So today while visiting a friend and doing a couple things on my phone the battery showed 81%. Suddenly it cut off and would not cut back on. I put it on the charger for about 20 mins and it came back on and showed 16%.
When I took it off the charger it was at 100% and I didn't use it at all between her house and mine. It's also eating battery super fast now. I'm not rooted or anything but this has me concerned. I signed up for the 1 to 1 trade but I'm worried about waiting now. Anyone else experiencing weird battery issues?
I'd be a bit concerned about that. If the battery really was at 81%, and the hardware decided the battery was dead, it really makes new wonder if this wouldn't allow it to become over charged and go "pop"..

That's exactly my concern. I just don't wanna have to take it back and get something else because until today I haven't had any problems with the phone.
Step away from the phone. Lmao. Jk. I had too.

Last night mine went from 21% to 15% instantaneously while watching YouTube. Not worried, however, it's going back when the replacements arrive.
So now I get a Samsung+ warning that my device is draining battery faster than its charging. I was using my official wireless fast charger. After noticing that the phone only got up to 30% after a hour I switched it to the wall charger that came with it. charging is still going slow. I even did a factory reset.

I'd do another factory reset and let the phone sit for a while before setting it up. Then I'd make do and exchange it ASAP! Keep a careful eye on charging temperature in the meanwhile. I'm thinking of charging mine on a baking sheet so it can't ignite anything, lol! Since you are having such unusual problems, can't be too cautious!

This happened to me exactly the same way. I had over 70% left and then all of a sudden it wouldn't turn on. I plugged it in and phone showed it was at 0%.
I've done a full reset and hasn't happened since.

So same thing today. Phone has been warm all day. Battery got down to 60% and died. I probably had about 45mins screen time
Same thing happened to me 2 days ago. I was at 60% and put it down to do some yard work and an hr later when I came back to check on it it was completely dead!
I was like wtf!!
Hope they fix this ****!!

Today my battery has lost it mind. Has died on me after roughly 4 hrs from fully charged, and not being used but for half a dozen messages. I did notice some extreme usage my Android and Google which I haven't seen these numbers this high in a long time

Mine was at 30% and turned off. I've also noticed sometimes my battery says 100% but will still have the red led charging light on,rather then green when it's fully charged. I wonder if it has something to do with the battery stats.

A week ago, I posted over in the Sprint forum about this happening with my note 7, though, as you can see, nobody cared, lol. Now that all this battery fire stuff has come out, I'm looking at my phone with a bit of suspicion.

Is your phone running hot? Mine is always warm and I'm getting very high cpu usage from Android system and Android IS. It didn't die outta no where today, but my battery life is horrible. Today I got 57 mins of Screen time by the time it 15% in about 7hrs and that was with battery saver on all day.

No, it actually runs very cool. I also am getting good battery life (about 5 hours sot). Actually, everything went back to normal after the bizarre battery behavior that I had one night a week ago.

Weird. Mine did it twice, battery life has been horrible and my wireless fast charger wont charge it. Says it's draining faster that it's charging. I've factory reset 3x already. Can't wait until my replacement Note comes in.

Who's to say some problem won't crop up with the new iPhone? Maybe you shouldn't rush in. I wouldn't be in this mess if it weren't for the high price and my plan to use the promotions to mitigate that. I always wait a couple of months to buy but by then the promotions would have expired. Anyways, it's done, now trying to stay positive and remember I have a Tab and SD card for my trouble.

The other day I was trying to kill my battery, so I let a movie stream from Google Play until it died. It lasted TWO HOURS after the battery hit 1%. Yes, two hours of moving streaming on 1% of battery. See attached screenshot for proof (see the flat line at 1%).
Then, two days ago, I tested again. This time I just let it sit at 1% to see how long it would take to die. It took over 10 hours!! See other screenshot for proof.
Anybody else seeing anything similar? Clearly, when my battery says it is at 1%, it really has about 10-15% battery left.

Same here. I have a plug sitting here and the Moto X next to it and it's so routine to just plug in the GNEX, I want to do the same with the X but I don't have to.
I dont think this is necessarily a bug, I think it takes time for the OS to learn the full scope of the battery - it is always just estimating the charge. I bet after 6 months of use that 1% glitch would go away and you would see more accurate battery reporting. My phone appears to gain %'s when i leave it be after heavy use.

