After I installed froyo, every time i use my N1 to surf the net, it get hot and lose battery charge fast. I don't know it is normal or what but with eclair, it was never like that. Maybe it is a bug but i need some suggestion, should i just wait for google officially release froyo or should i call HTC to replace the phone?
if they would even do it.... certainly does not sound normal at all.... can you just go back to 2.1 and see if it is ok?
Dude, I'm so glad you posted that, I have been worried the whole week because I am having the same problem.
I started noticing it a few days ago, but didn't think it was important because it was a specially hot day here is Spain (we reached 38ºC during the afternoon) and imagined electronics would be affected too.
However, it continued during the next days. The antenna cover (where the letters "htc" are written gets mildly warm / extremely hot for no apparent reason, although surprisingly the battery is cool when removed. Last night the phone had a temperature of 40ºC after having been idle all evening and just using the browser for ten minutes.
I also think it can be because of Froyo, since I didn't have this problem before installing it. However, if it turns out it IS a hardware problem, what would happen? Would htc repair my phone, or replace it altogether? I've never had to send a phone back for repair so I wouldn't know.
My nexus that I just bought last night gets a little warm near the bottom. If it hurts to touch it then it's "hot".
I think it's just that you're paying more attention to your phone now that you've modded it. Kinda like when you get a turbo kit installed on your car. You start paying more attention to it. You hear things you've never heard before. Wondering if the turbo kit is causing problems. When in all reality it's been making that noise before the kit you've just noticed it now. Hope that shed's some light on it.

The question is, it gets a little warm when you're doing what and after how long?
I've also considered the possibility that I'm just more aware now, but I really don't think that's the case. The phone is not boiling hot (as in, it hurts to touch it) but it's not something you would fail to notice either. If you grab it in an horizontal position, the heat definitely gives you an uncomfortable sensation.
I used to feel my phone getting hot after using the GPS for a long time, especially under the sun: but not it happens after browsing for 10 minutes at night, that's just ridiculous.
well i guess i wait until official froyo release and see what happen.
i too noticed this problem. especially the rapid battery draining during browsing jumps out to me. when idle or doing something else, battery life is normal. when the processor is intensively used, i believe the battery drains at a disproportional rate to other use.
stock 2.1 and mine gets pretty warm at the bottom of the back when using for extended period or when its charging. Been the case with most of the smartphones I have had so I just wrote it off as normal, even more normal as this is the thinest smartphone I've had. Coming from a Touch Pro2.

Yea, you just described my situation but when I turn my screen brightness to minimum, the rapid battery drain isn't so bad. The battery temperature stay around 97 to 98 F. I hope the official froyo release will fix all this.
Guys, I have installed the latest CM and the heat problem seems to have gone away. I have to keep checking but can you try and see if it works for you too?
This is an issue with Froyo. it doesn't happen with eclair. anyways i noticed it to. The only time it gets hot is when the phone is in the charger and i'm playing with the phone.
Installed serendipity 4.3 two days ago. love the look and feel. Charged it from about 40% to 100% over night. The next day I had awesome battery life. Ended my work day with 80% battery which its normally 50%. I drained it to zero when I got home by running the camera took nearly 3 hours to drain. Last night I charged it with the phone off. When I got up this morning powered it on and was only 98% nothing running about 3 hours later I look at phone. I'm at 40% I'm like wtf? It had slowed since I'm now at 27%. I plan to drain again but charge with phone on this time. Unless you guys suggest something else. Is this normal or what can I do to reconfigure the battery so it last like it did the first day.

See if this repeats. And if it does, try seeing if there was any process that was using CPU. U can use "spare parts" app to get this info.

I know I'm a newb but how can anything be running if the phone was off during charging?
The problem seems to have resolved itself. This morning by my first break nothing running I was around 94% which is a lot better than 40% yesterday after there hours. Ill report further findings after work.
Ok since I've had my Thrill, the battery sucked...HARD. Upgraded to every GB and kernel..still sucked. Went over to the Rogers kernel the day it was released. Still have is stock, just rooted.
Fast forward a few months to Monday afternoon, while on my way to a meeting and using the GPS, I noticed that my phone was near dead. Noticed that it was indeed plugged to the car charger, but not charging. tired the usb to my laptop and nothing. Decided to check the port, I smelled it and BAM!!, the smell of burnt electronics.
At this point I'm sure that the phone is history after the charge goes. After a few tries I wiggle and wiggle and was able to some how find a sweet spot at an angle to get it charging. After I got to my meeting, I left it charging at that magical angle til I got back.
Got back unplugged it, fully charged.
OK HERES THE CRAZY PART. Figured I would have to buy a new phone, so I left it in my pants pocket and just went to bed around 11pm. Got the next day, never looked at it figuring it was dead by now as usally until around 6pm Tuesday.
Amazingly the battery was not dead, but the level was still 80%!!! ...Like WTF.
On top of that, the charging works perfect now, and the damn thing is still running off a charge from Monday and its Wednesday morning. Battery level at is 60%. Wifi anf GPS on the entire time, and I''ve been using it all day.
A BLESSING FROM THE LITHIUM GODS!!!
This is very strange....
And so I have spoken it.. and so it shall be.
Cool story, bro

