Has anyone looked into this? What isn't working about it, outside of "not working"? I have very little kernel dev experience, and even less time, but if it's an easy-ish fix, I can look into it.
I assume the kernel dev stuff is done via the android emulator stuff, so as not to crash your device over and over and over again if you get it wrong?

Our phones don't have wifi, so wifi tethering would be impossible. USB tethering worked perfectly for me using EasyTether in Myn's Warm Donut, I couldn't get PDAnet to work. No dice with Froyo for me atm...

how on earth did you get a hero rom on the mytouch?
also, i thought that hero comes with tethering capabilities out of the box. which rom are you using, and is it as fast as 1.5 in regular use? can you use widgets?

yeah its pretty quick, and i run all the widgets, its only lagged maybe once but aside from that its fine, another problem is that txts sometimes dont come in
Which rom?
is PDAnet compatible with hero?
I use android-wifi-tether
But there's also aNetShare
I prefer android-wifi-tether because it's open source.
This app is soooooo sweeet! I no longer have to steal my neighbors signal. He has been onto me and shutting off his wifi while im downloading files.
I'm using PDAnet on my Magic, not sure if it will work on your Hero though.
PDAnet works fine. Tether WiFi also. I just cant figure out bluetooth tethering though. It seems tethering but I havent workedout pairing!
I need a Vogue user who wants to install VaniljEclair RLS9 and then add the update attached in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7511486&postcount=612
I want to now a few things before I push the changes in libhtcgeneric-ril.so to the repo.
1. Does the cell tower location changes break anything for Vogue users (I'm pretty sure cell tower location won't work on Vogues but as long as the changes doesn't break Vogue compability then the change would be OK to push)
To test this, just make sure phone calls and data traffic works.
2. Does the pin code changes work on Vogue, at least I'm pretty sure they shouldn't break anything but it would be nice to know if it works on Vogues aswell.
To test this, enable pincode security in Windows mobile (or use another phone to do it) and see if accepts your pincode in android.
If you want to try changing the pincode you propably should use a spare SIM card. It worked fine for me on my Kaiser but I guess there is a risk involved.
I could try and test this, but 1 main question:
I use Sprint network - so my vogue's do NOT have a SIM card?
Would loading this provide any useful testing?
Or does the testing require a phone with SIM card?

Testing would still be helpful, just to now it still works just as it did before the update.
OK, will try it out after I backup some of my stuff on the phone.
1 More question:
I'm currently running Incubus Release 12 Froyo with the 7/26/10 NBH file
Can I just go ahead and install Eclair?
Or do I actually need to flash an eclair NBH?
kallt_kaffe,
I'm running Froyo RLS 12 from Incubus
I saw your androidupdate.tar file only had this 1 file changed: libhtcgeneric-ril.so
I said what the hell, and just went and applied the update to Froyo RLS 12
Rebooted the phone - no issues, can still make phone calls and can still do data/internet
Is that a good enough test?
Or does Eclair specifically have to be installed on the phone?

Interesting... I didn't think Froyo would run with a libhtcgeneric-ril.so compiled for Eclair. I've tried the other way around and it left me without any data or phone connetion.
As for your previous question. You can use the froyo kernel on VaniljEclair RLS9. And if it isn't to much trouble, then please test it with eclair too even thought the Froyo test propably proves it works on Vogues.

I've been running your Vanilla Eclair full time since release 8, IMHO it is the fastest and most reliable 2.1/2.2 build out there. I will load the update and let you know if I see any issues.

Well I can confirm that the cell tower location does NOT work for me (Vogue on Verizon CDMA), which I believe was expected. I noticed no other issues with phone/data service though.

I believe he's just trying to see if the changes he made affect Vogue users at all. The changes were for cell tower location on GSM networks, and since Vogues use CDMA it won't work. He just wants to make sure that CDMA doesn't break. You shouldn't expect to see anything new, just that everything is working as it used to, and it's a good sign that it is.
Thanks everyone who has tested. I'll consider the test to be over and I'll push the new code today.
A test/stock anykernel for CM6 inc is up on rom manager under the Koush section. Please test it out and let me know how it compares. I am working on tracking down some instability issues.
Having issues with built in tethering says error. Pre 9 seems to work however after toggling wifi.
Anyone else?
Used it for a day...
I'd have to say one of the biggest downfalls was that it didn't have most features within the kernel enabled. I didn't notice any immediate problems even with the stock kernel, unless what I ran into (described below) might be involved.
When trying to initially download the new kernel via ROM Manager, I was in a location where cell was -120 dBm (basically non-existent) but I had Wifi. Wifi always seemed to take forever to link up, unless I went into settings (then it'd find the AP immediately and connect). ROM Manager basically said it couldn't do anything, despite having Wifi. I don't know enough about the inner Android workings to know if that's unrelated or not.
With the new one I noticed mainly I had very few governors to work with. TBH I only spent a day with it because I couldn't stand how often I ended up having to charge it. I don't OC so that sort of thing has never been an issue - just UC
Edit -- I should mention I'm using 2.15.00.09.01 baseband and CyanogenMod-6-09202010-NIGHTLY-Inc build. Haven't tried newer dailies yet.

At the moment, I'm using Miui but wanted to note that this is the only kernel which allows Pre-9 Wifi tether to work on Miui (in my hands, King's #1 and #2 AOSP kernels gave me errors with Wifi Tether). Thanks for providing this kernel, Koush. Will give it a try with CM and see how that goes.
I had a soft reboot last night with this new kernel while I was on facebook. 0 wifi used.
Radio 2.15.00.07
Not sure if it's the kernel or just the latest nightly, but I'm loosing my data connection quite often. Otherwise, its running great.

