So I received my DODOcase last week and I've decided to write a review about the case for everyone.
You can find it here: DODOcase for Nexus 7
Price/Shipping:
First off, and the shipment was pretty quick to me. I was impressed since I ordered it on Monday and had it by Thursday. I believe they hand make these cases by order basis, and so to have it turned around in under a week was nice. The box it came in wasn't fancy lol. It was just a cardboard that was cut out and folded to protect it from shipment damage. It did its job though and got to me in perfect condition. Price was steep for a case, at least for me. Came out to $48 with a 10% off coupon with shipping and taxes. You also get another 10% off coupon for someone else to use when you buy from them and if someone uses the coupon and buys a case you get another 10% back. I got another 10% back because someone used my coupon recently and ordered a case.
Quality:
The quality of the case is very high. I was impressed to say the least when I first removed the case from the packaging. You can tell it was created by good workmanship, material is good quality. Feels nice to the touch and it looks very nice to carry around. The color was spot on with what they had on the website, I couldn't be happier with the quality of this case. The elastic band is the same color as the inner panels, I was kind of assuming it would be off a lot but it is really spot on.
Functionally:
Well sure it is pretty but how well does it function at its true core, a case. First the tablet is secured to the case by a doubled sided sticky tape. You peel the top layer off the tape and stick your tablet in place. I had to reset the case about 2 times to get it just where I wanted it. The tape never lost its strength and still holds very very well. I read you can reuse this tape as well by just wiping down the tape with water and it restores the stickiness to it. Haven't tried this yet though.
Next the fit of the case. The case itself is very thin and sleek, and just hugs the Nexus 7 perfect. As you can see in my pictures, the case is very close in size to the Nexus 7, it leaves a little boarder between the edge of the tablet to the edge of the case. Just enough so I would be confident that it would protect my Nexus 7 from a drop. I really like the fit of this case, can't stress that enough. Plus it is pretty light. One thing that kind of bugs me is the Power/Volume buttons are a little harder to access with case on. The case is so low profile that it comes very close to the buttons - the way ASUS place the buttons on the curve of the back panel causes this little problem, so you kind of have to angle your finger different then you normally would to push the buttons.
Lastly, the perch modes and carrying. The standing up perch mode works well for viewing movies at your desk, browsing the web and controlling your playlist for music. I stick the elastic band under the back to give it better support on slick surfaces. The laying down perch mode is okay. I wish it had a wider angle but I understand that to keep this case low profile, it had to stay at a lower angle. Usually I am carrying this case in my hand. It feels good to carry it in one hand and do want you need with the other. I can also thumb type very easy with the case on and folded back. I am typing this whole review actually from my Nexus 7 with the DODOcase, feels comfortable still.
I love the smart cover feature (sleep/wake) this case has. It works perfect, turns off and wakes the screen as intended. The elastic band is a nice feature as well. It looks great when the case is closed and it holds the case shut very well. I guess looking down the line, I can probably see that the elastic band might become dirty from always taking it off and on. I guess I could use try to wash the band if it gets to that point but I have only had it for a few days.
(TLDR)
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with this case. It's very low profile which is always something I look for in a case. It's sleek and sexy and yet adds that protection for your case if you ever happen to drop it, also very light weight. The sleep/wake functions were just the icing on the cake and really completes this case. The price is steep but you do get a high quality case that is sure to get some questions, coworkers and family have really recognized the quality of this case in the few days I've spent with it and really like it. I would recommend this case for anyone that is looking into it. :good:

EDIT Nvm, refreshed lol...
Thanks for the review! Was thinking of ordering one while I waited on my Treegloo case. Didn't like the idea of the strap being the same color as the inside cover (blue) but it actually looks good!
Thanks, you just cost me $48.00+ because I ordered one of these cases to go along w/ the tablet as a Xmas gift.
Where do I send you the bill? (I would have ordered a cheap Amazon type case because I didn't know about this company until I read your review - so, obviously, this is your fault! )
Handiwork looks beautiful. I just can't get enough of these bookcases!

I've received many compliments on my black and red dodocase. It also looks even better when it's warn in.

Also buy the DODOcase for my N7 (but in carbon black).
And also very satisfied about it
I got the case in black when I got my N7 and it's a nice case.
Loving it.
Awesome review! I've been waiting around to see if I could find any thing better but every time I see the dodo i can't resist
Ahhhhh the price is sooooo steep lol. Does anyone know if it will fit the 3G model?? Basically access to the Sim port. Gooosshhh I might get one. Nothing but positive reviews!!!!

