Hi, I just rooted my phone and installed Darky's ROM etc. Everything went perfectly but I just did a factory reset on my phone through the settings > privacy menu. Then i turned my phone off, now it's stuck on the boot screen (the one that says:
Galaxy S
GT-I9000
Samsung
)
Anyone know what I can do to resolve this?
PS, I've tried booting into recovery and download mode,- only download mode works
Flash ressurrection with Odin, or just try reflash a kernel.
Post in right section next time !
And don't say "dead" "brick" if you have download mode, nothing is more "noob" !

Flash another ROM in Odin with re-partition. You need CSC, Modem, and ROM. The next time, factory reset/wipe, clear cache, and clear Dalvik cache before flashing to a custom ROM, not after.
Also, this is the wrong section for this.
If download mode still works, its unlikely that its ' dead'.
Probably just a corrupted filesystem or some missing file that it needs.
If youve tried everything else, the thing left to do is flash a complete firmware via either Odin or Heimdall, in download mode. That should give you a working phone again.
First, wrong section... post in the right section next tome.
Get darky resurection edition and flash with odin, then reflash darky nornal rom from cwm

follow this guide for flashing stock rom --> http://darky.ficeto.com/community/i...-stock-rom-over-darkys-rom-gt-i9000-only.486/
AND: if you can access DL mode then Recov Mode is working too. You are just doing something wrong then ... for Recov Mode you need to release all buttons when Galaxy S logo appears.

Anyway, with download mode our phone is pretty much unbrick/killable unless you flash another bootloader which is a) rare and b) not really a threat either
I think my phone is dead.... can anyone help me verify that? I've been reading all over and tried all ways to get a response, but there's none.
I pulled the battery and let it sit for several hours before inserting. - No response.
Put in my spare batte, have it plugged to charger. Also no response.
Plug to PC, PC doesn't even see the phone.
Cannot go into recover, download or boot or show any signs of life.
It was charging fine one moment (last saw about 80%) then about 10 min later, went to unplug to use.... but found the phone dead and rather warm. (not sure if that is usual since the batt was being charged)
Anyway, I flashed my phone only 1 week ago using "Insane" kernel and doing Overclock to 1200 with about -75 undervolt across the frequencies. Did I kill the phone by doing this ???
What are my chancs of getting warranty on it if the service centre manages to find out it had been flashed??
What are my options now? Any other areas to chek and try to recover?
Thanks
Well, if you can't get into download mode, there is still one more step to try before giving up. Go to ebay and search for I9000 usb jig. That might be able to force your phone into download mode. (They are cheap. Very cheap.)
If that doesn't work, there's nothing else you can do but to bring it back to a service centre.
Check out the info for the rig you mentioned. Apparently, it doesn't wotk for phones that are totally dead. i.e. no signs of life at when buttons are pressed, no lights etc.
I brought the set down the to service centre and luckily, the lady there did not ask me anything much. She just swapped out the batt to verify, plugged into USB charger to verify... then started to fill in the form for the phone to be sent in for repairs. Though she's not the repair person.... she did mentioned that all data would be lost and most likely a new board would be put in.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that'll be the case... just gimme a new PCBA w/o trying to repair the current one. Hope they don't have any diagnostic tool/fixture where they can boot from a "debug" chip (such as processor, etc) to do board level repair.... then it might just show up that I'm running a modified kernel & ROM.
They cant check, if you were runnig custom ROM. Stop worrying, mostly they do not have a choice but to replace PCB. This is my personal exp. with samsung.

I just want to post a question about GingerVolt 1.3 for my LG Revolution. I've followed all directions. I Downgraded, restored Revo-Stock. Allowed upgrades. Put CWM back on. Installed GingerVolt 1.3 and I get nothing. When I say nothing, I mean NO SIM. The phone boots and gets to the choose language part, but the SIM card never comes on. I tried other Roms and they all seem to work just dandy. I can't get this one to go. I'd rather post this in the correct thread, but I'm a new user and not allowed to post there yet. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks

Alright, just boot back into cwm and restore the back up that you should have made. When you reboot, make sure that lte/cdma is selected in network type, then flash again.
Have you tried to turn on the phone without the SIM card then reboot with it installed?
I tried both of these. Restoring the backup brings the sim back but going back to GingerVolt 1.3 takes it away again. The phone also reboots every minute or so.
Same thing happens to me so I ended up going back to stock. Try this as it worked once for me. turn phone off, hold down the down volume ket while at the same time holding the power key, don't let go, wait for the LG logo and continue to hold both keys down until you're asked "Permannetly erase User Data & Reset Setting?" push power key for yes . See if that works. It worked for me once.
When you say you upgraded did you make it to v7?

