Ok since I have frf83, am I now rooted? Like can I use cyanogen mods and what not? The reason I'm asking is because I just saw a thread containing a new launcher called- TouchWiz...and the dev said that it requires root access -frf83- ... I'm not sure what this means lol.. I haven't rooted my nexus one, but am I rooted? :shrugs:
Thanks for helping me

did you get FRF83 OTA ? If so then no, you don't have root.
I forgot what OTA stands for.... But here is the process -basically- bought nexus one, installed froyo, installed the first update -frf50- then to frf72 now 83...
I mind you, this was not all at once lol.. I bought nexus one when it first came out.. All this was over time.. I updated my nexus when the updates first came at as well.. -all this is just a side note-
So basically, I just have the updates and not rooted? Right? ....
And what's this OTA thing? What does it do? What does it stand for? I forgot... And if I don't have it, should I get it? ..
Thanks again for your help, I'm just trying to get up to par with everybody lol

Yes you got the leaked builds that went out Over the Air (OTA).
You don't have root access.
That's right! Over the air.. I knew that. lol .. Ok that's what I thought, I appreciate man. So what we have is not official updates from google?

The last one (FRF83) may be the final version. Previous ones were release candidates.

AFAIK, Never, because it will not fit on an unrooted G1. it needs to have the DangerSPL because it frees up 10MB for the system partition to use.

Goolge said that G1's weren't going above 1.6, only newer android devices are getting 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2, so either root or enjoy your plain donut
Moved to the Q&A thread.
just root if you wanna get 2.1 or 2.2, as was stated beforehand, you'll never get an ota update again for your phone. soz bud..

OTA updates are weak.
Root the phone either yourself or pay someone that has experience doing so in the past.
It is just essential in taking advantage of your HTC Dream/G1 fully.
Rom Devs contributing their amazing work here on xda work wonders and should be recognized as such.
Once I got mine rooted I was more than ecstatic with the results and continue to be til this day.
Any word on the effects of updating to 2.2 ota with root. Will it brick us? Kill root?

Ain't even seen a real 2.2 image yet. How are we going to know what it will effect?
Thanks for the attitude little boy. ..

Birdman says that they were rolling it out possibly today, so i don't see why his question is not valid.
His question is typically invalid due to the small numbers of people claiming to be getting 2.2 update.
His question is valid because we should no from other android phones getteing updates while they were rooted! The answer it no, it will not brick your phone, but it is a 50/50 chance if it will stay rooted or not, in this cause it will lean toward the unrooted side I would imagine!
Would I need to reinstall the Verizon apps that I removed/backed up after rooting before updating to 2.2?
More than likely, the .604 update requires that those apps are present
I just got a rooted Atrix 4G which is running 2.2.2 but I can't tell if its stock or not and I want to upgrade to Gingerbread somehow. I don't know what to do exactly in order to have it. So if some who has had the same question about this was able to upgrade to Gingerbread and could help me out that would be great. Also If i need to uproot in order to get it please help me out with that to I looked into aRoot and that seemed a little bit skeptical so just let me know via PM or the thread.
.......really? :|

for starters, go to menu>settings>about phone and see if anything there gives away the state of your rom. also, is your BL unlocked (does it show unlocked on motorola boot animation)?
If your phone has all the blur content and has certain things locked down and such then chances are its stock.
another thing to check is whether or not your system is deodexed as most custom roms are.
I don't know a foolproof way of checking myself.
Alright well I don't think my phone has a custom rom on it but here is what I have just to make sure im right. I do know my phone does not have an unlocked b.l
System Version: 4.1.83MB860.ATT.en.US
Model:MB860
Baseband: N_01.77.15P
Webtop: oshwt_u1_4.257.30
Build number: OLYFR_U4_1.8.3
Let me know if I need anything else. I would take a screenshot but the app doesn't work for some reason.

seems like stock. at any rate, the OTA image will fail to update during the version check if it's not. follow motorola's update instructions here: http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-EN/Android_Products/ATRIX-4G_Software_Update_Page

Thread closed. Post in the correct section
I was trying to connect my D4 with the leaked ICS ROM though adb
but after typing adb shell, it keep telling my device was offline
if i can connect the device, is it possible to push the busybox, su, etc to /system/xbin and enabling the root privilege?
Can't help you with actually rooting the build (sorry), but I have seen other threads that seem to indicate that if you reinstall your drivers the problem should resolve itself...
Where is the leaked rom?

all the info on the leaked d4 ics is @ DROID forums. in the d4 development section.

no luck anyone? i really want root back.....I love everything about this update i just want my root back please!!!!!
I can point you in the right direction. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467598 I think if we knew the correct hex values to change in the .bat we might be able to get root.
It seems the problem i face now is i cannot push the files to the phone as permission denied.....or device offline....i actually could even push su to /data/local
which render other commands useless.....
Per p3droid twitter:
@P3Droid R U A Moto fan, then this is exciting news, @djrbliss just created a new universal root for the new 4.0.4 leaks.

The last posts I saw from him said it's not posted yet. He posted it's been tested on the D4 as well. So it shouldn't be much longer.

pimpsalot69: He was referring to getting it installed, not getting root. Unfortunately, if you lost root during the upgrade process (like I did) there isn't currently a way to restore it. You'll have to wait for a new method to be released.
Please Help root Droid 4 ICS

I thought the GSM patch is automatically enabled on the ICS ROM? All you have to do is put in your foreign SIM card and you should be ready to go.

It doesn't seem to work - I put in the foreign SIM and can make and receive calls without an issue. But no 3G data available (and I have set all the data roaming, etc. on in settings). If I had root access, then I could try to flash that rom to see if it worked. I'm in South Africa on the Vodacom network (3G).
So I've recently caught wind of yet another update for the holiday. It hasn't come to rogers yet so I don't have to worry about the update for now but I would like to be prepared when and if it comes. Is it safe to update with root and unlocked bootloader? would I need to revert back to stock or just use OTA Rootkeeer. Also I've deleted and frozen some system apps and flashed hq camera which replaced the original camera and installed dsp manager.

No need to. IF there ever is a new update, and if that update has any benefits (sense 4/Jelly bean) a dev will most likely build it into their rom. Possibly even package it up to flash it in cwm, so you don't have to s-on and all that jazz. But, so far evidence proves we'll most likely never see an update.
Thanks for the quick response. I always like to know things ahead of time