I really wish they had the wood frame for the N7 like the other cases they make. If they did I would order one right away! Instead I took a risk and ordered a Treegloo and hopefully that comes in soon :-\

I came across this deal a few minutes ago. Still a few hours left for this:
DODOcase is offering 48% off Sitewide with discount code SUPPORTSMALL . Offer valid today only (Thursday April 4, 2013)
Finding a leather case that's really made for the Note 2 that goes on your hip is a heck of a challenge at best. There's lots of pleather cases out there, and ones that aren't made for the Note...they're big enough to hold two of them I've heard! The case made right is big enough already, it doesn't need to be bigger than needed.
So after lots of looking I settled on the Smartphone Experts Side Pouch.
From what I could tell in the pictures, it looked like a good case and with the black friday discount, I got it for ~$21, not bad for a leather case.
It came in today, and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. It truly is real leather, smells great and is stamped so on the back (you can see it in the pictures.) Stitching is done nicely, and with black thread instead of the white I see so often. Thank god for that, I don't need my case looking like a leisure suit!
There is extra padding on the exposed side of the case, I haven't seen this before in other cases. This can be seen in the pictures too. The belt clip is sturdy and strong, even though it looks small. The closure is magnetic and holds the flap down securely. Honestly, I don't know if magnets really mess up the phone, but it would be a simple matter to slide a sheet of mu-metal foil inside of the padded area to help with that.
The fit is quite snug, but one can expect that with all leather cases. They usually take about a week or so to form fit to your device. After that, it'll be quite easy to get the case in and out of my pocket. It does have a finger hole in the bottom center of the case to enable you to pop your device out easily. One miss, as pointed out by BrooklynAvi is that there is no headphone hole. I don't use headphones, but I can certainly see how that'd be a problem.
So, all in all, a very nice quality case. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a leather hip case.
Thanks for the review. Do you think this pouch can fit the Note Ii with a case? Maybe I'll be a tight fit.
Kinda hard to tell; my phone is naked. The extra padding is soft, so it does have some give in it. If the case is thin, it'll probably go. Good thing is that leather stretches with time, so it should stretch to fit eventually?
I love the Seidio holster but they aren't making it for the GNote 2 without an additional case. In addition to the cost of the extra case, I don't want to have a case on my phone. The strange thing is they make two of those type of cases which annoys me. One should have been the regular one. Well, they said they don't plan to make one so I was in the market for a traditional hip case. I found this one and you confirmed a few things I wanted to know so I'm ordering it now. I used this type for my Dash and several other devices so it shouldn't be too bad. Better than my pocket.
I thought this thread was going to be about a hip ie. fashionable case

Yeah, well.....
One thing I can't stand is a phone in the pocket. Only way to make that worse is to have a LARGE phone in my pocket. It may not look cool, but you can't beat a case on your hip for ease of access.
One (or two) big issues
OP: Can you add this comment (in brief, of course) to the OP so others know the headphones hole is missing?
So I received the case and it was exactly what I expected in terms of quality. It really is designed for a belt but works well on my pants alone when I don't wear a belt but falls off my sweatpants at home (I don't wear my case at home much anyway and this is to be expected). Here are the issues. There are no cutouts for the headphone and charger. The charger isn't truly and issue for me as I doubt I will charge it while wearing it like I've done with other phones (while out and using an external charger) because the battery life is tremendous on the GN2. But I really use the headphones while wearing the case. I actually think that this is a vital feature that was overlooked. My solution will be to pay $5 or $10 to have a professional seamstress cut a hole in it and stitch up the hole. Yeah, it's that important to me.
So if you need a case like this then it's really your only choice. I just didn't think to ask. It's solid though and once it stops being stiff I'm going to enjoy not having to carry the device in my pocket. I'm a huge fan of side cases and this is a really good one. (Anyone remember the awesome one that came with the T-Mobile Dash?)
After a week or so of use I've decided I'm returning the case. It simply doesn't stay on my side and it's fallen off in my car a few times. It even fell off while I was walking. I'm so disappointed in a case that could have been so good.

