Hebrew support - Droid Incredible Android Development

hey all,
so i have an Israeli wife and she wanted to be able to read the Hebrew font on her facebook and other apps.
we used to have the tmobile mytouch and at the time i had found a .zip file that i flashed and it gave us Hebrew support so i tried it on the incredible and it worked, so i thought i would share it with everyone.
i dont know who to give credit for this, and i dont remember where i got the .zip file.

Whats the procedure to install?
does it have to be rooted as far as you know?

afaik you need to be rooted,
1. move .zip folder to root of your sdcard
2. boot phone into recovery
3. apply .zip form sdcard
4. reboot phone and your done!
its possible that if you name it update.zip you can do it from the stock recovery but i did not try that and seem to remember reading somewhere that you needed to be rooted.

Could you please provide more details? Did you try this on an Incredible?
I booted into recovery mode, then selected the "apply sdcard:update.zip" option, but at the end, I keep getting "E:signature veriifcation failed" and "Installation aborted"

I have installed this on two incredibles and it worked fine for me, both were rooted and I was using the unrevoked recovery. I think what you are doing is making the phone look for a file named " update.Zip"
in unrevoked recovery there is another option to select which file you want to flash, you then select the Hebrew.Zip folder. Try that and let me know what happens.

Thanks again for the explanation. I am using the plain recovery mode, so I think that is my problem.
How did you install the unrevoked recovery tool? Hopefully this is something that I can do with the rooted phone without having to get back to the "start adb in recovery race condition". I barely made it the first time (with luck) and I don't think that I can hit the same luck again...

if you rooted the phone properly the first time and have the superuser app installed it is really easy, just download the unrevoked recovery flash tool and then run it on your pc, it will give you instructions to connect the phone with debugging mode, and then you will allow the superuser app permissions when it asks you and thats about it, should only take five min.

I have a problem I'm trying to use unrevoked flash tool and I get no farther then pushing recovery. I really need help I have rooted my and installed the proper drivers but can't get past pushing recovery please help.

Thanks for this....
Finally rooted and added this, nice little tweak, and an easy thing thing I can answer when someone says, what does rooting allow your phone to do?

You need to flash a kernel with clockwork mod recovery such as :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756
Flash with Odin and put the kernel in the PDA section. Once flashed you will have clockwork mod recovery. The reason you can't apply roms is because you have Recovery 3e which won't apply unsigned .zips.
When booted into clockwork mod just select apply .zip from sd card and choose the ROM you want to install and then reboot.
Simple really
I sure hope you have checked first if your 3-button combo works. Otherwise you soon will be figuring out how to unbrick your Galaxy....

Yep, forgot to mention this. VITAL thing that you must to first before messing with your Galaxy.
Please check that you can get into download mode before doing anything!
yeah the volume up, home and power works... thats what has been getting me into the boot menu...
Cheers for the answer, Ill try that now

[Q] Need help with ROM Manager

Ok so I'm new to flashing a ROM, and Im having a little problem with ROM Manager. Ive been trying to make a backup of my current ROM prior to flashing to a new ROM. However when I choose the option to backup current ROM it shows me the name of the backup and then reboots my device (Samsung Captivate) into recovery mode. Not really sure what it wants me to do there so I choose to reboot the device, I then check to see if it made the backup and nothing??? Im not sure what it is that Im doing wrong but Im sure I must be missing a step. The phone is rooted, running 2.2 other than that nothing else has been moded. If any of you can help me I would appreciate it, I just dont want to move forward with flashing a ROM before Ive backed up the current ROM. I have made a backup of all apps and data using Titanium.

When it goes into recovery, is it the ClockWorkMod recovery menu? Green text? If it isn't getting there you need to install it from ROM manager first or just install it off an update.zip file that is floating around XDA and other sites. Once that is setup, you can run the backup through ROM Manager. It should boot into a recovery mode and then start doing a lot of writing of files to your new backup directory.
Post back if you are still having problems.
I did select the option for flashing ClockWorkMod recovery and chose the Captivate as my device. It did say that it sucessfully downloaded the file and Im assuming that it meant it installed it. And to answer your question I think I can safely say that no its not clockwork recovery when it reboots as it does say at the top of the screen "Android Recovery" so Im pretty sure that ClockWork is not installed. But I will look for that update.zip file and try to install it that way...

I'm sorry, you are looking for recovery-update.zip. I would try to run the ROM Manager install again and see what happens. I haven't had to play with the Android Recovery in quite some time but if the recovery-update.zip file is in the root of your sd card, you should be able to install it through the Android recovery. I'll keep looking. If I can find the file on my phone, i'll post it. Good luck.
If this is your first time booting into CWM recovery it will go to the base recovery first. Then you need to "reinstall packages". That will replace the recovery file with the CWM recovery file and return to the main menu. Then choose reintall packages one more time and it should bring you to CWM recovery instead of the base one. From then on it should bring you directly to the CWM recovery.
As for the backup it's done from CWM recovery. So once you get thru the steps above you will see backup and restore options on the recovery menu and you can go thru that process.
There may be some help in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734163
First try to flash it again through ROM Manager.

