After the putchase, it was installed, and when I go to select widgets, not all of the widgets are there. No clock, no weather, not sure how many I am supposed to have.
I decided maybe I need to uninstall/reinstall. Went to market, there was no 'reinstall' option. So I went into Settings/Applications/Manage Apps. and uninstalled. Got message I had a refund.
I presume I got the correct app, as it showed the right company in the Google Checkout.
What should be the right process to get this installed, especially if something is wrong.
One thing I find quite interesting with apps for Android: looks like no way to contact many of the sellers. For this for example I went to their web site, didn't see any support or method to contact them.
This app had downloadble widgets which means not all of them come installed with it.
Further research shows that many users have trouble with this app ranging from issues like yours to battery problems.
The website for the app says that you can contact them through email from the android market. if this is not the case, I would abandon this app on that basis alone lol.
poppycock app works fine on my n1 and my galaxy s.. once installed all widgets are there you only have to download skins for weather and clock.
try downloading with wifi on.. it is much faster.

if it works on his galaxy s, it should work on your captivate.

Thanks for the input, but they are not there 'once installed', if then you have to 'download skins for weather and clock'. Seems to me a clock should be a widget, not a skin. On the site, which has all of 1 page talking of features, they mention things about skins, and downloading skin kits. That implies development to me.
I went to the Market online, but that, interestingly enough, you can't even search on. On thes web site, interestingly enough, NO method to contact them there. But thanks to your tip, I do see an email address on the Market from the phone.
This is quite an interesting learning experience.
The web site that is on the Market is not reachable. Maybe trouble tonight.
I'll try the email route and see if I can learn a bit more about what I need to get this stuff working.
there are 100s of custom clock skins they cannot possibly put them all with the app it would be huge.. you add the beautifull home widget under under skins download and select the clock you want..
The widget name you want is called Beautiful Home, and when you pick that one it opens up a settings box. Down at the bottom it "save and apply." You gotta hit that button to actually put the widget on the screen. If you hit skins instead you can choose what you want, but you have to apply each time as you back out of the settings interface to make the widget "stick". Small learning curve. Once the widget is up, you can hit the weather to see the big weather popup, and hitting the menu button there brings up settings and skin buttons.
This is my favorite widget, the most reliable. I have submitted skins that were accepted, so I know they are responsive. If you still need help let me know.
Thank you so much for the details. You'd think an app that is at a cost, however small, would have at least a base level of documentation on their web page.
Question: Is Beautiful Home a different set than Beautiful Widgets, or is it just required in order to use Beautiful Widgets?

Beautiful Home is the name of the clock/weather widget that comes with Beautiful Widgets.
Thanks. I got it going.
I was thinking that a 'Home' Widget was a replacement for the home screen or something like that. Its beginning to look like a home widget must be a widget that can be placed on any screen, and is 'home' to other things you will be adding, as opposed to replacing some other home widget. Is that the case in general?
How's that for a tongue twister?
I would like to know if you all recommend this app for the Captivate?
Beautiful Widgets + Launcher Pro = Fantastic UI experience
I've been using weather and toggle widget and like it more than beautiful widget but both are nice.

Depends on your opinion I guess .. I use retro date (part of retro clock widget) which to me is better, says the date and uses two spots. When I click on it it goes to calendar. Some may not like it because it doesnt display the days events or to-dos, or w/e is on the calendar but to me its short and simple..

You have a couple of choices with hero.
If you have not tried the calender widget that is included in the free app "Quick Calendar" you might take a look. I preferred it to the stock one.
I'll go for quick calendar. it displays two upcoming events.
Has Quick Calendar's widget UI improved? Last time I used it, it was just a brick, not much better looking than the default widget.
I'm surprised it's taken this long to create a calendar widget that displays agenda in a non ****ty way.