This may be where I'm lost. I downgraded to a stock rom (not sure which one atm but it was one of the suggested ones in the thread) Reloaded Revo-Stock. It did one upgrade to my phone. How do I get to this v7? Thanks for your help.
I was having the same problem but I finally found out that I didn't have gingerbread installed before flashing the rom. I followed the instructions for LGNPST to install the gingerbread tot files to get gingerbread (v7).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337386
After installing gingerbread then flashing gingervolt... all me "sim not activated" problems were gone.
That did the trick. I should of read more. Took all day to do, but everything is running now.
Thanks Everyone!
Hey everyone, after a year of not caring about any mods or hacks for my galaxy s I thought that I should get one problem out of this world.
I am talking about the constantly flashing led buttons...so I stumbled upon BLN control which needed a special kernel, so I downloaded the promoted Kernel Flasher and the .tar file of the manual site of BLN (the site i was linked to via my mobilephone when opening BLN).
That tar file was called something with odin in it (not the "update" version). I used odin back in the days I remember...anyways, while in kernel flasher i inserted that tar file...and the kernel was installed, auto-reboot and since then it restarts on loops. Loads the desktop, checks for sd cards...you can scroll around a bit...then after 8 seconds it gets black and restarts.
I am really desperate here, because my exams are coming up and due to my carelessness I have this nasty problem to solve on top of that. Arghh...
There are some appz with important information in it (like notes), a clear swipe would be the absolute last resort here.
Can I recover my old kernel (didn't backup my old one), or replace/update with a new, working one? Through the recovery menue?
If you'd be so kind to step by step explain how it should be done? and I will cease any modding, hacking after this one. -_-
It is a rooted 2.3.3 Gingerbread kernel, as far as i can remember.
Can you go to download mode ? if so flash the .tar file as pda in odin. MAKE SURE IT'S THE RIGHT KERNEL FOR YOUR DEVICE.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App. i helped? hit the thanks button. Thanks
Thanks for the tip.
This morning I played around with this bootlooping phenomenon a bit and found out, that when I immediately close any wlan or phone signal my phone works normal...just that I cannot phone anyone, or be phoned, or surf the net.
I manually did a backup of all my important files now, phew.
When using backup programs my phone resets immediately too.
Ok, long story short, I got my firmware, kernel info now, so you might be able to tell me which kernel, firmware would be appropriate for me (didn't update for a year now, so I am not on top of the news).
Kernel/file that screwed up my phone:
i9000_jvh_backlightNotification_v3.0_odin.tar
My actual Kernel Version:
2.6.35.7-i9000XWJVH-CL184813 [email protected] #51
Buildnumber:
Gingerbread.XWJVB
I am able to enter the download mode, but which . tar-file should I use in your opinion? What's a good one today?
Ah, I see the light, maybe I once again will be able to phone again.

do you want to use a Samsung stock kernel or do you wanna give a try to Cyanogenmod stable or something like that?
Last time I saw samfirmware sites I saw that 2.3.6 was avaible for Europe...
Well... that's your choice!!!
Will I be able to keep the functionality of BLN, that keeps those led-buttons at the bottom turned off?
With a Samsung Stock-Kernel you will loose the BLN-Feature. You can try flashing another Kernel which has implemented this feature too. I used the SemaphoreKernel which has this feature. (works on all GB-Roms)
If you try Cyanogenmod you will loose BLN too. But Cm has a feature called "LED-Notification" which does the same as BLN does.
So, I downloaded update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyS-signed.zip should I go on with this manual? http: //jjpda.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-to-install-cyanogenmod-71-on-i9000.html ?
Or do I have to go back from a root to apply this new one?
Which program do I use on PC, and which one on my phone again? :O
Search in Cyanogenmod wiki for i9000,you will find all the steps to follow..
You need 1st TO root the phone, than install ROM manager, install CWM, place CM7 zip on internal SD, remove SIM And ext. SD,reboot into recovery, wipe data, cache and dalvik, flash CM7 zip and reboot.
Don't forget:
-fully charge your phone before starting
-read CM7 wiki page
Hope this might help you.

Well, I did everything the wiki told me to do and here i am with a new rom.
But now my SIM-CARD isn't recognized anymore. I accidently forgot what bedo told me in his last post, and left that card inside while flashing. My bad, i guess.
But what can I do now? I re-flashed, wiped already, with no success, my sim card is still absent in cyanmod. :\

Can you post a screenshot about info of your phone with CM7?
(long press power button and select Screenshot when you are in the info menu )
Here some info for your amusement. Have fun!
Supposed we get to a solution, so I can use my phone for communication purposes again, I wanted to format the internal sd memory of my phone.
Can I just format it, then just leave the flash files on it, to reflash again?
How does that work?
Also, I flashed that googleappz package rom too after the cynomod flash, as I was supposed to by wiki manual.
But I cannot find google maps, android market etc.
I wonder if there is any connection to my initial sim card problem.
But first things first I guess...wanna do some calls :\
Thanks so far for all the good souls trying to help me!
try to flash cm7 radio .
What is the difference exactly? Includes a radio option?
Does it also have the option to turn off the led sensor buttons?
Has it an option to do phone calls too?
PS: I cannot seem to find any cyanmod radio file...hmm

O_O OMG!
Seems no SIM card detected....
Very very strange...
Like the fact that you flash GApps and you can't see market...
Did you wipe cache and Dalvik cache?
+ try this:
"Settings -> Location&Security -> Set up SIM card lock -> Lock SIM card (uncheck)"
I found that in some cases might help.

