Not really on topic, but..... - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the opportunity to upgrade my account and I'm not sure what to get.
I already own a Nexus and my wife has just got her Galaxy S.
However what should I get?
To be honest I'm probably going to sell the upgrade anyway, but I'm not sure what has a better price at the moment.
Any ideas?

Buying a spare nexus

hey guys!
I'm a looong time lurker here, but now I thought I'll ask for advice
Now that google is phasing out the nexus, is it a good idea to buy a spare? I totally love mine, and am not a big gamer.I just love to tinker
Thanks!
The person who can answer that the best is you really. Unless you planned on using the nexus one for the next 2 yrs or so, I don't think it's a good idea. There'd be so much better phone by year's end or next year.
Hi!
I was a bit vague on my reasons The Nexus is my first Android phone (didn't want an iphone for obvious reasons - closed...), but used numerous winmo smartphones before. I decided on the N1 due to its "openness" (easyly unlockable bootloader, plethora of CMs...)
As I said, gaming is not high on mylist, so 3d performance and the touchscreen issues are not a bother for me. However, in terms of raw power the N1 one is still a lively beast with a dedicated dev scene.
So, to sum up: the N1 does everything for me. What worries me is that today's phones are not built for longevity, and now that the N1's availability is in question (I'm in CEE), I'm thinking of buying another one just to be safe. Or am I just paranoid to think my Nexus won't last 1.5 years??
Phasing out the Nexus? Just because they are no longer selling them on their store does not mean, to me, that they are phasing it out. They are planning to sell them directly through retail outlets.
Anyway, I don't see a value in having a spare. They are easy enough to get.
I will sell u mine

Won't it be harder to get later? I saw a price hike after the announcement was made - by the retail shops here in Hungary that is...
I wouldn't bother. Within the next 6-12 months there will be a better phone around. Instead of sitting on a phone, get some hookers and coke.
@JCopernicus, been there, done that I think it all boils down to when a new dev phone will arrive ( if ever) from google
wil there be any nexus or something new from google?

Are you NUTS?!
Even after Google "discontinues" selling the N1 you will still be able to purchase the N1 for an extra $25 by just creating a developer account...
If you really want to throw away $529 I'll be happy to give you my paypal donation account info

as I said unfortunately I live in Hungary, so I cannot buy it from google as my country is not deemed a market large enough to sell it online

[Q] Best possible upgrade?

I was thinking of buying a new phone this week, I mean i love my x8, but you gotta move on
so which is the best phone to buy amongst Dual Core Phones?
I'm very satisfied with my Samsung Galaxy S II (link goes to the phone tech specs)
If you can get it at a discounted upgrade price it may be a bargain, buying the phone at its full price could turn out to be costly.

i know very well about the gs2,, have been researching quite a lot about it,, any other alternatives?
Look into wilbso's [POLL] for people who are looking for a good phone to buy thread? It's about the same topic as your question, and there have been some other recommendations.

[Q] Should I sell my Pre-order on eBay? ...... J/K

Just for the fun of it I checked out eBay to see what people are asking for the Nexus 6. And I must say I am honestly shocked. The phone is selling for higher overhead than the iPhone 6 Plus was.
Most auctions on eBay are already eclipsing $800 with some as high as $1000 for the 32 GB mode, and these are the ones with the active bidding. I have to admit, for a brief moment, I thought to myself "Hey I could make a quick $300 and then just wait until they are in stock again. Than I realized that even though it would be fiscally advantageous, I just cannot bring myself to give up on the opportunity of owning a brand new Nexus device. I would miss out on playing with the new features and finally having front facing speakers, something I have wanted for what seems like ages now. Not only that but I feel that in doing so I would be taking advantage of all those that were not as lucky as me.
I am just surprised at how much this phone is going for. If you got a pre-order, would you give up the opportunity to use the device for $300+?

No. I need a phone
Well to be honest, if I find out before I receive my pre-order that it doesn't work on Verizon for some reason, I'll probably sell it on Ebay.

I saw one listing go up to $2000. It's crazy.

I'm pretty sure that was shill bidding. Others had a buy it now price at $800 for the same thing and that listing was still being bid up with 2 days to go.

[Q] Note 4 Now, or Wait?

I know there's a current limited time offer with a $200 rebate, but does anyone know or think the price will drop further next month when the Note 5 launches? How much and how soon did the Note 3 drop after the N4 came out? Should I wait a little longer, or dive in now and go through the rebate hassle?
(for the record, I'm much more interested in the N4 than the N5)
Here are some thoughts about when the n5 will come out.

