Hey guys, I used to be on the Windows Mobile side, but now I'm on Android and I need your help.
My 2.1 Sprint Hero has just been rooted. The only reason I did this was in the hopes that I could, somehow, get the Vanilla Android UI back. However, sometimes I want the Sense UI. In short, I'd like to have my eclair and eat it too *ba dum tish*. So if there is an apk or some sort of rom that can give me that, that'd be perfect.
If there isn't, fine. I can do without the sense UI, but I need my phone to work. And by work, I mean the camera has got to preview, the GPS has to function, etc, etc...
Any tips?
I believe Fresh is Sense based and you can use LauncherPro or ADW Launcher for the "vanilla" feel and home switcher to switch between the 2

Both Red Dawn and Blue Echo are by Papa Smurf and based off of Fresh (include Sense), and they overclock, undervolt, all that jazz. They incorporare vanilla aspects side-by-side with Sense, like the contacts and dialer. And they look sweet.
If you want full AOSP, check cSrOm (Buufed). Its themed out too, and fast as hell.
Good luck!

Purehero for the vanilla AOSP thing.

Okay, I got my G1 today, The problem i have is love to take pics. The Cyanogen cam is UGLY. The gray frame looks like crap. Any ROMs out there that have a good camera app and 3D Gallery? Also Cyanogen Mod is kinda okay. I am looking for ROMs with more visual Style. I prefer Eclair. Suggest em please. =]
Check here.. Rom Bible
There are few camera apps in the market..try those...

The 3D gallery is nice and all, but it's also really not the most efficient. I greatly lust after the HTC Album app and am half-tempted to switch to a Sense ROM, but before I reach that point, surely there must be a third-party picture viewer somewhere that's decent? I don't need flashy 3D effects, I just want something that's functional and if it works more or less like HTC album, that'd be a plus too.
You can switch to Enomther's ROM and enjoy HTC Album port
Actually, I don't understand - what exactly is lacking in the 3D Gallery? Most of Desire ROMs port it for Desire, since lots of Desire people are asking for it - I guess Nexus has it, so people ask for HTC Album?
It's lacking in that each folder is spaced too far apart from the next. Takes quite a while to scroll all the way to whichever folder you're looking for, and the bounciness doesn't help. Also, it's slooooooow and sometimes you need to unmount/remount SDcard just to have new images appear.
I use the Bread & Butter Multi Touch Gallery, very functional and it has better picture rendering than the stock 3D Gallery, just not as attractive.

No. people want other gallery because it's [email protected](@&#$(*)@&# slow.
1. take picture
2. click the small new thumbnail to check picture
3. see the 3d gallery with no picture displayed
4. stay like this from 5sec to 1min
5. see pic.
it's just ridiculous.
stock N1 here. no root, not a single app that has startup permissions. no multitask 'tweaks'.
Hmm. Not the case here. Tweaked to the bone custom ROM, and the picture loads fast, though I use HTC Camera and have to click additional 2 times for it.
On the other hand, when I tested it right now for this thread, it was the first time I actually did that in a very long time. I check the picture in the 1/2 sec when it's "frozen" after taking it, it's enough for me to know if I want to take another one.
Well, I see the reasons people might want another gallery. It's that I had a look at my friend's Desire with HTC Album, and I didn't find it pleasing at all - not to the eye, not in functionality.

I've used a Sense ROM before, and HTC Album is great for the simple fact that it simply displays a grid of pictures. No useless fancy stuff--it's just faster. Oh, the video player that comes with it is also better than stock Android's.
@daveid: thanks, I'll try that one! I picked up Just Pictures! and gave it a whirl, and while it's both attractive and fairly functional, zooming in it is incredibly clumsy and the dratted thing doesn't let you delete folders. Oh well.
Hello All,
I recently installed cm7 to my DHD and noticed that the camera is different from that of the Native DHD Sense.
Does anyone have the Native DHD Sense Camera apk that i can use to install?
If not are there any solutions to this dilema other than installing a Sense rom?
Please help.
Thanks.
I tried just to copy HTCCamera.apk from a Sense ROM to /system/app on CM7 and unfortunately but as expected it did not work.
I also do not like the stock Camera in CM7 and i switched back to Revolution HD.
Would be great if someone gets HTC Camera to work on CM7 ROM.
I can upload HTCCamera.apk, if anyone wants to work on it...
thanks for the reply..
i was readin some threads, and it seems that this request has been out for some time now, but the dev's not really taking it on much
The htc camera app requires the htc framework......

