Greetings.
Probably 3-5 times a day my 3g network connection will become unresponsive. The upload indicator in the 3g icon will flash on and off constantly, even if I'm at the home screen with all applications killed by Task Manager. I'll eventually get "Web page not available" in the Browser, or "A network error has occurred." if I'm in Market. Wether it be while browsing the Market, searching the web.. it just cuts out even though the signal strength is fine. I havn't been able to find anything to remedy this. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced issues like this and has been able to fix it. The only way i've been able to get it working again is either to toggle 2g only on and off, and sometimes if that doesn't work I'll just reboot the phone. Running stock 2.2, Network: T-mobile -95dBm 9 asu In service(if that helps)
Thanks for any information.
I added the following to my build.prop file, right under ro.ril.enable.managed.roaming, and 3G works a lot better.
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.gprscalss=12
ro.ril.hep=1
ro.ril.enable.dtm=1
ro.ril.enable.hsdpa.category=8
ro.ril.enable.a53=1
ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix=1
ro.ril.htcmaskw1.bitmask=4294967295
ro.ril.htcmaskw1=14449
ro.ril.hsupa.category=6
Root required, and comfort with editing system files. If you screw up, you have to reinstall your ROM if you didn't do a backup first.
i would like to learn how to edit build . prop
i've seen this problem posted many times, so you are not alone. but i have never experienced it yet, so its very strange that some have it whlie others dont.
editing the build prop is pretty easy, there plenty of info from a google search.
You are right. This issue has been posted many times and it's hard to work out why some people have the issue and some people don't.
It's very frustrating.
We have been doing a LOT of testing at AndroidSPIN to try and identify the cause and possible solutions.
You can find a LOT of information HERE
Any more information people can provide would be much appreciated.

Just pushed it. Same thing with that code. Also tried one that used UMTS only, but after an hour I decided that wasn't a solution. Called Nexus support who ended up getting me over to T-mobile. My IMEI wasn't matching up on their system, and my plan might have been incorrect as well, so gonna wait 48 hours. If problem persists just gonna return it still within 14 days so I don't think unlocking it would matter.
UPDATE:
Just under 48 hours, my connection hasn't timed out all day. T-Mobile updated my IMIE in their system, and that seemed to be what worked!

Currently running 2.2 FRF83, but I experienced this on 2.1 too...
Sometimes whilst browsing, the browser will stall when requesting a new web page. Eventually the page will timeout with a page unavailable or data connection error.
At the same time no other data functions work - email, Twitter etc. Also tried Dolphin browser but no luck, so I don't think its browser related.
The 3G icon shows both up/down arrows flashing as if it's requesting and receiving data.
While this is happening, a quick check of the phone info page does indeed show packet and byte counts increasing for both PPP Sent and PPP Received.
It's as if the data is coming down, but the phone doesn't recognise this.
To fix the issue I turn the radio off and back on. This immediately solves the issue, until it happens again, which could be in a few minutes again.
Have tried different radio settings like WCDMA Preferred, WCDMA Only, Auto prl etc. Still the same.
Has anyone else ever experienced this? Any possible solutions?
I have the same exact thing happening to me. I'm on AT&t in the US. Very frustrating, I was hoping that 2.2 would fix this. I've sent an email to Google regarding this and have yet to hear anything back.
So I'm not the only one then. It'll be interesting to see how many more Nexus One owners experience this issue.
Hope there's a solution somewhere out there.
Same ned a fix bad

