Hi, I do not like the performance of the alternative launcher that is packaged in CM6. I read in a few posts throughout the forums that all involve various ways to get the stock launcher back but none of them give instructions for newbies to follow.
So I would like to ask the community for a definitive way to restore the stock launcher on CM6. Thank you for your help!
You could try installing Launcher pro and then it will ask you which launcher to use next time you hit home. Then you could choose the stock launcher (or launcher pro, which is a lot lighter)

CM6 does not have the stock launcher. So this wouldn't work.
But Launcher Pro is by fast the best I have seen.
learn how to mess with the settings and you wont go with any launcher other than adw
Get the stock ROM, or any ROM containing stock launcher.
Extract /system/app/Launcher2.apk to some directory.
Run from there:
adb push Launcher2.apk /system/app/Launcher2.apk
That's it. Download LauncherPro, then it'll ask you to choose the launcher. Test all and decide.
Watch your battery level using for a while after installing LauncherPro. For some it really suck up juice, including my phone.
Take it out of a ROM that has it, I did it on my G1

I don't want to root my G1 for a moment. And I don't want ahome, openhome, dxtop, pandahome.
I just want to have more then 3 screens on non-rooted phone. Is it possible?
Not sure if you need root to install the Advanced Launcher.

Give it a shot. Make sure you enable the phone to install third-party applications.

Pull Cyanogen's launcher from his ROM over in the development section, and try installing that with any of the app-installer apps. It's basically a 5-screen, no-frills launcher. That should work.

That one should work too, at least the standalone version should. Of course, it has a bit more features than the default or Cyanogen versions, so if you really want to keep it simple, you may want to stick with either of those.
Yes! Advanced Launcher is what i wanted. Thank you all for help.
It works very well with official Donut.

Depends on what rom you are using like CM5, CM6.1, CM7, etc..
So find what version you have and do a nandroid backup..move the .zip to your sd card and flash it through clockwork
Go get MIUI rom, the most easy to have custom theme.
tried that

do you meen the ADW Launcher that is on the market ?
Just search the market for ADW Launcher EX, it costs €2,50 though...
I've tried out AWD Launcher EX 1.21 but I think I'm gonna stick with Go-Launcher, it isn't as ajustable as AWD, but the app-drawer is just great! The Go-Launcher app-drawer has 3 tabs, one for all the installed apps, one for all the recently opened apps (like history on a browser) and one for the curently running apps. So its got an easy accesible build-in task-manager. Very useful!
What do you mean nandroid? As in the backup feature on clockwork?

Search for "ADW" or "ADW theme" in the Marketplace.
Hey guys!
I've noticed that Sammy did a awful job when it comes to our stock Android.
I was a happy user of CyanogenMod but I really missed some Sammy stock apps and reverted back to stock ROM.
Now I'm creating a bareboned stock-based ROM for my personal use, but when I remove some apps, I noticed that they still appeared on my launcher.
On the /system/app directory, there is some Launcher*.apk files, where the * is something like AlarmClock, Browser, Calculator. The apps that I removed only disappeared when I deleted the matching Launcher*.apk too.
I wonder if there is some way to bypass this? By bypass I mean, remove the Launcher*.apk files and still have the icons on my launcher.
Thanks!
Maybe u can try using Root Uninstall.. See if it help u out to clean up all the apps that u wanted to remove include the system/app files also u can remove it easily....
here u can get the apps
link
Correct me if Im wrong ok.
Thanks for the help, but this is not what I want I think I wasn't clear enough. I want to remove the dependency of a second APK to show the icons on my launcher. Guess that is has been hard-coded by samsung. Oh god, why...
Try titanium backup, make backup then restore, I dunno why, but it worked for me with some apps. Or try a different launcher and see what happens.

I'm using Holo Launcher I'm gonna try it another time, maybe LauncherPro and ADW.
I noticed that this only exists in my Brazilian ROM, since this don't happens on the XWKTM. therefore, this thread isn't needed anymore. Thanks for those who helped!

Free version theming is not violating anything. There are plenty of blacked out free apps out there.
And, there is this, of which the OP is not making a claim that the above work is his own...http://www.apache.org/foundation/license-faq.html

Hi guys. Is it possible to completely replace the launcher in the /system/app with other launcher.
I have tried several times, and all of them lead to force close of the launcher leaving me with no launcher and have to flash the stock rom again via odin.

yes, when you push to system don't forget to push lib of the launcher also.
or why don't you just install other launcher as user app, then uninstall stock launcher?

I didn't know that could work! I honestly think that the launcher will only work when I put the apk into the system. Thanks mate,I will try your suggestion.

it will, if you aren't sure, don't uninstall stock launcher until your new launcher is installed