Take a look here and try with JVK if it works...
I wiped everything possible in recovery mode, flashed that ominous JVC rom, then googleappz. At least now I can shop in the android market. But the sim card still is in the land beyond imagination.
Has my sim card been...bricked?
Which other flash files do you suggest me to try out now? Or should I get me another sim card from the store?
Everything's solved! And the solution was too easy to believe...
Checked the sim card slot more deeply and found out that the sim card wasn't placed in correctly. I seem to have taken it out through the flashing process and in all the "commotion" quickly put it in wrong. Sorry for the big fuzz, everyone.
At least now I got some training with flashing.
So, should I reflash the first cyanmod again?
no you don't need to reflash the rom, cause you already flashed twice plus wiped all possible options...!
I just didn't want to ask you to check if the SIM card was insert properly,
but that would solve your issue faster...!
Enjoy CM7!
Well, I had some time to try out the performance and stability of this mod.
Games definitely are running with a some lag (also reaction time of the sensor to control your game, makes them unplayable).
I tried to uncheck the Cyanmod setting option "Dithering" and "JIT"..also put the cpu settings to "performance".
To be sure I formatted internal SD and external SD.
My phone had some problems finding my external SD, but some guy on the net told to go to Cyanmod settings, applications, use internal memory...and now I use my external SD for everything I guess?
Maybe this is because everything is in slowmo?
Maybe the firstly flashed mod was more...stable?
So, my question would be how to use my internal sd card, maybe it gets faster then?

After the forced AT&T software update, my WiFi will not turn on. I will go into WiFi settings, press the toggle button, and it will grey out and get stuck on "Turning on WiFi". I have tried wiping both caches, and I have replaced the bcmdcm.ko under system\lib\modules with bcm4330.ko, which was the one from the stock ROM. Nothing has worked and this problem persists. I am rooted and my bootloader is unlocked. Is there anything short of doing a full factory reset that can fix this problem?

Ok I've googled around alot and looked on this forum but I can't find a boot.img anywhere that isn't modified. Can you point me to the stock boot.img?
My mom has a Vivid and her phone has been doing this ever since the update was pushed down by AT&T. Since she lives 1000 miles from me, I didn't root her phone, and leaving it stock, the only thing that ended up working was a factory reset. The other thing that was happening after the update was every boot would go through the "Optimizing application 1 of x..." message like it does after the update. I get the impression that whenever she performed the mandatory AT&T update, something didn't go correctly, which is why her Wi-Fi was permanently stuck in this "Turning on Wi-Fi" state. It seems to be working perfectly now, and we no longer see the "Optimizing..." message either when the phone reboots. Now I won't have to do remote tech support when she flies back home next week

I believe I have correctly rooted the phone - I have a Super User icon and when I abd shell I get #
When I run the adb shell /data/local/flash_image recovery /data/local/yourrecoveryimage.img command I get "[1] Illegal instruction /data/local/flash_image recovery"
In several threads here I saw people saying to just use ROM Manager. I downloaded the APK, but when I tap on it I get a Parse Error.
More research... and I think the issue may be that my system version is blocking things. I found a site that had a Windows program that was supposed to push an older version to the phone (can't find the link right now) but it failed too. It ran, accessed the phone, then said it couldn't update my phone.
I'm not sure where to turn next. If there is a post or FAQ somewhere that addresses this please point me to it. If you have something for me to try, I'm ready and willing.
--edit - found the program I mentioned above. ROM Update Utility 1.0.2.10, trying to change from image version 2.3.651.2 to 2.27.651.6. I found the program here:

The phone is Sprint, but I am not connected to any carrier. I'm only using it on WiFi.
Not sure what hboot is or how to tell what my radio is.
Software Number is 2.3.651.2 as mentioned in my first post, though I guess it was buried a bit.

Thanks! That version installed. Now I just need to get to where I have WiFi to see if the rest works, but I'm very hopeful.
Thanks again.
ROM Manager 2.5 installed just fine. It grabbed a Recovery (clockwork-2.5.0.7 I believe) and installed it for me. I booted to that and installed the ROM I had on the SD card - Cyanogen 7.2.0 which seemed to go fine.
Then I had a bit of a scare. The phone rebooted and I got a Cyanogen animated logo and nothing else. No buttons did anything - I couldn't even power off. Had to pull the battery for that. Put it back in, powered on, same thing.
Booted to Recovery and it was the built in one, not Clockwork, but based on some reading I did a Wipe and after that the phone booted to Cyanogen.
Thanks for the help!
