It is easy to go back to unrooted 2.0.1 and then update to 2.1. Check out this link. Of course you only need to install Drivers, Motorola Software and download original .sbf files.
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/05/06/guide-to-rooting-android-2-1-on-a-motorola-droid/
Look for rom manager in the market. Free version offers stock roms.

its a fairly easy process. you need rsd lite, the stock 2.0.1sbf and about 5 minutes of free time. just flash the stock sbf, activate, and do the 2.1 ota once you are up and running.

Like many people it seems, I've been having an issue with the 2.1 update in which the phone powers back on by itself after being shut down.
I want to flash the shipped 2.0.1 ROM which should eliminate the problem, but I can't find it anywhere. I've been looking here:
http://and-developers.com/motorola_milestone:sbf
But it's not listed. Can anyone tell me where to find it?
Hi actually it has never been released ,you have 2 options you can restore a nandroid back up of it or you can simply flash any other 2.1 ( I suggest 2.36) sbf file and then do the 3G hack to regain your frequencies ...
The bug is fixed in the GOT leaked Thai firmware, which has the same 3G frequencies.
Newest Telus centric GOT mod has all these bus ironed out. I am using it for few days and I am loving it!

Good to know. I'm away from home for several more days and I'd love to apply this update but I'm going to wait until I'm at the computer I usually use ADB & RSDLite on (and which also happens to have all my spare nandroid backups on it).
So today i rooted my phone and and after i downloaded a rom it froze while booting, i lost everything didnt have a back up( i know, stupid stupid decision). rom manager is not showing up in the market place, can some please give me a link to the stock rom for the moto droid 2.2. pleaseeee. Thanks, Gavin.
if you have rom manager you will find it there under "dowload rom" > stock images.

im looking for frg22 unrooted at the moment so i can see about returning my Droid since the charger barely stays in the port these days. but if you are looking for stock unrooted frg22 then i will post a link if you havent found it yet
Go to droidmod.org and download DMupdater 12. Its like the 3rd post down on the main page. Once you have it installed go to the rom menu and they give you a couple of options for 2.2

is there a version of this that we can apply without loosing root?
just want a stock version w/ root
I am at android version 2.2 build FRG22D rooted
and just want to get the FRG83D update
similar to what Pete does
http://www.peteralfonso.com/p/downloads.html
after looking at the update list I would only be interested in the new twitter app, new gmail app, and news/weather widget. It seems it might just be easier to find these apk's individually and install on FRG22D rather than deal with the upgrade.
Unless there's something else worthwhile in the upgrade that I'm missing...
I didn't notice anything different after upgrading.

Good old RSD Lite lol.
RSDLite still works.
I know that for the X, z4 still works too. I'd imagine it does the D1 too.
Nope, z4root doesn't work anymore on D1

Did you use the small FRG83D-from-FRG22D file (under the OTA section) or the full FRG83 DeOdexed?
Or is that smaller file just what Verizon sent out?
I successfully rooted my Droid1 using SuperOneClick tonight.Downloaded it from XDA tonight. It reverts back to frg83.I am a complete dummy but the instructions were simple.

ok, not knowing what was added in Peter's build, I used a rooted stock build posted by metiCkOne (link below) that included busybox and superuser.
I didn't even wipe data, updated on my rooted FRG22D with SPRecovery.
After that I just re-installed my preferred kernel update to get a higher overclock setting.

hi,i used the latest download from peteralfonso.com website -its for stock roms -a star is beside it to let you know its the latest version....just click on deodexed(i used this version*)-it will download to rom manager-flash using clockwork mod recovery-this worked for me -i was rooted on 2.2 before i flashed this and didn't lose root afterwards....hope i answered your question,i'm still new at using android os(coming from apple os)
ps:use your xda app on your android phone-much easier to apply downloads
To everybody trying to root just factory reset and then use a one click rooting method
No ever since i got froyo second update FRF22 i never being able to get 1 click root solution.

