thanks a lot i will chec it ;D
will work with agps?or something? thanks
It will block all data. AGPS won't work unless you have data connection available, if there is none - it'll just function as regular GPS.

Is it possible for me to modify the phone so that it can only do internet access through the wifi and never through the cell towers / providers? I don't have a data plan and don't want it to get ran up with internet stuff when the wifi is out of range. If there is another thread for this could you point me to it? I couldn't find it doing a search. Thanks all.
Daniel herrero CommMgrPro is the answer
hum I thought that app only allowed you to completely disable a service. I'm just looking to block the cell phone from using the cell service provider for internet stuff but still use it for calls and text messages. is that possible with the software? if so I might be looking at the wrong software or wrong version.
There is a program called nodata do search for it, that's what I use.
TW,
I'm in the same boat (no data plan but have constant access to use hotspots). MoDaCo NoData is what I use (lets you select/toggle connects).
The cab can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345168&highlight=nodata
Why not just enter incorrect data connection settings? Then your phone can't access the data network, and no worries.
thanks guys, looks like just what i want. cell phone comes in tomorrow afternoon and i'll be spending all day playing with this. thanks again.
I turned off my data plan since I dont really use it. I was wondering how I could turn off all data and only allow my MMS. My data is always connected for whatever reason I see it connected for hours at a time. I have them all disabled in Kaiser Tweak ATM but I am sure I wont get MMS since it always connects to receive the messages.
Thank you,
"Bandswitch" - I had some success with that.

Use NoData from MoDaCo.
You select to toggle on/off GPRS connections and/or mms connections

Thanks for the tip, gona check it out tonight
Hey all am about to go off roaming with T-Mobile. I know it says the data plan only works in the UK but I'm sure they'll be happy to hit me with the bill if this is not the case.
Is there a way I can 100% stop any data comms from happening?

I just make a dummy data profile with no acess point names or anything and just switch between that and my real one depending on weather i want my diamond to connect to the internet or not lol
No Data doesn't seem to work for me (unless I'm missing something)
I'll try the Dummy connection
Tried blank connection too, no joy unless I need a restart?
Sorry, must've been being dumb before. I installed Advance Comm manager so I could turn off 3G and now it seems to work but I'm not sure if I needed the latter
Cheers anyway
NoData works like a charm for me..
Just install it, run it, and toggle the three different data types.
Hey guys the G1 data plan is getting too expensive for me and I'm planning to cancel soon. After I call in and cancel, how can I get my G1 to stop trying to access the internet unless its Wifi? Or once I cancel I won't have to worry about this?
I also heard a rumor about changing the APN settings so you can still have and use the internet? Is this true?
no real way to stop the phone from accessing the web since even in the background it sends packets of information. that's just how the phone works that's why you need the data plan for this phone.
i want to cancel the plan cause my sis is paying for mine and i dont want her paying 300$+ a year on me. but i dont want to be charged after i cancel the plan cause my g1 is still accessing the internet. Anyways to prevent it from accessing the internet?

i just said no there is no way to to shut off the internet due to the fact that the phone requires you to have a google account to run it even if you flash a adp build and skip the logon proceedure the phone still access the web in the background without you knowledge you will still get billed for data charges at t mobs data rate which i think is 25 to 50 cents per meg used.
disable auto sync
if you disable auto sync you wont be accessing the internet much (assuming you don't have a ton of news widgets or something) then sync when you're connected to wifi (toggle settings works well for this)

the problem is even with auto sync off the phone still polls the internet in the background for updates and other things you could remove every internet reliant app off your phone and it still polls the internet it just the way android is designed he want to stop all internet traffic which is impossible without hacking the rom beyond what we do or pulling out the sim. even google maps requires to poll the internet in the background without him even turning it on. it's just impossible to stop it completely.
Install APNdroid.
Easiest, simplest, most reliable way: Go into settings>wireless controls>Mobile Networks>Access Point names, then click on each one and hit menu then delete. You will also need to finangle with tmobile through their customer service number in order to get them to cancel 3g for your G1 (they have some kind of a policy that's supposed to mean that you have to have an unlimited data plan with the G1, but if you're patient with them they'll let you cancel and just have voice.)
Even easier way. Download Toggle Data from market. That's what I've been using since I cancelled my plan. No more data in the background, so my battery life is longer. Sometimes my phone goes like 2-3 days without charge. (Of course without using wifi)
apns not only control how the phone connects to the internet it also handles how it connects to make calls which is also how it connect to edge/3g. so see the conundrum we have here removing all apns also kills making calls.
Before I bricked my G1, (I don't have a data plan) I just went to the T-Mobile store and told the guy what I could do to stop the internet. He just changed some kind of port number and stopped the internet so I don't get charged.

