Process System is Not Responding - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know what causes this error on boot up?
Had it on 5.0.8 stable and the theme I'm running now.
Also had it on Super E.
Just curious... a search gave me nothing clear.

Surely I am not alone here?

Does it give the the force close and wait option? If so - I'm pretty sure everyone gets it. I've gotten it, and Dr Cloverdale said it was normal on one of his 2.1 ROMs.

so do u mean whenevr u boot up u get a force close right? that happens to me. i just force close it.

i just hit wait... its faster, lol.

wring thread

I get it every boot and just hit wait. Problem solved.

Yeah.. every boot and I usually press Wait.
I did NOT realize this was the case for everyone. Weird issue, especially considering I have not heard much about it. Very small issue, but a little annoying.

I didn't either but I assume it's a small quirk that comes with putting something like 2.1 on such an old device.

I have stock in this for 6 hours and either force to stop or wait gave me nothing. I'm still at the same place: I have the htc Evo 4G run omj's custom ROM please some help will be verry wellcome.

possible fix for "Process System is not Responding"
I may have figured out a way to get around this.... I had to flash an ealier version of CWM in ROM manager... once I did that I was able to restore my nandroids again hope this helps everyone

flipclock for 1.5 sense roms, now working!

UPDATE: seems to work fine for most people by just flashing, my phone had different problems.
it does work with this method when having trouble otherwise: wipe, fresh installation of mcr3.1/2, boot and do the setup, flash the clock. a wipe is not mandatory, it has proven to work without a wipe in many cases now. should work on all 1.5 sense roms.
in every case make a nandroid backup before! then flash the zipfile as usual from the recovery menu, no need to delete anything manually before.
who wonders what this is about, from 0:12 in this video. the flipclock was removed by htc in the 2.73 series roms, probably for performance reasons. since (especially) paul and teknologist have done a lot on the performance side it is worth a try IMHO. so far the feedback is good, ppl don't seem to notice an impact on the performance.

animations are always bad to capture in a screenshot. this is the regular 2x4 hero clock widget with the digits flipping over as animation, as it was in the 1.76.x roms. the animation was removed for performance reasons, but since a lot has changed performancewise i think it is worth a try.
i'll see if i can dig up a video. edit: there you go, about 13 seconds in.
just tested it and it works perfectly, and i have network connection

what rom are you using? do you experience any performance lags? do all apps work, i think i had problems with connectbot while the clock was installed?
and we still have to wait for long term results, i hope it doesn't drain the battery...
btw, it is still not working for me, dammit!
the latest Modaco rom 3.1, i wasn't getting any lag switching from screen to screen but i did go back to my back up cause it was abit annoying wait a few seconds to know what the time is, i didn't test all my apps lol all i did was surf the inter-web. All i did was to flash it as an update.zip and for me it worked perfectly

can confirm here that it is working correctly and have network connection on MCR 3.1. Hopefully battery won't drain over long term
Does this work with any of the more current 2.1 sense Roms? I assume not, but thought it was worth asking

i leave that as an exercise to the reader flashed enough today, going to bed now. nandroid is your friend. my bet: won't work. try wiping, flashing the rom, do the initial setup, then flash the clock. and keep us posted
Flashed, clock still displays, force closes when the flip should happen.

Confirming that it is also working on a rooted stock rom as well. Thanks for your efforts on this very much appriciated

this was taken from a gsm rom, so i wouldn't expect it to work in a cdma rom. i replied to a thread in the cdma section pointing them here, my guess would be that the procress has to be redone with cdma sources. i can't do this without having access to the running rom.

so i was right you could check logcat for errors, but tbh i don't think there is much that can be done, given the closed source nature of the sense framework.

ok, the easiest way to say this: the person who wants to try this needs to hold a cdma hero in his hands. the actual device, you can not do it with just the rom.

Can't get out of safe mode.

My phone is stuck in safe mode and I tried reflashing, battery pull etc && I cant get it out of safe mode, Really annoying,
Someone HELP ! Please
When you say safe mode what do you mean???? You will get a lot of help from here if you give a little more detail. As in what were you trying to do?? What rom were you trying to flash or kernel?? Are your rooted or were you trying to root??? What recovery were you using or trying to use etc.

^^ Safe mode is accessed by holding the MENU button while booting up. I've used it once when I modified the mms.apk, keyboard and a couple other things and was getting a ton of FC's - I needed to pull some info off of a couple texts phone before I wiped (since I never do nandroids )
A reboot is all that was needed to get out of it for me though...
[assuming you're rooted]
If you have any recent nandroids OP, wipe and then restore them. If you don't have any nands, flash a completely different rom.
EX) if running AOSP -> flash NFX sense.
If neither of those work run the RUU and re-root

You may actually have a hardware issue then. I would try pulling the battery and battery cover and letting the whole thing air out a bit, it may be something as simple as your menu button sticking. Once that's done, put the battery back in and try to boot up, if it boots, great, if not, perhaps run the sprint ruu and start over.

