N1 only syncs when plugged in - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, my main phone is a Desire, but I am helping my brother set up his new Nexus One. I am very familiar with the OS, but am having problems getting Gmail to sync properly. For some reason, it only seems to sync when plugged in!
This is using WiFi and 3G connections. I have checked all the obvious settings (yes, WiFi is set not to sleep)
I have both phones unplugged, and send an email to each. The Desire gets it (the LED blinks right away) while the N1 doesn't. But as soon as I plug the N1 in, and the lock screen is unlocked, the email comes in.
There has to be something I am missing here! Please let me know if you have any ideas. Using the OTA 2.2 update, and LauncherPro, if that matters. Everything else is stock, since I just did a hard reset trying to figure out the issue.
Thanks!

Can anyone confirm whether this is a bug in the 2.2 firmware?

Definitely not. Sync works just fine for me.

I have no idea how I am going to troubleshoot this.. Any ideas?

OK it seems to sync fine on 3G, but not Wifi, when the screen is off. So even though we have WiFi set to never sleep, it is sleeping anyway it seems.

Got to the bottom of Wifi problems... Yep, Definitely

Guys,
I don't know if this is actually a cure yet, but it seems to have worked on my first attempt.
First the background...
When I first got my Kaiser (UK Orange Tytn II) I was at work, I quickly enabled the wifi and all was well. When I got back home later that day I really struggled to get a connection to my access point at home. I connect to a Cisco aironet in both locations (I know there is a post about cisco extensions but I know that is not my problem as I can and have connected to both APs on at least one occasion with no problem).
After deleting wireless settings and a few soft resets I was able to connect at home. I managed to use that wifi connection all night without a problem. Getting back into the office the next day resulted in the same problems connecting to the office access point.
The AP is visible and is 'Available' but doesn't connect automatically. I tried to establish the connection manually, the phone shows the AP as 'Connecting' but shortly after goes back to 'Available'.
I've tried flashing different roms and radios but to no avail.
Last night I got to thinking that I generally connect to my AP, browse the web, sync mail etc, but I don't switch off the wifi when I am finished. I just let the phone go into standby as that shuts the wifi off anyway. So to try something different last night, I disabled wifi once I had finished.
This morning, when I got into the office, I enabled wifi and for the first time it connected immediately and I'm browsing on it just fine. This leads me to believe that there is a problem when the wifi is enabled and the phone is is standby mode for a considerable length of time and then is woken up in a totally different location.
I'll test again tonight by disabling the wifi before I leave the office and hopefully I'll get an instant connection when I get home.
Any thoughts?
I get the same thing for work and cannt connect even though it says available, and then connected.
Tried your approach but didnt work for me.

Of course that might be due to any number of factors. Have you ever been able to connect at your office?
i've had issues with my orange (uk) tytnII actually wanting to make a GPRS connection whilst connected to WiFi when i try and go online.
I connect at work using a program called Odyssey and eventually got that working yesterday, but had to turn off most other connectivity before it'd actually use the WiFi.
then I was at a pub later on with a free wifi hot spot, but that wouldn't connect despite it being 'available'
YAY!
Well...
I retested my theory. Disabled the wireless before I left the office. Got home, enabled it and I connected with no issues.
So there is a problem with having the wifi on when the phone goes into standby and it then waking up in a totally different location.
I wonder if WM6.1 addresses this. I hope so because although I have a work around, its still a pain in the a$$
I had similar problems on my Wizard... never had anything like that on my Kaiser.

No problems with it.. no missed calls, calls come through fine when I'm on HSDPA.. no wifi problems so far.

Thanks, I might give that a go when I get a chance.
My problem is similiar. If I connect to a certain access point, it will stop working after a minute or so and then not be able connect to that access point or any other one, they are just listed as available. Strange...
Firstly set your wifi power to max.
Secondly, my orange Tytn2 (now dutty v3'd) has never had that problem.
I leave navizon on a lot of the time and thus enter and leave wifi zones frequently with wifi on and my device connects fine to the regular ones I use.
Wi-fi connection
Hi unwired,
I've been surfing this site, but unable to find an answer yet, a newbie that I am. Is there a way to define one network as default? Anytime I want to connect, I have to do it manually, and define settins, rather than just switch it on, connect automatically and fire away. This is how it works on my laptop, or I have to high expectations from the Kaiser?
Thanks in advance.

