Hi all,
I flashed my Blackstone round about 100time since I get it last year.
Duty,Miri, kwbr, energy, xanny and so on.....even some not so public.
I found not even one which works bugfree.
In most case the phone function is slow.
Did nobody else got this problem ?
Is there one rom which works fast and without the slow phone function ?
what i mean is :
If you start a call and drop it....the phone takes seconds until it drops the call ...
I mean , its a phone...or isnt it ?
This is no feature. This is the most common basic funtionality which has to work....
So can someone tell me a working rom ?
Cheers
Alex
(my favorite is KWBRs 3.4.x with manila 2.1 atm)
if you feel kwbr ROM than stick with it...different people have different experience so the ultimate question about "Which ROM is the BEST???" can only solve and answered by the user it self
just try and try until you feel satisfied or if you feel not one ROMs here can satisfied you than maybe "stock ROM" is the best for you

+1 on that. by now i am already used to that, but this is something i used to be annoyed about from the beginning. when i end a call i takes way too long!
since it is a phone the phone function should be working fast and reliable (sometimes i cant end a call at all/it takes around 1 minute). isnt there anyway to accelerate the phone function?

By default, there's a 3 second delay when you hang up the phone. You can reduce this or turn it off via registry or one of several programs like "HTCPedia HD Settings Tool"
Hi Guys,
I have also flashed many on my Blackstone and i agree with you guys that most of the ROM's are sluggish !!!
But recently i have installed "[ROM] [WWE, GER] [16.01.10] BlackDragon 1.9 Speed King (Manila 2.5, WM 6.5)" .. this one works like a charm ... trust me its way better than the others and its fast too ... Not as fast as the stock one though ... but you still like the difference ...

i think it's more of a PDA than a phone
also, remember that ROM chefs focus on different parts of the ROM, making different things faster due to personal preferences. Also remember that there are limitations to Windows Mobile, making it a woeful user experience. Hopefully WM 7 will fix a lot of that - but if you can't put up with these limitations, i'd suggest switching to Android, iPhone, Symbian or WebOS

You got the answer already. simply NO.
In Advanced Config Tool you can remove the delay there is for example end call delay around 1500ms so you wrote 0 and the delay is gone.. i always do that no matter what ROM i use and this work for me

+ 1 on this
No roms are completely bug free as we are all using ported versions of wm6.5 as it hasn't been released for the HD, and never will.
Cooks are doing the best they can with the materials on offer. The latest roms (wm6.5, manila 2.5+) will always be more sluggish than manila 2.1, so why not try one of those. Plenty of threads already exist discussing this
EDIT
I've reopened thread by OP request

no its not about "which ROM is the best " !
its about a main issue in ALL roms !
Maybe I would have another favorite if main phone function wouldnt be buddy
And as you see I am not the only one...who ich at first interested in this.
All the additional options of the different Roms are quiete cool...
One better than another. But at least the whole ROM is nothing without the basic option.
And its a phone, no netbook, no notebook......

pda, phone.....however.
who cares about how it is called ? I think nobody.
What I bought is a cellphone at first.
With many other options......which are working fine.
A PC, notebook, netbook I got at least.
But how can it be that the very first option to call/be reachable is buggy?
Please remember...we dont talking about a 50$ cell !
There are 3 digits !
Last year, as I get it I payed 600€...
Further you day that one focus this option to be faster...someone else speeds up another app....
ahm...sorry that I dont understand why notbody picks up the main task in order to get a working cellphone.
And you say WinX will fix. Sounds like the same **** Microsoft told us as the made the roll out of Win98, SE , ME, XP. Vista and so on.
I cannot hear this anymore...sorry.
NOBODY is interested in NO-WORKING SOLUTIONS.
Look at the iPhone. Working. No problem.Happy users.
Is there no way to priorise the "phone-task"?

but 1500is NOT what we are talking about !
maybe its a step to the right direction.

there is no excuse for this....wheter from HTC nor from MS.
I remember a phone with a dialplate.....about 20 years ago.
As I wanted to stop a call - it did ! magic? I dont believe !

