Restoring to stock Rom from 5. 0. 8 - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was very excited to get an ota update on ky nexus one since a lot of people have been getting the latest froyo build that Google released. So I go ahead and nandbackup, restore to my stock Rom via recovery. Once restored I tried turning on my WiFi to get an update faster, but when I click on the WiFi button it says in the bottom of the screen that it is unable to activate WiFi.
Any help? Really want froyo.

How can I upgrade to the latest 2.2?

My story is sort of a strange one.
I originally unlocked my N1 and installed a 2.1 custom rom on it. Then Paul released his 1 ZIP to flash upgrade to F50. I got that and all hints of my custom rom seem to have disappeared. However I'm not sure if I will get OTA updates now, or if I can simply flash the new ZIP to give me the latest froyo because of this custom ROM that I can't remember its name.
I would go back to stock roms and everything but I don't want to lose all my data and apps, plus I don't know how!
So your saying you flashed the froyo update and your Rom is gone?
If that's what you meant... than that is what is supposed to happen.... you lose root when you flash that update.... but Cyanogen made a quick fix for that

Brand new nexus one owner!

Hi. I have what seems like a rooted nexus one and I've been getting notifications for 2.2.1 update but keeps aborting when I attempt to. I don't care so much about this upgrade as I'm waiting for the gingerbread but would this problem also continue when gingerbread OTA appears?

Yes. If you want to receive OTA - you need to restore to stock recovery.
I barely got my N1 yesterday I didn't feel like been stuck in a 2 year plan for the nexus s I didn't think it was worth it. Any how Any tips on what should I do to my Nexus 1? is it worth rooting it and also I been looking for a carbon fiber case but can't find one
Options
If you update to a more recent version of custom ROM they have edited it to prevent the OTA notifications. If you can live with it for now then just update to a custom Gingerbread ROM you will be good to go. Otherwise I agree you have to restore to stock recovery.

thanks. How do I restore to stock recovery?
I wouldn't normally disagree with Jack, but if you have a stock ROM, I would say that if you can look in your cache folder on the phone and find the update zip. Move the update to SD, and then flash through your custom recovery.
Depending on which recovery you have you may have to toggle signature verification...

Thanks danger-rat. I am very new to the smart phone world and to be quite honest with you not very savy when comes to tech related stuff. I came across this phone from craigslist which apparently is a dev edition phone and the only thing I know regarding this phone is build number frf91 kernel 2.6.32.9-27227-g3c98b0d android [email protected]#1.
The only thing I want to do is able to upgrade my phone OTA when it comes available.
Please provide detailed explanation if you don't mind as to how to do just that.
Thanks in advance
Lots of reading to do before you decide on anything.

After researching, I believe my nexus is actually not rooted because I don't see any padlock when rebooting my phone so I'm wandering why when I do get the notification for update 2.2.1 it keeps aborting.....?
Padlock denotes an unlocked bootloader, which doesn't mean you are our aren't rooted, it just means you have more options to install your OS.
Rooting can be checked by opening terminal emulator apps, and typing "su" - if the prompt changes from $ to #, then you're rooted(i.e. You have root access to the file system).
Update requires stock recovery to update automatically, but you can install manually with a custom recovery.
If you really want just stock, the easiest way is to follow the unroot/restore guide in the wiki, but you will lose your data and settings...

If you want to keep your data, I can post other options...

Thanks. I'll try it.

Quick information needed

I'm waiting for a replacement on my bricked Vibrant and I am running my G1 right now. I figured I would update the rom since I'm going to be using it for a little while. Now I am running CM 4.2 and the last time I flashed this on here I had like 20 steps to do and needed a pc. Now with the use of clockwork recovery and everything else available I'm assuming I can get away with flashing away from home and the use of a pc. I notice some newer roms with custom kernals available which is what I'm aiming for but I am not sure if I should grab the latest available CM or if other devs roms are more updated. Will I need anything else other than CWR since I'm already rooted? What are the steps I need to take to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance

you should be able to just get cm 6.1 and its gapps then do a full wipe of your phone and then flash cm6.1 then the gapps and you should be set from there
What's gapps? Do I use cwr for wipe and flash?

