I know this is my first post here but I've done my best to search the forums and I haven't found anything that looks like it helps me.
I just got my AT&T Tilt yesterday. It came unlocked (I'm using it with T-Mobile) and has an HTC ROM installed as well as various other apps (Ms. Pacman, TomTom 6, SuperDoku, etc.). I had some issues with it locking up yesterday (similar to what I'm experiencing now but to a much, much lesser degree) when I was playing around with it but those issues somehow corrected themselves.
This morning I installed the Tilt keyboard fix that TaurusBullba posted on here back in June to fix some mapping issues. Since I installed and soft reseted, everything has been going kinda haywire. The Wi-Fi turned itself off and I can't turn it back on. When I slide out the keyboard the orientation stays in portrait mode. When I try to shut down the phone using the power button it hangs forever. Now, actually, half the time I press the power button nothing happens at all.
I've tried uninstalling the CAB but that didn't fix anything at all. I'm afraid to try a hard reset because, from my understanding, I'm going to lose everything that came pre-installed on my phone for me. I should probably also add that last night I installed the Google Maps CAB with no problems whatsoever. Is there some simple solution I'm overlooking? Thanks much!
I would advise that if you have tried soft resets to try and resolve the issues and it hasn't worked, then perhaps a hard reset?
It sounds as if the software you have installed as either caused the problems or exacberated them (ie made them worse).
With hard reset it wipes everything back to when you got it. If you are able I would suggest that you plug it into the computer and make sure ActiveSync backups up your contents. You may also want to use this get all the files on the main memory either to the storage card or to you're PC.
As this is yo're first post I don't know how au fait you are with the above that I have mentioned
The preloaded apps will be reloaded again. You won't have an empty ROM if you do a hard reset. It will be as if you just flashed the ROM again.
Thanks for the replies guys. I went ahead and did a hard reset and it looks like the only thing I lost (or at least the only thing I miss) was TomTom. I've already reinstalled that using a link I found on here, and everything seems to be good to go.
I still have no idea what might have caused the problems though, so I'm afraid that they might come back or I might repeat some dumb mistake I made. I guess I'll just have to live with that for now.
clear storage / hard resets no big deal, just expect to do it every other week while you're finding all the cabs that work (or dont work) for you..
I generally clear storaged every week when i first got my tilt until I found all the app's I liked that didn't have side effects
Hi guys
I did a mistake and I increased the cash size of my Diamond too much. So, when I turn it on, it gets stuck at the green "windows page" (FLO3D does not start). So is there any "safe mode" so I can fix the registry without flashing the whole thing?
I have installed SBSH iLauncher and selected "always" safe mode prompt whenever soft boot. So far each time safe mode function well until I installed Microsoft Reader v2.4.1 few days ago. The device cannot boot up and finally display a screen saying something like I might have shut down the device wrongly or installed some software not compatible. I am forced to hard reset the device and installed everything again. The Monocube Safe Mode v2.x still cannot work in WM6.1 device. Same thing happen to Spb Pocket Plus since it is using the same Safe Mode. I am afraid there is only SBSH iLauncher offers safe mode, but it still cannot prevent my device from poor installation. Perhaps it might help not to load certain Today Plugin only when the safe mode prompt. For some scenario the device just cannot boot up the safe mode and there is no other alternative but to hard reset.
What do you mean by safemode????
There is no safemode in WM6. Hard reset and do it right the next time.
Cheers!

SBSH´s iLauncher as well as SPB´s PocketPlus DO provide an option for a safe mode on the WM platform......they do this by not loading today plug-ins and other certain modules, that can mess up your OS....
I think, there´s even a very good article about it in the WIKI of this forum. However, SPB´s products are still NOT oficially supporting WM6.1......

That said, I can confirm that the safe-mode function of SPB Pocket Plus does work fine on the Diamond.
To the OP, as discussed there are safe-mode programs available, however they require installing before you need them...

Although, as posted above, there is a way....
More interesting though, is what do you do when you've f*cked your device to the point it won't boot up, and you don't already have those programs installed? A way to edit the registry offline while the device is bricked would be nice... Like the PSP has the battery hack, a similar thing here would be nice. After all, the Diamond didn't come free, in fact there are quite pricey $$$, and there are many other things I would prefer to use as a paperweight before the Diamond.
I wonder if the ROM update software could be modified to allow editing the registry? I don't know enough about the way in which it functions internally, but someone here surely does. If it could, you could obviously reverse harmful changes and save yourself from hard-resetting and losing all those settings you took days to complete to perfection... Then you could relax a little more.. IF the IPL and SPL are working then you should be able to do anything within reason, am I right?

Yea, see what you are saying. A kinda off-line regedit would be nice.
Well the future will tell. then again... its not that big hustle to reinstall your pda/diamond/whatever.... so im not that bothered.

