Hi,
I flash latest ship rom HKCSL WWE and radio v3.49.25.17. But I have a problem, everytime I run Garmin XT the GPRS run automatically, even if I turn the data connection off.
Question : what's wrong? when i used the ship rom SEA WWE and radio v3.44.25.27 I didn't have this problem.
Seems like it would be an issue with Garmin trying to access a service such as traffic updates, speed cams, or some other service that would require data.
Check your settings in Garmin and make sure all services that require data are turned off.

A few of us at the office upgradded our Siemens SX66s to 1.40.124 with Radio 1.13.00. Ever since then we have had issues with the GPRS communications. We have to turn the unit to flight mode and then back on and it works fine. The Cell portion works great, we can send and receieve with no issues. When we try to Sync up with the Exchange Server we get either an Internet 31, 33 or 36 Error. and either toggling flight mode or softreset makes it work again.
This happens if you dont use it for a a bit of time (not sure how long) Though if you are surfing the net, you can stay connected for as long as you need to.
Is there some setting that turns off the radio for GPRS or something?
Anyone else have issues with an SX66 running Radio 1.13.00?
Thanks,
Scott<-

Hi was in vodafone shop yesterday, looking at v1615 and got talking about GPS. I assumed that mobile GPS involves phone and software and thats all spending done the guy in the shop said that GPS involves connection hence a data charge, is this true and what approx is the average data charge.
Thanks
Marc
GPS itself does not use the cellular radio. If you get a standalone GPS app, there is no data charge. You can confirm this if you want by turning off the phone, wifi, and bluetooth radios, then using GPS. If you use the App included on the AT&T tilt, this application connects to the internet to download map data, and you will be charged for data. Applications like Garmin XT, or many other available applications do not use data connections at all.
Jozer99, Do you have any reccommended GPS software for the kaiser?
The most common seem to be tom tom and co-pilot
tomtom and garmin...its free to use...but ur gonna have to purchase it before hand...but after that its free to use day to day
I have two questions really..
I live in the Netherlands and have an always-on internet subscription... but when I travel abroad I want to do the following:
1) Turn off all data transfer so I don't get charged for things that want to update or whatever
2) Keep the GPS functioning
Using the connections manager, I turned the data connection off, but this didn't work at all. It would just connect through the phone line anyway. I resorted to deleting all the internet settings from the phone which was a difficult, lengthy and frustrating process, and I ahd to put them all back in when I got home.
Also, after I did that, GPS did not work anymore. I could not find a setting anywhere to turn on or off the GPS by itself... is it linked to the data connection? I couldn't actually turn the data connection on in the connection manager when I deleted the settings... I couldn't access the GPS at all from any program unless I had the data connection on, and working. Is that right, and... isn't that weird?
Yes, it's weird. I faced same problem. Solutions?
To totally prevent data connections, you have 2 choices:
1- remove GPRS/3G configuration from provider
or
2- nodata! That's what I use
About the GPS not working while in fligh mode, I turn on bluetooth and then GPs works
or alternatively rename the access point name...
e.g. mine is "orangeinternet" I stick a character in front "xorangeinternet" and thus it fails to connect if you do accidently start up an app that tries to connect.
I know it works for Orange - cant confirm it with other providers but I suspect it will be the same.
Can anyone else on other provider networks confirm?
nodata is quite handy
Nice, I'll try nodata!
The GPS eludes me though.
Use "Advanced Config 3.2" Available on this site.
Menu->More Settings->Connections
You can disable each network connection. does not affect GPS
To use solely the GPS you need to install a specific GPS enabled stand alone software on your phone, such as TomTom or IGO.
Otherwise you will be using a AGPS data connexion which is expensive abroad.

Click to collapse
actually it does... tomtom7 doesn't work if you're in flight mode (no problem with igo8 thou).
Don't know if anyone else is having these issues! Kaiser shows its connected to 3G on the home screen, however if i attempt to make a call/update weather or go online in anyway the signal drops out taking a while to reconnect to gsm/gprs standard. I have had this issue with JJ's latest rom and shifu's 6.5 roms. It's kind of annoying as gprs is so slow. It isn't the Kaiser or Orange UK as 3G works fine on 6.1/6.0 roms. Any Ideas????
Should mention, i've tried most of the 1.65 and 1.71 radios, still having this issue.
Have you verified that your settings are correct, did you try re-running Connection Setup?
I haven't booted my Kaiser up in about 2 years, but I am getting ready to leave the country for a vacation and am hoping to satisfy my want to have a GPS device without having to either purchase any International Plans or purchase a dedicated GPS device.
The GPS is still quite functional and working fine, if I turn the cellular radio on, even though I no longer have active service through the device. It looks as though the GPS is disabled, or at least isn't working in my GPS apps when the cellular radio is turned off. Is there any way to use the GPS on the Kaiser but keep the cellular radio off for battery savings and simply because I don't need it?
My Kaiser setup:
ROM: Shifu 4.1 WWE
Radio: 1.71.09.01
HardSPL 3.29
hi, i m using the same radio, and gps seems to be not working also (ahmedfikri rom), looking for some fix