That is very bizarre about the battery. Great story tho. My battery life improved a lot since the upgrade to GB.
i find if i charge it with the phone on to full then turn the phone off charge for an hour wile its off it last a whole lot longer
I got my S6 Active 2 days ago, it came with around 60% battery, which of course I burned to the ground messing with the phone. I left it charging overnight (first full charge) so yesterday morning it was at 100%. I used the phone for quite a bit during the day, didn't charge it at night so this morning it was at 40% when I woke up. So, summarizing, in around 24 hours the battery went down 60% with moderate use (around 4h 30m SOT).
The weird thing happened today. For some reason, the battery has been going down much faster. In around 5h, with pretty light use, it's gone down 27%, with around 40m SOT. I haven't installed anything new, changed any significant setting, anything...
Don't get me wrong, 5h SOT is pretty good, but I'm just curious if this is something that has happened to someone else, maybe a problem with my battery, or maybe I just need to give it more charging cycles? I've attached a couple screenshots of battery usage from before starting to charge it again, and another one while charging it for a bit because I forgot to include the usage of other apps. I can see how Google Play Services is second after Screen, very close, while yesterday I believe it wasn't as close... maybe that's the problem? I'm not sure why it would do that though, like I said I haven't changed or installed anything this morning...
Thanks in advance for any input!
Use it for a few days before you freak out about how long the battery lasts. AoN

Yeah I'm aware of the need to wait a few charging cycles, it's just that I've never seen a battery behave like that. I'm not really bothered by how long it lasted, it's more about how there was such a sudden drop in its charge for no apparent reason. Thanks for the reply though
I know Samsung claims the usb port is waterproof but I am telling you right now DONT get water in that port, itll **** it up..
I was naive and thought this was the best ever....until I got water in that hole... i made a thread about it.. its beyond ****ed up we should sue for false advertisement.
Perhaps you got a defective unit? I've had mine in the pool, taken underwater pics, etc. and have no issues. Although I did let it dry out for a couple of hours before plugging it in again.
i updated my post, that may be the issue..letting it dry longer...
but im a distance runner and in the heavy rain i never had a problem, i even dunked it in the sink and it worked.. ive had this phone a month and it was great up until yesterday...however..it seems to be fine now.

I have had mine in the ocean as well as the pool almost a dozen times and haven't had any issue as of yet. I use the Qi charger so I don't think drying is an issue at all.
If you plan on it regularly getting wet, it may be worth investing in a Qi charger.
I never use the USB cable. I always use a Qi charger never had trouble after being in rivers and rain. Using USB only scratches up the phones USB port anyway lol.
i have a QI charger but never use it
So today while visiting a friend and doing a couple things on my phone the battery showed 81%. Suddenly it cut off and would not cut back on. I put it on the charger for about 20 mins and it came back on and showed 16%.
When I took it off the charger it was at 100% and I didn't use it at all between her house and mine. It's also eating battery super fast now. I'm not rooted or anything but this has me concerned. I signed up for the 1 to 1 trade but I'm worried about waiting now. Anyone else experiencing weird battery issues?
I'd be a bit concerned about that. If the battery really was at 81%, and the hardware decided the battery was dead, it really makes new wonder if this wouldn't allow it to become over charged and go "pop"..

That's exactly my concern. I just don't wanna have to take it back and get something else because until today I haven't had any problems with the phone.
Step away from the phone. Lmao. Jk. I had too.

Last night mine went from 21% to 15% instantaneously while watching YouTube. Not worried, however, it's going back when the replacements arrive.
So now I get a Samsung+ warning that my device is draining battery faster than its charging. I was using my official wireless fast charger. After noticing that the phone only got up to 30% after a hour I switched it to the wall charger that came with it. charging is still going slow. I even did a factory reset.

I'd do another factory reset and let the phone sit for a while before setting it up. Then I'd make do and exchange it ASAP! Keep a careful eye on charging temperature in the meanwhile. I'm thinking of charging mine on a baking sheet so it can't ignite anything, lol! Since you are having such unusual problems, can't be too cautious!

This happened to me exactly the same way. I had over 70% left and then all of a sudden it wouldn't turn on. I plugged it in and phone showed it was at 0%.
I've done a full reset and hasn't happened since.

So same thing today. Phone has been warm all day. Battery got down to 60% and died. I probably had about 45mins screen time
Same thing happened to me 2 days ago. I was at 60% and put it down to do some yard work and an hr later when I came back to check on it it was completely dead!
I was like wtf!!
Hope they fix this ****!!

Today my battery has lost it mind. Has died on me after roughly 4 hrs from fully charged, and not being used but for half a dozen messages. I did notice some extreme usage my Android and Google which I haven't seen these numbers this high in a long time

Mine was at 30% and turned off. I've also noticed sometimes my battery says 100% but will still have the red led charging light on,rather then green when it's fully charged. I wonder if it has something to do with the battery stats.

Might be a good idea to clear the cache as well. I do it every three days and it works wonders for me.

A week ago, I posted over in the Sprint forum about this happening with my note 7, though, as you can see, nobody cared, lol. Now that all this battery fire stuff has come out, I'm looking at my phone with a bit of suspicion.

Edit: Haha, I was looking at the screen shot from my thread and saw 4% battery. I thought my phone's battery hand tanked again and was about to drop it before it burst into flames!

Is your phone running hot? Mine is always warm and I'm getting very high cpu usage from Android system and Android IS. It didn't die outta no where today, but my battery life is horrible. Today I got 57 mins of Screen time by the time it 15% in about 7hrs and that was with battery saver on all day.

No, it actually runs very cool. I also am getting good battery life (about 5 hours sot). Actually, everything went back to normal after the bizarre battery behavior that I had one night a week ago.

Weird. Mine did it twice, battery life has been horrible and my wireless fast charger wont charge it. Says it's draining faster that it's charging. I've factory reset 3x already. Can't wait until my replacement Note comes in.

Who's to say some problem won't crop up with the new iPhone? Maybe you shouldn't rush in. I wouldn't be in this mess if it weren't for the high price and my plan to use the promotions to mitigate that. I always wait a couple of months to buy but by then the promotions would have expired. Anyways, it's done, now trying to stay positive and remember I have a Tab and SD card for my trouble.
