Can you LOCK the bootloader after unlocking it using the same steps? That would be a first step in restoring to normal if warrenty work is required.
What is this underclocked 2?
If nobody else gives it a try by the time mine arrives tomorrow, I will root my device and then see if I can't reverse it for the sake of warranty preservation.
Glad we are already at this step on Day 2
I did this and I can't see protected apps on the market anymore.. anyone else experience this issue?
A way to check is to try to find Twidroid on the market or really any paid app

Same issue here.
well maybe it is underclocked but I doubt it. Google advertises the phone at 1Ghz.
my permisson app doesnt freeze for me but what you can do is remove it and use something like astro to go to your phones root dir theres a folder in there called superroot with the apk for it so you can reinstall it.
Is there a unroot tutotial as well?
Paid Market Apps
I had a feeling, and it seems to have been confirmed, that rooting will not allow me to download paid apps. I know that this was an issue when the G1 was first rooted and it was "fixed." Can someone confirm this issue? This is a big one for me.

I can still see paid apps.
Also, reinstalling the superuser apk fixed the blank screen issue.
I trying to extract the LiveWallpapers.apk from ctso's snackpack rom, and install it onto cyanogen's latest rom. I tried following the directions laid out by another member, but just can't get it to work. can anyone help me out with this. I'm just trying to learn what I can about flashing, cooking, and general tweaking of the android OS. there's a lot of great help here, but I'm having some trouble when it comes to breaking down the inner workings. any help is greatly appreciated. If you don't feel like typing a novel out, even a push in the right direction, for getting more into the inner working of This phone and android would be great.

good point, I guess if we all did that, it wouldn't have been as hard for me to figure out. Here we go then, I wanted to install the Nexus live wallpaper from ctso's Snackpack ROM, which by the way is now avaliable as a free download on the market. here's what I did
You need to have Root
Download Snackpack ROM from xda
Extract files (in this case LiveWallpapers.apk
Placed folder in Android Sdk-tools folder
open command window (Shift-right click in tools folder window)
plug in phone
Enter Recovery ( turn on phone while holding vol. down, navigate to recovery )
This is a good point to do a nandroid backup
turn on usb within recovery
in command window type
adb devices (press enter)
adb shell (press enter)
mount /system (press enter)
exit (press enter)
adb remount (press enter)
adb push LiveWallpapers.apk /system/app (press enter)
adb shell reboot (press enter)
once phone boots up you should be all set.
This process works for pushing any file to phone, from what I understand.
If I am wrong on any part of this please correct me, as I am still pretty new to the android back end. If you have any questions, let me know and I'll try to help. That's what it's about.

Command lines should look as follows assuming you have the apk on the root of your SD card... make sure you figure out the correct command to mount /system first, as I can't remember it off the top of my mind:
su
mount XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
cp /sdcard/xxxx.apk /system/app/
That's it.. That last command copies the file to /system/app and overwrites any file with the same name. All you need to do is reboot and you're done.
First I want to apologize for the double post (post in General)
I used odin to get froyo on the Captivate. That worked fine. When I try and root 2.2, the phone froze and now it won't get out of recovery mode. I have tried every combination I can think of to reboot the phone short of throwing it down the street, but I cannot get out of recovery mode. I am also unable to use the power button (ok key?) to select anything. I can use the volume keys fine for up and down.
One of the errors says:
"(Unknown error: 0) ensure_root_path_unmounted++
ensure_root_path_unmounted (/mnt/internal_sd)
ensure_root_path_unmounted ret 0
unmount(/mnt/internal_sd) attempt 1 (unknown error: 0)
Install default apk-files. finished.
Mind you, I have already tried to put the rooted 2.2 files on the sd card, but still to no avail. Any suggestions? I am really hoping this phone isn't rooted.
So you have a european firmware? Which one is it?
Sent from my phone so excuse the spelling errors
I just fixed it. Reinstalled the firmware with Odin and it's working fine now. Thank you.
dude how did you do that.. I have the same friggin issue and I can't fix it. I'm stuck in recovery mode all the time, as soon as I plug the phone in to charge, or plug it in the computer via usb, or push the power button, the damn thing goes into recovery mode and stays there. I can use the volume buttons to navigate up and down through the options and if I hold the power botton down long enough the phone will turn off and back on again. But if I press the power button once (as in select an option) it doesn't do anything. I tried every single option out there to get into download mode with the battery out and usb in and volume buttons then put bat in....etc nothing works. I need to get into download mode