I get the same problem using the FroYo radio (4.06).
No problems with the older 4.04 radio though. Unfortunately I can't use that with 2.2 of course.
I was in America using At&t and had no problems with 2.1. I moved to Turkey and got on Turkcell and had problems then either.
I installed 2.2 (since the first ones came out FRF50) and am now on the latest and ever since I have had similar problems. I have to reboot the phone when this happens and then it works for many hours until it happens again.
When I go into market it pops up a dialogue box and makes me hit retry twice and then works.
It would be nice if this was straightened out.
I just got off the horn with Google support. The SE had me do *#*#INFO#*#* then bring up the menu and choose "select radio band" I then set the phone for "USA Band" the phone confirmed success. This seems to have worked for me. Hope it helps you.
Yep, I already have mine set to Euro Band. The "3G Freeze" still occurs for me.
Interested to hear how you get on with that Band setting nonetheless.
I'm on AT&T and had fantastic signals prior to the FRF83B update. Since I updated the radio, I'm having the exact same issues. It's becoming a pain when I'm trying to stream internet radio, because it cuts out every 20 or 30 seconds. I also noticed the other day, where I use to get strength, I had *no* reception.
Hi,
I recently updated to Froyo using the registry hack, i was on uk orange jf3 before.
Since being on it i have constantly been struggling with the 3g and the network signal, at first i thought the 3g was disconnecting when i turned the wifi on but then the network signal starting disappearing and it would show the circle symbol with the diagonal strike through it to show that it was not picking up any networks.
I read somewhere that cycling flight mode might solve the issue, but for some reason once i turn on/off flight mode it just hangs at that stage and will not change until after a restart.
I have also tried formatting both the internal and ext sd cards and i have done a factory reset twice.
Nothing has helped, it connects to 3g initially (which shows that it shouldn't be a setting problem?) and the network signal is also fine initially but then after a short amount of time or inactivity or switching on wifi the 3g won't connect and the network signal just dies.
If anyone has any ideas as to what is causing this or how to fix it i would really appreciate it.
Having a phone that can't make or receive calls when i need it to is really f'ing me off.
P.s. I have read and searched other topics for help on this but nothing so far has helped.
Might be something like I have? But I got no reply here...

Yer i read your post, what i don't understand is that it was totally fine in 2.1 and now in 2.2 it's messed up, not sure if that is the same for you?
I think it is something to do with it being for Norwegian users not UK and that somehow affects it.
I have checked the apn and it all seems correct, do you also have the issue with flight mode not working properly?
Just found this on an internet search...
: Samsung Galaxy S v2.2/Froyo update
Posted: 5 days ago in response to: stefan
Some news on the update to Android 2.2 for the Samsung Galaxy S. Currently we are making some changes to get it working better when using Orange signal, and are therefore looking to release the update by the end of November – obviously this is a delay on our original release date but we hope it will be worth the wait!
Kind Regards

Not sure exactly what that means but it sure sounds like this might be the problem i am having.
I would be interested to know if other UK orange users have been having problems?
I would also like to know if it is possible for me to go back to to a previous version so i can actually use my phone.
I am orange uk, and have similar problem at home, but works well at office. Maybe it is due to the barrier of signal. if the signal level is lower than this barrier, only emergency call can be.
I do not know how to do but my friend advised me to update the moderm
So, right now I am using the Axura RC1 CE (I will update later), but I have had the problem described in the topic on various other ROMs using the JK3 modem.
It works fine for a few days (time is random, I have not been able to manually reproduce the issue), then randomly I lose all reception. Switching to flight mode fails, it gives no error, it just does nothing, in the notification bar it just says (searching). I have to reboot the phone to get the phone functioning again.
Anyone else experiencing this on ATTs network, or if there is a fix, I spent the last hour searching and going through the various threads to no avail (or I just suck at searching)..
Did you try the Axura thread?

I'm having the same issue but I've tried Assonance as well and still get the random no service. Tried different i9000 modems as well--anyone know if its safe to use a captivate modem??? I'm guessing no but just want to know if anyone has tried it without borking the phone.

I'm having this same issue as well, that's why I've tried to stay away from the UGJK3 modem, however, it's seems every custom ROM is starting to use it
As far as using a captivate modem with an i9000 ROM, I've tried that also, while it didn't totally brick my phone, I did get random FCs. I've read that is a dangerous path to go down.
I feel the same way. I might try the CogKernel and see if that helps...
Please, please, PLEASE do not post these types of things in Development.

