Fresh 2.3? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I heard somewhere that fresh was working on the latest ROM for the Hero (2.3 I think was the version he was working on). Does anyone know when this is going to be released?

nobody really knows. i believe that there is a beta for his donaters out though, so maybe soon

According to one of his tweets earlier today, he just sent out the beta to donor's and testers. I imagine it will not be too long before it's released to the masses.

Great, I thought about going to the Evo4G, but where I live, there isn't 4G for 300 miles in any direction, so that just doesn't justify the mandatory $10 extra per month. I definitely will when 4G spreads in the next year.
But anyway, can't wait to see Fresh 2.3! Currently using Fresh, gotta say it's excellence!

I'm guessing Fresh 2.3 is still based on Sprint 2.1?

android 2.2???

i was just curious if the hero was getting the 2.2 update? doesnt look like much of a difference but im still curious
It is highly unlikely that we will see an official release of 2.2, but the devs here on this forum will try to work on it. darchstar has already stated that when the 2.2 source is released and implemented into Cyanogen mod, he will port it over.
While it might seem that different, there are a lot of major changes, especially in speeed. The Market has an autoupdate feature in 2.2, Apps2SD is built in (but, I assume, it's not based on our same Apps2SD. Just the same function), and JIT is fully functioning and working as it should. The Nexus One running 2.2 runs almost 8 times faster than it does with 2.1, or so I've been told.
lol, let the 2.2 threads begin....
We barely got 2.1.
Im sure after the devs get froyo working, sprint will steal it, mod it slightly, leak it back out to the devs for them to tweak, and us to test, then sprint will release it officially about 6 months later, blaming htc for the hold up and it will still have tons of problems. Then the devs will figure out how to root it and sprint/htc will put out a update almost the next day to patch the root exploit.
Anyone else have a idea?

So would you say it will be an ......"extreme" improvement (har har har oh not funny). Yeah your right we'll probably never see an official release. Unlike tmobile who have said or rumored to say all their phones that can get it will.

Nope. I would, however, say it would be pretty Xtreme
I would love to see 2.2 on my Hero. Especially because that would mean I could go into Sprint and show them that my Hero is running faster than their EVO
thanks for the feedback guys. yeah i was watching videos of the nexus one running 2.2 and that thing was blazing fast!!!
i sent HTC a message last night asking if the hero was going to get the 2.2 release and this was there response...
(Hello Chris, Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support about your device. Before releasing a ROM update we have to be sure that the software is going to work properly on your hardware and on your carrier’s network. This testing does take some time but will result in an update that is optimized to work on your device and on your carrier’s network. While we want to release software as soon as we can we will only do so once the software has passed our quality standards. At this time we do not have any information about an update for your device. When the update is released it will be announced on HTC.com.)
So basically "We don't feel like it"

the 2.1s are still buggy... stock or not. i don't even want to think about 2.2 yet.
Only way to fix bugs is with updates.

[Q] Evo 2.2 port to Hero possible?

This may have already been discussed but I couldn't find anything in the search. Has anyone done this or is it even possible to do? Are there any other ways to get 2.2 with sense on the Hero?
Not possible from evo. Its build for a different processor. Best bet will be when the legend gets there official release and gets ported over.

And 2.2 getting to Hero? Hah... no, not happening
Anything is possible. Officially? Probably not. Besides JIT, I cant see it offering anything worthwhile for me personally. I have a computer for junk requiring flash. My hero, currently, is blazing fast and so responsive that Im left thinking about my next touch...my device is always waiting on me.
I want a cdma legend.
Hero won't get an official 2.2 update. Sprint has said so already. That's not to say they won't release an update on August 13, but it won't be 2.2
who cares where this is supposed to be but it's here now. Anyways what really should be asked is whether someone is gonna port the desire 2.2 official rom to busy watching evo

Knowing Sprint it will be an update back to 1.5.
As far as I know, the closest thing to a fully functional Froyo on the CDMA Hero would be Cyanogenmod 6.
According to this link, the only thing NOT working is the PREVIEW for the camera apps. Otherwise, from what I've read, its an all around stable ROM ready for daily use.. As long as you're not co-dependent on your camera.
I'm thinking of taking the leap today.

Desire froyo is way to big to be ported. The best chances for a full port of froyo is from a legend build which when it comes out in the next month or so I already know someone who is getting ready for the port. Other than that the home made froyo is all that's gonna work for now.