But it's coming sometime this week between Wed-Fri I'll roll out the first release then.

HELP With SetCPU Settings.......

Someone PLEASE give me some good proper settings for the SetCPU. I have VEGAn TAB Gingerbread Edition 7.0. Kernal Version says: 2.6.32.36-cyanogenmod [email protected] #1.
I know someone on here is using this...so let me know how to set this up using my G Tablet.
I want faster performance at the same time...extending battery life a little. Either way..nothing to make it overheat tho.
Let me even know the specs i posted will work with SetCPU. Thanks.
Performance and battery life are opposites. You have to underclock to get more battery life.
Oh.. and it's a kernel not kernal.
Sent from my GB Galaxy Tab using Tapatalk.
Typo in my spelling. But theres a middle where you can set to get a little of each. Anyway...anyone??????????
Not gonna happen. If you do anything to make it faster it increases power consumption, period. The On Demand governor, default, does the best job of letting you go 100% when you want and drop to a low freq when you are idle.

Ok..are you using this? Would you know any good settings for this GTab? I dont wanna do anything and overheat it or put the wrong settings and stuff. You know. Any bad side effects?
Edit: Dumb question but...if i use this plugged in alot...in my room..then all the power it uses would be for the good right? can't kill the battery then.
Edit 2: One more question..if there was something you didnt like about it...does just uninstalling it put your phone right back to how it was? Or a little more tweaking you need to do before you uninstall?

As I recall, running VEGan 7.0 I used SetCPU no higher than 1.2 w/interactive. No noticeable drag or heat. Perhsoot builds great kernels but I seem to recall using Blades or Clemsyn but could be wrong. Unless you find a way to clock so far out of parameters (voltage/speed) I seriously doubt you can irreparably fry your GTab. Using the wrong power adapter would be more likely to nuke a tab. IMO.
Using plugged in logically it's a wash as you use what you charge. I'm no expert in electronics. Others may have more input here.
I have always re-flashed ROMs to reset. That way you know you cover the custom kernel. Some have had success flashing only the kernel. YMMV.
Always proceed after a good backup!

Thanks alot for the reply. See...i don't flash or anything like that. Haven't took the time to learn it..when i know i need to.
I was hoping no kind of reflashing was involved. So your saying uninstalling it may not put things back like it was?
Also curious on this one..that "Set to Boot" thing..if you DON'T check that...does that mean whenever you reboot...it goes back to normal? And you have to open SetCPU again and again to set it up?
And of course checking it would mean it stays that way i guess. Just heard a few weird stories that you can't uninstall it. But even if i do..wanted to seriously know if everything will go back like it was. Thanks again.

Not a problem. We were all noobies at one time!
Flashing sounds like trouble but if/when done right it's simple. Trust me, you will one day laugh at remembering how anxious you were about it.
Check your other post. Doing a nandroid backup thru CWM will make a FULL BACKUP of everything on your GTab as it is right now. It's way simple to do really and can save your ass if something goes wrong.
Set To Boot means just what you think. If you leave it unchecked your GTab will revert to stock speed. Set To Boot means when your GTab reboots it goes back to overclock speed you set.

Yea..had a feeling thats what the BOOT part meant. Just wanna be sure. And the ROM manager thing..im getting ALOT of negative things about it working NOT good with the GTab. Even my thread on here has a few people saying that. My gut keeps telling me when i try this...something will go wrong...then ill thing " Why did i have to try this..there was nothing wrong with my Tablet before this". You know. That lil voice.
Thats true about how we are were the same at one time. I hate when certain people think they never were. Funny.
Are there teps to nandroid backup without that ROM Manager? I want the easiest way possible.
Plus...how can i tell which Bootloader i am...you know..they say its either 1.1 or 1.2. I bought mine already flashed. Cant get ahold of the dude to ask him.

OK. How to tell what bootloader you have....here.
Install CWM Guide here.
CWM is the only way I know of to do a complete nandroid backup. Installing CWM just for that makes it indispensable.
ROM Manager on the GTab is iffy at best. Works well on other tablet but not so much on GTab. I used it for informational purposes only.
I know that "little voice". We all have heard it. But having a full backup helps quiet it. I would not suggest you get to tweaking until you have a nandroid backup via CWM. That dreaded "something" will go wrong. It happens to most all on here who want to learn. Nothing like a soft bricked tablet to motivate one!
Just a suggestion. Before you get in too deep. Spend a week or so just reading the forum. Learn to use the Search function (It will save your butt many many times). Keep your threads condensed. (Two SetCPU threads can be confusing) and keep reading...
Oh, and relax. Pretty much whatever one does to a tablet can be fixed. I said "pretty much"! lol

