Sony Ericsson MW600 vs Sony Ericsson HBH-DS980 - HD2 Accessories

Hi all,
I want to buy one of these two BT stereo headsets...they have different prices (MW600 is cheaper, but not so much) but the cost it's not a problem for me, if it worth the money...
In this forum I've read a lot of good comments on these two bluetooth stereo headsets.
Both work well without any particular/big problems with our HD2: all things seem to work, buttons respond as you can expect and so on...
They have a lot of things in common, but also a few differences:
- the MW600 has a fm RDS radio and the HBH-DS980 no... but...
- the HBH-DS980 can manage the phonebook through its display and the MW600 no...
- Both can display names of the songs played and the caller ID, but while the HBH-DS980 (If I'm not wrong) can display the name of the caller ID, the MW600 can display just the phone number of the caller
(I don't know if there are other significant differences)
Now, my question(s) is(are):
- which one you would buy/advice? and why?
- which one is better in sound quality, battery drain, etc..?
Thanks in advance for any reply/suggestion/advice

UP...
ehy guys,
this thread was viewed more than 60 times but no one said what he thinks about...
so, don't be shy...
I would just have your opinions on these two bluetooth stereo headsets...a little comment, a comparison, etc...
Regards

Here's a good review of the MW600 posted by dutchtrance http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=652075.
Also here's a thread on bluetooth stereo headsets http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619894
I've been looking at the MW600 for a while but didn't want to shell out for it if it didn't work properly with the HD2 as I'd read in a review that some features had issues with non SE phones.
Hope this helps!

thanks for your hints.
I've read some discussions here on xda HD2 subforum about these two headsets.
They seem to work properly with our LEO, but...
I think I'll buy the HBH-DS980 because of its more useful display, that can manage the phonebook, let you choose songs to play, etc..
Regards

hi.i have sony MW600 AND is just perfect....i am using it with my hd2 and is nice.good quality sound for both(speak or listen music)..and the batery is just insane!!!10h of music...if you guys wanna buy this device do it.is just perfect.
regards.liviu.

thanks for your advice...
what about the display?
- can visualize the name of the song played?
- can visualize the name of the caller id?
...and, please, anyone who has the other handset (HBH-DS980) can post some comments on it, about sound quality, displayed information, etc..?
many thanks

hi m8...yes you can see the song name.when you have an incoming call you see the number but not the name or maybe didnt see or set up well...but anyway m8...40£ is a great deal.

buyed MW600...simply great!
Hi mates,
in the end I decided: sony ericsson MW600 was my choice, 'cause it's newer and cheaper than the other one (HBH-DS980), it has a 3,5 mm jack for the headset if you don't like the original, and (above all) it was the most "well commented" around here ;-)
First impressions: very, very, very good sound (I was astonished!)...
all things/buttons just work in the way you can expect...
very, very, very good battery life...
It displays correctly the name of the played song and...
also the NAME OF THE CALLER ID if in my phonebook (please...say oooooooohhhhhhhh 'cause other people said that it can't ;-) )
...and, last but surely not least, with some tweaks now I can also make voice commands by just pressing the main button on the bt headset (so, without activating the software by hand on my HD2...really nice, really handsfree).
I suspect that, respect to the other users here on XDA that had experienced the contrary, in my MW600 the name of the caller ID is displayed thanks to those tweaks.
So I want to share my experience with you guys.
What I've done:
1) followed the istructions described in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5496714&postcount=18
2) done the steps described in this post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6309729&postcount=43
3)...but not with the attached file of that post, but with the file (the fixed one) that you can find at the end of the following post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6409656&postcount=47
Really great!