---------- Post added at 08:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:03 AM ----------
I've had the n4 since release. It's the best phone I ever had.
But, if the n5 isn't crippled, I'll get it on release. Give my n4 to my sweetie and her s4 to one of my parents and sell that parents s3.
You already know the n4 is the phone you want. How much more do you think it will go down and how long will that take? $200 is a pretty good discount. If lets say it went down another $50 (total of $250), I doubt that would happen right away and I doubt it will even go down lower than that. But how long do you want to wait? Is an additional $50 worth the wait? If that will even happen.
also if I recall correctly, no other phones by samsung ever went down that much $200) when the new version was released.

Really good point! Now my wife is considering doing Jump on Demand, which was making me consider that too. But I usually like sticking with a single phone, rooting, customizing, installing ROMs, etc. She doesn't. Okay, I think I'll be joining the N4 club this weekend. Thanks for helping me decide.

I joined jump on demand about two weeks ago. Love it so far. Went from my G3 and started the program with an S6E. That was a mistake. Took it back after about 4 days and jumped to the Note 4. No hassles no issues. They don't check the phone for root either, like some people were suggesting since technically it's a lease.
If you're someone who likes to keep up on the new phones, and don't want to go through the hassle of selling your old phone to pay for the new, its a great program. Hopefully they will keep up on the phones to choose from with each big release, that's the real question.
Actually Samsung had a $200 promotion when they released the Note 4 if you preordered, which i did. The promotion was run by a real sleazy company and you had to scream and complain to get them to honor it, but they eventually did.

Well, I ended up getting the Note 4 this weekend and submitted my info for the rebate. I still have a few more customizations to do, but so far, I'm loving it. And for the most part, I think I kinda like the touchwiz implementation of Lollipop over Google's. This phone has exceeded my expectations!

tab s2 vs tab s3

Bought the S2 earlier this year and subsequently lost it an an airport so need a new one. Was going to replace it with the same after getting the insurance money but I have now discovered that the seller I got the S2 from is selling the S3 for about 50 quid more. Is it worth the upgrade? Don't think I will have a use of the pen.
Did you see this thread?

Even though the S3 has many teething troubles, for only £50 more, I'd take the punt. When Samsung sort the problems out, you will be paying a lot more than £50 a few years down the line if you want to upgrade.
Maybe find out what the issues are and ask yourself if any are deal breakers?

Time to get yourself to the S3 thread then Eggstones. :highfive:
If you do take the plunge, why not come back here and let us know how you are getting on
Will do. There seems to be a weird magnet issue going on that I don't fully understand.
Go for the S3 as you still have a future software upgrade path. The S2 will likely have come to its final upgrade

One slight chink of light is the fact that the 2016 S2 8" version is still the most recent 8" flagship Samsung device. Maybe it will get its third OS update?
Don't you think 50 quid more is too good to be true?
S3 is a whopping 599.00 and if you shop around maybe you can get it for 540.00 at a pinch. S2 easily get it for 300.00 so if I was offered the S3 for 350.00 I'd be asking some questions .... u less of course you are talking second hand ... but even then.
For me, the S3 is overpriced for what it is. I someone like Huawei got hold of a Samsung OLED panel, it could really upset the market and drive down the price of the S3.

Samsung are really taking the 'p' these days, there is no limit to what they think they can charge. The Note 8 had me absolutely gobsmacked at nearly £900. What's next a £1500 phone?
Yeah £600 for a tablet is pretty high and given the features I think it's OTT frankly but if people pay Samsung will continue to dip into your wallet. Embedded batteries makes the £600 or £860 Note 8 still a 2 year deal as batteries don't last and I hate the fact that they did that for the phones in particular - I value my note 4 with spare batteries which I can swap in when needed and there are so many times when not having one would have been a major inconvenience.
I'll look for other brands - it's always best to go with the guys who have to try harder to get your business. When they get to Samsung status it's "take it or leave it" attitude but thats' to be seen everywhere sadly.

Agree with everything you say Louis. :highfive:
I bought the Mrs a Huawei mediapad M3 open box for only £142 in the USA a few weeks ago so I will get to see it in person in a few weeks time. With a high end Kirin SoC, 4GB ram things like a brilliant FP scanner and even a notification LED, it could give my S2 a run for its money. The icing on the cake would be an OLED screen but it seems Samsung are not selling these to others at tablet size.
Let's hope it turns out to be good. I think I need to go look at these offerings and see if the screens are a deal breaker or not. I got my tab second hand and because the screen was a good contender for the ipad retina. And I do appreciate it since the tab is my bedtime movie theatre
I'm sure the other guys will catch up .. Hopefully sooner or later, but if I have to stick with Kim Sami I guess I will go the ebay route and hope to find batteries as I did with the tab s.
