I have been using a lot of developed roms lately after my Cyan 1.6 broke down - I think T-mobile locked it. My phone couldn't make phone call or texting.
I think T-mobile is using some method to locked all developed rom. I wiped my phone and changed the rom, it will be fine for couple of days, then same ****ing **** (no phone call and texting).
Probably only happen to me, for some reasons. My friends don't have this problem.
I want to try to use the legal rom (by that I mean the very original 1.5 rom from Google or T-mobile).
Who has it? Thanks!
It's a conspiracy, man.
Get one of your friends to try to fix it.
It's never advisable to have another person deal with your electronics but trust me, there should be nothing wrong with your device nor is T-Mobile spying on you.
You probably did something wrong, get a friend to fix it.

That doesn't make sense. There are no such things of T-Mobile locking down development Roms. Did you completely wipe everything then reflash a new ROM? If you want a bare bones stock AOSP rom then use Enomther's Official Donut ROMs.
I have been useing G1 for a long time, and I used the Cyan 1.6 for last 5 months (or 4?). I never had any problems until lately (2 weeks ago).

Are you sure there's nothing wrong with your sim card? Maybe try your friend's sim card?
On another note, please read the rules before posting, this should in the Q&A section as this is not related to android development. Report for move. I hope you figure out your problem!
So Enomther's Official Donut ROMs is the official rom for G1?
Or sorry, I never post any things here.

It would be weird if my sim card is the one has problem because once I wipe my phone (completely) and flash a new rom, it will be fine for couple of days.

Doesn't hurt to try . Do you do a complete wipe?
I cant answer you question, but i dont think t mobile locked your phone down for using other roms. back when i used to run 1.6 roms, after a few weeks/months 2 of them kind of screwed up for me too. just reflash something else.
sorry i dont have an answer on the original rom. maybe you can follow one of the guides to unroot if you want official rom/stock again. unlockr has a guide i think
Thread moved to Q&A.
just search on this thread for how to UNROOT and return to stock.. theres a whole thread on it...
BUUT... I dont see how that will fix anything... as for T-Mobile does NOT have any "lock" or anything related on your phone... upgrade to the latest AMon_RA recovery 1.7.0 - and do a COMPLETE wipe... wipe everything... re-partition your SD card.. and load a fresh rom... why not go with a 2.1 rom.. may as well.. Right now I am using HTCClay's superbad rom.. the latest one... no problems here..
The government is in on it man!
Joking LOL I couldn't resist =P

Is it stuck at the android screen or is it boot looping? And don't freak.. rooting, if you've done some research isn't too bad.
It was stuck on the android screen. But I wiped the data and installed a fresh copy of cyanogen mod.
So you got past the android logo?
Yes, now I did because I wiped everything and then installed a new copy. So far it seems to be working. Fingers crossed.
Congrats my friend! Enjoy having root.. If you're interested in running hero.. lemme know! I'm running jacx1.5r2 and it's just speedy as all get out. anyway have fun!
Thanks a lot. I have a question is it better to run the cyanogen mod or the jacx rom?
That's a question that only you have an answer for. I don't personally like the xROM but that's because I've tasted Hero and can't let it go When it comes to the different roms if you really want to know how they run, flash and test! This is going to be the best way for you to see the differences between the roms. (also check the rom's change logs. they have information about updates and whatnot)
Last question, do I need to wipe the phone clean before going to different rom or just flash the rom?
Most of the non-hero roms you can flash without wiping. But if you run into bootloops, then you'll need to wipe.
Alright, thanks a lot for the help.

If you plan on trying any Hero roms makes sure you update the new Radio and SPL. And please god make sure you do the RADIO FIRST then the SPL. If you don't do it that way you will have a $400 paperweight.
And my opinion, stick with non-Hero for now. Not saying they aren't good but I have tested all of them for a day or 2 each and even with a class 6 sd card and trying different swap values and sizes they always have some lag. If you are a casual user then I suppose you would be fine, but I have a business to run and cannot afford to miss any calls or texts. I need the web to run and be able to go home without and lag, or to get a quick email out in under a minute. Some people here say its just as fast but I have to disagree for the most part. When the dev's can get these new sets of hero rom's to be fully stable/optimized maybe I will try again but if you rely on your phone like I do then you may want to stick with cyan/xrom/jf for now.
My G1 is rooted and I have updated it to RC33. (during the process, I used HARDSPL)
1. If I plan on using a theme from Drizzy (champion V2) do I still need to do the cupcake update AND the radio update?
2. Is installing this theme as simple as renaming the .zip to "update" and dragging it to SD card. THEN, do I Alt+W, or only Alt+S when I get to restore screen?
Please help if I am way off.

