This is just quiet all the noise in these forums about updating and how some people have been able to update from FRF72 with no problem.. I downloaded the Leak FRF50 -> FRF83 update and tried it out my self, The rest of what happened can be explained in this video i just scrapped up:
I was able to update from FRF72 to FRF83 without any problems. Was using Paul's FRF72 rooted.
you can update from FRF72 but not with that file you need the android client file.

I put FRF72 on my phone last week buy downloading the file renaming it update.zip, putting the file on my micro SD. I forget the rest of the instructions but my question is will I still get the OTA update for the final build of FROYO FRF83? And If not how can I get the Final build and install it having FRF72 currently on my Nexus One?
What about the search function?

i am noticing bugs in FRF83. should i try this FRF85B on stock unrooted tmobile? i havent seen much info on it but filesize is bigger then most. can i install FRF85B from FRF83?
i also see in this forum there is a FRF85. what is the difference between FRF85 and FRF85B
There is no FRF85, only FRF85B
Might as well update, Google did it for a reason... Speaking of reasons, the reason that the update.zip for FRF85B is so big is that it covers about 6 builds, there is a tiny FRF83 => FRF85B update.zip kicking about as well.

EDIT: i tried that FRF85 (was posted as 85 not 85B) and that worked and says in about settings FRF85B. guess site misspelled
'Tis here: http://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-FRF85B-from-FRF83.f62ffd2b.zip
Im running frf83 on my rooted nexus one, i have found a few versions of frf85b and frf91, flashing them comes up successful but when i restart, settings says im still at frf83.
Ive heard that you can now unlock without affecting the bootlocker, so am i getting the wrong files? If so can anyone point me in the right direction? (im not an advanced user but im not too bad)
Please help thanks
PS i tried to post links of the files i have but wasnt allowed. they were both from htcpedia. com.
I'm also looking for a usable+deodexed FRF83-FRF91 update.zip.
This is the official download but I cant apply it because of the custom recovery, and all the files have a ".p" suffix (patch files)
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-FRF91-from-FRF83.4bf74f06.zip
If nobody responds I will go back to the stock recovery and try again.
I'm averaging 3 reboots/hangs a day on FRF83...
i have the same issue... i cant update from frf83 that is installed. i am getting OTA updates and nitifications but adter reboot its frf83 again, i too have a custom revovery and i dont know how to go back to stock
Any luck with solving this?
Have you tried this perhaps?

I simply backed up and did a clean kang-o-rama install
Looking for a definitive answer on FRF85B to FRF91, carrying Root!
i am on FRF85B (rooted)
I read this instructions,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7075094&postcount=379
But as I am new to these things, how do i do the following:
"*Installed the FRF91 package from ......
*Without rebooting, installed the root package"
How do I install the FRF91 package? I am AmonRa recovery it wont allow me to install it.
Where ya from?
What i did was installing stock 2.1 from HERE and then just let it update naturally OTA update itself to 2.2. After that just apply root from HERE Just fastboot Amon-Ra again.
Anyways, Lox update didn't work for me either.
The top option requires stock recovery, not Amon-Ra.
At the time it was released, european Nexuses couldn't load several updates that popped up. Don't know if Lox updated the link'
If i was you i would just flash Geo411m's ROM, pretty much stock with ChrometoPhone thrown in. If you don't need it just remove it with adb.
To me the batterylife was a bit better with that and best of all, it has black status bar.

Thanks, I will be going with Geo411m's blackstatus too!
Hi all,
I have rooted n1 with FRF50 and spent this day trying to update it to FRF91.
First, the normal update doesn't work (because I have modified recovery mode probably, not sure) returning some errors with signatures.
So I tried to find a rooted update from FRF50 to FRF91. First I found FRF50 to FRF83 which worked well, but could not find any update from FRF83 to FRF91 (only FRF85B to FRF91, but no FRF83 to FRF85B).
Then, I found such update but it made my phone not work (ddms reported problems with a2sd and then some exception in sh).
I reverted it now to FRF50 and applied FRF50-FRF91 that I found. This update worked, but my Build Number according to Settings is still FRF50 so it probably did not apply.
*) the link where I found FRF50-FRF91 - http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-android-2-2-froyo-frf91-on-nexus-one/
Any help with direct or indirect updates between FRF50 and FRF91 on rooted phone? (I can get it to FRF83, but not beyond). Thanks
Just looking through the first page would answer you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735871
emm.. the thread you linked just points at another thread in General section that is supposed to list "all available update.zip" - can't find such thread there, but the one I did find lists updates till FRF83 (and that's what I described above).
What I'm asking for here is the update from FRF50 to FRF91 and I cannot find one.
I guess I should repeat word by word, and this time in caps:
YOU HAVE CUSTOM RECOVERY, NO GOOGLE UPDATE WILL WORK ON IT, YOU NEED CUSTOM UPDATE FOR CUSTOM RECOVERY, OR YOU NEED TO FLASH STOCK RECOVERY BACK.
And I guess the following thread was too hard to find, only on 4th page of General forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712983
The rest of instructions are in the first linked thread, excuse me for not copy-pasting them.
Laziness is a sin
Well, you did not have to help me with the part on why I cannot use the stock update
I just needed help with rooted FRF50 -> FRF91 and the link you gave (the Update.zip to flash with custom recovery) works great!
Thanks for help and sorry for upsetting you all