Really annoyed:

I purchased the motorola HS850 a couple of days ago, seems pretty good paired up sraight away.
Problems are as follows.
The BT headset can't be used as a microphone for recording your voice, and/or giving commands to Voice Command software!!! Also i cant work out what pressing the button once quickly when not on the phone does. On normal mobiles you can announce a voice tag and it will dial the number. On the PPC (XDAIIs) it changes the icon of just headphones next to the start menu to headphones with audio coming out. Any ideas what this does? seems to create a connection to the decice, but still does not pick up audio from the BT mic!! One last thing is, on normal mobiles the HS picks up button presses etc, throught the BT speaker. No it doesn't even do that with PPC WM2003SE!!!
So in short the unit is pretty useless apart from answering calls by tapping the button on the headset. Kind of defeats the idea of a Btooth headset. Surely you would want to dial out using its built in mic? Am i just been stupid here, or should any of the above work?
Any workarounds or software that will work with BT Headsets? If not does anyone want to buy this from me for a fair price??? I mean what is the point? Can people tell me there postive uses please, or explain what im doing wrong!!! Surely if a crappy £50 mobile can utilize the features a £250 ppc should be able to, i mean come on!!
Anyone? I'm sure someone out there knows a little more about this than me? Im after some info!!!
I guess the answer is to buy the one designed for the device from O2?
As far as i know from the research i have done, it doesn't matter what h/set you have got!!
Matt
You are unfortunately right that ypu cannot control Microsoft Voice or therefore autodial with ANY headset at present. This is apparently due to the Widcomm Stack implementation (They haven't coded that part yet!).
Most users will also have difficulty with (System) sounds from the IIs presented on the headset. I believe that the new High Quality Stereo Stack has now been implemented but works with only a few headsets.
Where can the new stack be found from? or is it the 3900 stack?
I was led to believe it is in the 3900 stack but there was a CAB file floating around a while back for it (Never tried it myself so can't be of much more help I'm afraid!)
Thanks bebbo, anyone got further information on this problem at all?> I would like to get to the bottom of it, as their are hundreds of these kinda posts around all with no definative answer....Come on lets solve this and put an end to peoples suffering..... (MINE TOO!! )
Anyway, please post any information you know!!
At this time there are NO headsets that provide this function that I am aware of. If you highlight a contact, you can push and hold the headset button until it beeps and it will dial that contact.I was considering switching to the Nokia 9500, but it does not have that function either.
Maybe in the future, but not right now........Later

Folks,
I've been using this one on HD Jabra BT3030 Stereo. My HD2 is on its way and should be here wednesday the lastest but what I can say is that this one is really amazing. It is able to give you control over volume up/down, music rewind/forward and next/previous function of the HTC player. Having that you will never need to take it out of the case for making calls or hearing music. On HTC its also supporting the Voice calling.
But as I said, not tested it on HD2 yet. I will give it a try and post my result here as soon as my HD2 is there.
Indeed this dog tag"-Look is something you need to like but in my opinion its an eye catcher ;-)

BT3030 is a very nice HS, but there seems to be a problem with HD2, dont know if that exists with other headsets too.

it sound great....looking forward for your feedback
how to make the hd2 play music through the bluetooth headset? i have a sony headset added as a bluetooth device with the stereo headset option ticked. also i am able to use it for phone calls but not music.
I am using the bt3030 from jabra also, but instead of the jabra earbuds,i buyed senneheiser cx300 precision, combine this with srs wow hd and do some bluetooth tweaking like verry high bitrate etc and you got some booming bass on the head with nice and clear treble, and clear mid tones....whoooo
Sony Ericsson MW600 - Both for phone and stereo bluetooth. It has a small display, dipslays caller ID for contacts, you can adjust volume (although the slider takes a little getting used too, it is much more linear than the HD2 controls), has a 2.5mm headset jack so you can replace the headset with whatever you choose. Great sound reproduction from standard headphones. Fantastic battery life. Uses micro-usb to charge, so is compatible with HTC HD2 chargers. You can pair with multiple devices. Has worked flawlessly for me. Paid $75 AUS Dollars

the volume control is easy. the manual says that you need to slide across the whole slider to activate volume then you can just slide to the desired volume. works great. highly recommend this headset. also payed about $80 aud online for it.
Hi,
Personnaly, I am using IQUA BHS-701. It is light, good balance between quality and price. Very good sound (phone and music)good bass. It is the best one for jogging according my knwoledge. It has it's own volume contrôle, overiding the HD2 one. there is mini USB slot to charge it. The disign philosophie is close to the jabra. Reception disance is good. Finally it is a 83grams headfone and it last 10 hrs music.
Motorola S9 or Jaybird work great!
Both are "waterproof". I also use WOW (free ap) - try the Jaybird first - they won't be comfortable for everyone.

