OK can anyone help?
Sprite Backup: Backed up email and Personal databases only
Hard Reset (No Rom change, Stock T-Mobile UK rom)
Restored email and Personal databases
Icon shows 17 unread emails and 2 unread SMS - Excellent - exactly as expected.
SMS's all there and correct
Try to access emails - No account set up - try to create account - "This account already exists"
OK, Hard Reset again
Create email account first
Restore emails from Sprite
SMS - OK & Correct
Emails - Showing 17 - but when opening - no account available, Create new account - and of course - "This account already exists".
Happy to loose the emails, but I want the SMS's
I don't want to lose the ability to access emails from the Today screen icon - it still shows 17 unread (unavailable) emails.
Any ideas ?
Are you backing up and restoring "System Data" and "Personal Databases"?
Try this
Copy the exe in the attached zip to your ppc and run it from your phone. It lists all the accounts that can be restored. I use it to restore my sms messages from a sprite backup whenever I change roms...

thanks! worked for me
Excellent - Perfect fix.
Many Thanks !
Someone should sticky this. I searched all over for a fix, I recently did a fresh ROM flash to fix a problem with my Voice Command and this happened to my email, the program worked perfectly! thanks!
I'm am running my Hero on CM7.0.2 (latest gapps) coming from RC4
The past week or so my gmail will sync properly. I can load and delete messages on my phone, but when I go to check my mail on my computer its as if I never read any messages or deleted any at all. I have tried using the force update in the gmail app but the problem still persists, I have also tried unchecking sync and rechecking it to no avail.
Is anyone having/had this problem, and what ways should I go about fixing this?
thanks in advance

I have had the same problem... I am on AOSP 2.3.3 3/26. I have had this problem on CM7 7.0
The past 2 days I've been seeing this as well. Saw it with 7.0 and since updating to 7.0.2. Gmail has also fc on me a couple times which I never have seen.
~maybe I set it too high...
There was a time when nandroiding would cause gmail sync to not work properly, delete wouldn't delete, send would get stuck in the outbox, the solution was to delete the gmail cache and data. Your accounts and sync settings are retained, but you just have to set up the gmail settings again.

I started having the same problem as the OP after a nandroid restore, this worked for me. Thanks!
I would have to delete gmail cache and data, as well as clearing dalvik cache for mine to start syncing. I have problems with it regularly after restoring a nandroid.
Same problem here, definitely due to nandroiding. Clearing cache and data fixes it.
Hey guys! I rooted my SGS i9000 and installed the latest stable Cyanogenmod to it (9.1.0) + the GoogleApps. Before flashing, I made a Titanium Backup for the SMS messages (among others). After flashing, I chose to restore the SMS data (not app) and ignored the message that there is a ROM incompatibility between my former 2.3.3 and the current 4.0.4. Of course, now my messaging app doesn't work (i.e. when I open it and try to see a message thread, it closes with "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped working").
I tried to clear the app's cache and force-close it, then to clear the app's data (not only cache) and reboot phone. Also I tried to delete the app's data from Titanium Backup's menu. None of these actions solved the problem.
I am not sure what could I do to make it work again. Should I flash CM again using CWM?

I had the same incompatibility with TB when upgrading to CM9.
Go Backup is very good for restoring Call logs/SMS/MMS.
I was on 2.3.6 (JW4) and after flashing CM9 I restored them using Go Backup, and I re-installed all the apps from the market.
I guess you can go back to Gingerbread using Odin, restore SMS data with TB, backup again with Go Backup and then upgrade to CM9.
And by the way you can install latest nightly (0916) as it contains 9.1.0 and some additional fixes.
Yes, that could be the way to go, but I am not that interested in restoring my old messages. In fact, I just want to be able to see/write messages from now on.
OK, a follow-up with what I did in order to fix my issue:
Titanium Backup -> wipe messaging data, wipe phone/messaging data, literally try wiping and force-closing the apps multiple times until it I got bored
fix permissions via Titanium Backup
reboot do CWM, fix permissions from there, too
When I rebooted the phone, the messaging app was doing fine (and no more messages where of course in the list). I tried to send an SMS and I could finally see the thread. I hope that the issue is fixed, although I am not completely sure which of my actions actually fixed it. If someone still has an answer to why did this happen, or a solution, please post it!
PS: paraphrasing another thread: "if you need to restore SMS data, use a dedicated app which stores them online, if you need call-logs or other system settings stored you shouldn't probably mess around with your ROM in the first place"
Good Info.. i also used titanium backup to restore, worked right away. But i couldnt send messages out.
So i installed GO SMS Pro and changed the SMSC Number to the Number my Provider Uses for SMS Messaging.
Would be interesting if sending SMS is working for you with standard Messager ?
for some people *#*#4636#*#* should work.. In the Telephone Information there is a Tab for SMSC Number that can be edited (didnt work for me though)

Well, the app was behaving quite strange. I tried to send an SMS message while it was having problems, and the message got through (i.e. the recipient received it), but the app was reporting an error. I tried sending the message for a couple of other times, but apparently it did not work.
After "fixing" the app, I sent a dummy message to one of my old numbers (the SIM card is somewhere around the house, so I did not check if the message really got delivered), and the app says everything is OK.
Oh, and "the app" is actually the default Messaging app of CM9.
This is really interesting.. well every phone has its own bugs i guess.
My messages didnt come through, so i had to change the SMSC Number with another app (Go SMS PRO) from the Store.
Good to hear everything worked out for you.
Best Regards
the first solution on the internet to silly problem is here!

