The trackball on my nexus is always lit very dimly green. I think it happened after flash froyo radio or maybe OV kernal. Also I think it is making my battery die faster. Trackball wake and alert still work fine. Does anyone have any suggestions?
How always is always? is it green during boot, or only once it is running your rom?
If you think it may be the kernel, have you tried flashing the kernel? what about uninstalling trackball colours?
always always. Once i thought it fixed itself but my phone was completly died. I tried flashing all different kinds of roms. no luck

I tried a bunch of searching and just keep finding stuff about trackball wake, trackball colors, etc.
My problems is that my trackball will only light up on an incoming call, nothing else. Not email, text (even with Handcent), or tweets.
I was previously running CM 5.0.6, which they all worked then. Of course I updated to Froyo this weekend (Thanks Paul!!), with a full wipe. I have also reflashed Pauls new Froyo with no radio this morning with no change.
Any ideas?

OK, evidently the trackball will only light up for me when the screen is off. So try this. Download handcent, send a test notification to your phone, but don't click ok, simply shut off the screen and see if the trackball lights up.
Also, I don't know how some people are managing to get it to light up with the screen on, because as soon as my screen powers on the notification dissapears. I remember in Cyanogen there was an option to pulse while the screen was on, but so far I've been unable to find it in the stock FroYo build. Anybody have any suggestions?
got it all worked out now.
I had to turn off quick reply in Handcent. It was turning on the screen and therefore not allowing the trackball to light up. I just sent a text with screen off and it worked ok. I guess the "test notification" in Handcent is not 100% yet. I havent seen an option to pulse while screen was on either...dont think its there, yet.
Normally they stay lit if I have a notification. I turned the back light notification off through clockwork. Im running assonance 4.3
But I think they are helping to fuel my extra battery loss. What can I do to turn these lights off if the phone is asleep.
Check the Assonance build log, it probably has backlight notification (BLN). You'll need to turn that off if you want.
You might have a BLN app, or otherwise you'll have to do it throught Clockwork
I already stated in my original post that I had disabled the bln from clock work. Do you have any other ideas.
Despite whatever notifications I have and whatever ROM or kernel I use (even stock), the trackball won't flash. It simply lights up at random whenever I'm using the phone. I can also send an echo command to the correct directory and make the trackball light turn on or blink so I know it's working. What could possibly be wrong? It also won't come on at all if the display is off. Is that normal? I'd like to use that for notifications instead of the LED but it's no good if it only works with the screen on.
The trackball light isn't used for notifications. I think I have seen some apps for using the trackball for notification, but if not you will have to do some xml editing to use it for notifications. If the other lights come on but not the trackball it could be a problem with the rom. When porting a rom from one phone to another there has to be edits to files to make it work. If none of the lights come on, then it is because your phone deems it bright enough where you are at.
Ah alright. Out of curiosity, do you know which .xml file I'd have to edit? Or rather if it's even possible for it come on with the screen off in a Sense 2.1 rom?
is this happening to anyone else? when i get a notification, the led flashes just one time...then nothing. its not too useful if i don't happen to see the one time it flashes.
i'm kind of hoping its broken...i don't really want it if that's working as designed.
yeah that what it is doing for me also
Dunno. I gave up and installed Light Flow from the Market, so I could use multi-colored notification lights (which I miss from my Nexus 1).
Now the lights flash repeatedly, although not as quickly as I'd like.
Mine flashes more than once, about every 3 seconds
thanks for the feedback. looks like i got a bad one....
I decided to do a factory reset before bringing it in. Notification is now working normally. The only thing I did different was not auto-restore my apps.
I just set up Handcent to do fast blue flashes. It didn't flash on the text coming in, but as soon as the screen went dark, it started flashing ever three seconds.
I didn't know you could create custom colors on the flash LED. I had it flashing white for a bit.
I would like to confirm that doing a factory reset and not restoring google settings fixed my notification issue also..
blisspop crashed to a black screen that I had to hold the power button and reboot the device to fix. This happened while restoring from my adb backup. any suggestions!
a smaller problem is double tap to wake keeps turning itself off.
EDIT: just rebooted itself while restoring from backup.
this is really weird. it keeps rebooting.
Use fastboot to flash just boot.img and system.img from the zip
time to flash another rom maybe?
ok guys. I got it working. a lot of apps were not optimized to to manual reboots fixed it. I could still use help on why the heck notification lights don't come on. The LED does not come on when a notification arrives. The battery LED option works but not notifications.

is the battery notification part of the kernel? is it set to only show when its charging?
I'm not sure if the lights are part of ROM or kernal. I'm running elemental x kernal. The battery has low battery and three charging stages that worked before and after flashing elemental x. Notification led lights have never worked.

The notification LED can be part of the rom, the LED for battery can be part of the rom or the kernel.
I'm in accord with simms...time to try another rom.
#WhiteUIsMustDie, #EndDarkAppOppression
i think in this case its kernel, as elementalx does battery .
