Hello, I would like to know whether it is possible to have Win Mobile 6.5 installed on this mobile phone or not (HTC Desire). Please advise. Thank you in advance.
1. Wrong section.
2. Everything is possible if you make it. Is there currently a stable WinMo ROM? No, and I don't believe there will be.
There is something, though. It's called HTC HD2.

Sorry if this thread is not in appropriate section. Feel free to move it where it should be. I am new here.
Regarding my question, I don´t want to make flame what is better. The think is following. I had a HTC TP2 but it felt down from my tank-bag in 270 kmph. It survived but was damaged. My repair work was its end .o]
Now I am looking for some device which has suitable dimensions like HTC TP2 - Desire is OK, display res. 800*480, 1GHz processor. Of course I will try Adroid system, but I have many applications for WM, for example iGO8. So I am checking whether it is possible to change ROM and have there WM ROM. XDA developers are well known as a bunch of people who are able to do everything. I was searching forum slightly, but didn´t foind appropriate thread... Please help.

But you've been answered. No, there is no WinMo ROM for Nexus/Desire. No, the chances someone would want to make WinMo port for these devices in any shape or form is slim to none, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

That is the same troll, still here? I'm surprised. You should be buying another device and heading over to some other forums, instead of posting complete nonsense. You should at least be smart enough to understand that I've meant stable WinMo ROMs to run on Nexus, and not WinMo ROMs in general.
LMAO
I'm following this thread.

Ohhh - did someone else have the same low opinion of android? Not surprising, considering how many people have thrown their n1 into a drawer until Google can fix some of the bugs.
If you meant WM roms for N1, why didn't you write that instead of writing it like a general statement? Troll posts like that attract deserving responses

If you're using ANY of TouchIT 4.x's, whether the normal ones or ITsBlack, please choose TouchIT V4 since I can't edit the poll.

Alrite,
My rom is tied with the Stock Rom, looks like I might need to rename my rom from Open Touch To Lonely Touch...
Lol
i think most people who visit this forum are Herald users and not Wing users. So the poll should reflect that too. I personally love Open Touch.

What do you mean? TouchIT's V3 and V4 are Herald only. Did I miss any Herald only ROMs?
wat he mean is, there is more herald user so that will make touch it be a favorable rom and generally speaking if you buy a herald from the factory u are a advance user and probably will post more in the forums. Most post are from herald users!!! (I think outside the box)
Open Touch 2.x all the way =] Clean, fast, and easy as all heck to install. All you cooks keep up the good work!

I'm using it and i like it! woohoo!
I'm again on canonyang's ROM(PDAviet). Its not there in the list
hmm why there are no "my own" or "any pdaviet" options?
im currently using latest pdaviet 5.2.1938 and its best for me because of speed and for addition i have allergic reactions for "touch things"..
why nobody cares about speed and amount of ram? there are many things that can be upxed, placed in xip, deleted...