+1 Lets keep this forum area clean .. its just for development stuff guys.
I have had the same issue with all I9000 modems, the only fix that has worked for me is to enter the service menu and force WCDMA 850 Band only. Also, questions should be posted in the question forum.
[this thread is pretty relevant to development - considering the rom chefs are using this modem in their releases and it has a potential major flaw. if the mods find it better to be in Q&A, then please move it - otherwise, i think the right eyes will see it here]
yes, yes and yes!
ive been posting about it in the perception thread, but no one (save for 1 user) chimed in with the same issue.
we both noticed that we both have an issue where we will bounce from 3G to H and back fairly often. this leads me to believe that it could be part of the problem.
i just odin'ed back to stock because my phone isnt receiving incoming calls now.
what i had planned to do was flash the latest perception but use a different modem... but it seems like the only sensible modem is the JK3 (although there is word on the street a new one just leaked?). so that idea is kind of out.
someone here said they were going to try cogkernel2, but i was on setirons and cogkernel2 and it happened with both. it seems to be a modem issue.
i wanted to lock the phone to use 3G only to see if that would help, but no one shared a way how... but reading this post it seems i can do it from the service menu - though i dont know exactly what to set/change to keep it only on 3G. (any help would be great).
so i believe im going to flash perception 8 and see if i can lock it into 3g mode and go from there. this is getting pretty tiring. im hoping if a new modem releases that will help, but i honestly am not sure i can wait since it is making the phone unusable.
below are my posts from the perception thread on the issue.

i searched but did not find...
i see others have had issues with APN force closing. i do as well, but assuming that isnt a problem, i dont mind.
my issue is that after a certain period of time left asleep, my phone will completely fall off the network. changing flight and data mode dont work, nor help. a restart works. this has started a day or two ago, but was not an issue for the first week (give or take). if it is relevant, my network constantly swaps between H and 3G where i live.
i have not found a setting to force 3g (and disable hsdpa) as i figured it was the network hopping that was doing it. am i just missing that setting? anyone else with this issue? (again, i saw people with the apn force close but not complete loss of network unrelated to initial flash)
also, i think that each build should get its own thread. it is VERY difficult to find accurate information on the current build once a thread has 4 builds and 250 pages in it. even with search, it would still be a good idea.
thanks and thanks.

of note: going into wifi settings is also borked. it will eventually time out and FC. i also think that the times my phone has completely lost network and not reconnected have happened more often when charging. but that could be coincidence.

in relation to my post below yours, does locking the 850 band only force the phone to use only 3G, or is HSDPA/HSUPA still enabled but you found the 850 band to be more stable.
this is what my next attempt will be to get a solid platform going.
I've tried different modems other than jk3 and it doesn't fix the problem. Stinks that you've used Cogkernel2 and it doesn't help. I also tried the different band selection in service mode and it also hasn't help me (apparently this worked for some people). If you want to give it a shot do the following:
1. Dial *#0011#
2. menu button then soft back key
3. then phone control -> network control -> band selection
4. good luck!

ugh. that is disheartening. i will try the band lock, thanks.
can you confirm or deny that when you notice your phone goes completely out of service that it has been hopping between 3G and H? it would be interesting to see if we all have that issue as part of it.
also, fingers crossed for that supposed new modem.
/sigh
Yeah this really sucks because these roms are great with this one very big exception. I haven't noticed the hoping before I need to reboot. I have noticed that if I switch into airplane mode once I drop service I can't turn it off.
I had the same issues with Axura and Percetion. I found that switching my network control to WCDMA 1900 only pretty much fixed it. The only problem I had after was that any time I lost service naturally, ie, bad area, or shielded rooms, whenever I came back into a good service area I could never get a signal again. So I would have to reboot.
In the end, I'm back on Cog, 2.3b7 and no issues for about 14 hours now.

