Which GUI do you like or use more?
No Sense here...
I can never make my mind up. i like the stock Gingerbread, its simple and quick, where as the Sense can sometimes cause a bit of lack with the clock changing or the widgets being so big. But at the same time i miss the sense and its integration with the whole system. The dialer, phonebook etc looks so much nicer.
atm im using the RCMix HD rom, which is pretty damn quick and has sense. so im happy for now. may change my mind in a month or two.
Gingerbread for me. Although I do like a bit of the original HTC flip clock from time to time, especially the one with the flip animation
I can't decide which look I like more. I like the functionality of Sense UI and how everything ties together, But I like the speed of Gingerbread.
I like the Gingerbread UI. It feels like to the point, without the frills and hassles.

I agree. I just flashed a Desire-HD rom , and tried it for a bit. But, I quickly became bored with it fast...
gingerbread all the way
I just go between RCSDSmix Sense/MIUI-Dev/CM Nightlies
Usually just flash whichever has latest update and move to new one when it updates
It's like which color of shirt do I wear today
The advantage of root
I'm a little of both.
I only really like the weather unlock animations, weather app and new 3.0 lockscreen from Sense. Besides that, I like the simplicity and look of stock gingerbread
you can find a replacement theme, alternate apps and widgets..
although you wont ever get that tight sense ui integration
but sense roms are very plain.. theres things i miss about it here and there but not as much as i enjoy playing around with cyanogenmod roms and customizing every little bit of it
I'm personally torn between the two, but that's the nice thing about the Nexus One (especially when the bootloader has been unlocked).
I'm a fan of Sense, and it's the only UI I like. There's just something about it, and I think a few of you touch upon some of the reasons why I like it. I don't know if it's because it makes the phone seem more user-friendly, but I know it's something. It just feels solid. As far as functionality goes, it makes the phone feel like it has a fully-functioning OS. There are just so many little unique customizations that make the phone more user-friendly.
On the other hand, I'm a big fan of CM7. Quite possibly the best iteration of Gingerbread on the streets. The speed of Gingerbread, especially in CM7, is mind-blowing (especially when you think how far things have come since the early days of Eclair in January 2010). I sometimes feel "homesick" when I'm using a Sense ROM.
I think it boils down to what you want out of your ROM. Sense is rigid. Vanilla Gingerbread allows you to make things how you want it. I will say this though: the stock camera app sucks. The Sense camera is tons better.
Just my 2 cents.
There is no properly functional Sense ROM for Nexus for at least a year.
UI- and usability-wise, since DesireHD's Froyo versions Sense beats both stock Gingerbread and CM7 by a large margin. But unfortunately it can only be seen on Desire, since Nexus doesn't have proper functionality in those ROMs.
I think SenseUI is the better one.
ROM flasher... i flash wherever i want RCADSmix SENSE > CM7 > MIUI .... which one suit the mood..
The gingerbread interface is better Pure android experience!

I for one, would like to see the xperia 10's andoid version because it looks really cool, and something different. Or sense(Not expresso, looks like its trying to be a iPhone).
What about you guys?
xperia x10
I'ld really like to have only the timescape and mediascape on 2.1
Working espresso would be nice... I mostly just wanna see full Cyanogen goodness. JAC's CyanogenMod-based Eclair xROM for Dream is amazing... I'd love to have a 2.1 CyanogenMod/xROM. But seriously, I'd love to play with Espresso, especially if they get everything working. It'd be blazin' fast on the Nexus.
Windows Mobile.
Wait, wut?
CyanogenMod.
Would love to see hero running on this bad boy, I came from the G1 and it didn't run very good on it.

Second that. The multimedia features look crazy good. If they could just take that aspect and maybe Sense, then it would be a great ROM imo.
X10 or just plain Android. Whatever runs fastest and smoothest is good for me for every day stuff.
Something with more multitouch
Mediascape and Timescape do look good.
I've just watched some demos on Yuotube, but it's got to be said the Xperia 10 is VERY choppy........
I would like Exchange working *including calendar* without paying $20 for Touchdown or having to root my wifes phone.