Funny, I'm running the test2 on Ruby as well. Been rock stable for 4hours. Practically a record for my phone on Ruby. Hope it makes it through the night.
Using the "test2" kernel.
Built in tethering works for me.
I'm running the 9/27 nightly.
No other issues so far.
P.S. I would love if internal memory was mounted properly in Windows.
Does anyone know if this new kernel is underclocked?

#2 is running at default clock.
So far looking good on test#2 for me (9.26 nightly). I just had a meeting in a location where the phone has frozen up nearly every time I was running CM 6.02 or any previous build and it worked fine. If I make it out to lunch, then back home later today without a freeze I think we may have a winner. Or at least I'll have a winner...
I grabbed the test kernel on friday night via the ROM manager, am I running the latest test, or is there a new one with the same name? In other words do I have to redo it to get the test #2 I am seeing comments about?
I am running test2 and my only issue is with wifi cutting out and erroring out when running things like streaming media in the background, but no reboots. Tt just cuts out the wifi, and resumes relatively well upon turning the screen back on. For some reason the screen being off sets off a timer that cuts out the wifi after a while. I've tested this with both Pandora and Slacker. No cut outs when running over 1x CDMA (3G doesn't work in my office) except when my signal becomes nonexistant.
..In picking out which is the best droid setup for me.
I was here months back when I setup droid on my Vogue(US Cellular) and over the course of a couple days of trying out different builds and testing, I found that Warm Doughnut was the best working one for me at the time. Unlike the Froyo build on here that I tried, doughnut's data connection worked fine (and right away) without any setup at all whereas I couldn't get it running for the life of me on Froyo.
However, I'm wanting to swap out past doughnut now to a more updated version of Android. Which would you all recommend? I've been reading some good reviews on the Gingerbread build... However, I'm worried about calls/sms/data and all of the other features... Which are working which aren't?
I'd have to have them all working (like current setup on doughnut) to make the switch, else it'll just be pointless for me.
Now I ask the same of the FroYo build on here. Before it worked fine for me, except the data functions... I couldn't get it to connect at all for the life of me.
So, I ask of you all with more experience with this phone than me. What would you suggest? What works for you? Doughnut, Froyo, or Gingerbread?
I want to get Froyo running if I can (about to put it back on and give it a go) but not having a data connection will kill the idea for me. And even better would be if I can get Gingerbread running, but only if I can get in/outgoing calls, sms, data, (gps hopefully) and bluetooth.
Thanks in advance for any/all support you guys can give me!
Superfroyo seems very stable and functional to me. I'm on Sprint. Even MMS works though you have to fiddle with it. Gingerbread's not all there yet stabilitywise.

Thanks for the reply! I felt the same when I tried it out months ago, my only issue is getting the data running... Did you have to fiddle with yours a lot to get it working? I know you're on Sprint and I'm on US Cellular, but from what I can tell the two shouldn't be that different to setup. Maybe I didn't give it enough time/work before to get data running (or maybe I was doing it wrong).
Also, I'm going to be using it from my SD card (like I have previously) for a while and make sure its solid before I think about wiping my WM6.1 off and replacing it altogether. Doughnut worked fine off of the SD card, I'm assuming Froyo will as well? Didn't give it too much time before, but when I did have it going on the SD card before I didn't notice it chugging along at all.
Another thing, do I have to use WM6.5 to get this going, or is it ok using WM6.1 like I am? Would prefer not to have to redo (and backup all that nonsense) for my 6.1 if I don't have to.
I totally wiped windows mobile and run off nand. It's snappy enough and data worked straight off. No fiddling.

The typical question is: does it work in winmo?
I recently got the lg optimus x2. It is running on 2.3.4.
Initially, the wifi connected but 3g was not recognised even though data roaming and access was enabled. However, now i cannot even connect to wifi. It keeps saying 'obtaining ip add' and then fails.
Going through various google searches I have messed around with the settings, set apn to default. Done factory reset. Disconnected, reconnected, changed sim cards, tried 2g, messed around with vpn, selected all network mode's but nothing seems to work. I have contemplated rooting the phone but doubt this will do anything?
This is extremely frustrating considering the "amazing" reviews the phone has one expects a simple tool such as wireless connection to work.
Would be grateful if anybody had any other ways to possibly resolve the issue?????
Thanks

There are two things you could do ...
1. Return the LG 2X - if that's still possible
2. Switch to a Custom ROM
Installing the first official LG update to my phone was a major setback for me as a lot of things stopped working, that worked before. But switching to a Custom ROM made me a happy man.
Have you considered trying out e.g. DjangoManouche (2.3.x) it is based on the stock ROM but has massive improvements built in.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410662
If you feel like you want the ICS experience there is NovaHD (based on CM9)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508492
The only glitch with CM9 is, that there are currently no drivers for the Tegra2 chipset released which results in lack of FullHD video recording, beside that the ROM works like a charm.
I am running NovaHD on my 2x now and not willing to go back to Gingerbread ;-)
If there is anything I can help you with, just let me know!
Cheers!

Hi,
that doesn't sound too good - did you follow any instructions installing clockworkmod?
I installed it using RomManager on the phone itself, worked like a charm.
Did you root your phone already?
I couldn't install it directly as i had no 3g/wifi (initial issue)...after i transferred the Nova Hd file into the SD, installed clockworld through PC and attempted a restart it wouldnt switch back on
Have you tried removing the battery and inserting it again? - Did you turn on the phone while pressing volume down (until the first LG logo disappears)?
This should then boot into clockwork recovery if you installed it correctly before.