Been using CM6T4 for over a month as daily... camera preview? Just use camera magic for that and for camcorder... well that's the sacrifice I made to have this phone run waaayyy faster and the battery life last waaayy longer than any other ROM out there

Are you serious??? Have you not seen the post for CM6.0.0?
Just so you know, that's Froyo, build FRF91, overclocked to 768mhz. Only thing that doesn't work is flash, b/c it's written for an arm7 processor, not an arm6.

Yes im using FRF91 but I have not seen a reason to upgrade past T4... I am overclocked to 768 and using everything that the new build has.... but again, no reason to upgrade past that.

[Q] Official ATT Android 2.2 update

Any announcement on the official ATT Android 2.2 update? I have one of the Captivates with the random shutdown issue and I wanted to wait until the update is released to have ATT make the exchange for a new one...since that was supposed to be this month (Dec).
official 2.2 will be out for the captivate when pigs fly.
Although Endgadget keeps teasing us.. now states that the Epic 4g will really (no I mean really this time) get the 2.2.1 update in early 2011.
At this point I have no hope that AT&T will release one nor that Samsung will ever release the Source code so the devs here on XDA can put out an awesome release.

That's where I was going with my estimation.
Sent from a phone somewhere in the universe
Samsung had tweeted that it would be by the end of the year. But a few have said ATT told them it wont be out this year.
In other words we probably still wont get it any time soon.
ATT is a bunch of liers. When I bought mine back in August, I bought it on there word that it would be out by the end of the year. Looks like I might be selling if they dont release it by the end of the year.

Um...I know it's Christmas and all...but can we skip ahead to doing THIS now please? I'm all for a treasure hunt and some beer with tiny people. Add my name to the list and let's get this party going!
My guess would be that pigs will fly before we get an update!
Actually, we were only told we'd get the update by the end of the year. Now that I think about it, they never said WHAT YEAR!!!
I was told by att when I bought the phone that froyo would be released by year end. It was the reason why I upgraded. And with less then a week left I may be returning the phone. Att is just about to perminantly lost me as a customer.

I would recommend to read up on how to Root your phone and flash a custom ROM. I have Cognition which is a froyo build. I have and have had froyo for a while on my captivate due to a custom ROM that probably works better than the official froyo anyway.

I run Cognition ROM, too, and it's great...but think how much better it would if the devs and an official 2.2 Froyo for Captivate to work off of.
It would be kind of hilarious is AT&T/Samsung jumped over 2.2 entirely and released a 2.3 version once that wide spread out int he wild.
Here is a new twist.... My wife received an email from Samsung today advertising that she would soon be able to enjoy Media Hub on her Captivate.
From what I've heard, this goes hand in hand with 2.2, doesn't it?
I think we're supposed to get it october of 2010
Indeed its only available on froyo.

I don't want to extinguish any hopes people may have, but I do not believe 2.2 is required. If I remember correct the Sprint Epic had MediaHub activated by a stand alone update right after it released. It released with 2.1, so pretty sure they can release it packaged in with 2.2 or just release a stand alone update to activate it.
I am sure if they release it as a stand alone update before Froyo, it will really frustrate Captivate owners even more. So hopefully its coming packaged in Froyo.

It's been like 40 days since it starting rolling out GB and Thunderbolt had the froyo kernel within like 2 weeks of kernel release I think some users were badgering HTC to release it as well. The main release I'm in a hurry is I want to get something out before I upgrade to the Nexus Prime which I will do upon release and won't spend as much time on the Inc.

They still haven't officially rolled out the update. They did a couple of test batches but it has never been released to all Incredibles. My buddy at work is stock and never got the notification. I think their tests always revealed another issue, like we've seen with the stock based roms.

Interesting, I guess they're letting the Inc fade out. Kind of amazing that it's even being considered, given how "old" this phone is.
I wish HTC would release another classic like this instead of turning to gimmicks like 3D and Beats. I mean, the Rezound? Really? Sense is enough of a selling point, IMHO. If they just backed it up with killer specs.
I digress. Thanks for the kernel, Stang. Much appreciated!
Thanks. I was wondering where this was like three weeks ago. Figured I was just blind :O Very useful for trouble shooting.
Well, its whatever. People on XDA would much rather bash those that need help than to actually help them. I'm still learning but I can't get anywhere with these types of comments. So until then I'll be over at themikmik.com.

On a serious note OP: please don't ask for eta's. It's really frowned upon and if you don't like it, start creating your own roms.

Ive tried out all the roms and i must say the tweaks put into them are pretty wicked. I have chosen to wait until a ICS build comes out. Went back to neutered CIQ stock.