GOD!!! i was dealing with very same issue for like more than 5 hours! same place, damn, my sofa is dying! i tried every way of restoring it, but it hanged! actually no of sms in backup were many, somewhere around 18k! so the app was not able to handle them. anyway if anyone in future face the same issue, here is what i did,
1, open messaging app, the default cm9 one, and remove sms limit for a thread!
2, restore backup
3, app will still give errors of not responding, so now comes the most tricky part, till now you have successfully restored the backup and phone has accommodated it in, but app is still not able to handle sudden load of messages. open titanium backup tap on backp\restore tab, scroll to messaging 4.0.4 app, tap on it, tap on run app and verify that messaging app is opening, if yes then it will again hang, exit it, if in hurry everything shuts, open the same place in titanium again, now instead of run app, tap on wipe data!
thats it, check it straight away now, should b working! if still facing issues, you are welcomed to PM me
Loaded the Madhi 4.4.4 ROM a few days ago. Most everything seems to work. I found the following.
It doesn't seem to delete contacts from the SIM card. It says they have been deleted, but re-boot and they are all there again.
The native e-mail fails. Apparently the e-mail exchange is eigther not starting or failing. The regular gmail app works.
Bluetooth cannot find the phone. The BT in my car pairs just fine, but when I try to make a call it cannot find the phone.
Overall I am really pleased with this ROM, phone is much nicer than the original t-mobile ROM.

First post you should have posted this in rom op. Secondly you should be more specific as to which gapps and if you are using Davlik(Defualt) or ART runtime. as far as deleting the contacts and them remaining in list. It is possible that it really is deleted from sim but not your google account via gsync.
SIM contacts
I wanted to post under the appropriate developers ROM listing, but xda would not permit me to post in that form.
Installed:
mahdi-2.7-ancora_tmo-20140721.zip
7-24_GApps_Minimal_4.4.4_signed.zip
Using the defaults
The SIM contact problem seems to be real.
Deleted most contacts from gmail account (through firefox & gmail.com)
On the phone:
Sync is OFF
Deleted the gmail app.
Using the Contacts app: import/export manage SIM contacts local only
deleted all contacts
some contacts would not delete unless I went in manually to remove all info & name
checked again, everything seemed to be gone
exit contact app.
reboot phone
go back in and check SIM contacts, they are all back, even some that were never on google contacts

1st No problem and understandable. 2nd since you didn't list who's gapps Banks, PA, Slim, CM11, etc. I'll assume from build zip that it's prolly banks. When you flashed the rom did you wipe everything except /boot and /sdcard1(external sd) before flashing rom. also did you do 1 full boot before installing gapps as well as wipe davlik-cache after each flash? if not that could be causing some if not all the issues. I've been running this rom prior to public release (same exact build) and have not came across any issues what so ever. i use twrp 2.3.1.0 as i have grown to like it much better then cwm. Wiped everything but my external sdcard as i don't swap sdcards or anything like that and have my nandroid backups go on it. I have noticed in my own experience if i dont wipe sdcard0(internal SD) i have gapp issues from what ever gets left over from previous roms. So in case you don't remember how you flashed it, I would try that first so everything is completely clean.back up what you have on internal sd that you want to keep either on external sd or pc or w/e.
1. TWRP or CWM wipe everything like i said before expect /boot and /external sd(sdcard1)
2. install rom only then wipe davlik-cache and reboot.
3. Once first boot is done you can either A) reboot phone then hold buttons to go back into recovery OR B) (Easier on hardware and safer) go to settings>about tap build number until dev options is active then go to settings>dev and put a check mark on advance reboot. then when you press and hold the power button you will get the option to reboot to recovery xD.
4. Install gapps (im currently using Banks Min 7/29 build a.) then wipe dalvik-cache and reboot.
5. Repeat for anything you need/want to flash thru recovery. 1 zip wipe davlik then reboot.
I followed your instructions. It seems to have fixed all the issues. I don't recall doing all the wipes and reboots last time. I think I just went in and loaded both the madhi and gapps and rebooted.
So far everything I have tried has worked.
Thank's for your help.

Hi
I've installed [Team Canjica] CM11 ROM yesterday, and it works very well.
However, after installing Whatsapp, Whatsapp displays a message about it being a custom ROM and therefore not fully supported.
It then attempts to restore the chat history and after some lengthy processing, says it couldn't restore the history.
Otherwise Whatsapp works normally and is able to send and receive messages.
I am very interested in restoring my chat history, and unsuccessfully tried the methods suggested on Whatsapp's support website, as well as by their support email.
Can anyone help me, please?

