You could but you would need to replace CWM recovery with the standard HTC recovery first before you attempted to download and run an OTA update.
The best advice I could give you is wait for the update to come out and then update using a fully rooted version of it so you won't lose root. With almost all of the newest GB updates that HTC has been providing for their different models, they are fixing all known root exploits and applying an OTA will cause you to lose root without a way of getting it back easily.
Thanks alot!!!!

You're surely better off to avoid ota updates and just install custom ROMs, you should be able to get
a close to stock one

If I am not wrong the link where HTC checks for sw upgrade is in build.prop.
Would it be same for all carriers and if not can some one post the link for Bell raider stock Rom.

@Nastas82 - what Zombie is looking for is the web address where a Stock Bell Rom checks when it polls HTC for updates, if I am not mistaken.

I actually got them from the bell stock Rom and updated my build.prop.
I hope Bell releases the ics Rom soon....

Good thinking. Your sig says you are running stock, but I guess not if you did this prop file editing? I'm currently running WC's last GB release, but am thinking about relocating and going back to stock in hopes that the OTA will work. As anxious as I am to get the new HBOOT, I'm also thinking that Bell has never been quick off the draw to release updates, so it could still be a while...
MM
If you're running one of the Sense 3.5 ROMs, I'm pretty sure you won't get an OTA notification, even if you set the right update-check address in the build.prop.
Yes I am not sure if it would work but was worth changing as no side effects .
I know Bell is testing this and the sensation One should be out 1st. I hope someone with the test device leaks the Rom.

Shouldn't be too long of a wait now with it already rolling out in Australia and HTC announcing they started rolling it out. Hopefully another week or 2 and it hits Canada
This article was from Feb 17th, 2012.

Kind of ironic that the Raider is absent from HTC Canada's Facebook page.
The htc blog link posted above was released today by htc. I am not sure if Bell sensation got ics. The post says that ics will be first so I guess we can expect something after that.
Unless someone one leaks it before.

Mobile syrup reported the following this morning:

Basically says Sensation is rolling out, Sensation variants to follow in next few weeks. Nothing specific on the Raider; just an affirmation that it is coming... Frustrating having no sign of S-off, sitting on the sidelines reading the threads discussing ics on he other carrier Holidays...

Yes you will lose root and you would also need to relock your bootloader as well.

MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!
Make sure that if you have a custom recovery that is is updated & double check that it is. Write the version numbers down to confirm, both before & after.
There was an early recovery that could not (CANNOT) be overwritten without flashing a modified PH39IMG file first, then flashing stock or new modified recovery.
If you update with your device with that original recovery, you may be very sorry.
Ok so I put the ICS that Pirate put up before he got mad and took it down. Doing what I had to do in order to get that on my ohone, does that, mean I'm already set to use this RUU and get the "official" ICS update if I so choose?

No you need to relock the bootloader in order to use the RUU.
Ok that's what I had thought, just all this talk of different recoveries and stuff started to confuse me lol... Thanks for the help

Stock Vivid and Beyond ICS
After reading some of the posts - I have a few questions.
I have a stock AT&T Vivid. I believe I can just install the following directly - correct?
http://dl3.htc.com/application/htc_vivid_att_RUU_3.26.502.56_US.exe
Then after upgrade to ICS -- can some one point me to the correct direction to ROOT and SIM UNLOCK the Vivid after I upgrade to ICS?
Thank you!
Run the ruu...Unsure of which tools exactly are for just rooting youl, have to either call att for a simunlock code or purchase one from online

So, just to confirm, I assume that "YES" I can run the update on stock AT&T (no rooting required) and then after I upgrade to ICS any RUU will root -- nothing special to root ICS?
Thank you!

RUU=ROM Update Utility. These are full builds released from HTC that will NOT have root. A lot of custom ROMs are built from an RUU, but rooted during the cooking process.
thanks works great! a little slow on my virtual machine windows but that's not the ruu's fault, it's my lack of memory. one thing it doesn't tell you is to put it into fastboot mode.
do we know if Rogers Raider can work with this ?
anybody with rogers already flashed this, please confirm.
Look 4 posts up I already said it will only work for att