Exactly the reason I use PDAviet 4.17.07.16(5.2.1933 build 18533.0.7.0) WWE(canonyang). I m allergic to Touch stuff
edit: @slemag: is the 5.2.1933 faster than the one I'm using? Is it avaliable without touch stuff too?
i do not know.. i used 6roms since last sunday when i bought my herald.. 1938build which im using now is much faster than touchit and the battery leaks slower. but something still draning all my precious mAh...
i used 1933 to short to tell you it is faster or not.
this rom is not much "touched" - ive got finnaly NORMAL wm6 dialer which is much more usefull than touchdialer (especialy black dialer with black fonts..)
rom that i using can be good basem rom for making quick rom but memory still disapear sometime - like in 1933 and 1908. when i resolve my problem with battery ill try to port build "318" (i dont remember full number) and/or whole Nothin's Paradox rom which is the best i used with my old wizard. ~37mb ram free and best stability/speed. but now ive got few exams and i need to study hard :/
People in general always wants the new things in this case CustomROMs .
So I believe the most up to date ROMs are in higher usage and more spread,
because those of us who come here are not the regular user who sticks with the stock ROM and settings.
Personally I would like to give Ivan's new ROM a try once it's out. Really looking forward.
But right now I stick with IT'sBlack, not sure if I update to Touch-IT 4.4 yet.
The Open Touch ROMs are only for the Wings so I won't use them (my only reason) and Open Touch 1.0 is too outdated for me to put it on my terra.
In general I don't have a favourite ROM, I just use that ROM with gives me the most satisfaction and thats lately ITje's ROMs.
I guess with the release of OpenTouch 2.5 for the Wing owners it gonna be as popular as the Touch-It 4.0 and successors.
Updated and maintained releases are always in the favor of this little community.
Thanks to all of you who are devoting their free time to give us pleasure with our Heralds and Wings.
Hi there,
do we need a subforum for Wingusers only??
If so i would ask to create a new subforum...
Please vote for 1 week after that time I will delete this thread again....
Thanks
Daniel
it would be nice to have a area for wing specific threads, gets kinda confusing for what works with the wing and what doesnt
I remember as a newb it took me quite a while before I figured out that herald=atlas=wing and a subforum I think would help everybody out.
yess. took me so long to figure out its the same phone lol..
dam temobile and there renaming
I'd like to see a tmobile wing specific sub-forum as well.
Great idea. Being a newbie, it took me a while to get piece everything together....When I started out, I was on the other Wing forum and it took a while for me to figure out the whole Herald/P4350 thing...
pffft. No. There's not that much Wing-specific WM6 content here. It would be a waste and it would also look really empty...

I think that it would be helpful for new folks getting started.
I voted yes, but since david made the cab to fix keyboard for wing users Im not gonna cook wing specific roms. And all my roms will be posted in Herald wm6
I have voted no. My reasoning is that the most notable difference between the two devices are minimal (the keyboard mapping) which has basically been resolved by David Duprat. Although it may be a bit more organized, I think it would be a waste since the majority of the questions are not device specific. I would hate to have to jump between forums looking for an answer that could apply to all herald like devices.
But hell I'm flexible.

Ditto.......we've obviously all found it, why do we need a new forum with duplicate info?
I think if any we should ad another section under Herald (and possibly for other devices as well) that is dedicated to new roms and kitchens. This would clean up the existing forums quite a bit.

Agreed. There's no real reason. It's just going to slow down the production of new ideas since they'll be divided between two camps. It's the same device minus the keyboard driver.

The more I think about it, the more I want to take my vote back. Add one more to no and subtract from yes.
I voted Yes, just for the sake of clarity, and organized structure.
And it spares us many questions like : ''Will this work on my Wing/Herald?" wich,
even with David Duprat's solution wil be asked several times more.
Although the Herald Mobile 6 forum is already full of mixed stuff, it doesn't really matter that much.
still I think it's better

It works on both. The keyboard might not match, though...
But if they don't read the heading or the post that talks about it being a herald or wing item, why would they read the forum name? j/k
Personally, I think it would be ridiculous to open a new forum... Sure, it might make things "more organized" ... but its also going to be a pain in the ass... and besides the ROM, what other DEVICE SPECIFIC questions arise? NONE what so ever.
So you're going to split everyone and basically the only thing that's going to be happening in the new forum is a topic for Ivan's roms and a topic for ttran's roms...
I say keep it together, it makes more sense. I don't want to have to jump around yet another forum when the devices are the same, except for the keyboard problem, which has a solution now.
the only pro for me is - that noobs can find things more easyly.....
and at the moment 75% say yes (nearly 50 votes)
take it from a noob, it took me close to 2 weeks b4 i learned the herald was the wing p3 whatever it is... lol
im still totaly confused by all this
maybe instead of a new form just add WING to the title page
"Also known as: HTC P4350" is what it says
make it say
"Also known as: HTC P4350 / T-Mobile Wing"
maybe a well layed out sticky thred,
explaining the differances of each model of this phone
i run a few forusm myself and keeping things streamlined is a pain.
but this is a tricky one...
I agree with nyitalian718. Just rename the forum to Herald/Wing.
We'll be the only forum to have a non-HTC codename. hehe
I'm going with nyitalian718 and ivanmmj's opinion of adding all the known names of the Herald/Wing to the list just like in any other sub-forum.
It's not too much ask if a noob has to read some pages/stickies. All of us started like this and gain their knowledge.
At the end every major topic/problem has been dicussed at least once.
And the last thing I would recommend a new PDA owner is to void the warranty by flashing his device.
He should first get familiar with his PDA and then read the infos on this forum.
Papamopps and the core members of the Herald/Wing community did a great job on writing guides and tutorials on...let's say on everything

Circle': The general thought is that Microsoft has a two-tiered strategy: WM7 for the masses, but still supporting WM 6.x for business-type users. I suspect that we will continue to see WM 6.x and above ROMs leaked here. My guess is that MS will continue to polish the UI and increase finger friendliness.