I am not 100% sure, but messages should be somewhere in Whatsapp folder on internal or external SD card. See if you did not delete it. You tried to restore them in the past on some other ROM?

Chat history files are indeed there on my storage on /Whatsapp/databases, and although whatsapp finds them and attempts restoring them, it repeatedly fails to restore them.
I have tried removing and re-installing whatsapp several times, even with older backup files too, unsuccessfully :crying:
Any suggestions?

Not sure. Try to transfer that folder to other storage (on external if it is on internal now). If that does not help try with other ROM and see what happens. I used CM11 and I have restored Whatsapp chats without problem as I remember.

Thank you, I've tried moving to another storage but it hadn't worked.
Which CM11 ROM have you used?

[Partially SOLVED]: WhatsApp+ restored my chat history
Hi all.
I have installed WhatsApp+ (I am not sure but I think it is currently in Hebrew only).
It needs installing from the SD card, and is not available in PLAY store
WhatsApp+ restored my chat history.
Having my chat history "back" I removed WhatsApp+ and installed WhatsApp (original) again, but it again failed in restoring my chat history, so I re-installed WhatsApp+ and will use it for now.
If anyone needs help with the Hebrew on WhatsApp+'s site I will gladly help.
Good Luck!
Maybe there is an option in whatsapp+ to do a backup, and later to do manual restore in org app

You're right, there is - the same as in WhatsApp.
It produced the same failure to restore in WhatsApp, although whatsapp+ successfully restored.
Until I find another option to restore I'll stick with the WhatsApp+ for the time being.
Optionally I may send myself selected chats by mail, like in WhatsApp.
@ArcSer
Just keep Whatsapp+, no?
I use it too from the last year and it's way better than original one.

This thread is old, but my experience maybe can help someone
I had the same problem, because I swapped between LineageOS derivated ROMs for tests (but not on Galaxy S Advance I9070).
I backupped key file from /data/data/com.whatsapp/files and wa.db from /data/data/com.whatsapp/databases.
For the first test, I followed this advices from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/whatsapp-whatsapp-offer-backup-restore-t3342014:
Prerequisites:
1) Whatsapp Viewer (Links are forbidden for new users, you will find it at Github)
2) msgstore.db.cryptX from a backup (the "X" from msgstore.db.cryptX stays for the version of message database encryption)
3) key file from /data/data/com.whatsapp/files from a backup
4) Whatsapp must not have been started before
5) Phone number / SIM of backup and restore phone must be identical
6) Wifi connection for verification process
Procedure:
1) Install Whatsapp, but do not start it
2) Extract msgstore.db from msgstore.db.cryptX with the help of Whatsapp Viewer (the "X" from msgstore.db.cryptX stays for the version of message database encryption)
3) Copy msgstore.db to /storage/emulated/0/Whatsapp/Databases
4) Start Whatsapp and hit "Restore" when it's offered
5) Wait for "Initialisation" to finish. It took about 3 minutes in my case. So be patient.
6) Enter Name and assign a profile picture, hit next
7) Finish!
but nothing. I uninstalled Whatsapp.
For the second test, I installed Whatsapp again, left (only) msgstore.db in /storage/emulated/0/Whatsapp/Databases and copied key and wa.db files into their folders, overwriting the original files. Whatsapp crashed and I uninstalled Whatsapp again.
For a third test, I installed Whatsapp again (all untouched after second test), but maybe the key file automatic overwritten during the app initialization, because now Whatsapp working and it restored successfully chat history!!
After these tests, I think that the only files to leave/overwrite are: wa.db in /data/data/com.whatsapp/databases and maybe decrypted msgstore.db in /storage/emulated/0/Whatsapp/Databases (but I think that also encrypted one should work).
Hy,
Just want to give my impression about using Whatsapp+ or GB Whatsapp or other 3rd party Whatsapp App, dont forget that Whataspp can BAN your number if they find you're using any other program instead of the original APP, it happened to a friend of mine so be careful not to use those fancy things that the original App doesnt have, even more, we all still don't knowhow safe is our data while passing through this 3rd party Apps, they look good and have nice features but it may have a high cost.
BR
I had same problem because install LineageOS on galaxy a7 2017,
but I have done these stuff and my whatsapp has worked corroctly:
0- install simulator android and install whatsapp and sign your number then restore your chats then go to internalStorage>whatsapp
1-cory backups and databases folders to safe place
2-go to Internad Storage>Android>data>com.whatsapp then copy cash folder to safe place
3-install whatsapp on your phone and not login.
4-go to setting > permission and allow whatsapp access to storage,camera,mic,...
5-copy all of files databases, chash, backups to your phone with same directories( databeses and backups copy to >> internalstorage>whatsapp and chash copy to internalstorage>android>data>.com.whatsapp)
6-now sign in your whatsapp
7-Enjoy it.