I use apndroid all the time(to save battery) and I can still send/receive calls with it.

i wasn't talking about apndroid
i was talking about the guy who told him to delete all his apns
if i use apndroid will i still be able to use wifi? also im using a JACHero's rom and i noticed this in the settings...
Data Sync > Google > Background Date Usage [X]
APN Droid only kills the data.

No, the APN controls cellular data (internet and MMS) only. Voice and SMS are "built in" so to speak - as long as the SIM matches yoru carrier's records, they will work.
Deleting the APNs (or using APNdroid) will block cellular data, leaving voice, SMS and WiFi internet unaffected.
Hey people
I've flashed MiniCM7 2.0.5 and 2.0.6 and also flashed GingerDX v006, v007, v008, v009 and v010 and ALL of them have the same problem, i cannot send/receive MMS.
My APNs are correct, as VODAFONE gives with the phone and as it says in VDF PT website. In every FROYO Rom I flashed in my phone i can send/receive MMS without problems, with the same Configs. and APNs.
Can someone help me fixing this bug please?
It's very important for me
Thanks in advance
PS: Sorry for my bad english
Clearly its a CM7 bug, I dont know is it bug up in the tree, or its just on our device.
Peace, DDI!
Sent from my X8 using Tapatalk
KuyaDROID has the same problem, is a CM7 ROM also, so there is a problem on all CM7 ROMs.
There's any way to port any files from CM6 2.2 to fix the problem?
Thanks
I doubt, since I don't use MMS I don't even care about this
You should investigate is this "all-around" CM7 bug or just porblem on our device. If it's so, doixanh or racht could fix it
Peace, DDI!

I think it isn't any problem of my phone hardware. I can send/receive MMS without problems if i use 2.1 or 2.2 roms. So it is probably a CM7 Bug.
I'm a bit noob in this but if you explain me what files are related to this i can compare some files and see if i found some string that appears to be problematic.
Sorry for my bad English and thanks for your help.
Regarding the MMS issues some people mention;
Go to settings/wireless&network/mobile networks/access point names/
click on each APNs and scroll down to "Authentication type" where you chose PAP instead of the default none.
Good luck.
thenks go to JRO001!

Thanks but it doesn't work :S
It must work without changing that because in 2.1 and 2.2 it worked without changing that so it must work here too.
Well, let's wait for someone who knows a bit of development to see if the bug is detected (and fixed)
Thanks everybody for your help

I also had this bug in froyobread (2.2).. the only way you can receive/send MMS' is to enable data trafic.. yes it will make you lose money but there are ways to prevent this like changing the apn of your internet connection to an invalid one, so you can have data traffic enabled without connecting to the internet trough 3G.
The easiest way is to install a widget that turns 3G internet on and of (APN OnOff for ex) so you can have data traffic enabled all the time without having concerns with money. When you want to use 3G internet you just click the widget so it turns the apn to a valid one.
Will it use more battery having data traffic always on even if it's not connected? Yes, a bit.. because the phone will try to connect to the invalid apn now and then but it's the only way until the bug is fixed..

I know that, i use APN Portugal to set up all APN's and leave the Internet disabled. Then i enable data trafic and "voila" xD
But in Gingerbread CM7 i cannot do that. It says that cannot send.
You probably made this already, but whenever I get a "cannot send" I just disable and then re-enable the 3G and it just works. (I have to do this every time I reboot the phone).
Regarding the wasting of battery, has I rarely use the 3G for internet navigation I deleted the Internet APN and changed the MMS "APN Type" from "mms" to "mms, supl". Now the 3G will only connect when sending or receiving MMS.
I had to type the full apn in all of the gingerbread roms and I get Mms in and out on o2 so dose the wife so that 2phone I know defo get mms.it may look the same as what's on the rom but its not
PS you must make a new apn with your sim network just Google it to get the right settings
super.sense on x8
Just switched to Kuyadroid to try it out today, and whilst I was able to get MMS on GingerDX, I just can't get anything through (in or out) on Kuyadroid.
Any ideas people?
Impster
umm strange cuz i dont got any problem with sending/reciving mms... i didnt change anything etc...

To solve the problem with the MMS!
Set APN original
Go to settings / network & wireless / mobile networks / access point names /
Delete the Internet and leave only the MMS
Always worked with me!