That update.zip should have been placed there by ROM Manager. Possibly try uninstalling & reinstalling ROM manager. Else, that update.zip should be somewhere. I'd grab the one off my phone but I'm not entirely sure which one it is. My ROM already had CWM with it. I'll try to look for a correct update.zip but I'm at work so I'm not going through XDA all day.

I missed it too. The above post regarding 3e recovery is what you need to do, one of the phones I have I need to do the same process after flashing back to stock. Sorry for the confusion.
Been having a similar issue when it takes you to stock recovery, I hold down both volume buttons and power until I see AT&T let go of power it usually takes me to clockwork recovery menu, I then select whatever I want to do backup, recover, or install from sd.
I don't know why it started doing that but that's what I found works. Hope it helps.

Thanks
Because your phone does not have the vulnerable recovery installed. Look at the link I posted. It has everything you need to get up and running. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

The Milestone mentioned in ROM Manager / clockworkmod is probably the Alltel Milestone, which in reality is a droid 1.
Now that you have installed cwm, you have to remove it from your phone and then install Androidiani openrecovery. Before that you need to install vulnerable recovery from here using rsdlite.
Note that it may take more than one try to get cwm out of the system.

I actually had the same mistake as you before (using ROM Manager on our Milestone).
I recommend this:
1. Backup your SD card content
2. Reformat your SD (slow format)
3. Place the AOR 3.3 (Androidiani Open Recovery) files back in (use a fresh download if possible)
4. Perform Nandroid backup again
Note that there will be no "backup" content in your OR folder. Instead, you will see a new "nandroid" folder in your sd root.
Thanks dude. I find out the solution. I wipe all data + cache, then I download a fresh recoveries and then i did the backup again. It works well.

You should not use ROM Manager to do the backup or flash for Milestone. please use Open Recovery 3.3. Download it and please delete CWM folder also. Please wipe data/facotry reset for doing backup or flash. (IMPORTANT). It will work.

[Q] stuck at X

Ok, I'm a noob and I tried to root my phone. However, I messed it up and I'm not sure how.
I successfully unlocked the bootloader.
I then flashed the recovery with Amon_RA's image. All is still good.
I attempted to root installing from zip using this step "Use trackball -> "Flash zip from from sdcard" -> nexus-addon-0.1-signed.zip"
I then rebooted and now I'm stuck at X. It won't boot past that.
I can access the bootloader and all that other crap. I'm a noob so type slow and in small words to I can fix this. Until I see a reply, i'll play around with it to see if I can return the image to stock.

If you want to go back to stock search for passimg.zip or you can use any ROM you like.
my adb isn't recognizing my device. Fastboot is but not adb. This is why I can't push anything to the phone at the moment. This is getting frustrating.
take the sd card out and put the passimg.zip file on it
I did that and nothing happened. Is there something special I need to do in order for it to take?
It was working just fine until I installed the google addon zip described above from the sdcard. Is there any way to uninstall the addon from recovery?
The PASSIMG.zip method doesn't work for me. It briefly says it can't find image or something like that. It flashes on the screen very fast so I can't get the details. Any other suggestions for me to try? Like I said, I can boot to recovery just fine. I can even install from zip through recovery. I should have backed up that image before I started messing around with it. I'm learning as I go though.
Phew!!! Back in business with the passimg method. My mistake was adding another .zip when I renamed the file. so to the phone it looked like PASSIMG.zip.zip and wasn't recognizing it. Once I got that fixed it updated just fine. I'm booted now. I'll update then try and root once again.
Good to hear.

[Q] Strange Open Recovery Issue

Hey everybody,
I just got back my motorola milestone from my provider because it has the ghost hand issue.
Now my problem is the I flashed the GOT back and I tried the original Shols as well with vulnerable recovery and I have the following issue.
I press power and X together, the triangle comes up and when I choose install update.zip the installing is coming and it says install successful but I got the recovery menu back and not the open recovery.
Any ideas? I will re-flash the phone again as soon as I got home but still it's a strange and weird issue. I tried to use ClockWork mod as well, same thing happened.
Thanks in forward!

Not working....I get the verification failed error message, like I didn't flashed the vulnerable sbf.
SO I reflashed with the RTEU Shols and then the vulnerable flash the one that's working with the 90.78 bootloader
I tried to flash GOT, same error message, it feels like the RSD Tool is just simply wiping the phone but do not flash the OS on my phone.
I thought maybe that's the problem so I tried a different RTEU and that didn't even boot up my phone, so it's doing something...I try to reflash GOT again..if it is not gonna help me then I don't know what to do...I never had this issue before...Never...I'm not a noob, I used a lot of a different ROMs and finally I see we got 2nd boot working my phone doesn't reach the open recovery...loooolllll
HELP ME haha
Update: Tried it, didn't work...
It maybe the problem of that I have Windows 7 64bit on my laptop and it has some issues with RSD Lite before i re-installed the Windows...Force Flash and some other stuff...How can I check that I have GOT on my phone or the original shols? Should be somewhere at "About Phone" section.
Don't flash the OR with RSDLite!
Flashing installs it to the phone's internal memory.
Just copy&paste the 'OpenRecovery' folder and the 'update.zip' to the root of your sd-card.
