Froyo Music Streaming..etc - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now that Froyo has been officially released I was wondering when/how we can start using the features mentioned in the keynote speech. I am talking about the iTunes music streaming and installing apps from your browser. I am really excited about the music streaming that was announced but I have not really heard/seen any info on it on the xda website or other sites. Anyone have any info?

That was not announced for Froyo. Don't know what presentation you watched
Ok, but seriously, it was announced for "after froyo". That could mean Gingerbread, or it could mean app updates sometime within the next 6 months.

Why hasn't a Flash Player been developed??

All I'm looking for is a standard flash player that would play .flv, .swf and h.264 files from video channels like YouTube, Vimeo, Exposure Room, etc...
They all use a standard flash player which streams, or downloads the files so it shouldn't be that difficult to implement I would think.
The Hero rom has already shown a flash player that works, basically as a plugin to the browser, so there must be a way to port it to the other roms.
I'd like to see this too.
wait until October, which is when adobe will be releasing their flash player for the android platform. and btw the flash player on hero sucks and is utterly pointless. I believe its Flash 8 all the sites you listed req Flash 10.
I found the Hero one to be usable, but only just. The sound seems ok, but the picture is a bit stuttery. It will be interesting to see if it's really the old hardware used in the Hero that's not up to it, or whether a differnt app can do better. I hear that the beebplayer is also poor on the Hero - not tried it yet - so perhaps it's the hardware?

there is one check the market
Yeah, I had no luck what so ever trying to play video from any of the top video sharing websites, due to the fact that the player version was 8.0. I did however have great success with viewing flash-based websites (typically exported as Flash 8 or earlier for compatibility).
That is going to be an issue that the Flash player will have to contend with when it is released in October. The player will have to be updated regularly everytime a new version of Flash comes out. Hopefully Adobe will stay on top of that, or the player will become obsolete very quickly.
I hope you don't mean the Android7 Flash Player in the market?
http://www.cyrket.com/package/org.android7.flashplayer
It will play an .flv and what not, but you would have to have the file locally on your phone.
It isn't a browser-based solution where you can click on a video link and then launch the player to begin streaming, or downloading the video like you can with the YouTube player.
That is what we need, only for any website that is hosting a flash-based video. Either that, or these websites have to begin offering free downloads of the original uploaded videos.
We saw a sneak peak of what's to come with the flash-enabled Hero rom, but like we all know, that is only for version 8.
Actually, the Flash Player in Hero is so far pretty sufficient, it actually can play YouTube videos, you just have to click on the video itself and it will open in the Flash player.
However, I do agree, further development would be nice. For example, when on sites like Myspace, I would like to hear some profile music playing, it would just in total add to the whole "internet phone" concept.

the flash player on the hero rom is ok....it will be perfect one i can watch hulu bangros on my g1...lol
makes me sad...
yeah,
my friend recently got a HTC phone, don't remember which one though. it was for either sprint or verizon and he can go to facebook and play the actual apps on there like restaurant city and mouse hunt, etc. why is it that we don't have it yet?
Flash, being proprietary closed source crap, is contrary to the nature of android. Adobe has in the past been VERY slow in supporting new platforms, so quite frankly, it really should die altogether. There are plenty of open source alternatives for flash-type content that can be used instead. Instead of complaining here, you should complain to the content provider who chose to use that crap format.

if it was a winmo phone then he can do it because he was using skyfire. his phone doesnt have flash but skyfires servers do.
skyfire uses proxy servers to intercept browser requests which are then compressed and sent to skyfire enabled phones. the proxy server technology has the smarts to take flash video/games, java and other desktop class features that normally slow down mobile browsers dramatically, if those features are even supported, and render them correctly, truly giving mobile users flash.
The one on hero is pretty good, you can play games on sites and stuff, but looking forward to 10 coming out

Spotify, oh were art thou ?

So, Spotify gets approved for iPhone.
Well, we first saw the Android version months ago.
So Spotify, where is our version ?????
I can only hope that it will get released at same time as the iphone one.
Then we can gloat over iphone users by showing it running in the background as we do other things on our phones
I'd actually consider paying for the premium service to use this so I hope they sort it out soon.
I'm afraid most of the world seems to whore itself in front of the ToyPhone before any other.
Don't forget 'our' version was not an official one... and SpottyFly decided to support the herding Apple followers 1st.
And even FaceBook have done the same... where the hell is our native FB app ?

Take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ALGPknOsiU
It's the demo of the OFFICIAl Spotify app, from over 3 months ago
I want it now !
Ah, sorry I thought the recent app that required a premium membership was a third party one not an official one. Apols.
I'm pretty sure all mobile versions, official or not, will require a premium account. At least at first.
A Spotify app would be good but I'm quite happy with Last.fm
I've got a premium account and Droidify (google for the apk, it's not on the market) works quite decently, even if some songs just doesn't play (have yet to figure out why, maybe they just aren't available for mobile) and sometimes it force closes.

Onlive Viewer App available! Works on Nook Color

Get the app there. It's pretty cool for spectating.
The PLAYER app is going to release later this year in the late summer or fall according to Onlive.
Can't wait for that!