I use the MotoCal calendar from Droid, combined with the Android Agenda Widget from the Market. Works flawlessly for me.
I would like SenseHERO ROM to be ported to the N1, but I also want to keep the N1's native new features - such as the Live Wallpapers.
I dont really dig any of the skinned android ui's, however it would be great to have a vanilla 2.1 rom that incorporated some of the MotoBlur stuff without having the complete Blur UI. In particular Im thinking the FB widget, and Blur numerical lock screen.
Extra points if the rom can also incorp the Sense mail widget. Dont know if its possible to mesh the two frameworks, but I can dream...
this might sound wierd bout i would like too see donut on my n1 so i can theme it
I just want the original 2.0 lockscreen with the arc. It looked a lot better IMO then the newer one does. Also the nexus is theme-able in it current state, just can't do anything with services.jar yet (so no white text in status bar).
As the Nexus One has almost identical specifications and hardware as the HTC Touch HD2 (besides the screen, and non N capable wireless?)
Does that mean we can hope for some Android love to the HD2?
If that so I would get the HD2 over Nexus simply because I find it superior, eventhough it lacks a AMOLED screen.
Id love to see SE's Nexus UX ported over. Im sure with the 512mb ram that the N1 has will make the UI silky smooth.
On another note, I just cant seem to understand why Google decided on a white notification bar. It boggles my mind, esp considering that most people get black phones. They really need to add a built in Metamorph for changing between a white and black theme...
Is it possible to make the new miui lockscreen flashable just like the miui camera is?
Should be able to. Just try to push it to system/app before you do just to make sure its gonna to work first.
The lockscreen in miui isn't an apk so I don't think it is that easy. I doubt their lockscreens will work on other rom's either.
Oh ok. well I don't know much about miui. Im sure someone could figure it out though
Just use MIUI its better anyway.... Has Iphone, sense3.0, and gingerbread lockscreens without zips to install just go into themes...
I'm pretty sure it's tied into the framework... so, lots of work to do there if you're truly interested, haha. I'd use MIUI but CM7 is just faster and there's a million more, IMO, useful customization features compared to MIUI... pretty much the whole Cyanogenmod Settings tab. The one thing that really bugs me about MIUI is the menu system. It's beautiful, as it replicates that of the iPhone, but it's always been so laggy for me, I can't deal with it.

That's a shame. From the pictures, it looks like a combination between the honeycomb ring/ripple-lock and the sense 3.0 ring-lock. Both of which I like, so the newest miui lockscreen had me all excited. Lol

