Okay so the new Froyo Roms are coming out. Im running the first Froyo Rom to come out so im stuck on the 50 version.
Anyway, i want a clean (not themed) rooted with superuser/busybox etc and able to use the old AP2SD method (ext3)
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Okay so I just bought this N1 off of someone off on Craigslis. It is rooted with a custom Rom. Now my problem is that I just got OTA notification to update to 2.2, but the phone already has 2.2 . I am afraid to do the update because I don't know what will happen if I do. And yes I am pretty much a noob on the whole rooting process and installing roms, so any help will be appreciated.

I have the samsung captivate at 2.1 and it is rooted and has sideloading enabled where I can install non-market apps from my usb card. I want to update to Froyo 2.2. I have been reading but getting different answers about rooting and sideloading Froto 2.2 original leak. Also I have backed up my phone.
1.Can Froyo 2.2 original leak be rooted and sideloaded with this file?(superoneclickv1.5.4)
2.Is this the file for the original Froyo 2.2?(I897UCJI6-OCD-REV02-Low-designgears)
I want to say this is my first android phone and these things are nice. I used to only use windows mobile phones, but now...... hello android.
I would like to say thank you to all the people for the guides and help that make it possible for me to play with this fun phone.

To be honest, I think the latest cognition ROM is way better than the leaked froyo. Faster, smoother, just better. And cognition of course has sideloading enabled.
Coginition question?
I read a little about the coginition roms. They seem really nice but could you answer a few questions.
1.Can you start out with the lastest rom first?
2.I read that it is really hard to go back to your original flash enev if you have a backup.(I did make a backup.)
3.I am not being a smartass but, could you please answer my first questions in my first post please.
Thank you for replying so fast.

If you update to the latest Cognition roms, you wouln't even have to root and enable side-loading.Everything is already built in.

Yes that is the leaked JI6 Froyo firmware, and is also one click odin.
Thank you
Thank you for answering my question.
If i was you I would leave 2.1 and add side loading, lagfix remove blootware and you got a pretty good set up, I have flashed most of the Roms here and I wont say with one is the best becouse each one has it flaws and I think just the leaked Frito has the most bugs tho design gears is basing his cog on it so he fixes stuff as he goes

Thank you for your reply. Which lagfix would you recommend?
Hi everyone.
I'm sort of a beginner in this but still already flash some phones (g2, gravity, cliq, ...)
The hardest part for me now is to update this G1 that I have. It's a 32b devices
I've rooted, installed a new radio, dangerspl, spl-signed everything was a little bit confusing there for a while.
I've got Cyanogenmod 6 running on it. But I find it slow not so "stable" (it's working just feels very lagy with some fc). I'm guessing there's something missing.
What do you guys recommend for me to do so I can get a faster, updated rom on that phone?
Need some with at least android 2.1 on it
what partitions on sdcard? ext2 or ext3? pls advice
& have some patience with my request

Are you using setcpu to overlock your phone? If you're running a cyanogen rom or cyanogen based rom the overclock kernel is included, you just need setcpu from the market, or you can get it for free here on xda. It will allow you to overclock. If you are already overclocking, and you need a 2.1+ rom, I suppose you could try SuperE or SuperFly, they are fairly fast.

Personally I'd steer clear of Cyan roms until your more comfortable with setting things up, personally I don't use cyans but thats my choice.
I'd go with either EZterry's asop or the new enom 'official' that is out and has a few more configurable options. All the fun of the fair without the bloatware cm roms have and will ease you into the world of flashing
Relevant post, Gottijr, and thanks for responders. I got a G1 (with DMD64, 1.6 official tmob US latest upgrade) from fleabay for my daughter recently. I'm an experienced Winmo ROM modder/uploader/tweaker for years, but after many many hours of reading over the last few days I'm still a bit confused about what's really appropriate for this phone.
I've rooted so far, but can't seem to get a modified recovery image working ( likely due to dmd64 build?). Mainly curious what I should strive for in that I want primarily stability and app to SD since the internal memory is so limited. Not sure the Cyanogen mod is the right choice since I don't want daily use to require any tweaking. What would the experts recommend?
I don't want to hijack the thread here, but seems like a similar predicament.
Wipe?
With the newer CyanogenMod stuff I have found that wiping and reflashing the same ROM in recovery seems to help substantially on the FCs and lagginess.
I'm not sure why the full wipe / reflash works, but I suppose it has something to do with the inability to do a complete wipe. I haven't tried the new uber wipe that just came out, but I would be curious to see if that had better results as a starting point for a ROM install.
Also, I found I was happier on CyanogenMod with LauncherPlus over the included ADW Launcher. Though that was on the beta of 6.1 and I know the 6.1 stable has a newer version of ADW which might have addressed some of its annoyances.
I recommend setting up Titanium Backup for apps or using Droid Explorer to pull a backup of your ideal application environment. This will make swapping out ROMs quick for testing out what works for you.