Wow...thanks for the link...works perfectly...awesome how the newest things going for Android I always seem to find thru my Nook, and I usually get more things running on that, before my EVO...(Netflix for example....running for 3 weeks on my Nook before I got the Evo version figured out....Anyway, I'm sure that there's a workaround without waiting for a player .apk to be released....If the client is any Windows or Mac, as it says on their homepage, I suspect using a browser with the Nook in full desktop mode (like Maxthon for tablets) and a hacked version of Flash (like the ones that popped up when Netflix first arrived, which of course I made copies of, lol) would be perfectly sufficient..I'll give it a shot later tonight after work...post any results if anyone else gets further with this, please....Thanks again...

very cool, works perfectly ty
Some notes on the Onlive viewer app
Onlive uses at least two different quality streams.
Spectating (which is all you can do right now) uses a low quality stream. When you are playing a game, you get connected to a high quality stream where game look near local.
The Onlive player app will release this summer or fall and will be compatible with a universal wireless controller that will be compatible with most tablets and phones.
There is at least one game coming out for Onlive that will have exclusive tablet controls in addition to standard controls. The game is called From Dust and was shown at E3.
Also a browser with a 10Gbps connection will be on Onlive this summer or fall too.

Will being an ICS early adopter be more of a headache than a blessing?

So let's say official ICS has come to the Note.
Sure, the Note is snappier. The most basic functions work -- calls, texting, taking pictures, surfing the web. I suppose the browser will support Flash. There had better be stock music and movie players at least. FM radio?
And I'm expecting Samsung software will have been updated - email, S Memo, S Planner, Samsung Apps and Media Hub (who uses those anyway?). Will Samsung's photo and movie editor work?
But the real question is, what about ALL those other apps we use on a daily basis?
Productivity -- will Docs to Go, Skitch, Evernote, and other 3rd party calendar/email apps? Yahoo and Gmail? Alarms? Navigation?
Google products -- Google Earth, Google Sky Map, Google Maps, goggles, Places/Latitude, Youtube. I'd expect all Google products to have polished ICS versions, including Search and Voice actions...
Games -- I'm sure the Angry Birds, Words with Friends, and dozens of other popular gaming apps will have ICS versions. But what about HD games? Will MC3, Riptide/Shinerunner, Asphalt6, Shadowgun, Nova, etc. have versions? Probably not. How can Gameloft finally release Order and Chaos HD for the Note on Gingerbread, what about Note on ICS?
S Pen apps -- Omnisketch, Zen brush, Hello Chalk/Pencil/Crayon
Music and media apps -- most likely many music player apps will have ICS versions (Pandora, Last FM, TuneIn radio, PowerAmp,), but what of other custom musician apps. Caustic, Jasuto, RD3, Uloops? The Equalizer Apps many of us use to compensate for the Note's audio...
Then there's Netflix, Ebay, Amazon store, ES file explorer, Astro. Go Launcher and other launchers, Personal Assistant (Android's Siri), Skype, Whatsapp.
E-readers. Will our e-books library be preserved?
THE LIST IS ENDLESS.
Will being an ICS early adopter be more of a headache than a blessing?
Put it this way, will all the things that you do daily with your Note be possible on ICS?
Probably not.
Can you do without the ones that won't work with ICS?
Will we be able to choose NOT to upgrade, or to upgrade later, after everyone else tests the waters first?
Whenever ICS gets released for note almost all apps will be ICS compatible. You won't be an early adopter people who bought the Galaxy Nexus have that privilege.
I have ICS on my Desire HD and only maybe two apps that I deem essential did not work at first, they have both since been upgraded
You will also be able to decline the update should you wish, but I don't understand why anyone would.
It's not there yet unless you can handle some lag like when we first got the notes. Also Touchwiz must go. Why ruin a awesome looking gui with that!
I have been running ICS CM9 on a Nook for a month. I've not had any problems with apps except a hiccup with calendar syncing. I use it mainly as an ereader so have not used a lot of productivity apps but do not expect aprblem.

Cool, that's good to hear then that most apps work with ICS. After my rant, I stepped back and thought about it, and realized that there doesn't seem to be an app uproar for the Nexus world.
I know Caustic and a few other custom apps I have probably wont be ICS friendly, but it's good to hear that the majority of normal apps work fine.
Crisis averted. We now resume to our regularly scheduled program...
The nexus has been out since November. Do you really think none of these apps work on ICS?
Edit: sorry, just saw your realization up there ^

Any Hope of more (Official) Content?

I'd like to start a thread for news/rumors of more officially supported services.
Not casting web-pages, or demo Apps/Hacks, but Official Apps from other services that support Chromecast.
Any hope?
well hulu and pandora is confirmed, but the main problem right now is the SDK isn't complete (they have a preview one out though).
Once the SDK is done we will start seeing a lot of content I bet.
I am looking forward to bitcasa support. That will be awesome.

I hope so - I think this is the first step of moving away from Broadcast TV for TV entertainment. This is the revolution that Apple had planned to do but didn't. When people do reviews of the Cast I think they miss the largest point. Controlling the content using an interface we all love (phone or tablet) is a giant step forward. Using the built in smart features of a TV or DVD to search for a YouTube video is a terrible experience. You need a link to find most things and those are shared in communication links in your phone.

Ya i thought that is what you were talking about, what else the chromecast will be able to do. Its confirmed it will be able to use hulu and pandora should be comming kinda soon. And HBO, Vimeo, Redbox Instant, Vevo (?), Devour (?), Blip (?) (maybe these are britsh or something, i've never heard of them), have all mentioned they are planning on it.
(where I got the information)

So ya in total we have
right now
youtube
netflix
google play music
google play video
soon
hulu
pandora
HBO go
announced support
Vimeo
Redbox Instant
Vevo
Devour
Blip
plus soon we get the official sdk and we will get 100s of apps I bet
Hulu said they were interested in adding it some day. I wouldn't be expecting it anytime soon. The only real partner besides Netflix announced at launch was Pandora. My guess is Pandora will release an update about the same time the final SDK is released. Google is probably working with Pandora as sort of a beta test of the SDK.