If you are going to use a theme, you need to make sure the theme is intended for that specific rom. You should always update your radio, without updating it you will have BT problems and possibly dropped calls. If you have Cyanogens recovery 1.4 you don't have to rename anything to update any more cause it can flash any .zip file. And you don't have to wipe before flashing a theme.
Thanks for the help.
How do I find out which rom I have and which rom's the .zip support?
I followed a youtube tutorial from anthonymoreno24 and these are the files I used:
Recovery image & HARDSPL from:
http://koushikdutta.blurryfox.com/G1RootWalkthrough/
I will update to cupcake during lunch (I have to use friends SIM cuz I have no data plan )
--------------
EDIT:
Just found this, do I follow these instructions after I update to Cupcake?:
Download image (right-click, save as): http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/cm-recovery-1.4.img
MD5Sum: f5135a878c705215f4012786e4261cfe
To install image: copy it to your sdcard and run:
Code:
flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.4.img
If you have problems with a "no space on device" error, try using fastboot and erasing first:
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery cm-recovery-1.4.img
So have you not even loaded any rom yet? If you go to about phone under settings whats the info say?
Sorry, Im a newb, I'm literally following step by step instructions from the youtube vid

Bud, you are a long way off. Drizzy's is not a theme, it is a hero rom which I would not suggest you try since it needs the danger spl and I can see a brick happening already, download cyanogen 4.02 rom and flash that and stick with it before you consider anything else, read the sticky's at the begining of each forum here to get an idea of how android works instead of relaying on a couple month old out of date video. A lot has changed since that was made. Oh and make sure that your file you want to flash is in the root of your sdcard and not in a sub folder otherwise it won't work, biggest thing make a nandroid backup in cm-recovery 1.4

Took the words right out of my mouth.
OP: If you want to flash anything hero related you need to read read read, if you are asking questions like this, and are this confused then you shouldn't/aren't ready to go hero. Try cyanogen or jacxrom (if you want a different look, it has a nice theme built into it) and after a week or 2 of studying them give hero a shot.
Has anyone else noticed how many people have been posting sh*t like this lately? It seems like noone can read anything anymore and wants us to give them specialized instructions instead of using the GUIDE's like we all did.

Agreed. I've noticed that people are like how to I root!?!? I'm such a n00b. There is plenty of literature out there and should learn how like the rest of us did. If you need to be babied into root maybe you shouldn't have root.. or let someone else do it.
agreed
I rooted my phone a couple months ago without asking any ?s, I have still not asked a ? Yet, before I even got my phone, I studied up on it, there is a ton of info and a lot is in the stickysand has been covered countless times. Now it is even easier to root and flash your phone than ever but the problem is people are following videos and blogs that do not provide enough info. I was lucky to find xda back when I had my wing so I knew right were to go from the begining. If people just took notice to the info here they would have no problem at all

I completely agree, I too read the tutorials many times before I got my phone !
And when I got the phone, I invested almost 2 days ( around 20 hrs) to try different things (Thanks to all for providing guides to everything) and now I am running a fantastic ROM with root.
It feels much better now that instead of asking "How, Why,etc), I am writing "THANK YOU ALL" for fantastic guides and tutorials !

FYI, JACxROM requires Haykuro's SPL to run properly as well. If you're using the HardSPL, then your best choice is Cyan's 4.03 or enomther's rooted version of the stock Cupcake CRC1 build.
my bad, I guess since I flashed haykuros spl and the new radio when I first rooted I never relized you needed it for the xrom.