This is nothing to do with power settings, or at least not for me or several other people I have spoken to. Its generally not a problem when the wifi is on, its after the device has gone into suspend.
I'll bet my bottom dollar that if I set the reg hack so the wifi is always on I wont have this problem but I can't deal with the battery drain.
Just this morning I was connected to my office wifi, went for lunch without switching off the wifi first and when I got back I was longer able to connect to the same access point.
I then deleted the settings for the access point, soft reset and I'm connected again (even if I switch to low power).
To say that this pi$$es me off is an understatement, what kind of wireless device cant handle waking up in a different location to the one it went to sleep in!?

I have had similar problems. I get disco'ed from my AP at home and it won't let me re-connect. Jut keeps asking for the WPA2 key.
I use the same remedy as you. Turn off Wifi Before walking out of range. No amount of Softreset's fix it for me.
Although, some ROM's work better than others. ie Alex's WM6 ROM would not connect at all, the ROM / Radio in my sig are perfect so far.
P.S. This might also be tied to my router, cause a router reset fixes it for me. But i doubt work will let you try that

Yeah I'm really hoping that this is fixed in WM6.1 which, if your experience is anything to go by, might well be the case. I really wanted to wait for the official 6.1, but I feel a flash of Duttys 6.1 coming on real soon.

AT&T Nexus cannot stay connected on Cell Data Connection...

This morning my phone was working perfectly fine, steaming pandora and everything. I put it in my pocket for a while, and in the afternoon when I took it out, I have 5 bars of signal, but no data connection. The E or 3G icon just doesn't show up. I go to *#*#INFO#*#* then phone information, and find out that the data connection is turned off. So I press menu, and then "enable data connection." The 3G icon pops back up, but within 2 seconds, it disappears again. Then I try my SIM card in an old, phone, everything works perfectly, I try another AT&T SIM card in my Nexus, but same connection issue. Anyone else having this problem, or any fixed known?
Did you check your APN settings?
Yeah, APN setting are the same as this morning, and I made then to match the APN settings on the old phone that did work. I'm using the wap.cingular, settings...

Really? I guess I'll wait a little bit, and see how it turns out. I can't understand why the data connection works perfectly with my SIM card in another phone though....
I'm experiencing this right now too. I just use WiFI until it goes away.
Occasionally for work I have to use my Kaiser, and everytime this has happened, its been when I've switched SIM cards back and forth...
I have experienced this issue since installing the latest FroYo build. I find it usually starts when I turn on wifi and there is no wifi around. After that it just seems to kill the data connection. I moved back to Cyanogen since not having a data connection makes me very sad.
I've experiencing this since FRF83. I updated to FRF85B today and we'll see if this still happens. Although I think our cell tower might be screwy because my gf's Motorola Cliq running Android 1.6 or something, will experience the same thing.
Yesterday, while running FRF83 on my N1... her's was working fine and my neighbors N1 running FRF50 was working too. I couldn't get EDGE or 3G on Tmobile. A reboot fixed it so maybe it was a fluke. We'll see as time goes on.
I'm experiencing the same problem here.
data connection connects for a couple of seconds and disconnects, and also my Wifi gives me error. So i'm far a way from the internet
Do you guys use switch pro widget? I had the same thing happen to me today and I narrowed it down to the update for switch pro widget from this morning. Either uninstall it if you do have it or set one of your seven options to data and make sure it is turned on. I was flippin' out trying to figure out wtf happened to my phone! If you don't use switch pro, then good luck!

Google talk signs out

I am on vacation and find myself communicating more with google talk but I always find I go offline or signs out. I am on 3g here but have had this problem when on home wifi and have always hated this but didn't mind it much. Now it really bugs me. Does anyone know why this happens? I'm on stock 2.2 w/ frf91.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
i am still having major problems with google talk even from going to cm5x to stock froyo to cm6x. does anyone know what is up with it or any sort of fix to try?
I think it perhaps has something to do with the switching network types... It happens to me too. I had to resync Google to get it to sign me back in.
The same has started happening to me, I suspect when it loses both WiFi and Cellular. But I know that used to happen and it always logged me back in. The worst part is that it gives me no indication that it has logged out.

Internet not working all a sudden....

Ok this is really pissin me off... the Internet on my phone just all a sudden stopped working. It won't load anything. I've messed around with the apns to get my mms working, i get mms fine but still can not receive them... can anyone help me on that? So back to the point on why I'm here, i use my phones hotspot to play my xbox online sometimes just to show off lol.. yesterday I played on it fine, and after I had played, I messed round with the apns.. today when I tried to play online, it wouldn't connect. I was like wtf... it kept saying that my Internet has failed even tho my 3g is boomin... so after a lot of yelling and pulling the battery out and turning off and on the xbox, i decided to check the Internet on my phone.... well I happened to find that its not working either... I don't know what I did to see screw this up, but I'm ticked.