HD2 and sony erricson mw600 review

Hey guys, i`ve been browsing the site for a while and thought it about time to make an original contribution. I was looking for a blue tooth headset and my searches here lead me to the MW600. quite a few people were asking about it so i thought it a good opportunity to give my review now that i have one!
from the start then, i bought this as i have a very nice pair of headphones i wanted to use with the phone, but could not be doing with cords. most bluetooth headsets have their own headphones which i get along with even less. this seemed a perfect solution to both problems.
the box it comes in is flimsy at best, indeed the plastic tab to hang the box on is completely lose, useless for hanging up in a shop.
out the box, its a lot smaller than i imagined but a bit thicker too. it comes with a charger that handily also fits the HD2 which is an added bonus and un expected!
when i paired up to the phone i was very surprised to find that the unit displayed the song info correctly. i honestly did not expect this to work outside of a sony erricson phone but it works! the next track and previous track buttons work as well, as does the play and stop buttons.
the hands free works fine as well with the person who called me not knowing i was on a hands free.
the volume control is awful, they decided to use a slider that half the time does not register me raising the volume and when it does its impossible to get the right volume setup, its either too high or too low and the slider is too imprecise to get the setting i want!
I cannot comment on the enclosed head phones as i never used them!
When i play some music through the device ( and that is of course what its for) the results are slightly dispaointing. the sound is okay, but that is about as best as i can describe it. maybe its because i am spoilt by the good quality output from the 3.5mm jack on the phone, maybe i am just used to having some EQ on (which the unit does not provide for and the phone says it cannot apply `audio booser` without somer thing being plugged in the 3.5mm jack) but the bass is there (thanks on no small part to the ehadphones rather than the unit) but the mid seems `transparent` with no real hit and the highs are annoyingly 'sparkly'. This os of course my opinion, and others may find the output perfectly fine and for comparison i also do not like the output of ipods as i find their mid lacking as well so if your happy with i pod output you maybe happy with this units output,
I have never needed to re charge the unit yet after 3 days of having it and listing to it in the morning for 2 hours and on the way home for an hour so the battery seems quite good.
I love the unit but the quality of the output means i will only really use it when i have to, prefering to use the audio jack output, i am however going to look into how the unit works as i suspect the phone is sending SBD encode audio and not the native mp3. if i can ge tthe unit to decode MP3 and the phone to send mp3 then i think we have a winner!
For reference i used CD originals encoded to lame 3.98 -V1.
just ordered mine. thanks for the review. i will also post up my opinion of the headset when it arrives. if it is as good as the include wired version, that will be good enough for me.
Hey thanks for the review as I'm getting one but you didn't speak about the radio does it work? anything else? cheers mate
Thanks for your review.
But could you edit it so that it's not so hard to read?
Spaces between a few sentences would suffice.
Thanks for the review, install WOW SRS and it should improve the sound quality via bluetooth but it will kill audio booster when plugged with the 3.5mm jack and always use WOW SRS.
Vrery nice, all working apart from Cyberon voice dialer, you can initiate Cyberon voice application by clicking the phone button on headset but can't pass voice to the phone as it doesn't recognize voice. It looks like the problem relates to cyberon not mw600.