I never buy those belt clips like that, i had a bad experience with those. The belt part becomes every flimsy very fast. Im still looking for a nice belt holster that isn't ottercase or siedo.
I haven't had a problem with it falling off, but then I always had a belt on when I was using the case. It's a good case, but I've switched to the Best Buy Pt/seidio surface case. Gives the extra grip I need and love the holster.
Here is my review http://smartphoneblogging.com/2012/...-its-not-half-as-bad-as-many-reviews-suggest/
Even with all of its shortcomings I prefer this to all those huge and ugly leather cases. Its slim, light and has great grip...I don't care much about the missing magnet, but I do miss the stand function though...
I agree with the review, but they could have done better in designing it. I found a lot of the cases don't look to nice, so I just keep mine in a neoprene case for when I take it out, the tablet is naked.
I have also been thinking to live without a case but at the end I need something which completely wraps around my nexus 7 without adding bulk. I had a pouch too but it was too cumbersome to take it out of it all the time...at the moment there is no better solution for me than the nexus travel case...
Mine, like every phone I've owned lately, lives in a TPU skin, and I just pop it in the lovely Portal-themed felt sleeve my girlfriend made me when I'm out of the house. I don't really trust myself using a naked device at all. The times my devices come out of their TPU skins are almost certainly the time I will drop them... lol
Lack of magnet sleep and magnetic close could have made the case a lot better, but I think. I don't have it yet so I might try to mod it a little with some relatively weak magnets and some tape if I can help not taking the away from its sleekness.

I agree 100%. Just bought original case in light gray and it is fantastic. Such a nice look, looks good quality and feels great in hand. I don't mind the stand, I don't mind that the cover can flip open because there's no security button or something (I have it in my pocket anyway so there's not much room to flap open) what I mind is the magnet because the power and volume buttons are a bit awkwared to press since they're covered with silicone. I mean, it's easy to press, no problems there, it just works - but there is no "click" feeling to it. Even though it is pretty expensive here in the Czech rep (500 Crowns, that;s like 20 Euros) I don't have regrets - the build quality is great and it looks and feels fantastic.
cheers,
D.

Thanks, that's exactly my opinion. I wonder why Asus didn't support at least the magnet...
what i'd really want is a bumper case, with a cover for the screen. The back really doesn't need protection from scratches and stuff like the iPad. Still caseless and waiting

True. Basically I'd love to have a smart cover like Apple provides. It only covers the screen. I also think that the Nexus 7 doesn't need an additional back cover.
A small bumper with a screen cover is really a nice idea.
What I like about the original Asus cover is that it changes the color of your Nexus - I have light gray color and it is almost white, so the Nexus looks completely different Yes, no need for back cover, but kinda nice to see it it light gray or any other color they offer
I hear this was a flop to. I was considering accessories for m N7.
But I dont want to loose the back rubber with I love. and the Damn N7 will slip right in my back pocket if I need to go make a tech call.
I'm hereby going caseless.

The official travel case has a nice rubber back with similar feel to the real nexus back...
If just it had a magnet and were able to be folded as a stand, it would be great!
Sendt fra min Nexus 7
Actually I wonder why no 3rd party just copied the material and fit of the official case and added magnet+stand feature...or at least one of those two features...

I ordered the latest fashion cover from nillkin, which looks good but feels cheap.

After some days of usage I switched back to the travel case, which still just feels the best overall. It has more grip and is slimmer than the eBay smart covers...

Ok at first I thought no auto sleep, a person can deal. Then I read no way to keep it closed. Since the glass is not gorilla glass this is a deal breaker. Scratch scratch scratch.
So they are going to make a premium case too?

I don't want to manually mod the case, that's not my job. Your solution is nice, but its ridiculous that Google or Asus let it come to this. They should give us a premium case.
Picked one up tonight at Walmart. Was looking for a generic case and I was happily suprised to see one. $29.88. By the time Google gets tax and shipping it was worth the extra.
I really like it so far.
Hey guys, since i have tried the original case as well as some 3rd party cases i was not happy about the results. My main concern was how thick and heavy the nexus 7 got after applying the original case or one of those "smart" cover fakes as well as that i wanted to still be able to feel that rubberized back.
So i went to a shop which sells all kind of cloths like leather, jeans, etc. I bought myself some leather and thread went home and took out my sewing maschine. sewing it to have a perfect fit takes about 10 - 15 minutes in total depending on skill level. I still have some leather remaining for a total of maybe another 3 cases - or i might just do another few for my mobile phone or some other devices. In fact, it'll be very cheap. for a total of 4 cases the leather is about 5 euro, and the thread will last for many cases and also just a few euro. It's very simple but it's still impressing.
I've added attachment to show the end result, as well as how it fits in tightly plus as a bonus inside that store you can see the choice of materials. So if someone is happy putting up 15 minutes work he can do it for himself.
Have fun!
Edit: This is like the first prototype, therefor on the first picture you can see 2 wholes for sticking in needles. I do not recommend using this method to find out the proper size.
That is a nice looking sleeve you made for yourself. I have no sewing talent myself so I wont be attempting it.
I thought the same way which is why I ended up buying a sleeve for myself off Amazon to protect it in transport. Sure it's no actual case on the tablet but I couldn't stand the bulk and this was much more pleasant looking.
All I have on it is a screen protector and a vinyl skin on the battery cover.
P.S An idea you could possibly include on your next iteration of it is a pocket for headphones...that is if you use any with it.

