Does CM5.0.8 have a 10mb RAM hack? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If it does can someone give me a link to where i can find it?

No it does not. This is why we use Compcache or a Swap partition on our sd card.

No, and to continue to beat a dead f-ing horse:
<edit>Please</edit>Don't post questions in the dev section.
<edit>Please</edit>Do your own research. This has been brought up before and has been explained.
Because the ram hack takes away from 3D, the performance is actually worse off than helped.

No it doesn't because most CM followers want cool toys instead of stable phones. I don't play 3d games either, so there's a sacrifice I'm willing to make, but they don't understand that. I'm working on one, but with the job and family, it will be a while. I'll post it once it's stable.

That is no longer used, due to the fact that the new kernel branch isn't compatible with the ram hack at all. A kernel dev would have one avail if it was possible to make one.

You people are all missing the facts in this;
The reason there is no 10 MB hack is NOT because it isn't possible, or even because it is difficult.... it is because ECLAIRE DEPENDS ON 3D much more than previous android versions did. Take away 10 MB from the GPU and it all turns to crap -- whether you 3dgame or not.

Oh dang, shoulda known king lbcoder would come in and correct everyone.
Anyway, since we have no 10mb ram hack, we use compcache or a swap partition (at least on G1's) to make up for low memory. But this might not be fact...just what everyone is doing in the G1 Development Forum.

I suggest not using swap.... it is quite an ugly hack for android -- makes things slow. Let the android memory manager do its job -- it is very good at it.

If you're using ADW Launcher, try locking home in memory from spare parts. It fixed that issue for me.

Snapshot Application Question

I have been wanting this application for quite awhile, but everytime I go to search for it, I never seem to find it.
I have done search queries with mixed results from "Snapshot", "Snapshot app", "Snapshot application", "Snapshot Android Application", "Android Snapshot", with no luck of where to find it.
The worse part of it all, is what I do find, is that it is said to be in the Android Marketplace, again mixed results, and the application no where to be found.
Am I missing something?
(And yes, I'm enjoying CyanogenMod, which has put faith back into my love for my G1. JF ADP 1.5 was still very... unstable... on my phone.)

Will have to wait for the laptop I'm getting. I've only got 1.4GB (less or more, depending on how cache-happy Google Chrome is) left out of my 4GB on my EeePC 4G Surf, and I reserve that for boredom. I forgot about reading about getting it for free somewhere with those tools. I pretty much didn't give a rat's butt when I had JF ADP. I didn't know it could get better.

The only rom I know of that has the screenshot.apk is one of jac's hero roms. It was a while back in the 2.x rom builds because I quit hero with 2.63 so it was before that.

Can Someone Port the HTC Desire Rom to the Vogue Please? It has Flash 10.1 Support!

I'm willing to Donate to get this done
here is the link to download the rom and also the kitchen. I know absolutely nothing about this stuff. I Hope im not giving links to stuff that is not helpful.

if someone is already working on this, Im very grateful.
Thanks Myn for pointing all this out
Ive had this downloaded for a while and expect if no one has it ported by the time I get my phone and my first build tested I'll give it a go. I'm expecting however because it's designed for a higher resolution that while I can get it to boot the resolution is going to cause framework issues.
I'll keep you guys posted.

im interested in the flash support. I just remember when we couldnt pull the flash out of the hero properly without the framework, so i figure this wouldnt be possible either. I would be willing to try the rom if someone ported it though

Couple roadblocks in the way.. the build is designed for the snapdragon cpu. I've not been successfull in the past at getting them going 100% (sorry I didn't realize this when I said I'd be able to do it) and I've been working on my build all day..
I don't tend to give up on things though so I'll come back around to it in a bit.

I've tried cleaning up vilords tattoo build, still uses a lot of space removed a lot of htcextras that I don't use need or want. but if I remove the wrong things I have problems still working on it though the most I can get is close to 52 mb free internal memory before I sync all of my contacts. This is why I was curious if you could I tried splitting the install I suppose I have to have a partitioned SD card to get it to work right I get a lot of I/O device errors

Yes, you would need an ext2 parition on your sd, and a custom install script to set it all up.

RyanZA's lag fix: will it work on the vibrant? **UPDATE** IT WORKS!!

**UPDATE**
it works provided you don't have any of the previous ext stuff set up.
**UPDATE2**
rhcp0112345 has put together a *nix / osx based version of the script.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7582553&postcount=37
**UPDATE3**
anomalous3 made a modified version that uses bind mounting instead of symlinks and will remove the init.d ext version of apps2sd. NOTE: ONLY FOR PEOPLE WITH THE init.d ext hack!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7583566&postcount=51
**UPDATE4**
I tried it using rhcp0112345's version and I'm now getting over 2100 in quadrant, w00t!
**UPDATE5**
rhcp0112345 posted a one click .apk version

Interesting. It should work fine. I considered that angle, but the bottleneck seemed to be the flash itself. The **** rfs filesystem could certainly be part of the problem though. I'll see if I can work something up that uses our existing stuff like the init.d so we can fsck the filesystem before mounting it to make sure it doesn't get corrupted. It would be nice to not require partitioning as that step seems to confuse the hell out of people for some reason. The down side is possible delays from traversing 2 filesystem drivers, but Quadrant at least seems to like it fine. I wonder how the general lag is for them now, benchmarks aren't everything.

Haha thats true but developers especially ones that make ROMs go thru testing and risk their DEVICES to make sure that nothing is going wrong and all that before "releasing" it. Although this isn't a release of his works he could of at least tested it without telling other people to go try it out, but im gonna sit here and wait for a status report.

I think the biggest I've seen is in cognition with has 304 available for user/apps. As others above have said a portion will always be dedicated to video.
It's quite common on laptops. They'll advertise like 2gb but windows will show a lower value. The difference is allocated to video.

[THINK TANK/CONTEST] How small can you get a ROM?

Here's the catch: Vibrant ROMs are so large. With that thought in mind, I was thinking about how small we could get a ROM. How about everybody gives it a shot?
ROM TO USE: Deodexed KB1 (EDT)
My take at it: KB1 (113,126 KB)
I think thats the main point of the Loki rom by Brick... I think its around 110MB... Don't remember if its based off of KB1 tho

Downloads- and I speak for a majority- aren't a hassle in terms of ROMs. The average user can download 200mbs in about 20 minutes. ROMs are less than that.
I hate when people enter threads like this and just quickly reply--what's the point.
When you get down to it, what is the point of having more then 1 alternative ROM. Isn't the whole idea of ROMing to customize, optimize and just plain have fun with an open platform?
So to all those that said, what's the point. The point of this is FOR FUN!

That was a joke. The point is, the base kernel image is a "rom". everything you add to that adds a little more functionality (starting with hardware). It's all a matter of what you can live without, and not everyone feels the same way. I think you'd have to spell out what you consider to be "minimum functionality."
Otherwise, if you don't want any apps, or for your phone to react in any way what-so-ever when you press buttons or touch the screen, I think I could make you something
im on 80 meg rom got slimmed from original loiki by bricked .
