I haven't booted my Kaiser up in about 2 years, but I am getting ready to leave the country for a vacation and am hoping to satisfy my want to have a GPS device without having to either purchase any International Plans or purchase a dedicated GPS device.
The GPS is still quite functional and working fine, if I turn the cellular radio on, even though I no longer have active service through the device. It looks as though the GPS is disabled, or at least isn't working in my GPS apps when the cellular radio is turned off. Is there any way to use the GPS on the Kaiser but keep the cellular radio off for battery savings and simply because I don't need it?
My Kaiser setup:
ROM: Shifu 4.1 WWE
Radio: 1.71.09.01
HardSPL 3.29
hi, i m using the same radio, and gps seems to be not working also (ahmedfikri rom), looking for some fix

A few of us at the office upgradded our Siemens SX66s to 1.40.124 with Radio 1.13.00. Ever since then we have had issues with the GPRS communications. We have to turn the unit to flight mode and then back on and it works fine. The Cell portion works great, we can send and receieve with no issues. When we try to Sync up with the Exchange Server we get either an Internet 31, 33 or 36 Error. and either toggling flight mode or softreset makes it work again.
This happens if you dont use it for a a bit of time (not sure how long) Though if you are surfing the net, you can stay connected for as long as you need to.
Is there some setting that turns off the radio for GPRS or something?
Anyone else have issues with an SX66 running Radio 1.13.00?
Thanks,
Scott<-

Since I upgraded my ROM, I've had a number of connection issues with my MDA's (T-Mobile USA) GPRS radio. Often, for no reason, I'll lose a connection or have a hard time getting connected after it's been working for a while. I'd hate to have to use the trick I used to with my old Audiovox 5600 (cycle on and off flight mode) to get this thing working. Any others with similar experiences of suggestions for addressing this issue?
2 questions.
1.does it use data? I mean will I get charged from the cell phone company by using GPS? I am in Canada and I am using Fido
2.when running TOMTOM7 for a while, the phone runs very hot and the battery died really quickly, is it normal?
new to the forum, Thanks guys
hi
HI, you on stock rom?
No fee for GPS as long as you turn off AGPS. Use Advanced config version 3.
I reccomend the BSB ROM 6.5K
Stu
1. as long as you are using TomTom WITHOUT the traffic update or routes update then it wont charge you data. I have TOmTom running without data plan and is also living in Canada
2. yes GPS does kill your battery very quickly.. and it does make it hot consider it has the screen on the whole time. I highly suggest you to get a car charger if you are going to use GPS often
You get charged if aGPS is enabled?
Agps uses data from the network to help get a fix on teh GPS. Don't know how much data is used, but its not required.
Is it feasible to change the radio without changing the ROM?
I am running the stock WM6.1, but my WiFi sucks since I installed my home wireless system. I installed a linksys WRT110 RANGEPLUS wireless router...range is good for my laptop, but the Tilt is good out to about 20 feet with the stock radio.
I don't think the radio has anything to do with wireless, just the camera, sound and cell radio.
hey, 2 quick questions b4 this is closed down:
the stock roms(and their upgrades), do these upgrade files(they just have 1 big .exe file, and no .nbh file) also change your radio?
and secondly, since i changed roms, radio and spl, my gps is now a couple thousand meters off point, would this be bcuz of my rom/radio/spl, or are the satellites just havn a bad day. (satellite..having a bad day....... get it.... lmao)
its ok to change radio without changing rom..changing radio is for you to get a good signal from your service provider and gps i think..and for your wifi problems change your kaiser wifi settings to full performance, it might be in full battery option..
Well, even though I live in the boonies, I have a full strength HSDPA signal and my GPS works like a charm.
WiFi worked well at some hotspots in the past, but now, not so much, especially with the set up I have in the house.
Don't matter, I have the unlimited data plan, and 8meg cable for internet.
Just thought I could get the WiFi working better.
Hi,
I flash latest ship rom HKCSL WWE and radio v3.49.25.17. But I have a problem, everytime I run Garmin XT the GPRS run automatically, even if I turn the data connection off.
Question : what's wrong? when i used the ship rom SEA WWE and radio v3.44.25.27 I didn't have this problem.
Seems like it would be an issue with Garmin trying to access a service such as traffic updates, speed cams, or some other service that would require data.
Check your settings in Garmin and make sure all services that require data are turned off.