So, to check which branch you are on if you are on STOCK: Go to Settings -- About Tablet -- Tapu UI Version.<<< I dont see that Tapu UI anywhere in my About Tablet. Hmmm. But i am running VEGAn TAB. I DO see Build Number: GRI40.
When in read how to check the bootloader thing..he did say something like ' If i have a lock screen..i must be on 1.2. I DO have a lockscreen. So 1.1 doesnt have any lock screen when the Tablet starts up????
But just a weird question...wouldnt i already have CWM if i have VEGAn TAB on here already?? I thought yes. I DO wanna speed this baby up a little bit. Doesnt have to be SUPER fast. Just a little faster startup and faster when i click apps or menu stuff. I want a Motorola Xoom soon. Wanna sell and trade up stuff for it.
I also wouldnt mind VEGA n TAB 7.1...i think they said the Camera works in that version for Skype and other stuff..not sure. Im a paranoid person with certain things in life. I guess this is one of em. Weird...im good with computers. Programs and stuff a little bit.
Guess i should just DL SetCPU and run it..just dont click set on BOOT.
Edit: WOW..those steps in how to install CWM is point on. Thats what i like...the DUMMY style step by step. Every word. You know..until we learn how to do it. Some people would explain..then say a certain word and ill be lost. That one was good. Thanks alot for the kind words and help. I really appreciate it.
Edit 2: I can put the zoip to CWM onto the internal SD of the GTab right? Even if theres alot of stuff already in it???
Edit 3: In the CWM folder i downloaded...i see the update.zip...zipped..and a folder that says Recovery. Strange..in the steps to install CWM...it says everything but it doesnt say what to do with this folder...even tho i think it should be in there no????

No. I used it on a different tab that I wanted to underclock to get battery life. The Galaxy tab is fast enough that I dont desire to overclock, so cpuset is useless to me.

Has anyone figured out the reboot problems?

I thought that by rooting and putting a new ROM on my phone that it'd help out my problems of it rebooting randomly and having a non responsive internet 50% of the time but it hasn't. Anyone else having these problems with their Thrills? About to go back to the iPhone even though i really don't want to
I have occasional reboots, but not often. I know mine is more tinkering with my kernel.
i only had mine reboot once only cuz i killed gta3 the rong way and it crashed
yeah mine does it any time that it has to think about something... i go to post something on facebook and about half the time it freezes and then reboots. I think i've pulled the battery out a couple dozen times this last week because of it just stopping on me

There is no wrong way to close an App/Game.
It's the developer of the app that causes the problem.
ok now i'm finally getting it to where it's saying different apps (mostly clockworkmod) are failing and to either force close or cancel...
Well I jumped out of gta3 with the home button and tryed to go in app manager to close it and probly ran out of ram and crashed instead of backing out of gta3 with the game menu

I just wish Android OS suspended everything when you push the home button and had push notifications instead of persistent checking. All this background running is killing our batteries and causing lockups.
Ya I know I wounding if you could put it in a rom or kernal

True multitasking has been built into Android (similar to Linux, which it is based) from day one. Here to say it, but that would be a longshot. Best bet would be to become more scrupulous on what apps you download and more critical of the makers when their programs go rogue. Plus turning background data off in settings can help. Fyi.
Note: I don't want you to feel as if I'm being overly critical or a douche here, just realistic with what we have and what we are dealing with.

I hear ya, I know its wishful thinking. I just wish android was as efficient as iOS. Android having Backgrounding from the start was a big perk, but I gotta hand to apple for seeing how inefficient it was and hold off until they found a better solution. Android needs to grab the bull by the horns and convert to that solution.

Background data allows you to receive emails and your apps to update periodically while your not using your phone. This is the basis of 99% of your notifications. It's kinda the point of having a smart phone in the first place.

Just got a random reboot.

I was in settings/storage, and tapped on apps. The phone lagged then opened the apps section. I tapped the back button and then the phone shut off and restarted. I am rooted, twrp recovery, but using the stock rom.
Has anyone else experienced this at all? Wondering if it is a widespread thing, or not.

Cool story bro
I've been getting way too many random reboots. Something as simple as turning off wifi or turning it back on will cause it. I'm not sure why it does it and I'm fully stock, unrooted. I've seen suggestions about clearing the cache and I've done that, but the problem continues. I'd say it does it on average once every couple of days.
Now that's a cool story, bro.

That stinks huh?! Unfortunately though if you wanted someone to truly help figure that out you'd want to have a Log of some sort

Have you tried just saving all your stuff and wiping the phone clean and starting fresh?

I've thought about wiping and starting over, but I'd rather find out that it's a known issue with a fix before I go through all of that work. It's not like I've been flashing ROMS and messing around with the radios or anything like that.

I didn't think about that until after I posted. I totally spaced on that.
I was more wanting to know if it was a widespread problem. I didn't word my post very well.

Hey it's all good! I wasn't scolding you or something.. I've been there myself. Hop on here and try to explain something that just happened with my phone and while I'm writing it... Think to myself... Guess a log would have helped lol
