kernel help please - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running on the stock 2.2 build frf91 and I want to change the kernel to improve battery life. I haven't had my nexus for very long so I don't know much about this kind of stuff (just switched from hero) I want to switch to the .34 undervolted kernel ... can someone please help me to do this. I am currently only getting about 6 to 6 and a half hours of use per full charge on light to moderate usage so better battery life is needed badly... thank you guys

Which rom has stable and longlife battery?
Cause of my friend just take first smartphone captivate ( She is older and low tech )
I try serveral roms but does not get a stable rom. Hope sombody will help me
The Darky ROM has been very stable for me. You can find the page for it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890429
It is still being updated on a semi regular basis. The battery life is better than normal too.
I really think battery life has to do with the kernal. I might be wrong but I think you should look for specific kernals and use them.
And I think most roms are stable. you can try cognition. Assonance. Darky
I personally like darky the best so try it out!

Yep, the kernel has the largest part to do with battery life, but it's not the only thing.
If you're into tweaking, I recommend glitterballs' kernel, steam or regular. Undervolt and disable overclocking and you'll get utterly ridiculous battery life. 69% battery life currently with over 21 hours of uptime and moderate usage.
As for a rom, I'd recommend Serendipity, or if you don't mind the Samsung glass lockscreen Cognition 3.0x seems like it has a lot of promise (though I haven't tried it myself as I hate that lockscreen).
I have flashed many roms, and ive noticed the biggest diff. in battery life is definitely with the kernel, i am running docs rom 7.5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882397 that i cooked in the kitchen. with Hardcores speed mod kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893880 and androidena theme http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770507. I have went thru many updates with hardcore's kernel, he updates quite often and docs rom is updated quited often also, and seems to be one of the better rom's and the dev. he is always there to answer any questions. Now to the point i have went to full cycles with my battery fully charged and ran to dead, i have sceen shots of both cycles. First batt cycle i went 1day 6hrs from last plugged in. 2 hours of screen on. 20 min of voice calls. the next cycle i went 1 day 5 hrs with 13% left, with roughly the same screen on time. I have never found anything better than this, so i'm staying with this combination, and update the kernels reg. and question pm me if you'd like.

thx so can you introduce which kernel have long life battery
I mainly flash with Cognition or darkys ROMs. I've found that darkys gives me both better battery life AND a more stable experience.
I would use hardcore speedmod kernel. Link is in my last post. 500 hz cwm I'd what I chose to install thru recovery.

[Q] Help With Kernel Choice

Fellows, i just bought my SGS a few days ago , and the moment i bought it i upgraded it to Arabic stock froyo and a friend recommended to use stock+Voodoo-5.0.3-Froyo-GT-I9000-XXJPX kernel
i used it , got 1424 on quadrant and it was very nice in performance but i got strange battery life, it didn't last for more than 10 hours with everything switched off.
so i returned back to stock froyo (pda I9000 jpjpf, phone I9000 jxjpd) and now i got nearly 24 hours of battery life.
what confuses me is that, during using voodoo, the battery was during the first 2 charging cycles of its life, and when i returned to stock froyo , it got into the 3rd charging cycle, and now its moving on towards getting better in battery life.
so my question is , do you think that the kernel was responsible for this strange battery life, or the battery was warming up and needed to be charged and discharged to get into its performance.
also , any suggestions about kernel for battery life with good performance, personally i did like the phone when it was on voodoo @ 1424 on quadrant
please help , and sorry for explaining a lot
thanks
Quadrant is a false test when it comes to use and responsive phone .

thanks for your reply
i did like the phone when it was on vodoo, regardless of quadrent
my aim is to know about battery life

Read the battery faqs and posts on this very page .
But battery life is very very variable .
jje
i am afraid that battery faq does not have an answer to my question
i want to know if the change in kernel is responsible for that strange battery condition
or it was that the battery was at its first charge and discharge cycle?
Going from 10 to 24h of battery life, it could be a battery stats problem, it happens when changing ROMs.
But to answer your question, I dont think voodoo is responsible for the battery drain. Personally I use SpeedMod (without lagfix) with Froyo JS3 and it works really well battery-wise and performance-wise.
you don't think that voodoo is responsible ,
well that's some good news for me actually cuz i did like my phone's performance when it was using voodoo's kernel
thanks for sugesting speedmod , will read about it for sometime and see if i dare to take this action again , cuz battery life is a must for me due to my work
i can't stand the phone that needs more than one charge per day
any more ideas everyone?
I also use speedmod and battery life is excellent. Even with heavy use I get over 24 hours no problem. If I was to use it just as a phone I think I could get 3 days use.
And yes, I agree that your battery stats were probably a little messed up and should settle after a few days of use.

I'm using SpeedMod with SeaARMS' JL2 ROM and the battery lasts much longer. If you have a Galaxy S on Bell Mobility it's the best option to keep the 850Mhz radio working.

best rom/kernel for battery life/stability?

fiancees captivate is currently running cm7.1 rc1, with whatever kernel was required to be used from the old 7.0 nightlies.
battery life sucks, maybe 12 hours with light usage and its <15% left.
id prefer to stay away from touchwiz if possible. what rom or kernel, or combination of the two would give the best battery life/stability. I really dont want to mess with OC/UV. I was suggested the glitch kernel with cm7 but dont know if i have to mess with OC/UV to get the best battery life. any help is appreciated, she is tired of her phone dying early in the evening.
All depends on the person. ROMs usually don't drain battery. The biggest battery drainer is the modem, then kernel. Go try Serendipity VII.
I used Cog 5 for a long while and was getting good battery life.