Yep same here, phone went from 4% to 7% yesterday when I was trying to make it last. I had turned off Mobile data at 1% battery life yesterday and my phone was dead within 25-30 minutes of being on 1%. I think everyones phone/battery is calibrated differently. With moderate use I'm down to 25-30% left after about 8-9 hours of use. Coming from my S4 I'm so used to being able to Greenify things, I can only imagine what this phone would be like with Greenify.
Same problem

My phone is having this exact problem. I get about 10-12 hours battery life down to 1% battery, then it stays on 1% for at least 10-12 more hours. Does anyone know if there is going to be a fix released for this? It messes with my head not knowing when my phone is going to die, and I don't want to charge it if it's not dead. For instance, I'm on 2d 5h 14m on battery and it's been on 1% all day. It's pretty insane. Hope they roll out a fix. Glad to know i'm not the only one with this problem.
Next time this happens log your current and voltage readings using current widget so we can see what voltage the battery reads during this flat period at 1%. Then someone could plot the discharge curve in excel. May lead to clues. Perhaps problem with the fuel gauge or battery driver in the kernel. It all depends.
I seem to remember reading that the battery meter tunes itself over the first few charges, and that for the best accuracy you need to run it all the way down then charge it to 100%. 2-3 cycles of this is what was recommended. Can't speak to the validity of it but I know after running it down the first time and seeing the 1% last nearly 2 hours with heavy game use, on the second charge 1% meant 1%.

I'm on my second cycle of running it all the way down now, so we will see after the first 2-3 times if it calibrates itself. If not, i may be bringing my phone back, or ask verizon if they are going to be releasing a fix for it.
Really take it back for that?

http://www.reddit.com/r/nexus6/comments/2nrqqe/nexus_6_shuts_off_at_about_50_percent_battery/
"I have been fighting the exact same thing for 10 days now. Tonight I finally did my 6th factory image back to stock restore. Every day it gets worse. Started of just dying fast. 2 hours screen on time at most. Then it started shutting off at 50%. Then 64%. As of right now as soon as it gets to 73% it flashes power saving mode briefly and then shuts off instantly and won't power back on until I charge it. I can charge it for 2 or 3 minutes and then it boots up and says its already charged to 85%.
At the end of my rope with this. Already initiated my RMA earlier tonight but it makes me very very sad as this has been my most favorite Android ever and I have had *tons* of them. I know they don't have any replacement devices in stock anywhere and I'm not waiting weeks for repair of my 10 day old phone. Sending it back for a refund. Might try one again a few months down the road."
Well I tried going back to my Note 3 last night but after 15 minutes I was hating it. After one last factory reset last night in a dire attempt to somehow make it work it now shuts off shortly after hitting 97% battery. Moto hasn't been very much help. They suggested I do another factory reset and see if that fixes it. They are escalating my ticket but I have to call back tomorrow during normal "Order Administration Department" business hours, although he doesn't make it sound like they have any replacements available at this time he said order admin should be able to help.
I don't think this is anything I can be fixing on my end. Sounds like either some bad batteries are made it passed QC or the Turbo Charger is destroying batteries that were on the edge of not passing QC already. Phone does get very hot when turbo charging. Either way, color me crushed. :crying:
Damn dude!
Go through with the RMA. You got a dud, no other way to cut it.
Oh... and answer your texts!
Any update on this? I am experiencing the same thing though it happened around 73%. Once the phone was off it would not turn on unless I plugged it in (displayed dead white battery image on black screen). Once I plugged in, the phone booted back up and began charging from 73%. I had the phone for over a week and today is the first time it happened.

Exact same thing. So let me ask you a question, do you charge overnight? I have for many years but I haven't at all with the Nexus 6 because the turbo charge is so fast that its always charged to 100% before I go to sleep. So since I got the N6 as soon as it hits 100% I unplug it and just set on my nightstand for the night.
Anyways, and I could be very wrong, I am wondering if it's not actually getting charged to 100% when it says it is for some reason? I finally got fed up with it last night and left if on the turbo charger overnight even though it already said it was charged 100%. Well today its been off the charger for about 8 hours and still hasn't shut down, at 84% now. Last night it was shutting off at 97% but when I would boot to bootloader it would say BATTERY: low charging.
Still waiting on Moto at this point.
I actually have a different experience. After one day, with one full charge, it shut down, stuck on google icon and only can charge it, i can log on boot-loader, make hard reset but it still not start. I made manual flash of factory image and now it works fine. Still have doubts that happened because of the battery. I put it on the table at night with 100% and wakes up with 75%
@GrandMasterB - So it's almost like the battery stats need(ed) cleared??? Hmmmm.....

