My memory CArd shows 3 GB after format ? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, I had a G1 phone and I used to install roms, thats why i had formatted my memory card in it acording to instractions on forum pages and it was 4 gb but As a ext 1-2-3-4 parts I used to have 3 gb of it as memory card. But now I sold my G1 and bought a Moto Millestone. but when i put my memory stick in to pc, it shows still 3 GB , I tried to format it a few times but no way its always 3 gb nothing else. How can I get back my missing 1 GB ?

That would probably be because you're only reformating the FAT32 partition.
If you've previously partitioned the sdcard to fat/ext/swap then those partitions are still there. You need to remove those other partitions to regain your full 4gb.
Use the recovery to remove the ext and swap partitions.

Big problems with CyanogenMod-4.2.11.1 and APPS2SD

Hi
I have some big problems when I use an EXT2, EXT3 ore EXT4 partition on my SD card.
I want to use APPS2SD to save memory space, but as soon as I make an EXT partition on my SD card, my phone always hangs all the time in the startup.
I get the Android logo, and that the screen goes black with background light, and hangs like that fore 30min with no change.
But if I eject my SD card and start up without it, it's no problem, but now all my programs are in the SD card so they are missing.
What I've done:
I had CyanogenMod-4.2.05.
Made an EXT3 partiotion on my SD card.
Made an linux-swap 31mb partiotion
Updatet to CyanogenMod-4.2.11.1 and than it started up, added my progs to the SD.
Had 1 reboot with no problem, tried to update some programs, than it hang up on the update, woudnt update.
So I had an reboot, that when it started up I got a lot of error messages on the updates.
Tried an new update, and now it wont start up with the SD inserted.
I tried ext partition on my erlier CyanogenMod but same problem than also...
What could my problem be?
Have an 8gb class 4 micro SD card
when I now trie to install programs I get an error message "Insuffcient storage availble"
Clearly this is a problem with your sdcard. Try complete re-format first, followed by complete wipe and re-flash. If that doesn't help then you need a new sdcard.
Good luck.
In what order are your partitions? It sounds like you no longer have the FAT32 as mmcblk0p1? Make sure the first partition is the FAT32, the second is EXT, and the third your swap.
Hi
Could be my card, it's an ebay card so, but works fine with music...
I use an guide fore formating my card, and I make the fat32 first, than ext and so the swap.
Now I tried to make an partition with ubuntu, and without the swap, but dosent seem to help, black screen after the adroid logo....
I guess I give up and its my card...
When i use the Print comand in parted i get the fat32 up first...
Print
number start end size type file system fla
gs
1 0 7500 7500mb primary fat32 lba
2 7500 8000 500mb primary ext2
3 8000 8032 32mb primary linux-swap(v1)
Use AmonRa's recovery? It will paritition the card for you the right way with whatever size partitions you specify.
Ok so my partition could be the problem?
ill try the AmonRa's recovery than, and if not I guess its not ment to be apps2sd on my phone...
Well, I wouldn't say that apps2sd is not ment for your phone since so many of us are using this hack (including myself) however this may be a tedious process of eliminating possible causes. I would not rule out the possibility of damaged SD card. It has happened before to many people. Re-format and re-partition your existing card first. Wipe everything off your phone, re-flash the rom of your choice (following the instructions) and see if it works. If it doesn't work - then I would look into getting a different SD card. I just received a tweet that compUSA has class 6 8GbB card with adapter for $30. I also saw something in "Dream accessories" forum in the "Promotions" thread, I believe 8GB card for $15 from Amazon. Cards are a lot cheaper then new phone, you should try that out. Good luck.
Ok.
I've now installed the AmonRa's recovery 1.5.2
Partition the card with AmonRa's recovery
Wiped data/factory
Shud I wipe dalvik-cache, battry status, and rotate settings also?
Wipe dalvik-cache, others should not matter for what you're trying to accomplish.
Ok thx.
I'll try that, if it doesnt work now, I'll buy an new sd card
So AmonRa's recovery didnt help, so I guess it's my sd card than.
Will buy an new one and test with that.
So fore now on it's low on space
Maby this time I will remember to take an backup when I have y phone the way I like, getting tierd of setting up my phone all the time

[Q] Nookie 0.5.9 .. and My 8 GB Micro SD seems to be 1 GB

Hi,
I've rooter my NookColor, and I'm using Nookie 0.5.9
I'm set french keyboard, lots of things everything is great.
My last (for now problem) is that I "burnt" the nookie 0.5.9 on my 8 GB Micro Sd card and now when I use it, It says it's a 1 GB card and I've go 800 KB left on my card.
Is there a way to resize the partition to get my 8 GB available ?
I tried to find a post about it, but I didn't suceed..
Thanks for your help.
If you're on windows, you can use the free Partition Master software to resize the sdcard partition of your SD card. It worked fine for me and making Nookie use the full 4GB of my card.
Great !
It worked perfectly, very easy to use (just drag the right size of the partition then apply ..
takes less than 2mn and now I've got 6.4 GB free
Thanks

You can also use EAUSUS( just google it, its free to download, you would also use this to get sd back to one partition if you ever wanted to) to resize partition. This is mentioned in a few other threads as well if you had searched a bit
Ahem.. Yep, should have read it closer.

