Quick question about video/ audio - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Whenever I play a video (on my pc) I shot with my n1 it wont play any sound. if i watch the vid on the n1 itself it does play sound. How can I solve this?
forgive my bluntness

You need to download the correct codecs for PC.

And where can we find those?
Don't say install Apple Quicktime
/E

Try Shark007 codecs or just install VLC.

quick time indeed works, but vlc will not play sound. Any 3gp converter will probably work as well

Video from the Kiser on a PC

OK, so I have recorded a Video on my phone and can see it with the PPC Media Player v10 on it.
I get this .mp4 file to my PC. Now what? Windows Media Player has no friggin support to view .mp4 files!
I found alternative viewers, that all nice, but how do I convert this so I can see it on any pc or inclusively upload to lets say YouTube?
Try Quicktime....
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/
VLC media player...
Thanks to both of you. I tried both, and VLC actually has no audio...
Re: Quicktime, yes, it is pretty ubiquitous, but requires QuicktTime to be installed.....
I need to convert this to something more portable?
I changed to the other format.

what , where?
In the settings of your camera you can change the format it creates. Put the phone into video mode and then go into the camera settings.
You just need to get the right codec pack to enable Windows Media Player to support .mp4 files. A quick google search for 'windows media player mp4' turned up what looks to be a good howto on the subject:

I see. I will give the h.263 a test.. not sure yet what characteristics this codec has... let me google it...
Great. Now I am able to see the video on my PC... but still haven't found a nice (aka free) conversion app that would allow this to be seen on other computers.
Anyone with good and free application suggestions?

I envy you guys. I still own my O2 xda iis and like it very much. I wish I could afford this. I just want one that's unlocked.
The KLite Codec Pack, which is really handy (tons of codecs in one install) gives WMP support for the MP4 and h263 vids. 3GP can only be played in Quicktime, I belive. Quality wise, they should all be about the same (pretty terrible).

Playing the .mp4 recorded on my phone..?

What is everyone using to play the video recordings they've made with their phones on their Windows machines?
The format is .mp4 and doesn't play nice on my box...
TW,
Everyone is using Google... seach for mp4 player and you'll find the answer.
However, I use VLC, which opens everything except for doors.
It seems odd that a phone that runs MS software can't play it's own recordings...?
Google, what's that?
I have the opposite problem. I can't replay video on my phone, but it plays fine on the PC.
To play stuff you need codecs. VLC doesn't need codecs. Just google codecs for your PC. I have K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (I think that's what it's called). I use WMP to play everything. It works better than VLC now. And as for the poster above, same thing except you need codecs for your phone. I suggest you download TCPMP. What file type are you trying to run?

so the phone that takes video in mp4 can't play it without another program?
cause I'm having the same problem.
I take video with my camera, can I watch the video on my phone after that?
nope. (I'll search the forums but it's just strange since WM6 was fine; I could take video and play it on my phone fine, I think, I can't remember anymore)
I find that if I rename them with a .3gp extension they play fine in quicktime and in WMP (after setting the association or using "open with"). The same files with the original .MP4 extension choke in both (different issues, but neither play them correctly).

they are already named .3gp, which may be the problem since my phone doesn't play .3gp files.
I can't change the extension to mp4 either.
not only that but i can't play them on my computer; this is crazy since my computer can play anything.
I just convert mine: http://media-convert.com/convert/index.php
works well and it's pretty quick. I usually move the video to my PC first but I bet I could upload it using Skyfire.

Diamond video

Hello everyone,
when i transfer videos that i've recorded from my diamond to my computer, there is no sound in the video, is it normal?
Thanks for your answers.
have you installed all codecs for your computer?
Like kazaa-codec pack?
Check in the camera settings if you have: Record with audio on or off.
@ riel
i haven't yet installed the kazaa codec pack, i've just tried to play the video from VLC and Windows media player.
@sergio pc
when i play the video on my Diamond its ok, there is sound. it's only when i play the video on my computer that there's no audio.
the video format is not compatible by default with desktop windows media player and hasnt been for years on HTC devices - a real pain. One of my early devices allowed me to choose to record in AVI which was great.
You can try selecting the capture format to H.263 because I think from memory it is more compatible but I think the quality is worse.
I did notice when nosing around in the registry of my Diamond that there was some refernce to AVI in the camera settings. I started a thread on it to see if we could get AVI enabled but no one seemed that bothered which I thought was strange.
Sorry forgot to say that they do play in Quick Time ok which is bl**dy frustrating as I hate Quick Time (and iTunes!!!)
forget that - I cant seem to get them to play in Quick Time anymore.
Try using http://www.mediaconverter.org/ or an offline tool like Xilisoft

try to google first .... like "k-lite player"
Good luck and enjoy you Diamond !!!
Here's an article on how to use videos taken from your Diamond - both adding codecs on your PC and converting the media to an avi file (from PC or on your phone itself): http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=981
thanks a lot guys, i've downloaded kazaa codec pack and it's working now
Thank you all it worked great with me too after downloading the K-Light.
can I ask you where you downloaded the kazaa codec from, as usually so many come up when you google it and most look dodgy, any help!

[Q] 720p Mkv laggin

Sorry for starting a new thread, but I searched and couldn't find answers.
I'm trying to play 720p mkv files and they are all stuttering in my CM7 kang and etana kernel. Youtube 720p videos are ok, but the only way I could find to play my files was converting then to 640x480 (someone wrote that in some thread).
Is there any other way to play these files?
Maybe not enough ram. Tuurn off some apps

which player are you using? Try using MX Video Player or Mobo player.
Try bs player lite

I've tried all them, but have no luck. Do you really can always see any kind of 720P?

The built-in player (and all other players usig "hardware acceleration") works for some videos, for some others software-decoders work (mx player has a pretty good one).
BUT, you will not be able to play everything on this phone. "Hardware decoder" only supports up to a certain specification and "software decoding" is limited by the processor (overclocking might help a _little_ here).

Weird, I have same rom and kernel right now, plays ok even in HDMI the only problems this have is with 1080p with high profile, or some main (see bitrate), simple profile plays good.
when i play 720p mkv files i get a little stutter and audio-video sync problems. A 720p mp4 files plays perfectly though.

[Q] Can't watch my own movies/videos

I've transferred some of my own movies and tv shows that are in .mp4 format on the KFHD. They don't play correctly as they keep jumping from scene to scene and everything is pixelated.
Am I using the right format? I converted my .avi to .mp4 and they aren't working =[

It shoud be Divix codec format for example. Try to use MX Video player, its free on market. It opens almost all formats that i tryed.
mx works great with software decoder, i was able to play a 1.4gb 720p mkv earlier with no issues
Although its still nightly builds only, VLC will play pretty much anything that its desktop counterpart does which means it supports many formats. You can give it a try, get the latest apk from here:
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/android-v7-neon/
Thanks a lot Spunker, VLC is the only player that has worked with least amount of issues for me
VLC is listed as "incompatible" for a KFHD at the Playstore. Anyone got an alternate source?
Sent from my KFTT using XDA Premium HD app
Nevermind, got it at the listed url.