[ROM] [STOCK] CUBE / CUBE_lean_v2 (root) | v20g-2.3.3
DISCLAIMER: I'm not responsible if anything happens to your phone. Use this at your own risk.
Based on stock v20g, but recovery flashable. Will not update your baseband. Works only on the new baseband.
There are two versions
CUBE - 100% equal to stock.
CUBE_lean - stripped down and rooted.
Important:
Do not upgrade from Froyo to any of these ROM, you won't have GSM/UMTS then.
If you already have the new baseband you can use this.
If you do not have the new baseband you can not use this.
Do not use LGMDP to flash this ROM.
FAQ:
Q: Oh no! Yet another gingerbread ROM?
A: This is not yet another, it is the stock one, just in different packaging.
Q: And why do i need that again if there is a stock ROM already?
A: If you do not want to flash via lgmdp but rather use your already existing clockwork mod recovery.
Q: What's the problem with using lgmdp?
A: It flashes more than you need if you just wanted to downgrade. And it flashes "dangerous" areas of the phone making it more prone to create a brick.
Q: Mobile data is not working after flashing this rom. What now?
A: Go to settings and set the APN manually. Consult google for your operator settings.

So i stil need to pre install original GB over froyo to test this? Or this is it?
Why this ROM??
Adds no value at all. You have to flash original ROM to get use this ROM. And this is original ROM

Yes. If you already have the original GB, then you have no use for this. If you've gone further and flashed a custom GB rom and now want back again without flashing anything vie lgmdp: this is for you.
Just flashing this zip "ALONE" via recover will get me lg based gingerbread? :O
If so its cute... Dnt temme I need to flash the baseband before flashing this thing

No it won't. This won't upgrade your baseband. You need a new baseband already. This ROM is when you don't want to flash the baseband again to get back to stock.
It's confusing ... I m on Mick's CM7- 6.5.5. Can I just flash the zip file as normal to upgrade to this ROM?

Mik's CM7-6.5.5 is using the old baseband. So you can't.
I think i'm gonna clarify this a bit better in the first post.

this kind of posts should not be here, this is ROM doesn't give anything to the comunity, this should to be moved to general o another section.
This is actually pretty useful. I was wanting to go back to the stock GB kernel/ROM (having too many issues with the custom ones), but I didn't want to go through the whole ordeal of using LGMDP again. Thanks for this.
You also need lgmdp to change the baseband, so its ridiculous

I'm curious. Has somebody already used the provided ROM and had success flashing and running it?
I wasn't able to flash via LGMDP, for some reason it kept going into fastboot.
I flashed this and everything is perfect.
All you hating should just shut up. This helped me a lot.
Thank you.
BTW - rooting doesn't work and the APN's and settings and bookmarks and everything are from a different carrier, not mine.
Weird but... whatever.
I just want it rooted. Anyone that can help?
Why would you want to use this?
Install gingerLOL which is rooted and cleaned. Its still slow because its still based on official crap but certainly faster than this.
I think is useful enough...
You have to use lgmdp tool just once ,not again and again to change from v20g to v20c or other downgrades, just flash this rom and then flash any official gb rom you want instead of using lg tool again...
But if you want to flash a froyo rom then you have to use lg tool again....
All these if i understand good,
Or not????

I'm in the same boat. Can somebody brilliant help us out?
Have you guys tried superoneclick? It worked on the last update and I'm pretty sure motorola only added 2 minor changes to this update
I've tried it many times with no success but I got it to work with an older version. Now I need to find a good rom lol.

Since 2.2.3 is an antiquated version of Android, there are no ROMs based on it. All Droid developers have put their efforts into maintaining Gingerbread (2.3.x) on the phone.
Ok but does anyone why my phone is showing the triangle and exclamation point tin g when I try to reboot into cwmz?

I just sucessfully rooted my wife's original Verizon Moto Droid using superoneclick. It came from the one click thread found here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
The key was to go go the bottom of the page and download the 2.2 version and not the 2.3
Hope this helps
I just got a droid a couple days ago and had this problem. What i did to fix it was used rsdlite to downgrade using the .sbf file for android version 2.2.2. Once at stock android 2.2.2 i rooted(search for tutorials its pretty easy). Once your rooted download rom manager. If you go into rom manager, flask clockworkmod recovery, then browse the downloable roms on rom manager you can find Peter Alfonso's roms. He has a rooted stock 2.2.3 rom. It is a long process but it works for me after not being able to find a way to root 2.2.3. Hope this long explanation helps.

You need to rename a file on your /system partition that overwrites clockwork.
http://androidforums.com/droid-all-...k-custom-recovery-wont-stick.html#post1448841
You will need to remount /system as read-write to do this.
Can you provide more detail? Where did you find the 2.2.2 .sbf file?
