Is it possible to make the new miui lockscreen flashable just like the miui camera is?
Should be able to. Just try to push it to system/app before you do just to make sure its gonna to work first.
The lockscreen in miui isn't an apk so I don't think it is that easy. I doubt their lockscreens will work on other rom's either.
Oh ok. well I don't know much about miui. Im sure someone could figure it out though
Just use MIUI its better anyway.... Has Iphone, sense3.0, and gingerbread lockscreens without zips to install just go into themes...
I'm pretty sure it's tied into the framework... so, lots of work to do there if you're truly interested, haha. I'd use MIUI but CM7 is just faster and there's a million more, IMO, useful customization features compared to MIUI... pretty much the whole Cyanogenmod Settings tab. The one thing that really bugs me about MIUI is the menu system. It's beautiful, as it replicates that of the iPhone, but it's always been so laggy for me, I can't deal with it.

That's a shame. From the pictures, it looks like a combination between the honeycomb ring/ripple-lock and the sense 3.0 ring-lock. Both of which I like, so the newest miui lockscreen had me all excited. Lol

MIUI is built from open source but the rom itself isn't open source. It simply isn't possible.
MIUI > Vanilla Android
I was a loooooooooong time CM6 and CM7 user. But the latest MIUI is blazing. IMHO it's faster than CM7 in day to day use (I don't benchmark) and more stable.
MIUI has so many hidden subtleties throughout the ROM. Use it for a week and see if you like it
I liked MIUI in the froyo days. It was super stable and smooth. However ever since Gingerbread it's been much laggier across the board and far less stable than the froyo build. Swiping between homescreens is no longer smooth unless you use a hack that disables wallpaper scrolling (miuiandroid build) or keep your homescreens widget free with minimal icons. Of course if you use an alternate launcher then that isn't even a concern. But as mentioned earlier, the menus are also very laggy and annoying to use. I will admit the new dark theme makes it look a dream, but it has a bug that makes screen rotation take a relatively long time to flip and as such less usable.
CM7 may not have the aesthetic superiority that MIUI has but at least everything is smooth and gingerbread. I would love to see the MIUI lockscreen on CM7 but that will never happen.
Sent from my Droid Incredible using the XDA app.
To all that have a complaint about MIUI - the rotation lag is normally tied to a theme at the moment, I don't get lag anywhere else. Make sure you try your favorite launcher as well - I don't like the one that comes with it but if I swap over to Go launcher everything is nice and smooth again and I can find my stuff!
On the other hand, I have never found a rom other than CM7 with so much raw speed. CM7 will restore all my stuff insanely fast - all others are fairly slow in comparison. But how often do you go restoring everything unless you swap roms daily and are on fresh builds! I have really been enjoying MIUI lately, especially with the new themes and lock screens.
I'd say my favorite thing about MIUI is not having to install a decent camera app everytime. That was kind of annoying with CM7 which is otherwise wonderful as is.

Hello. I'm relatively new to flashing roms (I just recently rooted my phone) and I'm wondering what is the best rom for me. I like sense, but I want to play angry birds. What is a rom that is the least laggy for angry birds?
Also, I see a lot of people who say they use CM6. I assume that is cyanogenmod 6, but I'm unclear whether it is. The one under darchstar's thread? or another one, like aosp's 2.2 or jaybob413's? Which one of those is best (of their stablest release)?
Thank you so much for your time and patience with me
I like & I'm using cm6.1 stable. I've never tried AOSP but I've heard it's faster than & smoother than cyanogen. You don't have to get cm6.1 from a thread here though, you can just go to cyanogenmod.com & download it with the corresponding gapps if you want. I like cm better because it has a lot more customizable options. There are a lot of great themes for you to try out once you get flashing & roms down hope this helps

I tried angry birds on cm and aosp and a few others. I found aosp 2.2 runs angry birds the best by far. However, it is still going to be a little laggy.

Sorry to say but on AOSP you're out of luck because they don't have those options. You can change clock notification status bar & etc. colors on cyanogenmod though which is actually why I prefer it but to each is own Your best bet on AOSP is to find a theme you like & flash it but customizable wise I believe that's as far as you'll get
Which GUI do you like or use more?
No Sense here...
I can never make my mind up. i like the stock Gingerbread, its simple and quick, where as the Sense can sometimes cause a bit of lack with the clock changing or the widgets being so big. But at the same time i miss the sense and its integration with the whole system. The dialer, phonebook etc looks so much nicer.
atm im using the RCMix HD rom, which is pretty damn quick and has sense. so im happy for now. may change my mind in a month or two.
Gingerbread for me. Although I do like a bit of the original HTC flip clock from time to time, especially the one with the flip animation
I can't decide which look I like more. I like the functionality of Sense UI and how everything ties together, But I like the speed of Gingerbread.
I like the Gingerbread UI. It feels like to the point, without the frills and hassles.