I´m looking for it too, I´m trying now lgcamera app while we can not have the sense camera in gingerbread, I´ve tried vignette, camera 360, camera zoom fx but i always come to stock camera..
hey. did anyone ever have a solution for this? I recently switched to Sense 3.5 and was reminded of the great camera Sense had.
are any new great camera apps out?
there are quite a few camera apps much better than the stock one, but i have yet to find any good camcorder apps with touch to focus...
The only somewhat passable camcorders are Miui and LGCamcorder but both dont have touch to focus while filming.
Download MIUI ROM and extract the MIUI. Camera app. Install just as any other app from SD. It looks very nice, with all the transparency and touch focus like the one in sense roms. It only misses the after effects options.

I also looking for a good Cam.apk too...
The sense camera will never work on a CM or miui based rims as they, are missing vital closed source drivers.
There, I extracted the miui camera .apk for those of you who would need it
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3078123/MiuiCamera.apk
It's not the sense camera but it looks nice and supports touch focus.
Optionally you can try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970459
It's Sense for CM7 (theme chooser). Description says it introduces the sense framework so you might actually be able to run the native sense camera app.
I did it
If you want I did it with this...
Don't ask me how I did it... install with clockword.
This is even better with the right 720P resolution and various effects!!!
Enjoy
The zip installed but it did nothing.

can anyone confirm this actually works?
Sorry... install in recovery mode...
Which GUI do you like or use more?
No Sense here...
I can never make my mind up. i like the stock Gingerbread, its simple and quick, where as the Sense can sometimes cause a bit of lack with the clock changing or the widgets being so big. But at the same time i miss the sense and its integration with the whole system. The dialer, phonebook etc looks so much nicer.
atm im using the RCMix HD rom, which is pretty damn quick and has sense. so im happy for now. may change my mind in a month or two.
Gingerbread for me. Although I do like a bit of the original HTC flip clock from time to time, especially the one with the flip animation
I can't decide which look I like more. I like the functionality of Sense UI and how everything ties together, But I like the speed of Gingerbread.
I like the Gingerbread UI. It feels like to the point, without the frills and hassles.

I agree. I just flashed a Desire-HD rom , and tried it for a bit. But, I quickly became bored with it fast...
gingerbread all the way
I just go between RCSDSmix Sense/MIUI-Dev/CM Nightlies
Usually just flash whichever has latest update and move to new one when it updates
It's like which color of shirt do I wear today
The advantage of root
I'm a little of both.
I only really like the weather unlock animations, weather app and new 3.0 lockscreen from Sense. Besides that, I like the simplicity and look of stock gingerbread
you can find a replacement theme, alternate apps and widgets..
although you wont ever get that tight sense ui integration
but sense roms are very plain.. theres things i miss about it here and there but not as much as i enjoy playing around with cyanogenmod roms and customizing every little bit of it
I'm personally torn between the two, but that's the nice thing about the Nexus One (especially when the bootloader has been unlocked).
I'm a fan of Sense, and it's the only UI I like. There's just something about it, and I think a few of you touch upon some of the reasons why I like it. I don't know if it's because it makes the phone seem more user-friendly, but I know it's something. It just feels solid. As far as functionality goes, it makes the phone feel like it has a fully-functioning OS. There are just so many little unique customizations that make the phone more user-friendly.
On the other hand, I'm a big fan of CM7. Quite possibly the best iteration of Gingerbread on the streets. The speed of Gingerbread, especially in CM7, is mind-blowing (especially when you think how far things have come since the early days of Eclair in January 2010). I sometimes feel "homesick" when I'm using a Sense ROM.
I think it boils down to what you want out of your ROM. Sense is rigid. Vanilla Gingerbread allows you to make things how you want it. I will say this though: the stock camera app sucks. The Sense camera is tons better.
Just my 2 cents.
There is no properly functional Sense ROM for Nexus for at least a year.
UI- and usability-wise, since DesireHD's Froyo versions Sense beats both stock Gingerbread and CM7 by a large margin. But unfortunately it can only be seen on Desire, since Nexus doesn't have proper functionality in those ROMs.
I think SenseUI is the better one.
ROM flasher... i flash wherever i want RCADSmix SENSE > CM7 > MIUI .... which one suit the mood..
The gingerbread interface is better Pure android experience!