"yesterday I played on it fine, and after I had played, I messed round with the apns.. "
Define messed around with the apns (when everything was working properly)? I assume you changed some settings with your apns and messed something up.
What ROM are you using? Stock? Custom?
Yea I changed the settings around... and its stock froyo frf91
Well. Nothing else to do than checking if your APN settings are correct then.
Find your carrier here:
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/wiki/APNlist
And see if something is needs corrected.
I had this problem once. I was at the gym using Pandora, and all of a sudden it stopped. The 3G icon was only showing the arrow pointing to the device lit up, not the one going away. (which is outboud I think?).
Anyway, I turned on airplane mode, and turned it off, and it fixed the service problem.
Haven't had it since. I think it may have been a problem with a kernel I was using.
Ok great, ill try both options... thanks guys Thanks a lot
Having the same issue, web pages won't load . Apn settings are fine, just can't load a web page. Using kang o rama, oc. Flashed another rom seemed like same issue, emother rom. Tried reboot, airplane mode, etc and no luck. Is it the radio ? Or kernel? Download dolphin browser ?

fixed.....
have alittle searching, it was the apn settings for me. Not sure why this is though, I had it set up like this before and it worked perfectly fine.
Name cbw internet
apn... wap.gocbw.com
proxy...216.68.79.202
port 80
these were my orginal settings when I first started with the n1, these worked fine, no issues what so ever till update to froyo 91 or so. Anyways I went back into my apn settings and took out the proxy & port numbers, this seems to have fixed my issue with being able to use the browser on the n1, note with the settings listed above I was still able to tether and have facebook, gmail, hotmail, and everything else sync, just no browser option on the n1. Hope this helps...

gear live connection issues

So I've searched around a bit and not really found anyone else having this issue... Is it just me or is no one complaining?
The Bluetooth connection shows to be solid on the phone "connected, running sync loop" shows in the notification bar and the little connection lost cloud is not displayed on the watch.
However, notifications will not push and if I try to initiate a voice command it spins for while and then tells me that it is "unable to reach the Google server" turning Bluetooth on and then back off will rectify the issue temporarily. And... To make things more complicated it will randomly happen a lot one day and hardly at all another day ( of course it always acts up when someone starts asking questions about the watch and wants a demo, which in turn makes you look like a gullable early adopting fool.)
I'm currently using a gear live with a nexus 5 running the latest stable build of cm11. Ive also tested with and without WiFi enabled, because I thought I noticed a correlation but there seems to be none.
Is it me? Am I doing something wrong?

That happened to me a couple of times too, but the watch usually had the cloud connection symbol thing while my phone said "connected, running sync loop." Turning bluetooth on and off and/or hitting the connect/disconnect button in the android wear app fixed the problem, but it seems to happen again whenever I leave the phone away from the watch and the BT connection is lost. It's doesn't seem to regain the connection on its own.
Is this is a CM11 problem, though? I also have CM11 (nightlies and milestones) and I had the same issue with my pebble watch. I'm thinking of going stock to see if it fixes the problem.

The thing that gets me is how inconsistent it appears to be. My phone is always in my pocket, and the cloud "disconnected" icon never appears.
however the link is clearly broken. I may do a wipe and install AOSP. I hope that is not the issue, ive really been enjoying the theme engine in cm11 along with all of the other customizability features

I had the same issue with my nexus 5 running CM11. Two or three times throughout the day my watch would just stop receiving notifications, but it would still say it was connected. Often I noticed it because when I went to give it a voice command it would not register and then say it was disconnected until I swiped away the notification. I've just flashed over to Omni ROM to see if that fares better, since I'm pretty sure the issue was mainly with CM11 on this phone.

so i'd say, SOLVED.
My io2014 Samsung gear live won't connect to a new nexus 7 WiFi running 4.4.4 stock ROM.
Worked forma while, then flaky, nowmseems like zero connectivity.
Reset everything (on the watch and AR app), now it just won't pair.

The same exact thing is happening to me, just one day started to get in a "Pairing Loop" continually asking me to pair the watch to my phone. Upon pairing successfully and syncing some notifications the connection gets broken and immediately a new parigin code appears.
UPDATE:
I'm back on cm11 and everything is working properly. The problem is not the ROM, its the Kernel that comes baked in. Currently using elementalX Kernel and no issues.
