Hi, I installed the leaked Froyo build a while back, and the FRF72 update just now. My question now is about rooting my phone:
1. What are the benefits of rooting my phone? Why would I do it?
2. Is there a step by step guide to help me?
Thanks very much,
Steve

This is in the wrong section, this should go in the Q/A section. But to answer your question, rooting is like becoming the admin of your phone. You can do things that are not allowed by regular users. You can change the rom, and install other mods, install apps that regularly wont work, all kinds of things. There are a few step by step guides, check the Dev or Themes section in the Nexus One group.
I did a pre-rooted update.zip
http://www.myhangoutonline.com/inde...ango1/public_html/jsmallfib_top/leonnib4/beta
how to do it is pretty easy:
add su, superuser.apk and busybox + boot.img
update the update-script

Hi Guys,
Did have a search but I'm not sure i speak the same language as some of the posts I tried to read
Woke up this morning and thought I'd have a fiddle with my Nexus. I'd used Androot to get root. I downloaded ROm Manager....flashed Clockwork recovery, and flashed a few roms....
Here are my questions:
Is that it? Is that how to Flash ROMs?
When I flashed FRF91 Stock Nexus ROM super user wouldn't give me root...ideas?
What's the most frequently used ROM, and can I flash it this way
finally...Am I missing anything or is that all I need to do?
Cheers for help. Not a smartphone noob, but seems I'm an Android noob
I know it's a noob couple of questions but if somebody could help I'd be very appreciative. Thanks
Read the forums. Then ask very specific questions.
2.2.1 was released to block root exploits by U. Androot. Search for rageagainstthecage in the forums or more simply "root F****" please replace asterisks with actual build.
PS: Is there more to Modding? That's subjective. Objectively ...post issues so devs know.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Basically I was asking if the way in which I was flashing was correct but yeah you did help. Will look for the 2.2.1 rooted build

Hi I just have what I think is a simple question. I would like to use the updater method to update my overcome rom. What are the necessary steps that I need to take? Thank you!
If you already have Overcome 1.1 or above then you can just download the updater version of the ROM and flash through recovery
Thank you. I was unsure as to what the process exactly was. Flash from my computer or tab? But I was able to figure it out and indeed it was a relatively easy to update from my tab. I'm new to Android so I am just getting used to all the jargon. Thanks for your help and response!

Can you help me with the steps that you should follow for a successful root?
I tried what I found on XDA but unfortunately does not work.
Or at least can not do it properly.
Can someone for me to say my step by step how to do.
Thanks
PS: I do not want to upset anyone but I do not know what to try to go to the root

Hello XDA,
I have a SGS I9000. I want to root it and I've been searching all day for a guide that isn't a one click root.
But I have a few questions about what everyone is talking about when they say JP2, JP3, etc.
Also, I'm running Froyo 2.2 and there doesn't seem to be much for it. Could someone please point me in the right direction?
if there is information about the phone that can help find where to go, just ask.
Thanks XDA.

You should 1st flash to 2.3 using odin (https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...i9000-flashing-to-original-rom-using-odin.46/), then root (https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...-i9000-rooting-gt-i9000-2-3-3-india-ddjv9.47/) and then you can proceed installation with ICS (https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...dwich-4-0-4-on-samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000.125/) or JB (https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum/threads/installing-jelly-bean-4-1-on-galaxy-s-gt-i9000.131/)

I didn't think it was that complicated.
In that case, could you suggest a oneclick application?