That solves nothing for those of us that would rather not run Hero.
However you may have a better time getting a dev to port the hero widget to cupcake then getting one to write one from scratch. The Hero widgets are very nice IMO.
I would love to see the Hero widget ported over. I cant believe no one has made a better calendar widget. I need something that will show three or more events at a time. Quick Calendar looks better then it used to but I always get force closes from it. I also hate how the widget's size depends on how long the event name is.
The anitime widget it nice just doesnt show events but it shows the entire month, and the clock is nice to and comes with it

Full calendar doesn't do much for me, especially a clock when you already have a clock in the top bar. More events is what I am looking for. The default widget only shows 1 event.
I use Agenda View in the Calendar. Can anyone tell me how to swiftly jump to the next month's Agenda. Now I have to switch to the month view mode, then click a day on the month, and then come back to the Agenda View. It is very inconvenient.
I use the tCalendar Widget.
Puts the date and day of the week as the Calendar icon. Perfect for what I need.
Have to agree with those that say the stock widget stinks - I'm also in need of one that would show a few more events.
What bugs me is there was a widget like that when Cupcake was first released, and I can't find it anywhere now.

Again, not a good solution for those of us who would rather not use home replacements. All the people are looking for in here is a widget. I've used sweeter home and its very amazing, but the lag that comes with home replacements I'd just rather not have.

agreed. lag = bad
AniWidget has both a plain "Calendar" and a "Google Agenda" components, but the latter one is just a clone of the stock widget, with fancier transparency. Hardly worth the $3.
So, with widgets now in full swing, I thought I would find out from you folks, which widgets could you not live without????
Personally, I love the FML widget. I look at it several times a day. I love how its customizable to fit any theme! Im sure I would be VERY UPSET to lose this one!
I also love the Android and Me widget and the 10,000 things to know widget.
So what about you guys?
def the bbc news widget for me. (being british)
really hope to see a decent sms widget, facebook widget, and contacts widget - bit like the ones on the hero.
from hero i cant live without the messaging preview widget
that thing is the best
dont have to keep going into the app now to preview a message to know if i feel like responding or not...
it lags the phone a little but oh well...
Flipclock with weather from hero
I've never got the hype with widgets - they seem to kill my battery and tbh I can just click one icon on my homescreen for whichever app I like.
Really the only widgets I use are the retro clock/date, wifi on/off and brightness. That is in addition to the music and google in another window.

I'm with you on this one. Though it is good to see next appointment in your calendar on the home screen. So calendar is the only widget that I use.
Didn't see anything about this on here, so I thought I would let everyone know that flyscreen hit the market today. If you don't know what it is, the app is a locksreen replacement which boasts a number of useful widgets. It's free, so check it out.
well done app!
tweaks i'd personally like to see
1. accuweather edit to enable "current location" along with search city or zip
2. changeable wallpaper?
3. custom color for the bottom status bar.
4. it seems pressing menu OR home unlocks the app. maybe just keep it as only MENU unlocks?
5. would LOVE a fully-functional local music widget. even a streaming one. preferably last.fm
6. it's hard to double-tap to unlock the screen when on the calendar widget.
that's all for now. again great job!
Can't find it on the market. Can anyone upload a .apk for me please?
just downloaded and installed.....love it!

are you serious? just search the market for flyscreen
Anyone have any luck getting the Facebook widget? It says to go to www.myflyscreen.com when I try to add it, but there's not really any mention of it on the website.
EDIT: Nevermind, it turns out you have to login.
this seems legit!
I've tried it but I'm not a fan of flyscreen,
the feed summary stories are so short its not worth reading them and
it is hard to unlock.
I much prefer "buzz deck", kind of similar concept with the flicking between cards but it
works much better for the feeds.
but I guess if you use just the weather and messages widget then this is pretty good
i think it would be a lot better if the added a lock, something other then just pushing the menu button
I love it, but the stericson lock screen is still popping up occasionally... How do I completely remove stericson?
(Using CM 4.0.4)
its not on the market!!! I searched like 4 times and it cant find it.... wtf?
http://www.myflyscreen.com/
You can dl it from here
I like it ok...
But, I was under the impression I would be able to use widgets installed on my phone.
I can't - I have to use widgets that flyscreen has... And, their calendar widget is not interactive (can't open my calendar with it or see my appt's), there is no Gmail/Email widget, and I can't use my own weather widget instead of theirs.
Since I don't really want to use any widgets they have... It sorta makes the app pointless. If I wanted to use a widget they have I would have downloaded/installed it already!
I had this during the beta invite and liked it a lot then and the final revision is not dissapointing. I agree, custom backgrounds and missed call, sms etc. notifications are needed though.
bump
any ideas on removing stericson lock?
Installed it. One of the best app on the market easily. Running weather, facebook and 2 custom RSS feeds. Its kinda laggy and slow. And it also it takes sometime to kick in when you wake the phone up. It shows the home screen for a sec before flyscreen lockscreen appears. This is the major issue. Can be fixed with further optisations. Minor annoyances are the wallpaper. Missed call register and music widget wont hurt either. But still, great app!
This app makes any rom awesomeness. If they can get all the social networks on this app, who needs blur? Has a lot of potential.
Been using the beta for quite some time, uninstalled because of slow performance...
the release version is much more stable, really happy with it all I want is to be able to install and create skins and wallpapers
Really nice concept. Good first release. However, like others have said:
1. Needs configurable wallpaper (my gf called me gay...she would know)
2. Causes great lag returning to homescreen, whereas before flyscreen, return was instant.
I'm a little thrown off by having to give my phone# on registration but I guess that just creates a unique username. Very cool idea, I wish I could customize the background and the alignment looks a little off on the bottom (not quite centered)
Very cool. I'm looking forward to more updates from this app!
Hey, I am on a stock N1, I am looking for a pretty identical widget for weather/clock, you know what you see on say, the Desire. What app and what skin can you recommend? I do not mind paying.