What he said. Plus, I have had it happen sometimes that no matter what I always reboot into recovery. At that point I just adb reboot download and re-flash.
ok thanks. I know I said I have tried everything before but I wasn't completely truthful. I did try ADB though, but I don't think I was doing it right. I downloaded the SDK thing and started a command prompt from "start menue, accessories, and command prompt" but when I type the command "adb reboot download" nothing happens and the command prompt disappears. I don't have much experience with ADB, is there anyway you can give step by step instructions on how to do this? I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks
I found this thread on here "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517874" but still didn't help me much. Everytime I type cd c:\Android or any other command I get The system cannot find the path specified.
Here's what I do. After you download the sdk. There is a folder called tools. I copy that to c:
Then opencommand prompt and type,
C:
CD tools
adb reboot
Or, adb reboot download
Of course make sure your phone is connected via USB.

thanks I'll try that when I get home. I think this might take care of the problem, because I did keep the folder on the desktop and did not move it to C: folder. Although when I plug in the phone via USB, I still can't establish connection between phone and computer, but I will let you know how it goes after I get home tonight. and I did find some stuff about ADB through google so I might be able to do something with it tonight.
Thanks for the help though
Download odin one click, remove the battery, open odin, replace battery, hold down both volume buttons, and plug the usb cable in. That should get you to download mode unless your 3-button doesn't work.

Find the tools folder in the SDK you dowloaded and extracted, I found a shortcut to it scroll over the tools folder, hold the shift key and right click on the tools folder then choose open command window here.
When the command window opens type the command ADB shell then hit enter, then type adb reboot download then hit enter with your phone plugged into pc. This always works for me. You can always change the path by moving the folder directly to your c drive but this will work for you for now.

This has saved my azz a few times.....Learn to use adb mode from PC inDEEED!!!!
Adb recovery adb download ....on and on.....
I found this after searching around for ages on a way to upgrade the recovery on my Wildfire/Buzz, all the friggin fastboot methods weren't working. This worked straight away, no errors, no problems.
Flash a New Recovery Image
1. Find the recovery image you want and MAKE SURE IT IS FOR YOUR PHONE (should say in where you download it what phone it is for)
2. Rename the filename of the recovery image EXACTLY as it is written to recovery.img
3. Put the recovery image file on the SD card (not in any folders)
4. Download Android Terminal Emulator from the Market (there are a few different terminals in the Market some have an onscreen keyboard and some don’t experiment till you get one, also hold down Menu in some of them to bring up the onscreen keyboard if you don’t see it)
5. Open the Terminal program and type the following (with hitting enter at the end of each line):
su (press enter)
(at this stage it will ask you for superuser permission to access your core system. Allow the access)
su (press enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
6. Phone should pause for a second and then show you a new blank line. Turn it off and back on by holding down Home and Power to ensure it flashed correctly. Done.
Error
flash_image: not found
Sdcard is fat (not fat32). Any idea.

EDIT - Sorry, Wrong method, here's the correct one:
First, make sure you have the latest Android SDK, then:
Connect the device to your computer
Copy recovery.img to the root of your SD card
Open term on your computer and run: adb root adb remount
Flashing the custom recovery adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Reboot into recovery to make sure the process was successful.
Sec:

3xeno, your method is the same as yusuo's.
he directly use console on android to send command "flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img" after become root ("su")
pro: no need for PC, con: hard typing on the device
you ask adb to execute on the device the command "flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img".
pro: single command with a real keyboard; con: need for PC and cable
fastboot works only with s-off,if you don t have s-off it will not work .-. (or if you don t have the right files)
anyway this metod didn t work for me
fastboot is the best and more simple than this, anyway is there a metod to flash recovery from the phone?