Tommorow I recieve my HD. Will try this rom first! Thanks for this tip!
Hi,
i also switched back to manila 2.1 in topix rom. great roms! no bugs, very good performance. but why no manila 2.5?
as i read htc has released a win6.5 rom with manila 2.5 for the diamond 2. diamond 2 and blackstone have almost the same hardware. and i guess that a officially released rom from htc cant be that laggy. so it should be possible to produce a rom like this for the blackstone. it doesnt have to have the newest packages.
would be highly appreciated if one of the chefs could look into a fix to prioritize the phone task.
flashing blackdragon now. thx for the hint.
hdizzel
btw: still waiting for a landscape only rom. does anyone know if something like this has been released by one of our dear chefs??
update: blackdragon fast but topix faster (manila2.1) as expected
Hello guys ,
This is my first offiicial post here at XDA and my first hands on experience with a touch HD.
I spent a lot of time reading the wiki and the rest of the forum to try and understand the fone hardware and the software. I've been trying to install basic applications to see if it betters the performance according to my needs.
Now , before i decided to buy the touch HD.. i did a lot of research myself and i narrowed it down to two options . Either the touch pro 2 or the HD. And i decided to go for the HD because I did not like the slide out keyboard and I simply love the HD design.
Now my question is , Although both the touch pro 2 and the HD are similar in terms of hardware is there any option where I could flash the touch pro 2 ROM to the HD ?
I was playing around with my friends touch pro 2 today and I felt for a second that I should have bought the touch pro2 because of the amazing speed at which the touch flo 3D works on that. [ oh btw ,it was a touch pro 2 sprint version ]
I just need the same ROM in my HD and I will be very happy
Is this possible ? If not , any suggestions for a particular ROM that would get me very close to the same experience I had with the touch pro 2 ?
just a few things
To comment on the last question, I would like to say that a friend of mine just got the Touch Pro 2 from Verizon and we have tried 4 or 5 different custom ROMs on it. I noticed that his touch pro 2 did seem to perform slightly better than my Touch HD. It was true for pretty much all the ROMs that we tried, so I don't think you going to find any satisfaction from a Touch Pro 2 ROM on your HD, and rightfully so because their not intended for the HD because of radios and landscape keyboards and proximity sensors and speaker phone capabilities, TV-OUT option on the Touch Pro 2 (not available for the HD) etc, etc, etc. They aren't the same phone and they don't get the same ROMs.
To improve performance on the few short things that were mentioned at the beginning of this thread, do try the registry hack to remove the delay for end call, it helped me. It also helped me to remove the dialer's key tone. This really did improve dialing speed because I am a speed dialer, its very important to me, the key tone slows it down and I could imagine that the vibration feedback (vibration on touch dial and keyboard and other actions) also slows the operation of the device. I have noticed because the vibration feedback does not feel tactile to me, turning it off completely helped me to regain some of the speed that I felt was missing. Also I have tried installing a more legacy dialer on top of the original ROM dialer, that also improved the performance of the phone feature. Do yourself a favor and try those things and make sure you address the serious problem of the hold button being pressed while holding the phone to your face, too bad the Touch HD didn't come with a proximity sensor like the Touch Pro 2 does! Keep flashing bros, this is half the fun!
Hi,
I wanted to know if there is any way to run a different OS on this phone that supports all of the hardware.
I love the specs of this phone - and the form factor, however, it doesn't matter which ROM I use, the phone is just so unbearably slow. Even with the light ROMs.
I simply hate Windows Mobile. The processor is not that slow - it should be able to do plenty - but everything takes 3 seconds at least to open. I've missed an inordinate number of phone calls just because the stupid send button takes 10 seconds to respond.
Is there any option at all to forgo a WM ROM and use a different OS entirely?
How can I take advantage of the amazing hardware - but not be dragged down by the software?
HELP!
Moved as not ROM Development.
Try flashing stock then ROM, changing Hard-SPL.. etc.
Never had problem with slow OS unless the ROM is an issue to which is very uncommon..
If it really takes 10 seconds to get the phone to answer a call...
One thing to check is memory -- Do you have a lot of stuff in your calls list or MMS texts? Clear them out.
Which ROMS have you tried? Any 6.1 or 6.5s?
There is no other usable OS now -- Android is getting close but it won't work with all the phone's components

The last ROM I flashed that's exactly what I did - I flashed to a stack ROM - changed the Hard SPL.
The ROM I love - Shifu did a phenomenal job - but after a while - everything just begins to lag...and it's not just this ROM - it's every ROM. After a few weeks - everything just starts to miss a beat and then slowly unravel.
I'm surprised that you've never had any problems with the OS - the consensus is that WM is a generally slow OS - I just thought maybe there's a way to take advantage of the great hardware in the phone without having to use this OS.
Thanks for the advice though.
If you have any other suggestions - they would be much appreciated.