I see some roms have "requirements" as that frozo rom has requirements for SPL, radio and ext4 partion. I'm pretty sure all this is out dated on this unit and I don't think I'm on ext4 partion I don't remember converting any data when I flashed cm 4.2

[Q] Speedmod + Stock Froyo, updating to Gingerbread

Hello guys.
Official Gingerbread is finally available on Portugal.
I have currently Stock Froyo + Speedmod installed on my Galaxy S, so how can i update to Gingerbread?
Can i just update and Speedmod will still work?
Or should i install a stock kernel, then update, then install the Speedmod (Gingerbread version)?
Or i shouldn't update at all?
i'm interested in this too,i'm in the same situation (froyo+speedmod) and i'm quite a noob
is there someone who can patiently give us an hint about that? also about a good battery life gingerbread rom?
This is what I did.
1. Disable any lagfix - convert back to rfs (very important).
2. Back up all apps, contacts, data, photos etc from internal memory. Use something like Titanium backup or Mybackup pro.
3. Update through Kies for an official update.
4. Install latest Speedmod kernel for gingerbread (not Froyo version). Use odin.
5. Install superuser from clockwork mod recovery.
6. From recovery, do a factory data reset (make sure you have everything backed up first!)
7. Restore previously backed up apps, data etc, sync with google calendar.
8. Redo lagfix from recovery (convert to ext4).
Battery life at first seemed all over the place but has now settled down and is similar to Froyo/speedmod.
The phone is smoother and faster to use.
Thank you a lot!
That's exactly what i'm going to do!
thanks colin! 1 thing: i read somewhere that if you deleted some bloat app from operator (e.g. o2) you wont be able to update from kies anymore. is that true?
my phone it's not a locked one but anyway i think i always got o2 apps on it (which i unfortunately uninstalled instead of freezing it) and carrier-related updates.
am i going to have any kind of prob in the process?

If Kies is showing that there is an update available then I think you should be ok.
If not then it is a case of flashing the whole firmware with odin. Open phone dialer and enter *#1234# and you will see the firmware details you are on now. It is worth making a note of these so you can reflash your current firmware if there is a problem.
okidoki i'll try that!
update:
PDA:I9000AOJP5
PHONE:I9000AOJP3
CSC:I9000VIAJP3
pretty old looks like o2 release. being my phone unlocked i never understood why i got o2 releases on it
so when i am not able to upgrade by kies i should reflash stock thru odin.
what parameter (pda/phone/csc) i have to look at to get the right firmware?
Everything is working better than ever, except for one little thing: The GPS.
Today i turned on GPS and tried to use my navigation software (CoPilot) and the GPS signal just didn't fix at all!
I ended by not using it, but i don't know why it doesn't work. It always worked wonderfully well before this update...

Still try kies first. If no luck there is a lot of info in this thread.

Make sure you can get into recovery mode first. Power button, volume up and home pressed all at once. Let go home button when Samsung logo appears.
ok thanks for the infos! i'll do it all when i can have a bit of relax,i am relocating so i need a working phone during these days
so i did it then!
flashed darky's resurrection 10.2 and then updated to doctorz rom jvt leaving ext4 enabled with no probs: another phone
just needs a good theme now..

phone won't get GB OTA when reset to factory settings (multiple tries)

Hi yall.
I said id return to my nexy and reset it and all. So i followed this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850 here as i have done in the past in case a custom ROM went lolz.
Doing the same procedure now, it fails to get the OTA update to GB from Google's servers.
What am i forgetting?
Thanks yall
Hai,
I read it some where. To get OTA, go to Manage Applications>All>Google Services Framework> Clear Data and Force Stop.
Now check for update
i know what you mean, but it does not appear at all on my 2.1 stock nexus. i tried deleting data from Gtalk and such but with no success
Why not just use the PASSIMG method? You could go directly to a Gingerbread one. Our if you don't want to bump your main version, just manually apply the OTA update(s) using the official update zip(s).
Sent from my Nexus One using xda app-developers app
thanks guys. i actually used the PASSIMG to 2.2 and from there it update smoothly to 2.3.6!
i guess im back to flashng custom roms as i ve been tinkering with my newer EVO 3d GSM