Yeah, actually even the devs didn't realize this until a couple of us did some experimenting. Fortunately, I had two G1s and the only difference with them were the SPLs... one worked and one didn't.
I have a non sprint unbranded HTC Hero (through GCI in alaska). Does anyone know if a non-sprint htc hero can flash a sprint rom and still work on a non sprint network? I have been using the leaked modified ROMs such as damage control and fresh just fine but I was told using the sprint one may jack up my phone. Since the customized ROMs are now being based off that I am worried about downloading any new ROMs or the official sprint one. Anyone happen to know?
THANK YOU!

This is more or less belongs in the q&a section. But to answer your question yes it will. You will have to get your apn settings and manually program them in your phone. But everything else should work. I would suggest you use the flashrec method and make a nandroid then try apn manager to see if you can just put your apn settings on your new rom
I am still new to CDMA phones. When you say APN settings do you mean the settings the carrier puts in when they program it at the desk. Such as the MIN # and such?
And when you say flash rec method, you mean copying over the ROM file to the SD card and doing the whole power+volume then pressing home and flashing from feature thing?
And if thats the case, does that mean ill have to use one of these custom ROMs here and not the sprint one? (I havent tried installing the sprint one but in the past its usually an executible and runs itself)
Thx for answering all my noob question, someone else did the rooting for my phone and im slowly learning. Never been too great at the phone thing.
I just reread your first post and you say that you've used damages rom and not had any problems then you should be good to use any rom just make sure to do a nandroid backup before you do anything else

FYI the functionality of the dialer is hard-coded into the phone, not each ROM, so if it works at all, it works. Sometimes phone and data issues can be solved by updating PRL and profile as suggested, but it sounds like your issue may have been simply your carrier at the time. If a phone can call out, it can call in, and vice versa. It may have something to do with the fact that you are flashing Sprint ROMs for a Chinese carrier, but who knows. There are a few members in these forums that are on your same chinese carrier and are running aospCMod without issue, one member in particular is called "oldghost", maybe you should PM him and see if he has had any issues, and what ROM best suits the needs of the Chinese version of the heroC. Good luck.

Yes oldghost uses a Chinese carrier and I don't think he had any issues at all. But first try updating the prl/pri
Interesting. I just realized I'm seeing similar since (I think) flashing 4/29 aosp 2.3.3. Thought I had just messed up on a setting or something. Incoming calls are going straight to voicemail. I see them almost immediately in the call log on the phone, but no ring or any other indication. The only other record of the call would be the voicemail notification after a bit.
Now, my assumption here is that I messed up on my last flash, so I'll go back and do a redo, including going back to a sense rom just in case.
I was coming from 4/21 aosp 2.3.3. Before the 4/21, I did get rid of firerats, installed fresh, updated prl (now at 60678) and profile, though I think that's been current for me for a while.
I then installed 4/21 from scratch (fr 110/4).
Radio has been current.
4/29, I just wiped caches and flashed over.
Like I said, I'm sure I just messed up at one of these points. I don't know for sure when I stopped receiving calls. I don't get a lot of them, so it took me a while for the loneliness to kick in. It IS possible that I messed up on the 4/21 even.

Try troubleshooting the problem by doing the following things one at a time to see if they work:
- Try a different radio that works for the SPRINT HERO CDMA ONLY (else you will brick your phone, if you need help finding radios let me know)
- Try without firerat's
- Try wiping everything using the latest official clockwork mod 3.0 after backing up everything
- Try s0be's kernel
- Try the official CM7 v7.0.2
i can come up with more options for you to try one by one but that should last you for about an hour or so
after doing all those let me know what happens
Actually, got this working again.
flashed aosp 2.3.3 4/29 clean, removed firerats, etc (since my next step would have been to put on a sense rom).
clean install seemed to fix the problem. Able to receive calls.
then for fun... did the full factory reset and wipe wipe wipe again, installed this time WITH firerats (100 20), bumped the cache size for the hell of it.
That worked as well. Calls being received. I think something just got hosed, or my original 4/29 install, which was just a cache wipe and flash over, didn't go so well.
Still figure it was user error on my part somewhere along the line, but all is well for me now.

