I wanted to ask before I did it. If I transfer all my data that is on my 4gig card to my 8gig card and switched it out would it be fine? I have a lot of back up files and stuff on my 4gig, but doesn't the new card have to be formatted before you can use it? Sorry, I'm real stupid when it comes to external storage.
Thanks,
Alex
It does have to be formatted as a fat32 drive, which you can do in Windows.
I did the same thing though (transferring from one card to another) and it worked fine.

Cool, Thanks.
You're gonna be just fine transferring content from a 4GB to an 8GB SD. Just watch out for potential hidden files that might not get copied in the process. Usually they are either temporary or cache files that will get regenerated when you use the new SD for the first time.
When I put my card in the card reader my computer doesn't find it, then I put it back in my phone and it's fine. What could be the issue? Would a PNY micro sd adapter work with a sandisk micro sd card?
Well, I found out it was my card reader. It wouldn't detect anything over 2gigs. That's odd, but I got it to work at home. Thanks for all the help.

i have tried this with 2 different micro sd cards. both 1gb. 1 sandisk, the other is a samsung. both work fine in the g1 and if i connect to my laptop (windows) i can access the files and everything as normal. when i right click and tell it to format however it ejects itself and i have to remount. i do not have an adapter to put it in my card reader, so this is the only way i can do it. can anyone tell me what i'm either doing wrong or a quick fix for this?
dont know man cuz i didnt hve that problem sorry dude
The g1 doesn't like it when you do that. If you don't have the adapter. Your only option that I know of is to format it is from android itself in the system options. Sorry to hear about your situation

I have/had the same issue, so i will tell you what i did and maybe it will help. I formatted my sd card on the RC33 update in fat32 and from the computer.(when the g1 liked the sd card).
My suggestion if you don't want to downgrade to upgrade..is to stick the card in another phone that can connect to your computer and format it that way.
Upgraded to cupcake (what ever version you want). Then the g1 was reading my 4gb card wrong. So i removed all info on the sd card just copied to folder on pc and formatted the sdcard through the phone. From there it was reading the card correctly. To go on, i then partitioned with apps2sd. Placed all info back on sd card and waa laa...like magic...or dream...or hero...i dunno confusing...who's on first?
Help,
After i flashed my KAISER i have a problem. The sd card is not recognised anymore. Is there a solution for this problem?
I hope so, otherwise i have a brick
Storage card problem
I always used a 4 gig card, just tried an 512 mb card, and that one was recognised. Strange isn't it?
First, which method did you use to flash your new ROM?
If you used the USB method to flash your new ROM, did you remove your SD card during the flash process?
If you used the SD card method to flash your new ROM, did you do a hard reset with your SD card inserted?
Second, do you have an SD card reader for your computer? I would probably try to verify that the file system and data are intact on your SD card. If you have an SD card reader, you can also use it to reformat your card.
If none of this is helpful, provide some more information to fill in the gap between your microSD card working properly and not showing up on your phone.
Re
I flashed to TPCV5.1 full today. No sd in my phone.
My cars reader in the computer doesn't recognise the sd card either.
Strange thing is , when i use an other 4 gig sd card, the phone still doesn't recognise it, my card reader on my computer does, so why not on my phone.
I had a 2 gig sd card, and put all the data again on it, and it's working.
Stilli have a problem that my phone won't recognise a 4 gig sd card.
So far my story.
Does seem odd. What file system is your 4GB card formatted with? If it shows up as "RAW" or anything, I would definately format it to FAT32.
Edit: I was referring to your "other" 4GB card. I don't think I have any advice for the original one.
Alright so this is really odd and I've never seen this before and I couldn't find anything on it in the forums. So my problem is that I just got a 32gb micro sd card, I formatted it to FAT32 and it works just fine in Windows and in my Nook. So here's the problem... when I add files to the sd through windows they don't appear on the micro sd card on android. I believe they continue to go to the LOST dir on the sd card and in a very odd format. I know I should be able to do this because I have an 8gb micro sd card that I can do this with just fine. The really odd thing is, if I dropbox files to the sd card or copy files from the EMM to the micro sd card they show up just fine... Can anybody help me? This is a real pain in the ass as I would really like to just be able to connect the card or the nook to my computer and just throw files on it.
gets even stranger...
So now this is really really strange... so adding files to the card through the cable to the nook they won't show up in android and when I had the card hooked up to a card reader and added them they also wouldn't show up in android. I just tried the card reader that they supplied and then threw files on it and now the files show up in android. VERY VERY ODD, I can't think of a single explanation for this...
EDIT: I was wrong, so apparently its only if I transfer over folders this card has no idea how to handle them in android. If I put all the files in the root directory without folders its fine. Anybody know what would cause this?
Who formatted the card using what method? You want the tablet to do it using FAT32.
After connecting to USB on my laptop yesterday it appears i cannot write to SD card... it tries to but when I do it from the lockscreen, it crashes when it asks for my unlock gesture... the phone restarts and all the images taken since then (yesterday) are gone...
I'm unrooted on Android 4.3 is there any way to recover my pictures???

You may need to format your 64gb to a Fat32 format via a computer.. hope that helps.

I was trying to install a rom but every time I would insert my sdcard it would not recognize it.
In the other sd slot it works fine.
What is the purpose of the gps card? To store maps?
Thanks,
Chris

Looks like your gps card slot broke.
It should ready any file(not the maps alone)
It was a 64gig card. Maybe I should try a smaller one.
Nevertheless I'm using the SD slot and USB without any problems.
My HUs gps card didnt work from day 1 either.
However sd and usb works. Missing mtc keys module

If it is a 64 Gig SD card did you format it with FAT32? Otherwise it will not work.