What do you mean by this? That before I run the ruu, I need to update CWM to the newest version?
Hello all here is the issue. My girlfriend has the HtC vivid and I have rooted it and obtained s-off with the wire trick. After I was done with this I attempted to find a good ROM for flashing there are very few. I decided on Virtuous Inquisition after installing VI I was fairly happy with the outcome no sense is the goal here. After the flash I noticed the signal bars not working like descired in almost all the non-sense HtC vivid ROMs. This seemed like no problem because the phone still technically had service right?
-well after using it for a few days my girlfriend disconvered that her text messages would fail to send sometimes actually sending them sometimes not. It would take serveral attempts to send the message and once it finally sent the recipent would sometime recieve for than one messages even though the vivid says it only sent 1. The same thing occured with phone calls she would have to try to call someone four or five times before it would go through. It also works the other way and sometime she will not get messages or calls for long periods of time.
This all occurs in VI and in [TEAM CODEFIRE][ICS]De-Sensed Rom by Wajee 1.6. I have tried using the stock kernel and the provided kernel with both of these as well. I have also used several different APNs and they all do the same thing.
I just flashed the stock kernel and ROM back on to the device and I am seeing if she has any problems. Could the wire trick have damaged the phone? I have not heard of anyone else having this problem.
What else can I try
Both of the desensed ROMs have plenty of issues. Wajeeh's is probably the better bet if you wanna stick with no sense. Otherwise Google wcx illuminati and go with that. It's the best ROM for the vivid by a LONG shot.

I always flash the faux007 kernel because i get better battery life with it. you can always try different ones to see how they run
Well I think I found my problem. I unlocked the boot loader on the phone the first time I flashed a ROM but re locked it. I just noticed it was lock so I unlocked it and installed wajee 1.6 and so far so good.

So I wanted to root my htc one and install a custom rom on it and everything went wrong. I unlocked the bootloader, flashed twrp, installed superuser. I then tried to install android revolution hd 12.1. after installing it from sd card it said that my device was not rooted and it rebooted and now i am stuck on the bootloader screen. I cannot try and install the rom again due to all my data being wiped somehow and I have relocked the bootloader and tried to run the ruu to return to stock but it says I need the correct ruu i updated to 1.31. someone please help!!!
It is loading to the "htc quite brilliant" screen and it wont go no farther, I can still get into bootloader and recovery though
Sprint Htc One issues
I am having a very similar issue! I just want to be able to use my phone whether stock or rooted now. Help!!!!!!
If you can access the boot loader, unlock it again then use TWRP's sideload feature to flash the ROM. Or you can probably find. The correct RUU in the sprint one forum.
AT&T HTC One
BaadNewz's InsertCoin 3.0-7
Flar2's Bulletproof 3.4
Once you guys get your phone's fixed, make sure to flash a sprint compatible Rom. Android revolution hd isn't compatible for our phones yet

Seriously. The number of people who've managed to put themselves in this situation is staggering. We may just want to have a PSA sticky that says not to flash that ROM.
OP, you should at the least put your phone into fastboot because an RUU will not run with the bootloader open, but I'm not sure if there's a new RUU available for the latest OTA.
Fortunately you are not bricked try out this tool it makes your recovery so much easier http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236814 with this you can flash a recovery and sideload a rom, you might have to also click the download HTC drivers as well. Make sure you sideload a SPRINT compatible Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2219. GL!
So find a Sprint Rom you like and download it, then from bootloader you can use this tool and sideload a rom and flash a recovery.
Ive got it to install a rom, i installed viperrom. After i did that and it boots up it says I have no service and the phone will reboot on its own. what do i do now?
You will likely have to RUU back to stock. The non Sprint Rom probable buggered the partitions or the baseband. Look in android development to find the RUU file you need. I don't think you can use the older one if you got the recent OTA.

Thats what I want to do go back to stock. Do you know where the ruu for 1.31 is?
I can't find it. I heard it was out there in a thread recently. Here is the older one though. That may work, I haven't tried though.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=
I haven't explored it myself, but I saw anecdotal posts stating that they were able to use the older RUU.

Might have to wait for the RUU file to drop then. Coming from Samsung devices for a long time, I'm used to being able to use Odin to go back to older factory firmware without issue. It's a bummer. Maybe someone more versed will have better info.

Does the Non-Sprint HTC One threads say "Sprint"? No.
Are the Sprint HTC One forums labeled "Sprint"? Yes.
Do nearly all the ROM threads in the non-Sprint forums say something along the line of "not for Sprint variant" including the revolution HD thread (all US carriers apart from Sprint)? Yes.
Just take a minute to read through the thread before flashing something. I mean, this is an expensive device where messing with system level files CAN ruin it (obviously) So, don't go jumping into stuff if you aren't going to take the time to understand it.