Welp, I thought everything was going pretty well today after charging it overnight. Been off the charger for almost 11 hours now with 34 minutes screen on time and still running but as soon as it hit 72% it shut off. I officially give up. I do have a Choe Stadium wireless charger I ordered specifically for the Nexus 6. I've never had a wireless charger before. I used it the very first night and never had the chance to use it again because I was constantly having to Turbo Charge to keep it up and running.
Still had this happen at least 2x a day for 13 days straight until I sent it back yesterday. Got to work yesterday and pulled it out of my pocket to box up and it was dead at 81%. So I supposed the wireless charger could have cause that initial damage ( if thats what happened ) but my problem didn't get better after after I stopped wireless charging. In fact it got worse everyday.

AT&T sent me a new one with OEM box and cable/charger/booklets. Looks brand new. They told me 3-5 days to ship but it came the next day. No questions asked. Didn't even want to know what was wrong with the old one. I get a discount from work so I had to contact the AT&T Premier support.

How's the new one?
I got mine from Google on Monday and have same results - phone powers down at 50-60%, when trying to turn it on complains battery's depleted.
Attaching USB charger (not turbo one), charging for a minute and turning phone on again shows battery at 51%-62%
Interesting fact is that I am using same wireless charger - though a friend of mine is also using it and had his phone for much longer and hasn't noticed any issues like that.
Does the new phone works OK?
About a month ago while hiking I had my Mexus 6 in a zip lock hoping to keep it safe from water (I now realize how stupid that was). With ziplock in my backpack I waded through chest deep water. Later on I opened my bag and to my dismay there was water inside the zip lock. The phone was operational.
I took it home and tested it. Worked fine for the most part. However when I shut it down it would not bit back up for a day or so. And after charging it for 24+ hours it would randomly boot. Basically I couldn't let it run out of battery or it would be unresponsive for a day or two.
Somehow over time this issue was not valid anymore. My phone could now reboot normally.
A couple of days ago I noticed the phone going into shutdown claiming 0% battery even when battery was 40%. It kept galloping numerous times. Open the camera, phone shuts down showing it's out of battery. The battery saver also makes to kick in as it makes its come and the top and bottom bars turn red/orange.
This has happened more than 20 times now. I did not get the battery shutdown when phone has 80%+ battery. But it started as I dropped below that. At 48% it got so bad that after a shutdown, if I restarted phone, it would, then immediately shut down. When battery was 60%+ it would at least start back up and let me use it for a bit.
Now I know I messed up with the zip lock thing but it's there any thing I can do now? Should I try to change the battery? I have changed battery on iPhones before by myself.
Can I somehow calibrate the battery using software?
Attached are screenshots of my battery stats.
I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear this is happening, mine started doing the same thing after three months of use. I tried everything, including a trick someone posted of letting it die and charging it only using the quick charger. I use a QI charger and it was completely unacceptable to think that feature couldn't be used. So I contacted Motorola and they just did a warranty on mine and sent me a new one. I had it the next day.

What info did you have to give for warranty. I don't have original sales receipt. Thanks. I will try the same.

Hey guys, recently my phone has been turning off at around 15-20% battery remaining. Before it drop from 15% to 1% within a matter of 45 seconds and then die, but as of recently it has been turning off at 20% and then it goes into a bootloop until I plug it in again. I've a N910W8 and am on TEKXodus URv3.6R3. I can't take it in for warranty as the phone is (obviously) rooted. I've already tried the battery calibration app on Play Store and I'm going to try Poprocks rom and if that fails, I'm going to go back to stock LP and then try my luck at the Samsung Warranty Center. Any other suggestions would be great! Thanks!
I'm completely stock, never rooted. It's been dieing between 5-10% left. I think it's just lollipop.

I agree with comment above. Same thing happened to me before since updated to Lollipop

Add me to this. It'll be like at 15 then all of the sudden it dies. ****ing annoying.