I know, but the method on the handset itself didn't work for him. Hence, just suggested the alternative of the same technique as in the OP
My phone has alpharevx s-off. I thought there was no need of pc and everything can be done from phone itself. But still it didn't work for me. Same error.
If there was a need of pc terminal, maybe the 1st post needs to be clear.

After a bit more reading, it seems "flash_image" must be present in /system/bin for it to work.

Yes. Now I can confirm that it works when there is "flash_image" (a file with no extension) is present in the path /system/bin/. Also the permissions of flash_image needs to be executable. Just flashed the recovery partition .
Download flash_image from the link given by 3xeno. The OP needs to be updated.

Requirements:
Huawei P8 Lite ALE-L21 (DUAL-SIM)
5.0 Firmware of choice
Unlocked bootloader
Patience
Correct drivers
SD card of atleast 8 GB
Drivers: Install these before even starting!
Minimal ADB Fastboot drivers
Huawei HiSuite
Kingoroot Windows
TWRP 3.0.2.0 Kirin variant
Preparing environment: Making sure no admin priveledge is necessary
Install all drivers mentioned above in their standard directories, don't change anything.
Go to the following path:
Code:
For x64 OS:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot
For x86_32 OS:
C:\Program Files\Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Copy these files:
Code:
adb.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
fastboot.exe
And paste them on the desktop, in a folder called "rootingtools" so you're easily able to find it.
Then, go to your phone and enable USB debugging mode by going to
settings - about phone - press Build number 7 times
settings - developer options - USB debugging
Copy the content of "TWRP-3.0.0-2_P8-lite_KIRIN_variant.zip" and paste it into the "rootingtools" folder.
Backing up: Even though the unlocking process is not going to wipe your data, atleast it didn't for me, make SURE you have everything that you need backed up from the phone's internal memory.
Backing up your SD card wouldn't hurt neither.
First things first, unlock your bootloader!
I used this: https://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin.php?id=unlock&mod=detail
What you do is: fill in everything correctly and get the number at the end. It should be something in the words of:
Code:
Your unlocking password is: XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX
(X resembles numbers, 16 numbers in total)
Copy the 16 numbers and go to the "rootingtools" folder on your desktop.
Hold the SHIFT key and right click inside the folder, then press "open command window here"
Now take your phone, power it off and power it on by holding volume DOWN and POWER.
You will get a white screen that says something like fastboot, and an android logo.
Plug your phone into the PC via USB cable.
In the command window write:
Code:
fastboot.exe oem unlock UNLOCKKEY
Where UNLOCKKEY represents the key you just copied, right clicking pastes the key in the command window.
It should return finished, so now your phone should be unlocked!
If you look at the screen, there will be text beneath the green Android logo saying "unlocked".
In this case, the operation has succeeded and you can go to the next step, else you can try again or post a reply.
Now write:
Code:
fastboot.exe reboot
Now the phone will boot up like normal.
Close the command window.
Android 5.0:
If your android version right now is Android 5.0, and you actually WANT to root 5.0 or anything below 6.0 you can proceed with this step, if you have 6.0 or want to root 6.0, skip this step.
Since your android version is 5.0 you're blessed!
You can easily root, but before proceeding you might want to make a backup
Make sure you have about 8GB of free storage either on an SD card or internal memory first.
Connect your phone to your PC in the booted-up state where you can see the homescreen, making sure that USB debugging is enabled.
Shift + right click inside the rootingtools folder to open a command window and write:
Code:
adb.exe reboot-bootloader
Your phone will reboot into the bootloader, a white screen with a green Android logo that says "unlocked" beneath it.
Now on the command window write:
Code:
fastboot.exe flash recovery recovery.img
Wait for it to finish and pull out the USB cable so it is NOT attached.
Power off the device by holding the power button, and power up by pressing volume UP + POWER.
Keep holding volume up until you see the Team Win logo.
Just slide the slider to the right.
Now go to "backup" and check every partition available.
In "name" you write:
Code:
MainBackupURTD
Then, go to the "options" tab and enable compression.
Go back to the "backup" tab and press "select storage".
From here you can choose where to back your data up, whether it be the internal storage or external SD card.
Press OK and swipe the slider to the right to start backing up.
Plug your phone in to make sure it doesn't power off during backing up, this process takes a while and you should let it do its thing.
When done, press "reboot system", your phone will reboot.
Let it fully start up.
Then, run Kingoroot on your PC.
Meanwhile, download the "SuperSU" app from the Play store.
Press the big "ROOT" button in Kingoroot and press "cancel" on every app your phone tries to install.
That way you will not install Kingoroot but SuperSU.
It will say "succeeded".
Now you can go on your phone and open the SuperSU app.
It will ask for an upgrade, press OK and go further with the normal installation (not the TWRP/CWM installation).
Let it do its thing and restart your phone.
Install any root checker and see if you're rooted!
Android 6.0:
Firmware version B188 or higher, below B524/B535 (excluding B524/B535):Upgrade firmware to this one: LINK (Link fixed)
Installation instructions: place file to the "dload" folder in your SD card or internal storage, then go to settings - updates - menu - local update and press the update.zip.
Then, follow the guide reported here: http://rootmygalaxy.net/root-huawei-p8-lite-android-marshmallow-6-0-update/
Enabling Gyro sensor (rooted android 6.0, B524/B535 firmware only! ( sorry :[ ) ):
Download attached file.
Put attached file to SD card.
Open ES file explorer, swipe to the right, enable root browser and click the R/W tab, then set /system as RW.
Then copy the attached file.
Paste the attached file in /system/etc/permissions
Press the search button and search for "gyro" without quotation marks.
Long press the only file that's there - menu and press properties.
Then change the permissions to 644, it should look like this O represents off, X represents on;
X X O
X O O
X O O
Set UID is off, Set GID is off, Sticky bit is off.
Reboot phone and download "Sensor box for Android" on the Play store and enjoy your gyroscope!
Now you can use Google Cardboard, though you have to install the APK...
You can watch 360 videos on youtube too.