You don't seem to have read the sticky thread on reading the available information before asking / stating something... I've published several articles on Safe Mode. The Wiki even has a dedicated category at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Systems programs, Safe Mode booting etc on safe mode apps...

i also got stuck on the boot screen after a faulty aplication.
but after removing the sim , it went ok and i could uninstall the aplication.
worth the try
yep, recommend hard reset. spb pocket plus safemode works fine on touch pro
I have installed this piece of crap on my HTC Diamond (Blackberry connect WM6 pro 4.0.0.90) and now its stuck on boot screen (HTC logo). Is there ANY WAY to make htc working without hard reset?
Or,is there any way to save my personal data (contacts, photos, etc)and after that to do hard reset?
safe Mode for windows mobile
There is a way to restart in safe mode. You have to install SPB Pocket Plus for that.
I tried to uninstall the mobilematt Fuzeberry v6.0 and my phone wouldnt uninstall it. Then it in the during the uninstall, my phone messed up and wouldnt do anything. So I had to take the battery out to turn it off.
Now it wont turn on. It just freezes at the Windows Mobile 6 screen.
Any Help. Please. Soon.
I dont know what to do at all.
I think a Hard Reset would be your best option at this point...
Sorry.

Agreed. Your device WILL delete the theme but it takes an excruciatingly long time to do so. Backup, Hard Reset, Fuggetaboudit.
How can he backup if the device doesn't boot? ActiveSync won't work until WinMo booted, as far as I know...
D'oh! Sorry. Yeah, I flubbed.
Just Hard Reset and you should be fine.
Wait, wait... how long have you let it set before you determined that it is "frozen"? I recall that after the first time I tried to uninstall it took a LONG time so I just did a soft reset. When it booted back up, it hung for a little bit (some minutes) but I just let it do its thing and came back to it and it booted fine. Fuzeberry was still present so I performed a Hard Reset.
Hope this helps!
did you remember to disable tf3d when you went to uninstall fuzeberry?
i 3rd that.... hard reset is the ONLY option. If u havent backed up the device prior to this, let it be a lesson learned. sorry bout that.

Me or highrise511? Quotes help.
If it was directed towards me - then yes.
Him - dunno.
Suddenly my Sprint HTC Touch Diamond is running extremely slow. TouchFlo 3D will not start. Various things runs extremely slowly like tapping on the start menu takes like 20-30 seconds to come up.
Rebooted several times. Turned off TouchFlo. Phone's still as slow as molasses?
What to do? Flash the ROM? If so, which I'd hate to do, where do I get the original Sprint based ROM?
Update: For some reason \Windows\manilla.exe never gets run. If I run it by hand then Touch Flo comes up. But it's still kinda slow.
Who/What starts manilla.exe?
Simply do a hard reset, this will reset everything back to original rom as in a factory reset.

That would be wonderful if I didn't customize things. But I have - heavily. And I'll need to reinstall all my apps. I was hoping not to do that...

But this is the most likely reason it is running slowly... Needs a hard reset and start again - and be judicious with what you re-install.
Before doing a hard reset, have you tried a soft reset??
A soft reset for heavy users is almost required dally in some cases to release the memory from being attached to programs and the OS which is consider to be called "Memory Leaks." A typical problem for all 6.1 Roms.
This slow and sometimes unresponsive behaviour was what also experience as well. There are programs that help memory find it's home but sometimes a good old fashion soft reset is what's needed.
Last thing: Make sure that when you have flashed a new ROM to ALWAYS do a HARD RESET immediately. Not sure if you followed that procedure in your last flash. IF not, I'm afraid a soft reset might not be sufficient to remedy this issue for you.

This is exactly what I was trying to avoid. A computer doesn't suddenly go from running OK to dog slow when you have not changed anything (I only rebooted/soft reset). The running of manilla.exe doesn't suddenly disappear.
Everything I install I install for a reason.

Daily! If not hourly. WinMo is not known for being stable.

I'm well versed in what memory leaks are. 'Round here we call them bugs. Being in the business for some 30 years now I can tell you that having to reboot an OS periodically is a sign of an extremely buggy OS. Unfortunately that's what WinMo is.

There's a big difference between being slow and being suddenly SLOOOOOOOOOWWWWW.

I've yet to flash this phone. I was hoping to avoid it. There are so many ROMs to choose from, some better than others. And I'm not looking forward to having to reapply all my customizations...
i get a problem like this occasionally after a restart. I need to hit the green dial key to get it to ask my PIN. after i enter my pin everything is back to normal.
just an idea
sprite backup
What you should do is when you hard-reset the phone and you have installed all your must-have apps (and the phone still runs smoothly) use Sprite Backup to make an image. This way when things go bad again, just restore the Sprite image to that wonderful time when everything still worked smoothly and you won't have to install all the apps again. Only the apps you installed after the image ofcourse... depends how often you backup
Works like a charm.
Be careful though, when you flash another rom, you CAN'T use the Sprite image anymore!! You have to make a new image then.
Hope this helps.
hey guys, not sure whats going on, but my tilt lately keeps freezing, but it only freezes when i go into landscape mode. i've ran the same programs for a long time (palringo, google maps, live search, kaiser tweak and srs wow) i'm not even running skyfire anymore, and i've uninstalled my opera browser but it keeps freeze. i've done some reflashes and hardware resets, and only ran the above programs, and it still ends up freezing when i put it into landscape. Anyone know what could be causing this? it doesn't matter if im typing landscape in notes, palringo, PIE or anything else, always freezes. The ironic thing is that if i bust out my stylus and type w/ that using the soft keyboard it seems to run just fine (but slows me down A LOT). any help would be much appreciated.
Do you mean your hardware keyboard lags?
If so in software is a speedup keyboard .cab.