I've tried:
Beautiful Widgets
Weather Widget & Toggle
Fancy Widget
Top => Bottom = least realistic to most realistic.
However, top=>bottom = most features to least features.
Fancy Widget comes the closest. I somehow feel it's slightly slower than the other two though. Not sure.
using fancy widgets for a while now and i have 0 problems.
I like it the most cause i want just a clock + weather that looks exactly like the HTC one, and i do not want xxxx features that i don't use anyway.
just a clock + weather + you can choose what happens when you hit the clock. thats it.
Fancy Widget for the win!

Beautiful Widgets does that, along with opening the calendar when tapping the date and your weather app of choice when tapping the forecast. Also has an HTC skin thats pretty much spot-on, with dozens more to choose from. Same with Weather & Flip clock. I don't see fancy widget being available for long, HTC will shut them down for copying their look.
Is it just me or has fancy widgets disappeared from the market?

That's the result of a Cease & Desist request from good ole HTC. You won't see it in the Market anymore. They will continue on under a different name and style. Paul has the latest in his r20 build.

I have the final version of Fancy Widget, but not sure if it's okay to post. PM me if anyone wants it.
It looks like the weather part of the old GenieWidget (News and Weather) gave up the ghost this past week
I guess the API finally changed for weather.com or the Weather Channel or where ever it came from. Anyway....I was using the weather widget for my homescreen. As clunky as it was, it also seemed sort of "right" for the NST. It didn't have a lot of microscopic information that you could not read and was just about the right size.
I'm currently trying out the unofficial NOAA app from the PlayStore but I'm not liking the widget too much. I've seen WeatherBug mentioned in the forum but the current version does not allow for manual location entry and the search function, like that of the old Market app, does not work (in fact the interface looks exactly like that for Market...).
So....does anyone have a weather widget they like?

Try Gismeteo Lite!
I haven't tried its widget on my Nook since I removed desktop-like launcher. However it states Android 2.0+, so it should work.
If you don't like it, there is a handful of weather widget apps sorted on 4pda forum.

Thanks for the tip! I've been trying out Aix but the little hourly graph is pretty silly as a weather widget. I like the looks of the Gismeteo widget except for the "+" sign in front of the temperature. I'm sure that's meaningful somewhere but it's not here and looks a little silly. Still, I'll see if I get used to it. Meanwhile I'll have a look at the list.
And the winner is.......
Weather Ace!!!! Amazingly complete little app, lots of customization options (fonts, "colors", backgrounds, transparency, etc.), a variety of different size/complexity widgets, different icon sets, different weather data providers (even a place to enter a WUnderground API key!). Very nice
The current market version is for Android 2.3 and up. I found the attached older version quite by accident while searching for weather widgets for Android 2.1.
Enjoy!

100% agree. I have a Nook setup solely as a weather station, using Weather Ace widgets to give me a handful of different temperatures and forecasts. It's pretty accurate, and with the right set of icons looks really nice on the Nook greyscale screen.