Hiya, will the gyro hack work on a L02 B130 Android 5.0 as i can't get an update to 6.0 here in New Zealand?
unable to get unlock code
The Huawei ID used to apply for the unlock code has not been used on the device for more than 14 days.
@sevenaudio
As far as I know, the hack is for android 6.0 but there should be no problem in trying it out
It's just that it only worked for me on these FW
@DrLittle
I think Huawei has this policy of using your Huawei ID for 2 weeks (2 weeks online time) before you can unlock it
You could try sending them an email!

Hi, can you pinpoint what you were trying to do when it got stuck?
As in, what were you trying to flash.
And what is your phone model?

Disclaimer:
I am not responsible for what you do to your device, I tested these things for myself and posted it from my own experience, if you point the finger at me for whatever happens to your device, I will laugh at you.
HOWEVER, I am willing to help as long as it is asked kindly, and provided me with enough information.
Firmware version B188 or higher, below B524/B535 (excluding B524/B535):Upgrade firmware to this one: mega:///#!OBVU3RyT!gSDNFMVtWVqA1HyneCuofhFmVVJ6lUDonzfKzjucbFs

I have android 6.0 firmware B311 and it doesn't show up the option local update, what should I do?
Attach pictures please
Its in portuguese, I had the option on the stock ROM but i don't have it now.
Should I downgrade to the firmware B300 and then install the new firmware?
do you think this works with ALE-L21 single sim too?