MIUI is built from open source but the rom itself isn't open source. It simply isn't possible.
MIUI > Vanilla Android
I was a loooooooooong time CM6 and CM7 user. But the latest MIUI is blazing. IMHO it's faster than CM7 in day to day use (I don't benchmark) and more stable.
MIUI has so many hidden subtleties throughout the ROM. Use it for a week and see if you like it
I liked MIUI in the froyo days. It was super stable and smooth. However ever since Gingerbread it's been much laggier across the board and far less stable than the froyo build. Swiping between homescreens is no longer smooth unless you use a hack that disables wallpaper scrolling (miuiandroid build) or keep your homescreens widget free with minimal icons. Of course if you use an alternate launcher then that isn't even a concern. But as mentioned earlier, the menus are also very laggy and annoying to use. I will admit the new dark theme makes it look a dream, but it has a bug that makes screen rotation take a relatively long time to flip and as such less usable.
CM7 may not have the aesthetic superiority that MIUI has but at least everything is smooth and gingerbread. I would love to see the MIUI lockscreen on CM7 but that will never happen.
Sent from my Droid Incredible using the XDA app.
To all that have a complaint about MIUI - the rotation lag is normally tied to a theme at the moment, I don't get lag anywhere else. Make sure you try your favorite launcher as well - I don't like the one that comes with it but if I swap over to Go launcher everything is nice and smooth again and I can find my stuff!
On the other hand, I have never found a rom other than CM7 with so much raw speed. CM7 will restore all my stuff insanely fast - all others are fairly slow in comparison. But how often do you go restoring everything unless you swap roms daily and are on fresh builds! I have really been enjoying MIUI lately, especially with the new themes and lock screens.
I'd say my favorite thing about MIUI is not having to install a decent camera app everytime. That was kind of annoying with CM7 which is otherwise wonderful as is.
Just a little poll to know what you guys think about skins/custom UIs that are supposed to simulate future/specific ROMs.
Doesnt matter if it's Launchers, Skins for launchers, skins for ...whatever really.
You will see them around in most developer forums. The more popular ones are Sense and nowadays there is loads of ICS Skins popping up aswell
I think they are skins to emulate future mobile operating systems and give you a taste of what to expect visually.
Took a while for the poll to appear VOTE! It's free and ... that's all.
It's good that they're there. That's what Android is about anyways. Fully customizable.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Had to choose the top one.
"Simulate ROMs" makes little sense to me, seeing as custom launchers are standalone apps often Packard with ROMs. Just because I use adw doesn't mean I'm 'simulating' cyanogenmod.
Having a custom launcher themed like stock is nothing odd, in fact this is what I've always done. Custom launchers are better than stock, most of the time, but stock (be it stock android or stock sense, ect) are aesthetically really nice. I want my phone to look nice and have superior functionality, so I use a home screen replacement.
My phone is currently running ICS-lookalike ADWex. Why? Cuz I think ICS looks great, adw is an incredibly functional and feature-filled launcher, and I can't get ICS for my phone anyways.
*silence of the lambs joke here* HAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUOvS7X9_2Q&feature=related
mmmm fava beans.
Not actually gonna vote on the poll as there is no answer that suits me. I don't use themes to emulate ROMs, but I don't think they're immature.
Sense 2.1? 3.0? 3.5? Or a 2.1/3.0 mix?

Sense is like a fat chick.... both lag IRL.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Both lag on an underpowered old phone like N1.
Try running it on a bit newer HW.
Functionality-wise, plain Android or CM is nowhere near touching it, no matter what you load it with. The best Sense alternative is MIUI.
To the OP: I believe you're asking the preference in specific ROMs, and not just in Sense style. Sense style - 3.0 and 3.5 are both fine and their differences are slim (I dislike what was done to calendar in Sense 3.5, like the changes in Quick Settings, don't care about dialer changes, and like the overall perceived speed-up). Specific ROMs - you'll need to try to decide. Having tried to load Sense 3.0 on HTC Desire, N1's closest sibling, I believe it's responsive enough to work with, but on a bit slow side, and depends on the "tuning" of the specific ROM.
Can you do it?
Folks over at sgs2 have been trying to port it over for quite sometime now. I doubt you will see it anytime soon. Besides do you really want sense?

Do i want sense? Yes, Its great! Touchwiz is not as refined.
Sense features i miss
The great Audio player, Better than power amp (In my opinion)
Fantastic lockscreen (customizable)
Great People, weather and calendar widgets
Perfect Dialpad
Well designed SMS and email client
And all the other sense themed widgets.
I know i lot of these features can be added with apps from the market, But none i have found so far have the Tidy uniform look of sense. Parts of touchwiz look like they have been made by a colour blind monkey! Also one of my biggest gripes with touchwiz is the lockscreen (poor animation, lack of customization and sometimes unresponsive) If i try to use a different lockscreen, NoLED stops working, which i like because the lack of a physical notification LED.
So far i have tried-
SPB shell 3D - expensive, and still needs some work for are device, but looks cool. More looks over substance
Launcher Pro - Its OK, just basic
Go laucher, Go Locker, Go Contacts - Good attempt, just not as refined and not optimized for the screen resolution of the note
The note, hardware wise, is the best Phone (yes it is a phone) I have owned. Personally i feel touchwiz needs some work.
Now others may love touhwiz, So i do not want this thread to turn into a fanboi thread of either way! This is just my opinion, its not intended to irritate anybody.
For one, i would love to see a sense rom for such great hardware!
Overall i like the note, and with any luck ICS will null my gripes.
Sorry to OP if i have hijacked this thread, Just sparked all my (common) sense thoughts off at once
Also best place for questions is the Q&A section.
Take it easy