[Q] CM 7.1 Stable vs Stock JVx Battery life

After using Samsung stock ROMs for over a year I finally switched to CM7.1(Stable) last week. But the battery life I'm getting now is not as good what I used to get with Samsung stock ROMs. With JVT I easily got 24hrs, but now I cant go beyond 15hrs with same usage patterns (3G during day and WiFi at night, few short calls and around 50 SMSs, with a bit of web browsing and some online audio streaming). Did anyone else notice a similar battery life drop going from a recent stock ROM to CM7.1 ?
I ran the CM7 nightlies until recently and came back to JVT because of battery life and the hello hello bug. I use my phone as a music player for most of the day and find that stock ROMs hardly deplete the battery at all, with CM7 I was getting the same sort of life as you.

For me, CM 7.1 Stable drains battery a lot. I've changed to JVP modem and it seems to be a bit longer, maybe I'll try with Fugu kernel.
Looks like I'll be going back to JVT. Idling battery drain is way too much. For example I charged it around 8 last night and by 12 noon today, battery is down to 45% mostly just idling and few texts. This is as bad as original eclair release came with the phone.
I personaly dont find there to be a huge difference but i am on Bell which is HSPA only (3G all the time)
i find i always have to recharge by 4 pm (8 am wake up) but i am a heavy user. I am waiting for my extended battery so i can make it through a day.

What was the last stock ROM you used ? I used to get similar battery life with earlier ROMs, sometimes I had to charge it twice in a day depending on usage. But with recent ROMs (2.3.3 and up), I ever hardly charged it twice, despite very heavy use (more than an hour of calling , GSM/VOIP, about an hour of internet audio streaming etc..). IMO stock ROMs are really good at idle power consumption, I have managed to get 2 days with light use, a full day with moderate use and more than 10hrs with heavy use.
EDIT : CM7 is smoother and quicker; I also like the customizability. I’ll again give it a try when ICS comes out , but till then I'm back to Samsung Stock, because poor battery life simply kills the experience for me. Perhaps I can squeeze couple of hours more with some tweaks, but I doubt it'll be as good as JVT.
I myself have come back to 2.3.5 xxjvt cos coming from cm7.1 and darky 10.2 final..i should say stock rom can have a standby time of more than 24hours believe that..otherwise ics might have a lot more to over than gingerbread

I hope when ics is released by cyogenmod battery life gets better this is why ive not updated to 7.1
Hello U all.
Can somebody give me a link to the CM7.1 stable for i9000?
Thank you.

[Question]GT540 best battery saving ROM?

Guys i use SwiftDroid ASIS but my battery is drained in like 12 hours if i let 3G turned on. Otherwise its still dead in 18 hours anyway. What is the best battery saving ROM in all ?
Airplane mode ROM.
just a joke... lol
i think that froyo is best on battery life.
There is basically no advice to extend battery life on the optimus without the additional expense of an extended battery.

The best battery to power ratio has the 2.2.2 foryo with fully working .32 kernel from pcfighter

The stock 2.1 ROM has the best battery life.
Sent from my GT540 using XDA App
yeah mike made a 2.1 rom with bfs and all kinds of other stuff but it does not have root or jit
The best rom that has a great battery life is 2.1.
As our phone is getting older and older (I have it since 9/2010), also battery is getting weaker. So, I want to stick to a 2.1 ROM and want your advices. Besides battery performance, important for me are: stable wifi and fast gps lock. thx for reading : )
I forgot to mention: I want your advice on which 2.1 ROM I should use?
Yes, stock 2.1 Eclair is the absolute winner in terms of battery life. I remember I had 4 days with normal usage, good old times
yep using it now (well no really stock v20e light version by miro) watch 2 hrs of video nonstop still above 97

So is the ROM you are using, the best 2.1 ROM in your opinion? I was using greendroid for 3-4 days, great battery life, but I saw wifi disconnecting after some time and keep saying: obtaining address...
Did you use a 2.2 ROM coming close to the 2.1 in battery performance? (Only flash support is pushing me not to go back to 2.1)
Well in my experience any 2.3 ROM can last 2 days if overclock is under 700MHz, brightness about 50%, use 2G only when not going on internet etc. With 2.2 ROMs you can get even more battery life, and with 2.1 the most. It depend how much you need.
Project utopia is the most stable fastest 2.2 I have ever used very similar to 2.1
Now I can also highly recommend SDSL prefinal, now I'm on 50% battey after 3 days of use! (it just passed the 3day mark). All this with low-mid usage, so I think this is also awesome from a 2.3 rom!
And I use 122-806MHz with smartassv2 governor, so if you don't OC at all, you can reach even higher battery lifetime! I'm curious whether can I reach the magic 4 days of constant use on GB.
good luck to you maybe screen off set to 480-122 smartassv2