Supporting WM6.x does not mean continued development. Support in the sense that MS supported XP after Vista. <insert Vista Rant in another thread>
Let's consider Windows Mobile out to pasture. It was fun while it lasted, but now it's time to move on. If they could make WM any more modern they would have done so by now.

Wow! What an open ended question.
Reference
Three cupcake roms
Fourteen Donut roms
Fourteen Eclair roms
Twelve Hero/SenseUI roms (with 1.5 - Donut)
Ten Hero/SenseUI roms with (2.1 - Eclair)
Three Blur roms (with 1.5 - Donut)
So we have a total of (pulling up calculator app) 56 different roms. And what was the question you were asking? Oh yeah... which one is our favorite? What kind of answer are you expecting? Do you want speed? Stability? Working bluetooth? Working Wi-Fi? Required DeathSPL? Required sdcard partitioning? Asking such a question is going to give you mixed results with very biased opinions. My advice is to first flash Amon_Ra's recovery, use nandroid to backup what you have and try some out for yourself. Make sure that you read the requirements for each rom first. I seriously doubt that anyone has tried all 50+ roms so any answer that you receive from such a question is going to be very biased. If you want my opinion though and I'm assuming that you do I suggest using a rom made by Cyanogen. Which one depends on your setup. If you want to run a fairly stable Eclair rom you can try test2 but be warned that it requires the DeathSPL which has been known to brick phones. Most Hero/SenseUI roms(with the exception of Micro Hero (1.5 - Donut)) require the DeathSPL rom as well and I believe that all 2.0 and 2.1 - Eclair roms require it too. However note that most Hero roms don't have working bluetooth on the G1. So you have a great user interface but you sacrifice a little bit of sdcard space and a working bluetooth connection. Plus the risk of bricking your phone is a turnoff for some newbies. So if you don't want to risk bricking your phone and have a hard time following instructions then I would skip that particular SPL and stick with that one that you have (assuming that you don't already have it of course.)
Now some roms require a properly partitioned SD card. That is FAT/ext 2/3 or 4/Swap. This is most Hero/SenseUI roms. Some may require ext3 while others may require something different. So again... you'll have to read up on the requirements and experiment for yourself.
You don't want to flash the Danger SPL and don't feel like reformating your SDCARD with separate partitions? Well... looks like your stuck with very few options. Less than half if I calculated accurately. So I guess it boils down to what you have now, what you are willing to do to experiment, what you want in regards to functionality versus stability.
Good luck.
He wants to know which one YOU like. He's not asking for a suggestion. He's not asking for links to ones. He's not asking which one is fastest. He's not asking which one is most stable. He's not asking how to do it. He's not asking where to get them.

My point to this is that what is your favorite is not necessarily going to be mine. I prefer Cyanogen's rom, but clearly your preference differs. Which is exactly my point. And all this is going to mean absolutely nothing to him unless he actually tries them for himself. So how can one measure the best rom? Doesn't everybody have different taste? Doesn't everybody run different amount of screen with a variety of apps and widgets? No one is the same so asking for "the best" or even "What do you use?" is actually kind of a rhetorical question because in the end it's up to him to try the ones that interest him and all of our comments and suggestions mean nothing. What if everyone replies "Use Cyanogen's 5.0.7 rom" and the OP doesn't have the DangerSPL and doesn't want to risk bricking his device? What if he uses Wi-Fi and bluetooth constantly? What if he just has a 512mb class 2 sdcard? Does he want a large variety of themes or is he comfortable with the stock look?
Since we don't know how can we really give proper input? And you don't need to look far to know what other people use. Just look at the Development thread. The thread with the most input should tell you something right there. I honestly wouldn't trust a rom that has been out for a a couple months with no updates and only a couple pages of replies. However commonly used roms such as Cyanogen's, MLIGNS, bbuchacher, HTCCLay, dwang, manup456, KiNgxKxlicK, etc all have reputations of being very good roms. Some are great for eye candy, some are great for stability, others for speed.
Indeed he asked for our opinion and what we use... but the fact of the matter is that new roms are released/updated almost daily. So to suggest one today may not be a fair suggestion tomorrow. And if the OP just wants to know what we use and doesn't like suggestions... then this post is kind of useless in my opinion because that's all he's going to get.

