Yes, check out Lox 's thread in Android development. Or try eViLs or Leo's prepackaged ROMs.

take a look here. It's a pre-rooted, deodexed version with stock or black status bar.

You guys are the best! Thanks soooooo much!!!

This is the LOX instructions I followed :
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?p=67177#post67177
Worked perfectly for me I was running FRF50 upgraded from Cyanogen 5.0.6.
I'm Not sure if it said to do this but I flashed the no-radio version then let it completely boot so everything is 'written' or whatever causes the first boot to take longer.
I saw I lost root, no big surprise because there was were root files posted as well.
Rebooted into RA Recovery and flashed the root file.
No Wipe when going from FRF50 to this ROM, all my programs still work just like they did before.

Thanks a lot guys

need N! back to stock with OTA updats. HELP!!

I have been searching for awhile now, and just can't seem to find out what I need. I have a rooted N1 that I was running Kang-O-Roma's Latest Froyo build and Radio on it, but now need to get it back to stock with OTA updates. I flashed a the stock image that I got from the developers section, but still no updates. when the phone downloads an update it just restarts in recovery. I thought I may need to downgrade the radio, but no luck. I baught an Evo and am selling my beloved N1, but the person who baught it wants it completely stock, and able to get updates. he doesn't mind it being rooted if this is possible. Please help.

reboot the phone into bootloader then use the passimg file to return back to stock once this is done it should reboot into 2.1 then leave it alone till u see the update available or use the code to force the update then reboot and it should pop up within a few hours...
The update pops up, It downloads it, it even says what the update includes, but then when it tries to install, it restarts back into recovery mode, and doesnt' install the update. Is the update on the phone somewhere? I still have the froyo radio on the phone, because I cannot find and original Radio update Zip. Adb won't work on my new computer.
Did you get the stock recovery back in there or still using a custom one?
I loaded the stock image found in the developers section under original shipping, but it didn't downgrade the radio. I followed all of the instructions, but still, the update won't install. I have been searching and searching, but still can't come up with a solution.

no problem hope this works!
Ok, this should be my last question on this subject. under about phone it now says:
Model Number-
Nexus One
Firmware version-
2.1 update 1
Baseband version-
32.26.00.24U_4.04.00.03_2
Kernel version-
2.6.29-01117-g4bc62c2
[email protected] #1
Build number-
EPE76
As I recall EPE76 was a leaked ROM
I tried using 22607-ERD79-update-nexusone-stock-signed.zip and renaming it passimg.zip , but that didn't work. am I OK with the EPE76 build or do I need to get the ERD79 build on there to be?
A: get updates, and
B: truly be stock.
thanks again. I had no problem when I was trying cooked roms and updating radios and stuff. go figure this would be the thing to get me stuck.

I bought my Nexus One off another member here, and he was kind enough to flash back to the original ERD79 before he sent me the phone but he didn't flash the stock recovery.img. I got the update to Froyo almost immediately after I turned the phone on, but it would not install. After flashing the stock recovery.img the OTA installed just fine

[Question]rooting FRF91 with modaco's superboot for FRF91

hello guys.. i just came to know that Modaco released his superboot version for FRF91... i want to know that is anyone tested it?? coz i badly want to root my nexus... so can anyone who tried it can gv a conformation that is it working or not??? looking forward for the replies...
I already tested this weekend. Works flawlesly.
if you want to root your frf91 nexus, you could always downgrade to erd79 then root + custom recovery then install a pre-rooted version on frf91. i did the same on my vodanexus. therefore no need for frf91 superboot.

Applying custom ROM to my stock 2.2 cappy?

Hey everyone,
I am about to finally root my phone and install a custom ROM. I was looking at the unlockr website and was reviewing everything before i went ahead and mess up things. Since I have a stock 2.2 phone do i need to do that ODIN procedure at all after i root it or can i just download ROM manager and install a custom ROM through that? I was either going to do Perception or Cognition since I am a new user. But for cognition i was going to maybe wait toll 2.3 was stable because people been having problems. Thank you!

