Vodafone UK EPF30 -> FroYo - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a Nexus One with firmware EPF30. What is the easiest and safest way to get Froyo running on this device?
I have read the stickys but just want to be certain as I don't wan to end up with a very expensive paper weight.
Am I right in thinking I can simpy unlock the bootloader and flash any froyo build onto it?
I have read the instructions on how to unlock the bootloader but still unsure how I would flash a ROM.
I am totally new to all this so apologise if I have asked a simple question.
Thanks in advance.
Lee

The sticky at the top of the N1 gen forum tells you in bold NOT TO ASK QUESTIONS.
Ask them in the Q/A section. Gen section is for news, tips only...

Help a newbie ?

I know this is probably one of the most FAQ about here, but despite this I can't find the answer with either of the two search facilities.
Using this forum, I unlocked my phone with the pay method.
I now need to flash an original ROM (or even an original looking ROM) and hopefully still keep the phone unlocked.
Can someone point me in the direction of the relevant threads ?
Thanks for the help !

You need to do a Hard SPL before ANYTHING else.
all you need can be found in the stickies in the ROM section.

ask: How To update / Flash

Hello all...
can you guys help me...
Im using Milestone [GSM]
still with original FW, Eclair 2.1 Update 1
I wanna upgrade the FW into froyo [2.2]
the question is, HOW???
thx b4 all...
Why doesn't anyone use the search function/ Google to search such an old topic :/
For Rooting and flashing vulnerable recovery:
http://androidforums.com/milestone-all-things-root/75460-milestone-2-1-update-root-guide.html
Then you can use the OpenRecovery Mod (from G.O.T) to flash 2.2.1....
OK..
Done..
Thx
IMHO this would be a good thing to put in the XDA-Developers wiki, rather than forcing newbies to search through a lot of forum threads which causes confusion. I agree that everybody should be diligent in using the search box before asking questions, but it's still not ideal. Also, sometimes things change from time to time (e.g. GOT releasing updates) and then it's even more confusing to use the forum threads as references for "how to".
I would like to work on it but am busy with a lot of other stuff at the moment...next time I install a new ROM I will try to write a step-by-step wiki article (if anyone else thinks it's a good idea?) or at least put a link in the Milestone/Droid wiki page to the relevant forum threads.

[Q] Newbie guide for Galaxy S I9000B:

First of all, hello. I am basically a very, VERY huge newbie that just bought an Samsung Galaxy S I9000B and I would like to start to understand specific terms used in this forums (for example, XXJBA ROM, rooting). Can anyone give me a starting guide about this ? I intend to update my phone to android 2.3.3 but I don't know if it's possible (it is a customized one from a Brazilian Carrier called VIVO and if possible I want to remove everything). So I don't know even where to start. Any guides, specific threads, advices, tips, anything to start ?
Thank you,
Amid
Download an app from the market called 'root and me'. It's a great guide for beginners

Okay, thanks. Let me read all those threads and guides than I will be back for more. Thank you again.
BTW, not wanting to rush things but very curious: will I be able to update my phone I9000B to Android 2.3.3 ? Will the B in the end of the model destroy my hopes ? Just a quick answer, don't need to detail it at this point.
Hello again,
I've read the suggested threads and some other material, included the root and me app information. Now I know that the first step to clean my SGS is to root it. The application don't exactly specify which method should I use: SuperOneClick or Z4root. I understand the SuperOneClick is the old method, more dangerous and Z4Root is a new app that does the job but required USB debugging or something like that. So here is the next question (this way, I will be able to create a stick for all newbies, just by tracing my steps): Which method should I use ? Repeating myself, I have a Samsung Galaxy S, Model Number: GT-I9000B, Firmware version 2.2, Vivo Carrier (from Brazil), Baseband Version I9000BBVJJPD, Build number FROYO.VJJPD.
Thank you very much again.

Hi again guys,
No answer yet ? Really ? Am I doing something wrong ? Am I in the wrong forum (I was directed to this forum from androidz.com.br) ? I've tried to find the answers searching other topics but the search function is not very useful in forums. Also, there is no sticky here to help newbies.
The reason I was asking here is because I can't find answers in other places. I don't dare to simply trial and error, which is what I normally do when I have multiple choices, because I am afraid of bricking my phone; It's not that I am lazy to look for answer in other places; I simply can't find them.
Can someone help a newbie or at least point me to an updated guide ?
Thank you very much,
Amid

[Q] Regarding flashing SGT

Can you give me a super noob step-by-step tutorial about this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902323
I'm in Asia so i think that it will benefit me if i do this. But the problem is I have no clue on how. It's just my 2nd week of having an android so i don't know anything about them. But I really need the voice as well as the 3g and HSDPA function of the tab.
Can anyone help me with this one? I will gladly appreciate it and will hit your thank you button in the process.
Go to the developement forum, find overcome rom, doesn't matter which one then you will find, at the bottom of the 1st post, a link to the overcome site that has the guide to flashing to gingerbread through ODIN. It also has links to all the files needed.
BEFORE FLASHING HOWEVER, GO HERE - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071 AND USE THE BOOTLOADER CHECK APK. It could be the difference between a brick and a successful flash...
One bit of advice, if you don't understand something, ask a question in the QA forum, NEVER in developement forum, You will be flamed and possibly reported. Make sure you read and follow steps EXACTLY or you may end up with a brick...
Cheers....
if I follow this, would i be able to have HSDPA on my galaxy tab tmobile here in asia?

New to HTC ( One )

Hello people!
Today I ordered an M7, I came from a Samsung S3 but it's faulty after 1.5 yrs. Still got 8 months of subscription left so had to buy a new phone.
I came by the HTC One series, and loved it. Design and everything is awesome. But what do you guys recommend me to do with the phone? Root it or keep it stock?
I have read through some stickies and came by things as bootloader and s-off but couldn't really find a conrete answer to what those things were. So, what are they exactly? With the S3 I had to flash a .tar file with Odin and the phone was rooted, ready for custom ROM's etc.
What do you love about your HTC One? And what advice about the phone can u forward to me?
This has been covered in numerous threads already (too many to link to), and in various forms. Almost every minute detail is covered...
Please take the time to explore this Forum, and don't forget to use search. Thanks.

This all depend what you need to do with your phone. If you don't need root, you don't have to root just for fun.

Everything you have previously used with Samsung phones (like Odin) will not be useful with HTC phones. HTC phones are really different from Samsung. This is not really harder to root HTC phones but the procedure is different.

Unlock, ROOT or S-OFF only if needed.
Make sure you understand how the phone works before tampering with it
and also that you know how to revert everything back to stock before you make some mods.
read read and read again before doing anything
refer to the FAQ in this forum (sticky thread) before asking questions. Most common issues are covered there.
and like said above by the mod, search the forum before posting, There is a ton of helpful threads here. You probably want to read all sticky threads of the General and Q&A section and have a look to the most recent threads. Use the search function before posting.