Just an update guys, I reverted back to stock (A0A1) 4.4.4 and then installed FireKat V13X Canadian Edition and my battery is no longer acting up. Definitely a Lollipop issue.
same thing for me. for older phones i remember having a recovery that let me reset the battery stats. i also noticed that when i charge it after it goes from above 10% to 0% and turning off, when i charge it, it would give me the percentage before it turned off. i almost thought it was a battery issue but i see from others its not. i dont leave the phone charging for long times and dont use the phone while charging.
I've been having battery problems lately too, the OEM one gets warm and does the sudden drop thing(went from 20 to 11% in an instant the other night), and even my Anker seems to drain much faster these days on both KK & LP. Neither Wakelock detector nor Gsam can find anything wrong, so I think maybe they're both just aging and need replacing :/
My stock Tmobile Note 4 was turning off at about 60%, then when I plugged in the OEM fast charger, the phone battery display came up at 0%. I called Tmobile and they sent me a new battery, problem gone now. I don't know how old your battery is, but it can also be an indication of a battery on its way out.
I'm on 5.0.1.
I never had it shut down at such a high indicated percentage, but on LP it would consistently shut off at 2-4%.
I went back to KK and it doesn't do that anymore.
I have the same problem. Anywhere from 10-30% the battery can die in an instant. Happened a couple of times while looking at the screen - the battery drops to zero in about 3 seconds. Wont boot up again until the charger is plugged in.
In my case I don't think its the software. Was working great for months - this is something that is steadily getting worse. I only noticed because I wasn't getting the battery level warnings at 15 and 5%, which I did used to get with the lollipop OS. Have ordered a new battery, hopefully this will do the trick.
Got new batteries
Update: I bought new batteries and so far so good. I think it was just an issue with the Samsung batteries. Went with Anker this time and everything seems to be good.
Just get a new battery. I had this same problem with the n6 until I got. Refurb

Think it has something to do with kernel?
... lucky for you the battery is removable

no has nothing to do with the kernel, either its a calibration issue with your battery or you got a dud
Yes, I had the same. Bought new battery. Not yet sure if sudden drop is fixed since it now lives way longer and lasts through entire day and still has 40-50% left.
Drop will probably be fixed, too.

so im guessing is the battery for us that have this problem
Definitely a battery. With new one I drove with google navigation for 3 hours, put total over 4 hours of screen time and still couldn't get it to 0. Went to bed when it still was 10% or so.
Pretty amazing after old battery which would barely last through the day and died after 15%

Did battery replacement solve the problem for you guys? I'm having this issue for a few days now, and it can't be lollipop, I've upgraded months ago. Also, which replacement battery would be the best?
OK, this is some really weird behaviour. At 14% the "plug in your phone" warning sounds and it goes to power save mode. I rush to plug it in before it shut down. I plug it in on time, the "fast charge" message triggers. But, instead of charging, the battery goes down to 13%. 9%. I turn off the screen not to drain the power more and I wait for a few seconds. Turn on again, it's 4%. Turn off and wait some more. I turn on, and it's 1%. So I turn off again and wait, expecting it to shut down when it reaches 0%. It doesn't. I turn the screen back on again, and it's 3%. 5%. 12%. Charging normally. I don't get it why it went down to 1% before it started charging? And why the sudden power collapse only after the "battery low" message went off? It worked fine before that. If this is a battery issue, which is a hardware issue, why was it triggered by the software "battery low" message?
Guys, I just receive my Note8, and found battery completely dead out of the box, I never see this before.
However first day of use 15 hour with 4.5 SOT, Please advice.
Thanks

Since they test these batteries extensively I wouldn't be surprised if yours was accidentally left on. If you are truly worried and have a Samsung Experience store near by I would take it in and they can run a full diagnostics on it.

Maybe it just fell below the threshold for the battery, a long charge maybe all it needs.
Samsung store says that this is pretty normal and could happen, but a search for a similar problem in google, I found many reply suspect a battery problem if recieved dead out of the box.
I had a friend on some carrier I can't remember who note was dead also. I was surprised. But there was a SIM card already in it.
Ok, before the end of 14 days period, what's your recommendations to ensure that the battery is normal and does not suffer from abnormal self draining or other faults.
In mass production there's a chance not every phone is charged after testing. If you charged it and wi road fine. Ttbe the battery is fine

Use it and see whay the battery life is for you.
4.5 SOT and 15 hrs is pretty typical. You're fine.
If you have access to a Samsung Experience store, take it in and have them test the phone. That'll let you know if there's anything wrong with it.
The second charge give me 1 day usage and SOT 5h 40m, at night battery drain is 1% every hour, I think the battery is normal, Thanks for your support.