I'm using the non oc. I'm not gaming or doing anything too wild with my phone so non is just fine for me.
hmmm, makes me think that's the issue then. most of these roms have kernels that have the oc feature.
hey keener, did you have the oc version of cog?

I've been steadily upgrading my GF's phone with Albinoman's builds and they have been working great! However, going to the September 17th build caused a very large drop in network signal strength. She still gets 4g, but its only ever 1 or 2 bars. Mobile data is sporadic at best. Also, the battery drain has been really bad on this build, and I'm assuming it has to do with the signal strength (if its unrelated I'll deal with it separately. Haven't looked at that yet as the signal is the major problem).
The other problem is that she cannot send MMS anymore. I don't know if that is related or not, but if I'd figure I'd toss it out there.
What I've done:
* 2x Reflashed the 9-17 build, and flashed the kernel using ADB. This was a factory restore before the reinstall. (S-On)
* Tried to re-do all of the APN's based on numerous websites that list AT&T APN information. Many of them just caused further problems, so I'm back to defaults (default,supl,mms @ mmsc.mobile.att.net)
* Investigated http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348361 (as per the FAQ), but it looks like that is for a different phone entirely so I wanted to get opinions before I looked into flashing a RIL.
I'm open to suggestions at this point, and if people think its important I'm sure I can re-do more of what I've already tried. Thank you all for any suggestions or assistance!

The FAQ is just a reference guide... Don't flash anything thats from another phone or youll brick your phone
Try what the other people tried a few posts ago . Look in the cm10.2 thread for it. it has to do with editing the build.prop
Send an mms to yourself first then try to send it to other people
I have been experiencing data issues after rooting my device. The signal bar never seems to fill all the way since rooting. Before root I would have pretty consistent LTE. I still have a data connection, however it isn't nearly as it was before. Also, next to the signal bar I've noticed an "!" every now and then, I've tried searching for what this might mean, others have experienced it, but there were no answers. I am on Verizon, my SIM Status states I am on the network,
Network type is CDMA - 1xRTT
Baseband version is: MDM9625_104446.01.02.101R
Building # is LMY47Z white/64
I had read some where on this forum about flashing different radios. I've never attempted to do so. I'm fairly new to rooting, this is my second phone I've rooted my self. So feel free to use Crayons when explaining. The only thing I've done outside of the root was enable WIFI tethering through the system/build.prop.
Thanks for any help
Well rooting alone will not affect your data. You must have done something else to affect it

I wasn't sure if maybe the recovery I used might of had an old radio of some sort, not really sure. I used TWRP if that matters. Like I said the only other thing I edited was the Build.prop with "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true"

if you messed up on the spelling in the build.prop method, you wouldnt be able to boot. twrp recovery does not have a radio, and is the only recovery for the n6. and rooting doesnt touch your radio, all root does is give you administative permissions. as a fact, since you still get a radio signal, even though crappy, its still a signal and nothing is wrong with your device. the only issue that you seem to be having is with your provider. do you live deep in the country? i know that with tmobile, thats where bad signals are, and some report the same issue as your having.
I get weird signal lte bars, but that's not indicative of call signal right? I am on cricket aka AT&T, using in central metro area, it tends to flux. Where as Nexus 5 and LG G3 seemingly had better signal (going by bars).
EDIT: have you tried checking your Settings>Battery>Cell Standby? What's you "time without a signal"? Today I got 3%, previously it was 10%, but I'm going in and out of buildings/elevators.
Well after a couple days I've been checking the Cell Standby like you mentioned. Its around 10%. When I'm at work its about 60%, but that's because I work in a controlled area that blocks most cell signals. My connection seems to be getting better, I can stream Netflix and other things on without much problems. I had my phone for a little bit before I rooted, and I never got the "!" next to my signal bar. I guess the "!" means it is searching for a data signal. I get it at least 3 times a day. I do live in a rural area, I wouldn't call it back woods. I'm about 30 min from the capital. but everything is settling out,
thanks for the replies!