For speed and stability its difficult to beat the SuperD 1.11 rom ....essentially a donut (1.6) rom stripped and then filled with 2.1 (eclair) goodness. Sweet.
Hi everyone!
I've been an android user since the G1 and have had many different devices since then(htc magic, sony ericsson xperia x10, lg eve-yuck, htc desire, etc) and I have now just jumped on board with the Galaxy Tab!!!
I'm totally stoked and very happy to be joining everyone here in samsung tablet land, and I just wanted a litttle helping hand to speed things up for me a bit
So basically, I have a GSM tab thru rogers that I have just rooted and installed clockworkmod recovery on. I decided to flash the MoDaCo custom rom on and play around for a bit with no problem. What I need some help with tho, is maybe a brief explaining of the differences between the very few roms available right now for our tabs.. overcome v1.2.3, MoDaCo, etc.
I know for example, when dealing with my desire, there are a bunch of roms all catering to diff needs/wants/etc and they have diff looks and features not to mention diff versions of android-2.1/2.2/2.3
Whats the deal with the galaxy tab? Any help is much appreciated. Opinions are all welcome.
(if 3.0 honeycomb was available I wouldn't be asking this right now lol)
THANKS EVERYONE AND I LOOK FORWARD TO KEEPING UP WITH THE TAB SCENE ALONG WITH YOU ALL!!!!!!
Hi!
i needed some help from you.As you said u have installed the clockworkmod recovery.I have been trying to do that from the past 2 days but im not able to.i have unrooted my samsung tab, and i have checked if the bootloader is locked and it is not.and i have installed the Rom Manager. But when i try to click "FLASH CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY" i get and error " error while downloading from server. Please make sure that you have a stable internet connection, and that your SD card is inserted and has free space!" Can you please help me with this?
Hey, sorry for the late reply..
I had a few problems starting out with rom manager as well.. You have probably figured it out already, but I would grab the overcome rom that has cwm attached already.. Super easy. Once you get it installed you can easily use rom manager to boot into cwm whenever you like..

Hey guys,
I am very new to all this stuff, but I have already had some experience with roms with my SGS2. Now my girlfriend got the "old" SGS from her father as a christmas present.
It is a Vodafone branded phone: I9000BUJP7 with 2.2 on it.
Since my girlfriend, of course, isn't very interested in all this stuff, I am just looking for a way to get her to 2.3.*
Is there any tutorial or is anybody outthere willing to give me a short step-by-step guide for getting her to 2.3.*?
It would be enough to get her to a original Samsung firmware with 2.3 on it. How can i manage that?
Thanks a lot for your help!

If she doesn't care, put 2.2.1 on her phone. It is the fastest and most stable. 2.3 doesn't have anything to offer her really and most have some bug or another.

It depends if there is anything on there that she wants backed up, like apps or text messages.
If she does you need to root the phone first, then install 'titanium backup' and 'sms backup and restore' to save the important stuff (with titanium backup open it then press the menu button, then go to 'batch' then choose to backup all you want)
If not you can just download an odin flashable rom, download odin, follow the instructions exactly as they are described and you should have no problems.
I would recommend having a look at darky's roms (he has his own darkyrom.com website) have a look at one of the roms in the stable section, 10.2.2 was a pretty good rom, with great battery life too (approx 3 days!)
Then you just have to put back titanium backup and sms backup and restore and restore the old stuff you want back onto the phone
Otherwise there is a new 2.3.6 rom JVZ just recently cam out, seems pretty stable and fast, but it's only been out for a week or so, so it's early days to know if it will stay stable or not.
Can I offer you some advice though.. put a good stable rom on her phone and then leave it alone, she will get annoyed if you keep taking her phone from her to put a new rom on there that's not quite stable yet, she will get angry with you - I speak from experience lol
