Accounts & Sync Screen - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know what programs utilize the accounts & sync screen? For example, Facebook, Twitter, and Last.fm allow you to set up accounts through that screen so you can sync contacts, calendar, w/e.
I'm just curious as to what apps use that feature.

Explain all the sync options?

OK there are many setting to do with syncing - that I cleaerly dont' understand how they interact
a) Settings - Accounts & sync. Background data If this is set to disallow - then I assume nothing sync's ever?
b) If background data is enabled - then you have "auto-sync" - which seems to mea - allow the accounts listed below it - to sync automatically
c) Each account has its own sync options
d) Each account in Google mail - has its own sync options
e) each account in eMail has its own sync frequency
(why do we have gmail email and email e-mail (which I have setup for gmail anyway) with different sync settings?
How to apps with their own sync options sync? Are they over-ridden by the Background data option?
Basically I seem to be pulling down data over 3G and I don't understand why
Explanations appreciated
(confused!)

In settings those are just google sync options, plus a few others that pop up there; last.fm, facebook, probably the official twitter application.
Gmail and email are two separate applications, hens the different settings.
In a perfect world the applications would be designed to no pull data when you don't want to, but some don't.
If you don't want data then don't enter anything for your APN and that will never pull any data because that tells the internet where to get data from.

Calendar sync issues

Hi I just received my galaxy, so possible a NOOB problem.
The problem is that I have a google calendar, and on my phone it sees both the appointments I have done on the phone and the google appointments - so this is fine.
If I make a appointment via a computer at the net on the google calendar, then it will show up on the phone calendar - this is fine.
BUT if I make an appointment on the phone - it will not show up on the google calendar on the net.
It seems like the phone uses "My Calendar" which is not synced with the google calendar - so have I missed a setting somewhere?
Thanks
When you did the calender mark did you choose google calender and not the phone calender?? take a close look so u have choose that before apply the appointment/mark in the cal. when you set the day/clock under that you can choose what calender to use....I missed that too...
Ok thanks - found the setting.
Is it possible to change the behaviour, so that when you make an appointment on the phone it is by default using the google calendar and not the phone calendar?
I dont think you can set it as default..not sure. With some app maybe? I just have my Galaxy for 4 days so everything is new
Thanks, compared to me you are very experienced (had mine for 1 day)
I would also be interested in a way to change the default.
Additionally I'd like to have the automatically created birthday events appear in one of my Google calendars, not in the phone calendar. Has anybody an idea on how to do that?
It says "with Google" on the phone, if I'm selling my soul to Google, at least I'd like to do it completely and thoroughly.
I'm syncing with my Yahoo Calendars, my 2 Gmail account Calendars
also contact from those 3 accounts too, and IM from MSN, google, yahoo, tweeter, facebook
this phone is Amazing! at keeping everything in sync
just make sure on the account page your accounts are all with the Green sync circle

Can the Galaxy apps operate without a gmail account?

Annoyed I cant enter the calendar app, nor the market app without it prompting me to open a gmail account. I have no interest or need for another email address.
Currenly I sync my email and contacts through an exchange server and push,
I would like to also have my calendar visibile from Outlook.
Can I do this without gmail?
hardly... without a Gmail account, your device is not useful
it is horrible to non existent sync with outlook / exchange server
without gmail you will not be able to get Android Market the legit way
You can always just forward all emails to your normal account anyway
Btw, it is possible to survive without a gmail account, but you'll have to use another app store, and use apps like Jorte (I guess).

You cannot survive well without a gmail-account.
Make it for you, but don't use it for syncing, use it just for Market and other Google related services:
1. Setting -> Accounts and sync -> Manage accounts -> put your gmail.com-account -> Sync is off.
2. Calendar -> Settings -> Calendars -> My Calendar, all others out
3. Contacts -> Display options -> Choose contacts to display -> check Google off.
I use local Outlook syncing with Kies. OK, this is not smart, Kies and Android doesn't understand each other very well. There is nice mess with Outlook, with the PC saved file and with the phone.
I use android manager to sync with outlook. It is avaialble in 2 versions. USB mode and Wifi mode.
I like the Wifi one.
Check it out, much much better than crappy Kies.

HTC One Google Contact Sync?

Anyways, since HTC bastardized Android, I can't seem to help my technologically impaired family member living 2000 miles away with getting his contact to sync.
Could someone provide step by step instruction as to how one can get to the Google Account page where you can select things to sync, ie check boxes for Gmail, Contacts, Calender, Internet, Chrome, etc. I believe that Contacts is unchecked. Other accounts like Calender and Gmail syncs.
HTC seems to have removed Google Account page from under Settings/Accounts (or Accounts and Sync).

On mine I go to Settings > Accounts & Sync > Google > select the google account you wish to modify, then it brings up the list of items to sync. :fingers-crossed:

[Q] People and Facebook sync

I am a bit puzzled with the People (contacts app) and what I do need to sync.
I only have my regular contacts showing in my Phonebook (have hidden Twitter-FB), but I have linked those that have FB profiles with the profiles in order to have their pics showing.
In the HTC One Settings--> Account & Sync ---> Facebook, there are three options: Calendar, Contacts and Live Feed
I understand what Calendar is and I have it off but not sure about the other two.
What is Contacts about ? In order to have my contacts updating their Photos and their status do I have to turn this on?
And what is the Live Feed sync? I don't think it has to do with Blinkfeed. So then what?
Is this the "Updates" panel that exists for each of my contacts?
Any help would be appreciated.
No one?
Is it so obvious and I'm missing it?
Contacts - syncs Facebook contacts to your phone contacts (photos, email addresses, etc.)
Live feed - Add the Facebook feed to the HTC Sense Facebook widget, probably BlinkFeed, etc.

I don't think that it does to Blinkfeed as I have it off and I still get FB updates in Blinkfeed.
I also have it off for Contacts, but I've seen that when I open the People app if I wait for a small amount of time statuses are updates.
That's why I was confused.