2.2 is not stock. 2.1-1 is.
as far as cognition goes, the 2.3b4-6 are pretty stable, but dont get that confused with ANDROID 2.3....they are 2.2 roms
i think you have some more reading to do

Make sure you understand how to recover when you screw the pooch. Cognition is a good place to start, read all you can on voodoo lagfix. Perception can be a bit daunting with all the voltages, kernels and such.
Good luck and welcome to XDA!!
Current Phone:
Firmware: 2.2
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number:Froyo.UCJI6
I did a little more reading... Yes i got confused with the firmware version and the build numbers and wanted to make sure if i was doing the correct procedure. I also looked into how to recover everything too so I am good if i mess up. I am going to root using one click root and download the needed apps and backup with titanium, then run ROM manager an "Flash Clockwork Mod."
I am going to go with [ROM]Cognition v2.3b6 and install that on my captivate through ROM manager.
Then I am going to look into the voodoo lagfix kernel after i successfully flashed. I just did not know if this cognition was a good rom to do or that I should wait?

Everything you want to do will not work with your version of 2. 2. You need to flash to stock prior to trying to flash any roms.
Please take the time to read and understand what it is you are doing before you ruin your phone.
- Axura made me type this
Just to re-iterate what has been said...
There is a beta of 2.2, but there is no official stock 2.2. What your phone has was the beta - many of the ROMs out there are based on this, so you may not "fix" anything by flasing to another 2.2.
I am sorry, is there a link where u can put me in the right direction to downgrade? Thank you. I just want to root my phone because having this 2.2 i have now is nothing special.

Root the phone if you are going to be flashing ROMs. It's easy enough to do, and Titanium Backup is a must have ...
Rooted my phone successfully and I am at 2.1 eclair and i have been reading up on other custom roms to install.
I was looking at Axura, perception, and cognition...but i am a big theme guy and i did not know how to go about like changing the theme for the ROM?
Do i actually install the custom rom first and then find a theme for the custom rom?

Well if you are speaking about the themes here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=760106&highlight=Minimalistic+mod+theme
They are (as the post says) all flashable through CWM, which is exactly how you flashed the Cog ROM. Do the same process but select the zip file for the theme. Installs right over the top of the ROM.

Its is a safe bet to go to stock. All ROMs here are more or less developed based on factory settings, and this is got by going back to stock ROM. Going to stock resets phone back to factory level, and erases all traces of old ROM. This also avoids any potential issues that could crop up when u flash a different ROM over an existing custom ROM.

Stock 2.3.4 flashable zip? Anyone have?

Hey,
I want to revert back to stock 2.3.4 but I want to keep root and clockwork etc, so anyone know where I can get a stock 2.3.4 flashable zip?
Right now I am on CM7 latest
Thanks
i found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061648
if i download this rom from the thread:
GRJ22 OTA (stock vanilla - odexed, unrooted):
http://www.mediafire.com/?shsmauak48b8hc4
MD5: 3B2B7B0BAAAA803365A573FC3864A150
is that the original stock 2.3.4?
anyone?........
The mediafire one is linked to a stock 2.3.4 that is deodexed that is still unrooted. If you want to read up on what deodexed means, check out this article.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-odex-and-deodex-in-android-complete-guide/
You will still need to root this ROM.
In the thread, the top link is "stock" 2.3.4 but rooted and deodexed (along with the other things he mentions in the thread).
Basically, you have two options. Use PASSIMG to get your phone back to stock and update to 2.3.4. Then, if your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash a custom recovery and flash one of the many su.zip files out there that give you root access. This will truely be a rooted stock 2.3.4 install. If you want the easier route, use the link in the thread you referenced above.
I built one about a month ago for someone who wanted the same thing, but I'm struggling to find it...
EDIT: I've just thrown something together, if you still need it? Basically, I removed the stock recovery from the GRI40 and GRJ22 updates, so that you can flash them without losing recovery. You can then flash the su zip, and you will be updated, with root...
Tested, and it works...
The OTAs were just updates (about 5mb) from previous versions so there is not stock full system zip. You would probably need to flash stock 2.3.3 then you can flash the 2.3.4 update. Now there is also a 2.3.6 update that is flashed from 2.3.4.