Maybe not 10 seconds - but I have missed plenty of calls because the phone was completely unresponsive.
I do have a LOT of SMS' - maybe that's it. I just flashed to a new ROM (jjblaster3's 6.5) - it's great for now. I hope it stays that way. But they all start off great...you start installing a few programs and then nothing moves.
Thanks for the SMS/call history advice - I'll start clearing out now.
Anything else you can think of would be great.
I went through similar problems. Currently I am using the ROM "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428261". This was the best ROM that I tested for my Kaiser.
I was not very fan of windows mobile too, because that i installed android at sdcard and recently found a very good application "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623792" to streamline the boot process for the android, without having to wait for the windows mobile start and then boot the android. Android is fantastic, but as has already been said not everything works. The GPS and camera are the major problems yet.
Thanks

Thanks for the advice - I'm not going to head down the Android route yet...but I will check out the ROM you suggested. Have you tried any 6.5 ROMs you liked? I'm running jjblaster3 6.5 v2 right now.
Well personally, I like the STAXXX STYLE ROMs...they are 6.5.3...and VERY fast in my opinion.
ROM Suggestions
Thanks for the suggestion, any ROM recommendations would be much appreciated, here is what I'm looking for:
1) A fast ROM
2) No bugs with common things like text messages, bluetooth, WiFi, Internet
3) Good battery life
4) And if possible - 6.5 - but not mandatory
I know a LOT of hard work goes into cooking the ROMs, so I'm not complaining - but I've found that there are always small bugs that are real deal breakers for me.
I've tried:
1) AthineOS Manila Edition
Text issues, backlight issues
2) Shifu (3.2)
Text issues, screen rotation issues, wifi issues, phone got stuck a lot towards the end (had to soft reset twice a day at times)
3) Jjblaster3 v2
Battery life (very poor - need to charge twice a day) - because there is no easy way to switch between 3G and GPRS (any quick fix for this?)

hmm. ur using the 2.30? ver?
thats what i'm on. and i'm using the touchpro 2 skin.. and i've yet to have a single problem with it at all.. in fact i was using it on my xperia x1 so much that when i got the expo it was nearly the first thing in installed. love it to death. can view and dismiss calls and emails and texts and play music without ever unlocking my screen. have you tried removing/re-installing ?

u could always try a downgrade.. seeing as how the new version needed a hotfix for whatever reason and nothing in the changelog is something i can't live without... i'll stick with the older 2.30 version which does everything i need it to do .. almost..
thanks canoe i just d/l and installed the 2.30 version. and so far so good it's not having any of the hanging issues!!!
thanks
again
no problemo i usually wait to upgrade when there's like a MAJOR change. and i usually give it a few weeks to see what other people are saying about the update...
Hey guys
I had installed this back in Jan and found that I seemed to have less battery life when using it. Did read about others (non Expo/IQ) users having this issue. Has anyone else found this to be true on our devices? I've since removed it but kinda miss it.

Thanks jug6ernaut, I’ll reinstall it and play with it some more.
im with jug6ernaut.. i've been using this app since i think 1.44 and have never had a battery issue with it. and definately no noteworthy effect on batt life with this phone esp...
there's a few custom skins as well.. they can make it have even more EYE-CANDY
FYI s2u2 is up to S2U2 Updated to V2.34 now says fixed "occasional" hard to slide problem...i may test it later see if its fixed for me - has anyone tried yet?
i used it about 2 days and i had no problems except it using too much ram about 7mb so i dont use it any more but i really like it i guess ill wait till we get a clean rom to use it.
So are you guys using the fingerprint sensor with the s2u2? That seems kinda a lot to unlock the phone.
i have the fingerprint sensor to set to lock my phone after 15 mins and when i was using s2u2 i had it set to lock anytime i turned off the screen. it also worked great with s2p but my bluetooth hedset could not control it. using s2u2 with s2p you dont have to unlock to change song or change volume and it uses album art as your wallpaper.
I've been seeing a lot of activity of android development for windows mobile and I wanted to know if I should even bother loading Android on my device.
So I have a few general questions.
1. Can someone tell me how fast android runs on xperia? The reason I ask is because WM is great, but only when it's not lagging or freezing. I'm guessing it would lag just as much or more than WM since it's running on top of WM. (though some of my reading says that android is "not" runing at the same time as WM?)
2. At this point the main features Android on Xperia lacks is:
-reliable battery
-gps (According to this article gps should be coming soon to xperia right?)
-bluetooth?
-camera
3. Once all the above features are working it will be possible to make an android rom for the xperia?
That's it.
If Android is not too slow and the GPS and battery issue is fixed then I can see myself using Android on my Xperia.
Thanks in advanced for those who reply.
If you want a real phone OS you have to stick to WM for now. Android is "emulated" through Haret from within WM. Haret is supposed to reboot the device and make it so the device boots into Android, but it only runs off of the SD card. If you run an ultra-lite ROM it is almost like you are running an Android ROM, but it is still patchwork and the kernel is incomplete. So it will be a little slow and there will be some missing capabilities.
There has been a very promising improvement since the Xperoid began, and it is perfectly safe to test, but it is not yet ready for daily use, in my opinion.