no its not a keyboard lag by any means, the phone literally freezes. i dont even have to type when its in lanscape mode for it to freeze, as soon as the screen changes orientation it freezes immediately

Thanks for clarification, just that you say soon as use onscreen keyboard no issue, are you using a stock ROM? Does it happen on a clean flash no programs installed?

sorry, i should have given a lot more info, but i had to jet to class. Anyways, its not the stock rom, i'm running NATF's Lite rom (no TF3D). I actually downloaded originally around september/nov/dec of 08 (dont remember, but its been months that i've been running it). And never had a problem with it...now all of a sudden it seriously craps out everytime i run it. I tried running Hyperdragons IV Lite and i was experiencing some of the same problems. I'm really starting to think its one of the problems i'm running, so i'm going to to a hard reset (again) and see if it runs just palringo, and google maps w/out any problems. its just getting super frustrating to be honest. i'm running the exact same programs that i've ran for the last year, but now its deciding to act up. hopefully its something in the software and not hardware
ok...so i got home, and installed the OEM att tilt rom. really, no matter what program i install, pretty much anything. the freezing occurs. any out there familiar w/ cell phone hardware? i'm thinking that might be the cause, if so...do you think there's anything that can be done/replaced to fix it?
Hi, this started happening to my just today also! At first I thought it was the onscreen keyboard that made my phone freeze (as I have seen others with the same issue) and thought I could fix it by using another keyboard app. I used SPB's keyboard and it prevents my phone from freezing and I'm able to type things using it. BUT my phone STILL freezes when I put it in landscape mode and try to type something. It freezes after typing a couple of letters. This is stock ROM; I've never flashed it.
Is there a .dll I can use to repair or anything of the sort?
Btw, I'm using a Tilt. Thanks!
anyone have any method ..to prevent this problem???
I find that if restart the phone few times will freeze at gray screen .."the original HTC gray blank screen with loading box in the middle" but the antenna reception green light is normal blinking (all the button not functioning).... -solution have to press reset button below ...
so now everytime install new program very scare to restart .. if un lucky ..will stuck at that screen.... really wonder why ...is it the WM6.1 not stable???
I use motorola linux ..no such problem...

Try the relevant ROM thread also look at your hardSPL version. Some users have fewer freezing probs just by updating hardSPL.

Not at all, there's definitely something wrong with your setup if it wont even boot fully. Maybe a hard reset and some testing between installing each individual program will weed out the culprit. That said I've found (at least the HTC official) WM 6.0 ROMs to be much more reliable and stable than WM 6.1 ROMs.

Not as such - hardSPL is made by dedicated folks who have customised the OEM version but installing it will mean you no longer have an 'official' setup. That said, you can always revert to the official HTC SPL if needed for eg a warranty return. You could also install a newer HTC SPL for your ROM (as long as it's compatible *be careful about this* - eg I'm using the 1.93 HTC SPL with my ROM instead of the 1.56 SPL). This is all explained in the Kaiser wiki (through the xda-wiki button above) so it's well worth having a good read there
aaaahh I looked around. and I can't find a driver to reinstall for the hardware keyboard... I'm assuming this would fix it~
Sorry to double post but I just wanted to say I fixed the problem by backing up and restoring with SKTools after doing a hard reset. It makes me think, what exactly caused the problem in the first place if doing this fixes it? Is there anything that SKTools leaves behind in an All System backup? Perhaps something messed with my registry causing the keyboard to freeze the phone when used.
I'd hate to think my phone can actually get spyware now. Maybe Skyfire's true desktop viewing of webpages allows for this to happen?
Let me know what you guys think

If I will you to avoid ...uninstall this soft keyboard ... use back the original keyboard at the time being and see... if u restore back what is the diff compare to now ... If I not wrong still the same ...
FYI, I got this freezing problem is after I have install PCM kb 0.14 ...then I try install & uninstall & install ..and need to restart the phone ..2 out of 4 time is freeze at loading screen .. now really worry is it b'cos I uninstall it at the same time have remove certain original files .....
WM is diff with windows ...lack of tool to chk which system files damage .... I really hate hard reset ..just like computer... imagine keep format the hard disk ....

If only restoring a full size PC was as easy and quick as hard restting. Sure there's a little work involved in reinstalling apps after completing the hard reset but if the apps are well designed ones that install via activesync, that's as easy as going to Activesyncs add and remove programs function and ticking a box. If this is not available then maybe the old app is the cause of the problem?
A hard reset every now and again is very useful for maintaining peak performance and it certainly weeds out whether a problem is hardware or software related pretty quickly.