Danger-rat,
please can you upload it.
I currently have 2.3.3 rooted somehow :S and it keeps FC sometimes and the default music app cant read my songs... but rootexplorer can. So i want to get a clean rom see if it all works. and ofc keep recovery.
As noted in the thread, this is something I've just thrown together. It's basically the full GRI40 update, and the GRJ22 update patch with the stock recovery and recovery restore scripts removed from both- this means your custom recovery will not be over written.
Backup your apps (Titanium, or whatever)
Boot into recovery.
Make a backup of your current ROM
Do a full wipe
Flash GRI40
Flash GRJ22
Flash the su zip
Reboot
Restore your apps...

how to root i896

hey guys just grabbed this samsung galaxy s captivate from a friend whos dad found in las vegas sooo i guess its mine now, i have no plan on using it as my phone just for developement but i see that this is the rogers version (i896 while the at&t is the i897) and the forum only has it for the at&t version so im guessing they can use same root methods and use same roms correct? i see that a 2.3 update rolled out for it via kies but this one is still on 2.1 and i saw you can only root it on 2.1 and 2.2 so im staying here for now, i was guessing that superoneclick or gingerbreak could root this phone so ill try them both. one last question is there a better version of touchwiz ported to it? like galaxy s2-s3 look and feel? if now i was hopeing to get CM 10.1 on it, ccan somone point me in the right direction please?
Edit: i rooted it with z4root and was successful, i tried to get CWM on it but it seems that Rom manager dosent support andrid 2.1, and if i do get rom manager on here is there one for my i896? or do i just use the at&t cwm?

Yes, same device, different branding, better modem/radio. You can flash anything found here, and some from the Galaxy S i9000 section. As for rooting:
1. Grab a kernel for your current ROM version. I think the latest Rogers ROM is KH2, but you'll have to check on that. If you're not on it yet, grab this http://hotfile.com/dl/130585492/8ca639c/SGH-I896_RWC_I896UXKH2.rar.html (pass:sampro.pl), and flash it through Odin(I'm not sure if its included. If its not, google for it. Odin 1.83 or 1.85)
2. Flash it through Odin
3. Reboot into recovery, flash http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip
4. You now have root. Mod all you want, and proceed to flash yourself to JB 4.3, or any other version you want

Careful with flashing ROMs with bootloaders!
Bad flash may brick your phone with no DIY solution.
- Update to 2.3.3 via Kies (install correct Samsung drivers first, follow the instructions)
- Reboot to make sure all is OK
- Go to Download mode, Flash Corn kernel to get CWM (find it in attached guide, read carefully and install correct drivers)
- Reboot to make sure all is OK
- Download CM10.1.2 Stable + Gapps, copy to your Internal storage (not SD card)
- In Recovery, do Factory Reset, Clear cache, Clear Dalvik
- Flash CM10.1.2. stable + Gapps (follow the instructions in the guide, no root needed to flash custom ROM)
- Enjoy rooted Android 4.2.2

thanks for this! going to update it to gingerbread when I get home, I see that I have to flash a kernel in order to get root and CWM, this would have to be my first time so I hope I don't screw up xD I still don't quite know what kernels are even though I have been rooting/flashing for a long time. I have Hard bricked soooo many of my Samsung devices, like 2 or 3 and I wanted to cry when I bought my GS2 xD.
The good news is that Captivate is hard to brick. The only critical part is bootloaders update. Leave this task to Kies, millions of phones got updated this way (including mine). Yes, there are reports for bricked Captivate after Kies, but hope everything will go smoothly. Just follow Samsung's update instructions. Google what Kies version is recommended for Captivate update (i don't remember, sorry). To update to latest stable CyanogenMod read the guide and follow the instructions closely. You'll find inside the links to one-click Corn kernel update. Careful with Heimdall drivers, they are for a specific USB port (it is explained in the guide). Again, no root is needed for upgrade process, only CWM. CyanogenMod comes rooted. Good luck!

It's a hardware modification. No use to do it now on a 3y old phone. Just update your phone to a stable Android 4.2.2 build and go light on apps and data. Don't expect much from a single core CPU and limited RAM phone. Nobody ever expected that Captivate Android development will go so far. Use what you got and upgrade the phone when you need more muscle.

CM10.1.2 Android 4.2.2. is the latest Stable release. Don't get confused with CM10.2 Android 4.3 Beta.

Yay it worked thank you so much I'm enjoying every bit of it, one last question though xD I noticed this even without it being rooted and its doing it now, the WiFi signal on the status bar is always on the bottom two signals, this doesn't happen with my tablets, I don't see it taking a bit for stuff to load.

Different levels for each indication bar, probably. Is the WIFI working correctly? If yes, then nothing to fix here.