no wont be done
For me TouchWiz and Sense is same ****. Go Launcher is normal. Holo is the best launcher I ever use. I hope samsung will not forget or ignore about this.
It was hard to get used to touchwiz after Htv Sense for first few days. I tried to find similar widgets to make it more look and function like htc sense. Then as more I get used to touchwiz the less I hated it. If I had a choice I would still prefer htc sense as already mentioned it is pretty well designed graphically and functionally out of the box. But I discover some touchwiz features missing in htc sense too. For instance uninstalling apps right from the app drawer is awesome just as practical as uninstalling on iphone. Samsung touchwiz seems to have it all as separate widgets and os wise but they are not as a whole package in terms of visual integrity and not as functional as sense considering each app separately. Some of features like remote tracking is not even in default rom unless you add them urself later which takes some research to even find out it's even possible. HTC sense serves it all as a whole package , even the navigating software you can purchase it right from the htc location widget and it is adapted to rest of widgets. Contact integration from different accounts like facebook, google, twitter etc is merged automatically on htc sense by choice which is missing on touchwiz. You have to add your htcsense user id and pass only once on Sense and it is recognized automatically on related apps like "htc likes" but on touchwiz you have to add your samsung account each time again and again for apps like "samsung apps" etc... Considering outstanding hardware features of Gnote I have no intension to go back to htc just for sense as none of their devices are even close to gnote recently but I would definitely like to see samsung engineers put more effort on improving touchwiz in terms of compatible graphic design, integrated all-in features , user friendly ui to make it more competitive against htc sense which seems to be only superiority of htc devices still left.

Im surprised it took 4 months for this kind of thread to pop up. I will never understand the ram hogging hype. It reminds me of iphone users bragging about a million apps so they can swipe the screen from left to right doing nothing.
But all in all we are using android which gives us plenty of options. If a clone of sense doesnt work. Theres always that option of making it yourself.
I swore launcher pro widgets were a exact replica of htc sense. Matched up with a theme and it was good to go. Plus that customizable widget app that did more things then htc lockscreen. But im guessing this isnt good enough.
Sense used to be great and now it's just too bloated
Thanks for the responses. I guess its each to here own. Now i have been assigned to this forum, i shall put this thread in its correct place.
Thread Moved To Q&A
sense just has the best dialer avaible. the touchwiz dialer just doesnt find if i search for "uiop" and there is clearly a "qwertz uiop" in the contacts. sense dialer finds that.
aldo the touchwiz keyboard is odd... long press makes caps lock chars... sense gives you signs like "+ -*& %". i solved that with swiftkey x... but for the dialer theres no replacement right now. ex dialer is the closest but it needs 10 seconds or more to load the call log. thats not acceptable.
i like that the phone features of a phone are excelent, not just satisfiyng.
Why are there two of the exact same thread..?
From the exact same person..
Sense is an abomination, why would you want to buy the fastest phone available just to bog it down with bloatware, reducing it to a level of performance of a 1GHz single-core? But, to each his own - sadly, no way to make a Sense rom for a non-HTC device, if only for legality reasons. Sense is, at least partly, proprietary code.
Sense is the best out of the box android UI. Period.
I've just recently got my Galaxy Note and I'll admit I do miss the sense from my HTC Desire HD. Personally, it seems more intuitive when it comes to shortcuts, integration and it is visually appealing. However, I know it slows down the phone as it did that to my HTC Desire HD, especially when I updated to the latest sense. It's very laggy and the amount of animations are completely unnecessary. I don't need an animation of the page swivelling onto the screen when unlocking the phone. I'll miss the ease of access to certain things, but I want to get use to touchwiz.
There is an option to get Sense 3.0 or 3.5

Sometimes HD2 with sense onboard acts smoother than Note with TW.
So if you want Sense, HD2 is your perfect choice.
Its hardly possible to port Sense to Note or other non-HTC devices.