All utter nonsense, just boot the Nook Color without the card in it, put the card in, go to Settings, Unmount, Format. As per in the wiki..

You should really read his post isntead of acting all high and mighty. He's using Nookie Froyo. If he did what you suggested it would wipe froyo off his bootable sd card.

Yep, you're right, my bad. There is such a proliferation of nonsense about how to format the SD card after Auto Nooting I missed he was using NF.
Actually, with what you told me it's great, on my Nook, I have 6.4 GB Free..
I downloaded a movie, it worked great, the 6.4 GB are really available.
But I have one problem.. I cannot put files from my pc ...
When I connect the NookColor to my pc with the usb cable and select to "Turn on USB storage", I can see the boot partition but not the 6.4 GB partition
I tried to pout the memory card directly in my pc (not throw the nookColor), and it does the same.
I also tried with the disk manager of windows to try to attribute a drive letter but it doesn't allow it.
Actually this is the partitions on my SD Card:
- Boot ( J: ) 118 MB Fat32 Sane, active
- 149 MB Sane (unkown partition)
- 698 MB Sane (unkown partition)
- 6.44 GB Sane
What are tose 149 and 698 partitions ? Are they necessary ?
How can I activate the 6.44 GB partition to be able to transfer files from my pc ?
Anyway ... Thanks all of you for giving time and sharing your knowledge !
No solution to my remaining problem ?
The img uses up only 1 gb so yo have another partition that holds thes free space. go to settings and mount sd n format
you mean with the nook or with the PC ?
from the nook I can R/W on it
but I cannot see the partition when on the pc (so I cannot transfer files)

Problem with new SD card

So far i have been using default 2GB SD that comes with the phone, with ext2 partition (512MB size) for app2sd. Everything was working fine, i would change ROMS, install apps, all ok.
Recently i bought a 4GB class 4 sd, partitioned again an ext2 same size, but i notice that apps randomly crash, sometimes the phone fails to boot and many times when i try to install ROMS, at xrecovery it says that the zip file is "bad"
Has anyone experience any kind of weird behavior with a new SD?
well that happened to me just format it
Recently switched from default 2 gigs to 8 gigs microSd, but no problems. I do have it whole formatted as fat32 though.
Use 2.3.5 roms that have native app2sd and no need to create additional ext partition.
Backup it, format from phone, upload data back.
HAVE to work. If not - your new card is broken.
Format with your phone...before that, backup your SD card fisrt.

[Q] Link2Sd Right partition combination and slow sd card

Hi guys
I'm looking forward to use Link2sd so I installed minitoll partition wizard and tried to create 2 partitions:
1 Primary 7 Gb FAT32
1 Primary 0.6 Gb Ext2
i could never complete the task and partition wizard kept saying the sd card was unformatted. I found on anther thread that for some phones Ext2 partition did not work and that a second Fat32 could solve the issue.
I went down that road and the sd formatting went fine creating 2 Fat32 partition.
The BIG problem is that the sd card (Kingston 8 Gb class4) is extremely slow, getting all my backuo data back into it took like 30 hours.
Is this normal ?
What is the proper partition combination for the X8 on order to use Link2sd ??
Such slow writing speed to the sdcard seems a pretty high price to pay...is it worth ???

I used the same software to create partition in my Sandisc 8GB class2 SD card. It took around 10 mins to create and format the card with 7.5GB FAT32 and 0.5GB Ext2. Both are primary.
I suggest you to check the Card and software by interchanging them. That is try with same software on a new computer with this card and again on your machine try a new or another card.
Another way that you can make the partition in CWM recovery.
Positively there is something wrong, the time you mentioned is too unusual.
Hi
Thanks a lot, when you are so close to the trees you can't see the forest.jaja
After several combinations I realized that the sd card port on the laptop was defective. I used an usb adapter and partioned with minitools, just as you said and worked...finally.
Cheers

[Q] Swapping external_sd and internal memory on the Ace

I have a Galaxy Ace 2(GT-I8160), and remember when I was trying new roms, a few of them offered a patch, that was switching the internal USB memory(where everything goes) with the External SD card(which is usable only for music, photos and downloads). Now a friend of mine has the same issues that the memory gets filled in magical way and there is nothing left to do except maybe to restore factory defaults(which is annoying IMO). So I am asking is there any sort of trick which could be used to achieve the same result, and use the 8gig SD card as a internal memory?
The phone is Samsung Galaxy Ace (Three UK) more info could be provided later today.
The best scenario is without flashing, rooting is an option, but not recommended(my friend is a bit stuck on technology ) I would appreciate if the procedure does not require manual partitioning of the SD Card and as a must, not to require a ROM.
This is my first post on the XDA, so don't get hard on me.
my friend:
im sry but yes you have to do partition from the recovery then use one of the partition apps like : link2sd or s2e or other partiton scripts
edit : here is a thread that tell you how http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477996

I used S2E with an EXT3 partition of 2GB and it worked well.
buddy swapping kills memory card
so do not try it
my sandisk 16 gb class 10 sd card died in this
