows up no matter what. But the key is the software update that is coming from Verizon. It remains to be seen if manufacturer updates or Nexus Google updates will be able to have the same update, or if there was something unique to Verizon in that update. I wouldn't put it past Verizon to have something special in the update even if it goes against the FCC rules for the LTE spectrum. I would bet that Verizon is going to have to be told they have to allow any LTE device on the network. Look at the Nexus 7 issue, IIRC, if you already had a Sim you could pop it in, but they lagged on getting it "in their system" for it to be put on LTE with a new Sim. Its something that shouldn't even have to be "in a system". You should be able to get a data LTE sim for whatever you want.
I get what you're saying and I agree that Verizon will try to pull some BS. We could very well be using the feature on AOSP/ non vzw ROMs without knowing (doubtful) as long as we enabled the provisioning online. Let's just hope that Verizon doesn't try to pull some stupid bs loophole and let us use any unlocked LTE device that supports the band.