I agree. I just flashed a Desire-HD rom , and tried it for a bit. But, I quickly became bored with it fast...
gingerbread all the way
I just go between RCSDSmix Sense/MIUI-Dev/CM Nightlies
Usually just flash whichever has latest update and move to new one when it updates
It's like which color of shirt do I wear today
The advantage of root
I'm a little of both.
I only really like the weather unlock animations, weather app and new 3.0 lockscreen from Sense. Besides that, I like the simplicity and look of stock gingerbread
you can find a replacement theme, alternate apps and widgets..
although you wont ever get that tight sense ui integration
but sense roms are very plain.. theres things i miss about it here and there but not as much as i enjoy playing around with cyanogenmod roms and customizing every little bit of it
I'm personally torn between the two, but that's the nice thing about the Nexus One (especially when the bootloader has been unlocked).
I'm a fan of Sense, and it's the only UI I like. There's just something about it, and I think a few of you touch upon some of the reasons why I like it. I don't know if it's because it makes the phone seem more user-friendly, but I know it's something. It just feels solid. As far as functionality goes, it makes the phone feel like it has a fully-functioning OS. There are just so many little unique customizations that make the phone more user-friendly.
On the other hand, I'm a big fan of CM7. Quite possibly the best iteration of Gingerbread on the streets. The speed of Gingerbread, especially in CM7, is mind-blowing (especially when you think how far things have come since the early days of Eclair in January 2010). I sometimes feel "homesick" when I'm using a Sense ROM.
I think it boils down to what you want out of your ROM. Sense is rigid. Vanilla Gingerbread allows you to make things how you want it. I will say this though: the stock camera app sucks. The Sense camera is tons better.
Just my 2 cents.
There is no properly functional Sense ROM for Nexus for at least a year.
UI- and usability-wise, since DesireHD's Froyo versions Sense beats both stock Gingerbread and CM7 by a large margin. But unfortunately it can only be seen on Desire, since Nexus doesn't have proper functionality in those ROMs.
I think SenseUI is the better one.
ROM flasher... i flash wherever i want RCADSmix SENSE > CM7 > MIUI .... which one suit the mood..
The gingerbread interface is better Pure android experience!
Do you guys prefer CM7 or Miui? I have been on CM7 for a few weeks and just flashed Miui. They are both 2.3.3 android although CM7 is closer to stock AOSP. I can see some benefits with both roms, and am wondering what others think.
I would go with cyanogen mod7.

This is all preference. I find both awesome, miui takes more user bug fixes and work arounds. Both are beta. Advanced users, or users who have a good working knowledge of their phone should only flash either.

I think I like CM7 more. Miui is too much like an iphone. I think thats what they are trying to copy. For example, rather than have an app drawer, you have to store your apps in folders on the homescreen, just like on the iphone.

Guys u can install any drawer like adw and use miui like any regular android
What i miss in CM 7 are some modifications like lockscreen Gestures, custom app starters , arabic language
But the MIUI still has some awesome features like low battery mode, pimped out notification pull down menu, etc...
so am pretty lost

If you know enough, I would just use both really, setup cm7 the way you like it then nandroid it. Set up miui the way you like it then nandroid it. Restore when you want one or the other. Works for me. Best of both worlds
Ps do not try to nandroid restore on other roms to roms. This works like that with miui and cm7 for they share same base.

Can I flash MIUI over CM7?
didn't see a reply on this so i decided to jump in and answer this. From what I know, both are 2nd-init roms and you can flash miui over cm7. and just to note, you should NOT use bootstrapper in both roms whatsoever.
hope this helps.
And as far as the two comparisons/choice, I go with CM7. I am currently running nightly 38 without a single problem. From what I have been reading, there are too many bugs running around miui. However, I really like the way customizing is set up for miui. you can overlap themes and lockscreens. I think i might give miui a try when it becomes a bit more stable. Maybe flash miui and then flash nightly 50's CM7. haha.
MIUI <3 Way better customizations and i believe android is all about customizations
Aside from being gorgeous and buttery smooth on my Nexus S 4G... and aside from being ridiculously customizable as it always has been... I just did a full wipe and installed it after not using it for a while.
Running a completely stock 2.3.7 rooted ROM because I'm just sick of stability issues with ICS ROMS (big loves to the brilliant devs that are working on them, btw... I know the stability problems aren't their fault... Google needs to hurry the f**k up!).
Back to my point... they've built in some of features that the ICS launcher has. Like:
dropping icons from your homescreens on top of each other to automatically bundle them into an auto-sized folder.
automatically adjusting the scale and position of the icons on the dock (which you can just drag and drop stuff off of)
Give it a whirl! This is Android perfection right here! I was thinking about getting a Galaxy S2 just for giggles but I've fallen in love with my phone again and saved myself $500
While I love ADW EX. Using ICS is just too good to go back. I don't know what stability issues you experienced, ICS has been wonderful for myself. Loving the browser and battery life. The overall feel of ICS is more fluid and just makes sense. Cut and paste is a great example.

