This is from a Non-Sprint CDMA Hero. Can it be rooted without applying Sprint RUU first? The intention is to root it, take a backup with nandroid and if anything goes wrong when upgrading it to 2.1, have a chance to put it back as it was since there is no Ruu floating around as it is for Sprint. Also, should we backup (if possible) other critical parts like PRI, Radio, etc... just in case?

so I have tired everything so please don't tell me to go google it or link me to the how to.
I have a CANADIAN HTC Dream so I'm going to make this as detalied as I can. my goal is to install a custom ROM.
So the info:
Model number: HTC Dream
Firmware version: 1.5
Baseband version: 62.52s.20.18u_3.22.20.17
Build number: 1.85.631.5 146733 CL#33863
I don't know if you need all that.
so what I have tried so far is:
the one click root method when I try it it wont boot into the recovery mode I tried multiple times.
I tired your manual method but when I go to the downgrade step it tells me model ID incorrect! then update failed.
so how can I root the thing like I said I have (now) tried everything I could find.
Have you tried this method? it is the way to root rogers phones, i assume you have rogers.
Have you checked it via the goldcard way?
if not chek my sig
Hmm wow, seems like the manufactures are making it harder and harder to root... I am so glad I have the original G1 now
Hello guys!
I'm new with the android OS, so I would like to ask your help with my problem. My intention was originally to flash Cyanogen mod to my newly bought phome. I succesfully rooted my 1.1 firmware G1, and after that, I managed to replace the original recovery console with CyanogenMod Recovery 1.4 through flashrec.
In the recovery console I flashed to the "signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-img-14721.zip" which i've downloaded from the HTC developer page. Everything went fine, but after the flashing completed I accidentaly hit the reboot option before I could start the Cyanogen flash.
So eventually I made an 1.6 firmware Android Dev Phone 1 which I didnt wanted to.
Can I change it back to a regular phone with a previous firmware or I stuck with this forever?
I couldnt install flashrec anymore, and the Cyanogens recovery console has been replaced with the original one. When I try to install HardSPL the installiaton aborts itself about halfway. I tried to downgrade through bootloader with an RC7 dreaimg, but it sad "not allowed". Maybe good news is that I made a backup with Nandroid before the flashing, but as I read in order to restore it I need HardSPL.
Details:
T-Mobile G1 (Drea110 PVT 32B; HBOOT-0.95.0000; CPLD-4)
Model number: Android Dev Phone 1
Firmware version: 1.6
Baseband version: 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version: [email protected] #19
Build number: dream_devphone-userdebug 1.6 DRC83 14721 test-keys
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
gubika
Just flash dreaming.nbh in bootloader
Thank you for your answer. I tried it, but in a gray screen a text popped up: "checking..." and shortly it said: "002802 not allow". After that the default color striped bootloader screen appeared without any options.

Hey so I did something that I am really kicking myself for yesterday. As seen in my other thread, I was having issues with getting Google Voice from the Market. So guess what I did? I did a freaking OTA update on my nice new Hero that I just got yesterday. And guess what? Unrevoked won't work on it now.
So, I'd like to toss out my info and see if anyone has had luck downgrading with an old RUU. I tried one from the 2.1 root thread and it failed to flash.
Firmware: 2.1 update 1
Baseband: 2.42.01.04.27
Build: 2.27.651.6 CL169236 release-keys
software ver: 2.27.651.6
It seems to have a newer version of fastboot and hboot that won't let me flash from the SD card (forgive my noobish wording)

I had just used the *.5 RUU to flash over a .6 not 5 days ago. Worked just fine. Was located in the 2.1 Root thread. Second post.
Yeah, sorry for the false alarm folks, I just tried it again with debugging turned off on the device and it flashed fine.
Hey guys,
I have htc g1 and was wondering if I need to downgrade my firmware for installing cynogenmod 6
Information about phone:
Firmware version: 1.6

Kernel version: [email protected])
Build number: dream-user 1.6 DRC83 14721 ota-rel-keys
Production team: www.HIAPK.com Ver 3.0_g1_ion
Cheers.
Yes, you do! You need to downgrade and root your G1.
Just found out that the phone has already been rooted. I typed su into terminal and I got to the next line with #. I guess it is rooted, yeah?
hmmmm.... im pretty sure if you have 1.6 than you are not rooted, is it DMD40? or you might just have a custom donut rom if you are rooted... anyway follow this guide

I am confused now. I have been reading this article:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.p...Firmware_to_CyanogenMod#Rooting_the_HTC_Dream
Do you reckon, I can just downgrade my phone by downloading RC29 (US) (since I have a T-Mobile G1), and skip the rooting step, and go to Installing a Custom Recovery Image step?
Your help is much appreciated.
leet_2k
well basically when you downgrade and install the custom recovery, that is considered rooting! but there so many good roms out now that if you follow the guide all the way to get the 28.25 radio and 0013d spl you can flash the latest and greatest roms
Alright, I'm trying to update my phone to the latest Android version because my Snapchat wont work and the phone is just acting weird sometimes, but I can't figure out what to do.
I tried following this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPPT5J8xG6w
But my CID (SPCS_01) is no where to be found on this list:

Have you looked in the Sprint section for what you are looking for?