The Miri V10 ROM is on the HTCpedia forums (I think it is V11 now, not tried it)
Just got mine, tried it and I have to say:
THE MUSIC QUALITY IS CRAP!!!!!
headphones arrived today. WOW. excellent audio and far better than oem headphones. have yet to play with it on radio etc, but so far very impressive.
I have a problem
After the end of any audio file
Lose "stereo audio" connection
and have to push the play button to reconnect "stereo audio"
and also
After the end of calls
Lose "Hands Free" connection
and have to push the Talk button to reconnect "Hands Free"
but if i received a call
"Hands Free" reconnect automatically
But there is a delay for two seconds
I do not know this is normal?
Like power autosaving!!!
this is definately not normal. mine works flawlessly. no need to reconnect ever. i would suggest checking your bluetooth settings and pairing settings again to make sure everything is correct.
I am using smartWatchM with Sony Ericsson MBW-150
I think there is a conflict between the Watch and mw600 connection
The problem is from latest windows build (23569) & (21903 )
When i go back to an old build like (23519)
There is no conflict between the Watch and mw600 connection
Waiting for a solution to this problem or update for Windows without problems
Delays
Does anyone else experience a 3-5 sec delay when the HD2 jumps 1 song/chapter forward?
My combination gives a this delay, which is especially annoying when listening to audiobooks!
I miss a few seconds of every new chapter, need to manually jump 1 chapter forward and the back again.
Does not appear when manually going forward/reverse only when HD2 is in control.

[Q] Bluetooth Headsets?

I'm currently in the market for a bluetooth headset and I'm just looking for a polling of what headsets y'all are using, how well they play with WP7, and how happy you are with it. Thanks!
i use a blueant q2 headset. The call clarity is great, easy to use, and stylish. It has the ability to be paired to mutiple headsets also. It reads back text messages very well. Streams music too.
I am using the Motorola S9 and both calls and music sound fine...
I have the Sony Ericsson MW600. I really like it because you can still use any ear buds you already have. It can still take calls and has FM radio too.
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Ericsson-Bluetooth-Stereo-Headset/dp/B003DQ1DCM
I use the jaybird JF3
Unfortunately I cannot use it to do voice command
I use a E56 Mono wireless bluetooth headset, it's suitable for all bluetooth-enabled mobile phones and you can handle incoming and outgoing calls, listen to music and adjust the volume conveniently.
Jawbone Era... it's fantastic. What I like most is the tap to answer/hang up feature... shake to pair, etc. I also quite like how even when it's in my ear, I can hear everything around me - like I'm not wearing it, until I'm actually using it. Not everyone will like that, but when I'm driving I prefer to retain the use of my right ear. =)
Top 3 Headset I like
Jawbone Era
BlueAnt Q2
Sound ID 510
I used all 3 but, still looking for something with 8hrs of Talk Time
I've already posted mine here.
hi there, how about somethin like the wep870 or the hm3100? Original samsung.. will they fit a Samsung Omnia7 / Focus?
Please help me!
I had an EVO 4G an now an EVO 3D have had Plantronics 510 and 520 then went to a Jawbone Icon and washed it in my pocket. I switched to the lue Ant Q2 cause it spoke the number in your ear had an app that read back your text even though Vlingo does this Vlingo didn't work well with my 1st Evo and I loved being able to say Answer and Ignore my favorite part of the Q2. But when I hit the button and said phone command and wanted to choose Vlingo as my default and it says not supported and it doesn't work right where I can just push a button and say dial so and so so.
Anyway part of my Q2 broke but it still worked and now I lost it so I have ordered the Jawbone Era off Amazon and expect it the end of this week. I hope I like it. Tap sounds cool but I'm going to miss just saying answer and ignore by speaking but I used that alot if I was getting my nails done and got a call. LOL! What phone do you use your ERA with and you? You seem like you really like it and I read reviews before deciding whether to reorder a Q2 or get the Era.

I'm going from a Q2 to the Era this week. I have an EVO 3D what phone do you have? The Q2 didn't do totally handsfree with my phone and once I said Phone command and chose like Vlingo to use it would say this command is not supported by your phone or something like that. I lost it and am trying the ERA. Which one do you like better? I'm gonna miss speaking and saying pair me and answer and Ignore but the speaker is worse on the EVO 3D than the 4G and i heard listening to music on the Era is great and that sound is better cause of the bigger speaker it has over the jawbone Icon which I also had before.