Terrible battery life on every ROM I've tried (oICS, CM9 Alphas, CM9 Kang, etc). And if it's not battery life, it's random reboots, launcher force-closes, screen flickering, slow or laggy homescreen or app drawer transitions, etc.
Yes, I've done full wipes. I even use that wipe script linked in the NS4G Dev section.
This is the smoothest, most stable Android experience I've ever had, right now... and I've had a Nexus One, EVO 4G, Epic 4G, and a couple other ghetto phones.
Well, I am running pete's "almost stock" rom and it is perfect, not a single issue.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm debating whether I should try it. I'm seriously considering just waiting until the official OTA comes out and something more stable and faster is cooked up by the CM team or someone else. I'm so tired of all the messing with backups, wiping, flashing, etc...

My favorite combo is ADW Ex with sph33r's ICS v2. ADW makes ics that much better - I'm loving it. Everything is smooth as silk and configured exactly how I like it.

am using BM's stock ICS + eugene's stock 3.0.13 kernel. battery and speed are great! no reboots, no FC's.
Used Adw a long time back. The thing I was most uncomfortable with was the single dock. Would have loved it had it included configurable no. of docks as with launcher pro or nova.
The problem I have with ICS & nova launcher is that some widgets (Scrollable News Widget to be precise) says that it's incompatible with launchers that do not support scrollable widgets ... although I know that many other widgets work well.

3.x and up has support for scrollable widgets, so dev's of those widgets you're talking about need to re-code them.
I used ADW ex prior to upgrading to a custom ICS ROM.
Few things; ADW in no way compares to the premium and smooth feel of legit ICS. ICS has so much more and is vastly improved. An earlier poster mentioned the new copy/paste. Aside from that we have the new tabs in the browser, better auto-correction, the kick ass multitasking/recent tab, the overall UI and so much more.
If you like the ability to change icons and notice there isn't much support for that in ICS try out Nova Launcher. It's beta 5 right now but it's awesome. You can change icons easily, and more. Not to mention the app drawer very closely resembles ICS which I love.
The only thing I feel ADW EX has that ICS (coupled with Nova Launcher on a Custom ROM) doesn't have is capacity of folders. The ICS folders can't fit all of my games so I have to use "alternative" folder apps which blows. Once they fix that ICS will win at life, 3 times over. Then CM9 will come out and make us **** ourselves in excitement XD!

Have you tried ADW with ICS? I was not at all impressed with the stock ics launcher, although it is quite a bit better than the gb launcher.
ADW mostly just adds to what ics provides and as far as I can tell, only the app drawer widget picker/market link are missing (I did not use those anyway).
I run vhgomez's ICS v1.2 with the latest ADW Ex and the App Widget Picker replacement apk. Friggin sweetness.

I just don't like it.... I prefer Nova Launcher with ICS. So much better IMO
Ya, I've been using the new adw for most of my ICS time, and it's been pretty smooth. There are 2 things tho that I like much better in the Stock ICS launcher (Trebuchet).
Most of my scrollable Widgets in ADW are messed up.. especially the native calendar and browser bookmark Widgets. It seems like ADW registers the downward motion as a gesture attempt.. even though none defined.
Second is folders in the bottom bar.. which I really like in ics launcher. Definitely gonna try Nova tonight tho.

Ok, this is a serious question guys.
I am coming from a HTC Inspire 4G, where a full ROM was under a hundred meg, why is it even with almost everything removed, ROMs for my beloved Note are over 300meg..?
Look forward to everyones answers!!
Cheers
FYI your Inspire's stock Sense ROM is over 350MB. Sense and TouchWiz are big ROMs with added features and so on. The ROMs under 100MB is CM7 and MIUI. Since we don't have these for the Note yet, we'll have to settle with TouchWiz ROMs for the time being.

They're not just the UI, it's also the apps.
Android itself doesn't support S-Pen in 2.3, so that's Samsung.
The calendar app - samsung
widgets - samsung
custom apps and UI (like rubberbanding effects, custom font setting, etc)
There are a lot of under the hood things that has been changed. Touchwiz is something essential for ANY ROM and it takes A LOT of work to remove it. I mean A LOT. Samsung designed it to be run with Touchwiz, so any dev. has to work a lot to get everything working fine without any touchwiz and that's a lot of work.
And the numbers of pixels of Note is 2.6 times of WVGA. So, all the graphic files for the UI will be larger too.
