A friend got a Dream Rogers:
DREAM PVT 32B SHIP S-ON d
HBOOT-1.33.0010 (DREA21000)
CPLD-4
RADIO-3.22.26.17
June 2 2009,21:33:16
Firmware: 1.5
Basebad: 62.595.20.23U_3.22.26.17
Kernel: 2.6.27-d5acf552
Build: 1.89.631.1 CL#94714 release-keys
When I boot into recovery, i see:
"Android system recovery utility", and the options to reboot, wipe and flash update.zip.
So it looks this can NOT be rooted, i'm correct? (i thought anything can be rooted with a gold card)
Even if not rooted, can i update the firmware to 1.6 or 2.1 custom roms?
Thanks.
Nothing you can do at the moment, unless you're a master of JTAG
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_Rogers_Dream_EBI1_to_CyanogenMod
keyword - 1.89.631.1
So not any way to at least update to an official 1.6?
There is no official 1.6 for Rogers dream and will never be. Google on it.

Hi, I was checking my phone versions using fastboot. In the description after PVT 32B, it says S-ON for one phone and S-OFF for another phone. Does anyone know what the S stands for?
Carrier: T-Mobile
Phone name: Google Ion
Phone version: SAPPHIRE PVT 32B DEV S-ON G
SPL/HBOOT: 1.33.3004 (SAPP30000)
Radio: 2.22.19.26I
Mod version: CyanogenMod-3.9.11.2
Recovery Image: CyanogenMod v1.4
Carrier: T-Mobile
Phone name: G1
Phone version: DREAM PVT 32B ENG S-OFF
SPL/HBOOT: 1.33.2005 (DREA10000)
Radio: 2.22.19.26I
Mod version: CyanogenMod-4.0.1
Recovery Image: CyanogenMod v1.4
Where they purchased far apart from each other, timewise?
I believe it has something to do with the signature check when trying to flash something like an SPL that it has to verify. The S-OFF i believe that was the one that was able to be flashed by Hykuros spl for the phone and the one that said S-ON wouldnt flash .. until the goldcard came out
Just figured it out. One of your phones is the Google Ion, the other is the G1. Same "brand", different "model".
maybe its the security lock ?
sim lock or something like that ?
* S-ON : Security On (does NOT write directly boot from NAND)
* S-OFF : Security Off (writes directly boot from NAND)

an intelligent first post. finally a first post that doesn't begin with and I tried one click root. thanks for the answer something i have pondered.
Thanks Dave, I only translated this stuff from one of my web pages.
I bought a black HTC Dream,it`s from Movistar (Spain) provider,it is unlocked.
I tried all the steps on this forum, i tried to downgrade to rc29,but when i press the camera+power button, appears a white background (with some android skaters down), and when it reads the Dreamimg.nbh , it says model id incorrect.
I tried to do the cupcake update(that is what i want to do) and when i go into the bootloader with home+power, hit alt+l and alt+s, an error cannot verify package.
If someone has this kind of problems and solved it,i would be very gratefull if u can help me.Thanks in advance.
In the camera+power it says:
Dream PVT 32B SHIP S-ON
Hboot-1.38.000 (drea20000)
CPLD-4
Radio-2.22.16.19

(note: i didn`t install anything on my dream, this is how it came in the package)
About phone->Model Number: HTC_Dream
Firmware Version 1.1
Baseband version 62.41s.20.13U_2.22.16.19
Kernel Version: 2.6.25-890662e5
Build number 1.56.621.4 PLAT-1.0_gms-141395 CL#19091 release-keys (from this build number i can`t figure out my software,rc29,30,or what?)
Hi. So I got my HTC branded Dream two days ago. Things are going great but I'm getting the urge to mod. I seem to read different 'facts' everywhere. Also people use EBI1 and 32A interchangably. If you guys could could just tell me if I'm on the right track or about to kill my phone...
SPL states:
Dream PVT 32B SHip s-on d
HBOOT-1.33.0010 (DREA20000)
CPLD-4
radio-3.22.20.17
So thats a 32B board with a EBI1 radio with the perfect SPL.
To get to cyanogenMod 4.2.5 from stock:
1.) Install FlashRec 1.1.3
2.) Use to flash Cyanogen 1.4.32A recovery image (cm-recovery-1.4-32A.img)
3.) Boot to recovery and Flash normal Android 1.6 Recovery Image (signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip)
4.) Flash CyanogenMod ROM (update-cm-4.2.5-signed.zip)
5.) Flash EBI1 radio port (bc-4.2.5a-ebi1-signed.zip)
Questions:
Is that right?
Will the phone will be rooted in the process?
Can I change to developer SPL .0005 safely?
Can use any theme for regular G1s?
Does this mean I have 288MB?
Thx
and....? did it work?
You have to be rooted to do all that first.
It'll work, but you'll need specific 32B/EBI kernels for the ROMS. And not all EBI patches are alike.
And no, it won't magically give you extra memory.
Can someone shade some light? I have a rooted HTC Dream from Rogers Canada showing the following information:
DREAM PVT 32B ENG S-OFF
HBOOT- 1.33.2005 (DREA21000)
CPLD-4
RADIO-3.22.26.17

Now coming to downloading Rom images should I go with the one Compatible with:
HTC Dream (32a): RogersDream, Vodafone Dream or HTC Dream (32b): T-Mobile G1 / HTC ADP1
Please note mine has 32b board.
A) there is no such thing as a 32a dream
B) the radio determines the memory layout ebi0 for 1.x and 2.x radios, ebi1 for 3.x radios, nothing else works on a dream at this point in time
C) magic32a devices where the first with the ebi1 radio/kernel so many of the ebi1 roms are called 32a (the 32a radio does allow access to the extended memory on a 32a magic, however this is impossible on 32b magic/dreams due to the lack of phyisical ram)
D) you can switch to a 2.x radio with fastboot, only thimg to note: it may not be calabrated as well for 2g networks and if you are a rogers customer you may need to call to retain your data if the online wavier fails
Note use of recovery to flash a 2.x radio will brick your phone so don't do it that way.
As for what should you install, if there is no radio or spl in the upgrade.zip it will not brick your phone, if its for the wrong radio type it will not boot.. thus you need ebi1 roms unless you use fastboot to install an ebi0 radio.

I just dusted off my Rogers Dream and I'm running exactly what you posted above on CyanogenMod 6.0.0-DS.
I noticed your signature states Ginger Yoshi now for the Dream, what did you do or instructions did you follow?
I'm trying to figure out whether or not I'm post or prior to the 911 patch. Here are some of the specs to my phone.
Rogers: Dream

Firmware: 1.5
Baseband: 62.52S.20.18U_3.22.20.17
Kernel Version:2.6.27-9af60ed4
u70000 Androix X01
Build number: 1.85.631.5 146733 CL#33863 release-keys.
So has my phone been updated to the 911 patch? If not, should I update it then root/flash? Or find a method that works to pre-patch.
Thanks a lot peoples!
