Im currently running modaco r22 an im looking to try out one of the froyo roms but i saw that i have to update my radio i was wondering if i update my radio so i can install the froyo rom if it will stay updated, if i dislike the the froyo rom an want to come back to modaco do i have to degrade the radio? or if i do a nandroid backup i dont have to worry about downgrading the radio?
(if anybody would like to help) *which is the best froyo rom?*
Wrong forum, this should be in Q&A. But if you want to go back to a non-Froyo ROM, you can flash a 4.03/4.04 radio just like you did the 4.06 to downgrade.
oh sorry for placing it in the wrong forum, so basically if i get a froyo rom an dislike it i just have to flash the radio i have now?
If you go to cyanogen 5.0.8 you don't need to downgrade radio. On any other non froyo rom you need to downgrade radio.

Some people get crazy when stuff's posted in the wrong place.
Basically, if you upgrade to CM 5.08 or a Froyo-based ROM, you'll need the 4.06 (Froyo) radio.
If you decide to go back to a 2.1 (non CM 5.08) ROM, you'll want to downgrade your radio as well, otherwise some things may not work properly (camera, etc.).
Thread moved to Q&A.
Oh ok thanks a lot tjsimm... I really appreciate it.

No problem. As for the ROMs, I've been enjoying Kang-o-Rama 0.9. It's now in Final, and it's rock solid. Haven't had any issues at all.

If you were reading the phone settings then ignore that....The radio of the phone can be found via cam+power...
Yeah but what is the best version?? the 17U or 17H? I've been modding my G1 since it was possible and never came across this close of an ota version
There is only one radio that is avail for G1....
There is no best version...The roms are based off of OTA's taht are released or dumps that are made...
Thanks I'll try the 17H and if I don't like it go back to 17U

Do you have a hero or something?

DO NOT FLASH A RADIO MEANT FOR A DIFFERENT DEVICE!!!!!! Doing so is one of the easier ways to brick your phone.
Have the G1 T-Mobile and would never flash the wrong radio. Been doing this to long.. Thanks for the advice though
Quick question been trying to upload a picture for my profile but keeps saying upload failed and it is less than the requirement. Nevermind got it now Thank you for all your help and for being able to gets some answers to other questions I have had in the past in this forum. You guys are great
ok hey guys i was wondering, Once you root your phone and install a custom rom is there any way to go all the way back to the original rom and unroot? i also wanted to know how do we know if we need to update the radio? or does that only apply to gsm phones?

The search button is there, so I would use it.

Thats not ONLY for unrooting, but it has the steps there to get back to 100% stock and unroot.
As far as I know, there isn't really a way of knowing if you NEED to flash an updated radio, but there's no harm in trying the ones available, and seeing if you notice any difference in them.
thanks. and yea your right i blanked out about the search bar. lol ok but about the radio, i can update it and everything will be fine?
Before updating your radio make sure it's for CDMA and not GSM. Before I knew what I was doing with my phone I applied a GSM radio update and bricked my phone.
If you are running a 1.5 based ROM there really isn't a need to update the radio.
does that also count if im going to install the pancake 2.1 rom?
pankcake 2.1 is a 2.1 ROM. Check the Baseband version under Setting->About Phone->Software Information to see what version you are running after you flash pancake 2.1. If you would like to upgrade check out "Radios" section on the CDMA Hero ROMs at
wiki . xda-developers . com / index . php ? pagename = CDMA %20 Hero %20 ROMs
(Had to split up URL since I'm a noob user on the forum.)
geekfor . me also has a nice radio section.
And as flipz states
Different radios work differently depending on where you are in the country. You may actually get better performance out of another radio. Test them out.

oh wow. different radios =better signal! how cool! i am really worried about bricking my phone. I need my phone and i really want to but im scared. im trying to learn all i can befor i do it. can you un brick?
Sent from my HERO200 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
You can't unbrick all you can do is replace. I was able to get a replacement phone when I bricked my phone by applying a GSM radio update by mistake.
If you apply a CDMA radio update from the Radios section on the CDMA Hero ROMs wiki page then you should be good. Follow the instructions on the Geek For Me FAQ. Flipz knows his stuff.
As with any update I recommend doing a nandroid backup before you apply it just in case the update has undesired affects.
I'm currently running 2.42.00.03.10 on Fresh 2.0d with no issue.
Good luck!
I want you guys advice me what to do:
I flashed Pauls rom... and because it was originally released to all Tmo N1's mine is not doing so great with its radio... (the gps is slow and inaccurate)... and im thinking about THIS too, is mine going to be recognized as a tmo being att's version?
So... do i have just to wait for cyano to release its cooked version for att? or should i flash my eclair backup and flash my orginal radio again (this scares the crap out of me)?
The gps problems dont bother me so much, but, im thinking all the futures issues... should i just wait or whut?
They are the same phone don't worry. you could just try flashing your old radio if it worked etter for you.
I'm about to root and I want to use the same radio I currently have. My phone has been rock solid with reception, and all the issues I see I don't want to risk introducing any problems.

Most roms state if there's a radio update included if there isn't your radio will remain unchanged and you can always download an update.zip with your current radio so you can go back to it in the future if you update it and dislike it.
after i came back from froyo my video player wasnt working. i know that the froyo radio wont work on any cyan rom but my question is what radio do i need and where can i get it from. ive never flashed a radio before so thats why im asking. thanks

Radios post #3
Ok thanks just flash in recovery?
Hi all,
sry i have to start this topic but search here/other forums and even google gave me no results.
i whish to use Biffmod 2.1 on my HTC Dream /Dev Edition
in ROM topic is said:
"Radio Required: 2.22.23.02"
i just wanted to know (i´am EU-User) if i could go with "2.22.19.26i Non US" or is it simply not possible. so that i have to use 2.22.23.02
are there issues when using a US Radio in EU?
or does this have nothing to do with localisation
thanks and greetz
You can use both radio images, but probably you would like to use the +14MB RAM hack. You need a special kernel for that but this is existing. You should read in this thread and you can download the 2708-BiffMod from here.
To be honest, I never tried BiffMod. I am using Gingerbread now
thanks for the heads up.
but just to be clear. what you´re trying to teach me is, that flashing to a up(to)date radio and SPL (death spl) isn´t enough to run biffmod?
i even have to some how "manage" to get the 14MB+ RAM and ne kernel.
sry i´am a little confused now. working in this rom flash the whole day
greetz
You can use the "standard" method, i.e. DangerSPL, but I would not recomend it. You can gain additional 14MB RAM (not internal memory!) If you go with the other combo. The only "disadvantage" is, that you need a kernel which supports this combo.
It's your turn now to decide

After reading I'm assuming that the suggested route is following ezterry's hboot and radio update before installing Biffmod v2.1? I'm currently running a G1 with the 1.33.2005 HBOOT, 2.22.19.26I Radio, and CM6.1.0-ds. Also does Biffmod's ROM include the kernel or is it the ROM itself because ezterry's post suggested installing the kernel but I'm not sure if the ROM includes it.
Thanks