My title was abit too long, cause it was copied from a reddit post I made on Cyanogenmod's reddit. R/s means "Receive or Send"
I tried going to Cyanogenmod's Reddit, asking for help with this issue, but there was no luck at all, one user did respond to me and tried to help me out, but hasn't responded for the past 3 days. Looking around for more help, I was directed here to ask. If at all, I'm doing something wrong, can you please tell me.
FYI: My Nexus 6 is using Cyanogenmod 13.0 NIGHTLY, running 6.0.1
Besides that, the reddit post is basically this:
"Please direct me in the correct area, at the moment I don't see much to go to for some help, but I felt like making post.
After a while, I've been using Bell Canada on my phone without any issues, but I never tried voicemails or calls. Recently, trying to get into my telegram account cause they won't send a SMS (For what ever reason), the app offered to call my phone, waiting for the timer to tick down before they call my phone, it just shut it's self off.
I was aware of my phone crashing due to voice mails, cause before I activated my sim card, I had a voicemail that wouldn't go away, trying to view it, the phone would crash. I was hoping this would've been fixed after a couple updates, but it doesn't seem like it was fixed at all. I can't even tell if this issue is my problem (the phone/sim card) or cyanogenmod.
If anyone knows any fixes for this, I'd be really happy, because currently my phone is useless to most things I'd use it for, other than SMS."
On the reddit post, the user that was replying to it did mention something about c-apps not being compatible with Cyanogenmod 13.0 and told me to try to uninstall it, but when I tried to uninstall it through adb, apparently such a directory doesn't exist. I do hope I can get some help here, because I'm currently on a plan with unlimited text and calls, paying alot of money for it, but one feature is completely useless.
--Something I want to add, I tried the same sim card in my HTC One M7 running Android 5.1 with Cyanogenmod 12, calls worked perfectly fine with it.
Please do correct me if I'm doing something wrong, but reading the forum rules, I don't see anything about "bumping", so... Here's my bump.
I haven't had a reply for 5 days now, the possible answer to why my topic wasn't replied to, is most likely because noone knows how to fix this or why this might be happening.
But, I do wish I could get a post or something to show that people do see this, or maybe a post telling me that my issue has a unknown fix.
Edit; I see this rule #5, but, I don't know if that applies to bumping, I don't know how else I could explain my issue. I've explained it the best I've could.
I'm on Bell, and no issues. I don't use CM or CM based Roms though, so the simple way to know if it's rom related is to flash stock, or another non CM based rom.
Other than that, not sure at else to tell you.

I do feel it might be rom related, because as I said in the post, I tried this with my HTC one m7, with cyanogenmod 12 nightly, not 13, and it worked.
I don't know any other Roms for Nexus 6 and cyanogenmod is the only one I know how to set up.

The procedure to flash any rom is nearly the same. Or use fastboot to flash a stock image.
Just do a nandroid backup before flashing another rom, to be safe. And pic an aosp rom, not cm based.

Look in the Nexus 6 Android Development and Nexus 6 Original Android Development subforums, there are tons of options available.
Read over this- [HOW-TO] The Nexus 6 All-In-One Beginner's Guide. A brief guide to clean flashing ROMs. Using TWRP, wipe everything except internal storage (system, data, cache, dalvik). Flash the ROM and then gapps package (some ROMs based on stock don't require gapps so look in the thread). There you go, you have a clean flash of a new ROM.
If you have issues with CM13, try ROMs based off of AOSP like Chroma, Pure Nexus, Dirty Unicorns, AOSiP, etc...

I'll keep this in mind for the near future then. I don't really want to flash a different rom on my phone cause of... Well, the known risks of doing so aka possibly turning your phone into a brick or losing all the data.
What I'll do is, I'll hold on abit with Cyanogenmod, see if they release any fixes and go from there, maybe even bump them about said issues to see if this is known or not.
Thank you for your help though, I'm sure I'd come back here again if I needed some help again.

You will not "brick" flashing a rom. You can have issues, sure, but that's what the nandroid backup is for.
Honestly, if you're that worried, I'd restore the stock image and not tinker with it.
But if you leave it as is, I doubt you'll fix your issue.