Hey, thanks for your reply. Yeah i am thinking about doing several cases for several devices / things. My headphones both have cases when bought already ( Bose QC15 and MIE2i ) but i think about doing some for mobile phones, maybe camera lenses, even business cards, I'll see. I just came from that shop again, they gave me some white leather to work with free of charge.
I guess anyone can do with manual labor as well but it will take more time obviously. Anyone else can ask for grandma's assistance
Here is another one, this time for the galaxy s3 lte... the cost of the bag are approximatly 0,10 cents. Picked up the white leather for free just because i talk a bit with the woman who's been working at that store yesterday which is enough for a few more bags, the thread is not expensive. I can just recommend... If i can do that, anyone can do. My craftmanship skills are quite low. There are really nice materials out there which could give you a unique case for your phone/tablet/device so go for it!
Hi guys and gals, it's been a while since I've done a case review and this time it's a case from French manufacturer Noreve, who are known for their hand made, premium and genuine leather cases.
This time around I decided to go for a pouch, as I wanted something different, and was also curious as to how it was going to be crafted, since these are all hand made. Why the pouch, you ask? Well I just think they look great. While not the most practical of cases maybe, as you have to take the device out each and every time you want to use it, and you can't use the always on display, I just think it looks elegant. Going out for the night? Throw this case on. I've found it to be great since you're not distracted when any notifications come in, and when you put it on a table, it just looks elegant like most other phone cases simply do not. I'm not a big fan of plastic cases because they make the device look cheap. Think about it, you buy a phone for nearly $800, then you put a $5 plastic case on it, which just looks terrible. In my opinion, it totally takes away from the phones metal and glass construction. Also with the S7 Edge, I love the way it feels in the hand naked, and with this case you always have that experience.
As always, this case from Noreve is also exceptionally well made. It took a few weeks for it to arrive, since they only start making them once you order one, and depending on the finish, it can take longer or shorter. But normally it's about two weeks, which is perfectly fine for a custom made, leather case.
Unboxing a Noreve case is always an event. It comes in a very handsome red box, which is sealed by plastic wrap. Inside the box, you'll find a protective red pouch for your case - this is a very nice touch, and I love that they do this, when they really don't have to. But the devil is in the details. Inside the pouch, you'll find your case - and the first thing that you'll probably notice is the brilliant smell of genuine leather. It just adds something to the overall experience that I enjoy.
The case is made exceptionally well. Noreve cases have always been constructed with very high attention to detail, but I believe it's even higher now as there are no flaws with the case whatsoever. Because this is a pouch style case, there are no cut outs for the camera, power or volume rocker buttons. None for the micro USB or headphone jack, either. The only cut outs are for the speakers on the bottom. I think this is perfectly fine, and whenever I wanted to charge the phone or plug in some headphones, I'd just reverse the phone and put it into the pouch in reverse. I found this to be a practical and easy solution.
In conclusion, I am pretty much blown away by this company yet again. Never received a bad case from them, they only seem to get better. Mine is in the Ambition (grained leather) finish, but Norever offer a whole bunch of different finishes which you can also then customize. Basically, the sky is the limit. These guys can do whatever you want. They're a bit on the pricey side (my case was $45.40 - free shipping with DHL) but as we all know, you get what you pay for. This is not one of those Chinese made, fake leather cases which will rip and tear after a few months. Hell, I'm still using the one I have for my Galaxy Nexus, which should say something.
Here are some pictures below of this beauty. Thank you all for reading, and here's a link to their product page.
Cheers.

The inner material is also leather, but more of a matte leather with the company logo branded into it. I'll try to get a picture up for you, but I haven't had any problems with it scratching the screen.

Honestly to me that looks like a recipe for disaster. If anything like a grain of sand gets in it, you are running the screen down the inside material and it could scratch it.