1. Android is better than WM, and Faster.
2. Battery is almost fixed, GPS and Camera are coming after fixing battery.
3. when Android is working fine a ROM will be made naturally.
personally, I dont need GPS or camera.
Minus GPS and camera, which are two things which I really only use about once a week, Android is a perfectly acceptable replacement for WM. Battery will not get you through the day though.
Really it's not that hard to try it out, just give it a go and see if you like it. Keep in mind there will always be improvements being made.
At the moment, Android is just for fun. It's a really nice OS, and the work thats being done on this forum is staggering considering its being done by people UNPAID, and IN THERE OWN TIME! Sorry just like to stress that point to people who moan... Huge teams of HTC employees are on 60-70K a year writing code that these guys will probably end up doing a better job of for free, but I digress...
If you want to play around with HTC Sense on Android, which is my current toy, you have to make do without Wifi, GPS, Camera, but I don't experience the huge drop in battery life that everyone else does. Maybe I'm just lucky. If you're patient and wait for everything to load, I'd say that it is actually faster than WinMo. The Clean/Glossy versions have a greater capabilty (you get wifi and such like) and are even faster. Probably best to try that one first. Hope that answers your first two questions.
To the last, we're a long way off a ROM, but if things progress at their current rate I don't see why we can't have one some time before we all retire our Xperia's.
To your thread title, as long as you don't expect too much at this stage and you are willing to accept that this is just a "proof of concept" there's no reason not to try it. All you're loosing is half a GB on storage space on you're SD... And the more people that try it, the quicker bugs can be ironed out, and the major things like camera and GPS can be fixed.
Android is worth the workload. It's running smoth on the X1 and much better than WinMobile. Thanks to the developers.
I don't know why it has to Windows Mobile OR Android.
I for once really like the ability to have a multi-os system.
Therefor I try often new Xperoid builds and am quite impressed by the improvement.
Thanks to everyone working on it !

Time to replace my old HTC Diamond isn't ? On paper, the Galaxy seems by far the best option. However, users complain about GPS, which is very important to me, and lag which is quite annoying.
Are those problems solved when installing Froyo ? I don't mind modifying the phone as I have been doing it for a couple years with the Diamond.
The next best option seems to be the Nexus 1. I really don't know what to do !
Comments ?
The GPS problem is not fixed (at least for me) in Froyo JPK. If GPS is a key feature for you I would advise to wait for official Froyo to see if the GPS is fixed, or, alternatively, buy a different Android phone.
The lag problem is not fixed either, however you can root the phone and install Voodoo or one-click lag fix and that does fix the lag.
I love my Galaxy S but if GPS is really important to you then it is not the phone for you.
for me neither of the lag fixes actually impact on the day to day use of the phone, it still lags.
Yes my quadrant scores are a hell of alot faster but in real life the homescreen with widgets open still stutters
I am in the same boat currently, im impatient, but luckily in the position that if when froyo arrives it solves the issues, i can always go and purchase another SGS
There are numerous users who have experianced hardly any lag and good GPS performance, i unfortunatley am not one of those people no matter what rom i use

as for lag, real lag fix eg voodoo makes it fine for me, but froyo currently does not fix lag. Maybe final.
With the Galaxy Tab Froyo released and open source code as well we might see better fixes.
GPS not fixed in JPK.
here is my galaxy track recorded with My Tracks:

If you read here you will se many complain. But its not many that has this problem.
I do have a sgs phone without lag and gps do work.
My girlfriend did buy one yesterday. Well that has no lag either. Have nite tested hers gps yet.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
GPS is fixed with JPK.. it locks in less then 3sec. even got a look inside in about 5sec.. big improvement.
Problem is not the fix but the accuracy.
Keep in mind, everyone is testing with beta releases. The final release might change everything..

To me, it looks like a software issue rather than gps hardware

But realistically, we have no way of knowing for sure..
GPS works like a charm on jpk here, I've been to several addresses this week already!
Lag, .. what lag? oh the occasional 1 or two second waiting for an app to open that happen once or twice the week? Not a real turn-down though =/
And within the -4 weeks of abusing jpk i had maybe twice or trice that it was very sluggish, pretty much locking up or freezing up,.. while acting normal later on.
Happy about it, but it's missing the finishing touch i had in the original rom (certain options)

Thank you all for your interesting comments. Mike, your GPS tracks convinced me. I understand that not all SGS have the GPS problem but I don't want to take the chance and get a bad one. I ordered a N1, which is back-ordered for about 2 weeks - if a fix comes for the GPS before I receive the N1, I'll cancell the order to get a SGS.