I'm with borodin that new ROMs come almost everyday, but narrow it down to a branch or two. You really generally have 1 or 2 favorite branches. Mine is cyanogenmod and Dr. Cloverdale's (which is just cyanogenmod). So my favorite ROM is cyanogen. Sure today it's test3 and in a week it will be test4, but that won't change the fact that cyanogenmod is still made by cyanogen. Either way, I'll still use cyanogen.
This would be better in General. This isn't exactly a Q&A. Would that have made it better for both of you?
I mean seriously, when your friend asks you what your favorite soda is, do you sit there and try to explain to him that what what you like isn't going to apply to him because he might like a small amount of sugar and you like a lot of sugar?

Don't get your blood pressure up over it, I'm just simply curious how people prioritize, expanding my horizons.
Didn't expect to have to kick off my own thread, but here goes. I like the new version of Cyanogen. It's fast, as stable as I can tell, no force crashes in my experience, and my battery doesn't really drain any worse than it did before.
Hehe, this thread might as well have asked "Who are the high strung a holes around this forum?" because that's the answer I got.
I am sorry if this was misplaced. I'm still getting used to the organization of this forum, being a new member and all, just trying to soak up as much information as I can from others. The ones that are generous enough to allow it, that is.

This PROBABLY would have fit better in General, but here isn't as bad as nubs flooding the Android Development section with questions. Plus, you're new. All forums are different with the way that the consider sub-forums should be used. It's all in experience.
I agree, when I first read I was like, wtf? Did they even read the TITLE or just click and post?
My favorite is cyanogenmod as well (now). I honestly like the donut more, though. Donut just seems to be more snappy and stable and ANY Eclair. Maybe Eclair will eventually evolve, which I believe it will, and then it will be an everydayer, but I don't see that as of now.

Yeah, it does get a little old maintaining a test/experimental build if I don't have time to live in my PC chair.

Very true. Once it's stable it will be awesome, though.
Hi all!
Is there a full and stable Android ROM for topaz that can completely replace Windows Mobile and run as the main OS?

Did you even read the other threads in this forum? The answer to your question has been given a million times now...

Yes I did and I have downloaded two versions that I already tried on my device. Both of them boot using an executable after windows mobile boot. And both of them do not response after 10 minutes of use when the device has gone to sleep mode (screen off).
I would really appreciate it if you could point the thread that answers my question.
Why did you buy Topaz with Windows if you will use Android?
Maybe it would be better to buy some device with Android ROM

If you DID read it, then you'd know that the NAND version is in development, and all you can use right now is HARET.
Oh, and you're setting it up wrong if it keeps freezing.
Guys take it easy! You don't have to be that arrogant!
@Tsubaki-San If my question is answered a million times, then I guess there is reason why people ask the same and same again. So I will not feel bad!
@zizkam I have my device for a year now and I was thinking to change it a little bit without giving any money. Maybe it's a bad idea. We will see...
@seargent007 I guess that I missed this part and this is way I'm asking. I didn't mean to cause any trouble!
Thanks for your help!!!

Sorry, I know what you mean. How about now?
I'd love for it to happen, and I've been following this forum for quite some time now. Still nothing.
I think we'll just have to buy a new phone... and not one with an OS by Microsoft (NEVER AGAIN!!!). Not to disrespect the great work done on this project...
A fully stable version would be great, but unfortunateley I don't see us seriously using Android on Topaz, other than just for testing and fun.

I disagree, the development team has done most of the work, it isn't out of the question to see a stable rom soon.
I'd really like this to work ! i've been using my htc desire for a few months now,
but i'm looking forward to using my diamond again for daily use - with android - !