Tips for Xperia (v) owners with incompatible headphones

Hello all, I need to post 10 messages before being able to post one useful reply in the development part.
Having no idea what to write about, I just transform my (unpostable) answer in a useful thread where more people will find it and where i might even get useful reactions so that we all learn some things.
Ok, to the point:
When using most unofficial headphones, the telephone won't recognise the plug layout.
Depending on the rom/firmware it hasn't got the same consequences.
Sometimes there is sound coming out of the headphones and sometimes there isn't.
With the official Sony roms it wasn't a problem before (just a popup message stating the buttons unavailable) but I had the no sound problem on my V after updating to 4.3 too.
I have an xperia v and before that I had an xperia p, an app called SoundAbout has solved problems for both models, with all kinds of headsets and every rom, both on dalvik and art, so it might work for other models too.
I found it here on xda frontpage a few years ago and it never let me down.
I'm not affiliated with the creators by the way.
We got a free licence for the pro version here ont the xda forum at the time but I lost it and the free version does just fine.
It really is very simple, you start the app and redirect media sound to the headphones.
Another thing that I discovered only last Sunday:
The disadvantage of the SoundAbout app is that the phone considers the outgoing sound as going to the phones speaker, and thus a lot of audio enhancements like headphone surround don't work, you only have the options for the speaker that will have effect.
But I'm running a new rom now, 4.4.4 neowave, the fastest and best battery by far of all roms I have tested.
This rom uses viper4android, where i found an option to lock the settings, so that it is possible to use the headphone options on the speaker sound, and thus for the headphones when used with SoundAbout.
I don't care about mic or buttons working so I have no info about that.
But the sound on my v is finally perfect with my highend headphones, after years of searching how to.
I hope this helps someone, and that it makes other people as happy as I am.
Comon peeps, more than a hundred views but not a single reply?
I don't want to make a 10 post monologue to get to the limit of being able to feedback in rom topics....
Doesn't anybody care about sound quality on his phone ?
Are people getting used to choppy badly decoded music that much?
Am I unique in carying and listening my music on my phone?
I just want to drop by and say that this works indeed for all my NeoWave users, Xperia T ones included.
So if you have any earphone issues, try this app! :good:
Thanks for dropping by
I'm glad it works on the T too.
Personally I tried almost all roms for the V that are/were available here on xda, I haven't counted but that must be more than 20 roms, not counting the updates, and SoundAbout always worked.
For my P also I tried a lot of roms and mods, and no problems encountered with SoundAbout (a lot with incompatible headphones on official roms).
It seems that it is not guaranteed that the mic and buttons work, even with the pro version that has more options, at least that is what I found reading around on the Web, but I'm quite curious about the actual pro version.
Is there anyone that has experience with the pro version ?
I have not tried the pro version, but I have another question..
Do you have any experiences concerning the trial version? Is the usage limited to a certain amount of days or does the app provide most of its features for an unlimited amount of time?
Concerning the media sound routing there is no limitation.
The free version has the following options :
Service - on(background), on(foreground) , on(auto restart), off
Media audio - let app decide, speaker, headphones, headphones (with mic)
Notification behaviour - block notification to speaker on/off
Notification behaviour - block ringtones to speaker on/off
Notification behaviour - speak caller name options
Wired headset behaviour - set detection options when plugged in
In the pro version there are
Phone call redirection settings
Extra settings for text to speach
Bluetooth behavior
Dock behaviour
So, with the free version the headphones do not work for phonecalls.
As I already don't use my headphones for calling, it does not bother me.
hat does work is the widget (1 tile) that toggles sound redirection.
That's great. So the functionality we need is not limited. :good:

What exactly does not work?
It won't autodetect some headphones but if you set service to "on, foreground" and the media audio setting to "wired headphones" ?
Isn't there any sound coming through ?
Is there maybe an app that will make my Xperia V recognise my Nokia (TV Out) RCA cable?

If the jack has a standard layout, it will work.
Not sure that it will recognise it automatically though.
